Tai Won Mein Noodle House in Greenwich

Been here on several occasions, popped in on the 7th September, the food is fresh and reasonably priced, staff are friendly enough, I would recommend going here. They cater for all. Some people may be put off that it’s cash only, but there’s a cash point nearby. There’s no car park.

I visited this place today and i usually get a Singapore fried rice. The waiter who attended to me was being a bit sarcastic when i requested for extra prawns(paid for) and water in a bottle. When my food came i chewed on one of the prawns and immediately felt like someone had phlegmed on it i could not continue eating it so i just paid and left as i didnt want to cause a scene. I will not be returning back to this place and i will also be contacting the food inspection enforcement. I felt really sick for the rest of the day cause i kept replaying it in my head

Excellent value for money, excellent portion size, honestly it was the best Fried noodle dish I have ever had. Service was friendly and speedy, all around an excellent place. Definitely stop by if you're in the Greenwich area

Stopped eating there after seeing a mouse running around & the stuff were reluctant to give me a refund so I could leave as the food had already been cooked

Well...taste is brilliant but the way these servers treat you is unacceptable. We ordered noodles and king prawas soup. We wanted to have extra bowl and spoon but the staff literally ignored and never came back. Also, wince last 5 years they are only accepting cash. Something fishy? Transferring all money without paying any tax? 😒

I like this restaurant. It is not high end but always clean and food cooked well and according to any specific request. Also friendly staff

Our order came out wrong so wasn't a great impression at first. I had king prawns in satay sauce and rice. It was more like a prawn curry, couldn't taste any satay. No smile on the service point, nobody asked how our meal was or if we needed anything else. Very dull atmosphere and didn't feel too welcoming.

My sweet and sour chicken with rice wwas so bad, I was craving it for days and then came here to have some but it tasted very vinegary, hard to enjoy :( The rice tasted old and “bottom of the pan” type.

After years of driving past this place I thought I'd pop in with my wife. To cut a long story short - It's cash only (of course it is) and the prices are very reasonable. The portions a big, HOWEVER I couldn't taste any sort of flavour in my food it got to the point where I had to imagine the flavour to make it easier to eat - They forgot to add the small print on the menu "We are cheap as we don't add flavour to our food" Good for the local students I suppose who live off cans of beans daily. To summarise I won't be attending again and my Mrs won't let it down that I took her to this place.

Tai Won Mein at Cutty Sark offered a dining experience that brought nostalgia for Chinese flavors from back home in India. However, the taste, influenced by the authentic nature of the restaurant, didn't match the spiciness of the fusion Chinese cuisine familiar to us. The real letdown, though, was the service, which fell short of expectations, coupled with cleanliness concerns. It's worth noting that while the taste was a matter of preference, improvements in service and cleanliness would elevate the overall dining experience.

Can I put minus star somehow?! I will be honest, I used to eat there because was a non expensive option and the portion was as well enough big even for a man! The staff is almost always rude and in a bad mood ,making the indoor experience awkward! Once after finishing my meal, I left without using the loo . I went back to the restaurant, and they almost kicked me out because they said I was not a costumer , funny isn't?! cause I was there 4 minutes ago, it is almost impossible to be forgotten so quickly! Last but not least at all! My last meal was a chicken fried noodles takeaway. I took it all the way back at home. I started eating, and I found on my mouth and after on my plate peaces of a cockroach. 🤮🤮🤮🤮

Prawns in tempura were really good, however the soup was like boiled water with seafood thrown in after, and the sweet & sauer chicken was less than average. The staff should also advise tourists better like we ordered extra rice as a side but it was an extra large bowl portion - too much for kids and it got wasted pretty much (6GBP price for it should hint us tho as well, but the staff should recommend & advice on portion size)

Pros... Big portions and friendly staff also not too busy on a Saturday night but after the cons I'm about to list I'm not too surprised. Cons.... Chow mein was too oily for my taste also found it to be very bland 👎🏾 the gyozas also wasn't the best. The king prawn in black bean sauce seems like it was frozen but other than that it was ok. 5/10. Don't think i will come again. Just came as a last minute thing.

Tried this restaurant for a Chinese meal. Just two bowls of noodles; but we were disappointed with the food. Only one type of Chinese tea too.

Walked in fine and walked out feeling ill after having the noodles…

Walked past tai won mein for a quick meal and turns out it is unexpectedly good. The wonton soup and dumpling is average, but the stir fried beef ho fun is very good. Can taste the wok hay and seasoned very well. Portion is also very generous as ‘tai won’ means big bowl in cantonese. Not to mention the very affordable price in london. For such a large portion cause less than £10

the staff are always arguing and the food is very bland. the feeling in this restaurant is depressing. all i can taste from the food is chunks of MSG, it is horrible.

