Taj Mahal in Wokingham

Quite probably the worst curry I’ve ever had. We called in to order a takeaway which confused them and they didn’t apply the collection discount ! When we got the curry home it was almost cold despite actually having literally just collected it from the restaurant ourselves having waited for it to be cooked.. I had a Jafrezi which was just a greasy brown mush with tough chicken. My partner had a biryani which was completely tasteless. Cold rice - congealed greasy and tough chicken. Avoid ! If I could give zero rating I would.

We thought the venue was okay as was the food. We picked up a leaflet last Friday and rang today to arrange 10 covers on their Wednesday Banquet Night. The offer is for one starter, one main, one side, one rice for £15 (collection of course). I was told the offer was not available now. So why not remove all those menus with it on!!

These guys need to understand allergies better - they added prawn to the tandoori, no prawn listed on ingredients. Just spent a delightful time dealing with the consequences……

Green Chilli Wokingham- slow service and tasteless food. We were a large Indian group of 17 squeezed into what resembled a large front living room!,, ordered a variety of vegetarian Indian dishes, service was so slow, even though we were the only ones there!...every curry dish was so very tasteless..even had to ask for salt to bring out some of the taste..when the chef asked if we liked the food, we said it is totally bland and tasteless..he said well then you should've asked for desi style (Indian style)..we said, surely looking at us Indians there should be No need to assume we need to ask for Indian style curry at an Indian curry house for local Indians?? it really is bonkers!..

Ordered via Uber Eats twice which offered 2 for 1 meals when curry arrived containers were only half full so not 2 for 1 but 1 in 2 containers, I queried this with them in which they apologised so ordered again another night and put on order please fill containers but again 4 containers half full, not good practice, emailed asking why only half full but didn’t reply.. Shame because food is good, report it to Uber and will get refunded, I didn’t this time as thought I’ll give the restaurant a chance to get back to me but didn’t and now to late to get a refund.

We had a takeaway delivered last night. Sorry but you have to say as it was..... They really need to go up to Birmingham and get some training as to what a curry and tandoori should be. The tandoori was brown and in some type of brown curry juice juice with onions. It should be fairly red and dry with some juice of the dish the mint sauce was weak and insipid. My husbands and son in law you couldn't tell the difference between the 2 dishes. It looked like a curry soup with 6 small pieces of meat. It was something that a novice would have cooked and to add insult to injury it cost £50. I do not do negative reviews but sorry this was the worst ever. They need to up their game

Last time we ordered the EE delivery driver swore he had no money change for a cash order and we were forced to overpay him by over £8 as we had guests waiting. This time same thing! Turned up with 'only £2' to give in change for a £45 order when we offered £50. Last time he said: " next time I bring you something fantastic so sorry". Apparently 'something fantastic' means overcharging us by another fiver! Will not be ordering again till they get this sorted out as it never happened when the fab girl delivered.

Pepper tikka chicken OMG amazing. The chicken main course was fresh tasted so good and served with passion. The main was best I've ever had. Def going back.

First time trying this place for Indian whst can I say tasted amazing. The chicken was cooked to perfection I would recommend this place highly

After being a loyal customer, we were very disappointed with our Saturday night takeaway. Two things, we had a missing vegetable curry and also one of the dishes was half empty with missing meat and peppers. Not sure what was going on, as it was impossible to get through on the phone too. Overall disappointed!

Popped in for an evening meal midweek. Very quiet. Food very good. Good value for money. Limited wine selection but the house white was good. Will definitely go back.

We just had our first takeaway from here since it changed to Greene Chilli. The Butter Chicken had a rancid taste, was hot & inedible. The Bombay potatoes tasted of urine, the meat in the jalfrezi was horrible & the onion bhajis were so crunchy you couldn't eat them. The samosas were ok because there were out of the freezer.They have such high prices compared to all the other Indian restaurants in town yet this is the worst meal we have ever had (or not had in this case. Will stick with our usual restaurants from now on, Such a disappointment when you pay so much for a weekend treat.

Friendly staff but service a little bit slow. Food was very nice but worth remembering this place does not sell alcohol. Good portions but a tad expensive.

Decided to try Green Chilli after seeing something different from the usual menus and wasn’t disappointed. Food was excellent and portion sizes were generous, Naan’s were really good and a 15% discount on online order was a nice touch. It’s difficult for restaurants to stand out from the crowd, especially when there’s so much choice but places like Green Chilli and Dabawalla are at least trying to do something new.

I first became aware of Green Chilli during lockdown when we ordered a take away. The food was amazing!After lockdown, we took a wander to their small restaurant. The staff are fantastic and the food was obviously just as good. One thing worth noting is that they don't have an alcohol license so be sure to take your own.Thoroughly recommend this restaurant. You won't be disappointed.

Food was awful, The onion bhaji were that hard you couldn't bite them obviously reheated then microwaved.food was very very tasteless.we used to use the Taj Mahal which we loved..we won't be back.

So it would appear that The Taj Mahal is now the Green Chilli. Obviously the Chef has gone and the kitchen hand has taken over. Everything was brown and everything was tasteless and to rub it in, the price was expensive for what we were given. I have never thrown Indian food away before, but I did this time. This would have to be the worst Indian Meal I have ever had.

Spent the weekend in Wokingham, went out on Saturday night looking for a curry house. Found this place. At first a bit dubious as there were no customers in there, just us.Food was amazing!!!!! Full of flavour and well presented. Lovely service too.Just in alcohol available as they dont have a licence.. . . . .but you can take your own

So sad this has changed hands, having been a regular visitor to The Taj Mahal previously. Food ordered online for pick up and was telephoned to say ready 1 hour and 15 minutes before due. When we did pick up, the food was cold, had no taste, poor quality meat, solid rice and small portions. No extras with the poppodoms. I suspect our food had just been warmed up. Definitely not value for money.I did make contact to give them a chance to reply, but sadly no response. Would not recommend.

1st time eating hear since it changed hands and name Unfortunately the Food was bland and tasteless , I had the Tandoori Monkfish and i suspect it was either Cod or Haddock as it tasted nothing like Monkfish , my wife has the chicken Shashlik and again is was lacking in any taste and was not Tandoori . The korma just tasted of coconut and nothing else but my biggest issue is the samosa We ordered 2 for £7, what turned up was 4 tiny small samosa which are bite size each I think this is complete rip off!!! considering one portion is two bite size samosa for £3.50!!! We wanted to try something new booked online after reading the Sunday banquet deal. We also wrote in our booking notes we were coming for this deal. When we arrived we were seated given the menu and asked what starter we would like to start with. We ordered everything that the banquet offered and were told nothing different. When I asked for the bill they gave me a £60 bill and told me they decided not to do the deal because they were not busy enough.Absolutely ridiculous. I can not believe this even happened. I would not have ordered what I ordered if it wasn’t on the deal I would of ordered something else ....whole point of the deal. Just a bit ridiculous false advertising and lying to customersCould of told us when we arrived they decided not to do it but waited for us to order everything off it and charge us full price first. Never again

I have received a mixed up order. Where it was ordered with beef it was delivered with chicken. Where it was ordered with chicken there was no meat at all. Not impressed at all. Delivery though came a bit earlier.

I have Eaten here before and had takeaways and they were always nice. Not Fantastic, but nice. We had a takeaway from here recently and it was tasteless. I am not sure if there were any spices in it, but it was bland. Indian dishes should taste fantastic, with the multitude of spices vying for your taste-buds attention.

Not worth the wait. Advertised as 30-50 minutes delivery and actually took over an hour and a half. The portions were also tiny. Will not order from there again.

We’ve been eating here for many years and had been planning a large family gathering to celebrate my daughters 21st. Sadly this won’t be possible but takeaway definitely on the cards in mid April. Having eaten here or had takeaway many times, we’ve never had any problems with the quality of the food.

Food was lovely as always. This is the third time we’ve ordered from here and we have always enjoyed it. I particularly enjoy the chicken and paneer masala!

What a complete joke. Order online and confirmation received ..... no food arrived after an hour and 5 mins so call. No food , no compensation no nothing! Not happy and will not be using this outlet ever again!

Ordered vegetable Bhuna. Overcooked peas and carrots with a bit of mushy broccoli. Bearing no resemblance to any Bhuna I have ever tasted. Very disappointing - no authentic Indian flavour, no chilli - tasteless. Sag aloo average naan ok and rice made it edible. Options for vegetarians should be of a higher standard than that.

Food was great as always but was an hour late, with no indication it was going to be until I messaged the restaurant to say it was late. If you are ordering at the weekend make sure you order well in advance. It will be late.

Been coming to this restaurant since the day it opened, some 43 years ago, still the best butter chicken, great wecome every time we return. Firm family favourite. Miss you Hi, your sons are doing a good job, many wonderful memories, great food and service.

Local small restaurant, really too many tables for its size, no room once seated. Staff pleasant, very noisy.

We ended up here after a hectic day, the staff were as always a pleasure, the food was amazing.it was a Saturday night and not too busy however they do lots of takeaways but we were aware of this so although everything took a bit longer it was worth the wait for the food. It's a small restaurant but the quality off the food is so good, we will be back.

Delicious food, great service, lovely atmosphere, immaculately presented tables, all made for a very enjoyable birthday lunch. The dishes were so wonderfully colourful and piping hot, I particularly enjoyed the Lamb Pasanda and the onion bhajis. Service was so polite, welcoming and friendly. Will definitely recommend to friends and the Taj Mahal will be my ‘go to’ place to eat next time I’m in Wokingham.

No I would not suggest you go there. Yes it was a Saturday evening but it took 40 minutes to order a drink. Food was warm not hot and mediocre to poor. Service was not great. Huge draft from the restaurant S delivery guys constantly leaving front door open. Spend money on what’s needed and not patronising red roses to the females only!

The food is top-notch, only cold due to late delivery. Unfortunately the road is closed where I live, and you have to do a detour, which I think they should have known about. I had to go and meet the delivery driver half way up the road.

Very disappointed with this order. Chose Taj Mahal as they quoted 35 - 50 minutes delivery time on the Just Eat app. Ordered at 7.00pm order was confirmed with an 8.00pm delivery time. It actually arrived at 8.30pm. When I phoned at 8.15 to chase it I was surprised that there was no real apology give. This order took at least twice as long to deliver as originally advised before I decided to order from them and no one contacted me to advise of a delay. Very poor customer service.

This a cozy but well appointed restaurant. Friendly welcome and efficient and friendly staff. Food arrived promptly and was very good. Being a curry connoisseur i have had better but what we had was of good quality. Would i go back yes a thumbs up.

Fantastic food & definitely better than some of the other Indian type restaurants &/or takeaways we've had recently. Will definitely visit or have takeaway from there again.

Food portions were subsidised, bland and boring. We ordered chicken tikka vindaloo and only received regular chicken. Poppadoms where also missing from the order and when we called just eat to complain the restaurant owner denied that they were missing, blatantly lying. It was our first and last time ordering from here do not use this place!!!!.

After our favourite Indian closed we have been trying to find an alternative without much luck! But we decided to give Taj Mahal a go after reading some good reviews and having been recommended.We had a takeaway on a sunday evening and it arrived promptly but one of our garlic naans was missing, I called the restaurant and I was told it would be with us shortly which we ate our popadoms and it then arrived! The food was tasty and plentiful and lots of flavour and the chicken was tender and cooked perfectly.I think we have found our new favourite Indian takeaway.

This is a nice place for a good Indian meal. There is a varied menu, the portions are a good size and the food is well described on the menu. The staff are pleasant and attentive. They have a Sunday special which is very good value

I usually enjoy food from here but it appears to be better at lunch time rather then supper, the portions were ridiculously small hardly any meat.

Food was less salty, too oily, no spice and not delivered on time. In short, i dont recommend it.

Our first family Indian takeaway and it was amazing. The food was excellent and the children enjoyed it too! I will definitely be back and would recommend it to anyone.