The staff was nice and friendly . But Unfortunately the food that I had sweet and sour chicken was the was iv ever tested in my life. Tasted like the shop brought ones cheap valued meals .

Exceptional quality food. Portions were very generous and the prices were very reasonable. Starters and sides come in big portions which isn't common for a lot of restaurants.

Adoro questo posto. C'ero già stata un paio di volte quasi 10 anni fa durante le mie visite a Londra, è comodo da raggiungere e per quanto sempre frequentato abbiamo sempre trovato posto. Il locale è spartano, è stato rimodernato e ridipinto ma mantiene lo stile dei tavoloni da condividere con altri ospiti. Anche così però si riesce a mantenere la propria privacy perché lasciano sempre dei posti vuoti tra un gruppo di persone e l'altro. È un posto tranquillo dove ordinare una porzione di noodles belli unti e saporiti, le porzioni sono sempre enormi, consiglio i loro piatti di noodles con l'anatra che ha un finale dolce e saporito veramente buonissimo. Purtroppo prendono solo contanti ma spero che si attrezzeranno presto con un pos. Il costo è onesto e si passa una bella serata conviviale.

Busy place because of decent size portion of bland food at reasonable price. The lady in charge was unfriendly, unprofessional with no customer service experience, I doubt it's a place you can ask for tap water or even ask for a straw, was refused a empty glass or cup because we didn't order our drinks from them- never ever experienced this from any restaurants before. Only interested in "Cash payments only"as they shouted this out every time a customer walked in obviously dodging the taxman. Other servers were nice and food came out quickly. Won't be coming back due to unpleasant lady who I presume is the manager.

Frozen seafood in a flavourless soup. Chicken "balls" in THICK batter, ultra deep-fried. (Also waiters/waitresses keep rubbing past you.)

Absolutely disgusting food. How people eat here is well beyond me. The service is alright (some of them) bette off going into the market for a fresh, tasty meal. Had to send the meal back twice. It was cold and tasteless. Tasted like leftovers.Really don't know this place is still operating.

The Woolwich one is much better, this one has better location though ha ha

Quick & friendly service. I had the Beef in Blackbean sauce Ho Fun, very flavourful, big portion & saucy the way I like it. My partner had the Stir Fried Vermicelli with Duck & Roast Pork, also flavoursome and hearty. Definitely coming back :)

Classic Chinese place to be honest don't expect anything amazing but it not bad, you should know what you are getting here. If you want a decent amount of food for cheap, this is the place for you. I wasn't too impressed with the sweet and sour chicken, way too much sauce, lots of rice not much of anything else. The outstanding dish was the salt and pepper squid, that was incredible. I would be back just for that for sure.

Many good memories of the Tai Won Mein. Back in the area after a long time. Ordered my old fave Chicken in Black Bean Sauce with fried rice and vegetables, noticeably lacking in chicken content, noticeably more expensive than I ever remember. Portion size big however with rice and vegetables. I’m sure sentimentality will make me give them another try.

HK diner feel with service to match. Food is tasty without being pretentious. Good for people watching of confused tourists.

We found rise in our noodles and peace’s of some sort of meat ( our dish was sea food) They are obviously giving you someone else’s leftovers,, food was oily and disgusting!! We all have stomach problems,, NEVER AGAIN!! Overpriced, bad food,, dirty! If you wanna get salmonella then go ahead!

Great food portions and value for money but the service really let's this place down. I've been going here since I was little but each time I return the service gets worse and worse and it's obvious they cater for only tourists and no longer care for the locals - I brought family here for the first time and I was embarrassed I had said it was my favourite noodle house. Be prepared to pay a fee for any food you wish to takeaway and do not consume in the restaurant.

The waiter and waitress were very friendly. Thanks for this. My teeth had been good, no chip no cavity no pain whatsoever. I ordered noodle with beef, there shouldn't be anything hard. When I ate it, there was something really really hard that I chewed on, which immediately sent sharp intense pain to my teeth/ gum. Since then I have been experiencing poor tooth pain, for two weeks now. I think chewing on that hard things cracked my teeth :( now waiting for my dentist appointment. PS: one of my teeth has been cracked, half removed, half of it the dentist is trying to save.:(

Went here with family after being disappointed from another local Chinese restaurant. Food here was great with a nice clear and easy to understand menu. Staff were very friendly and helpful and we all received our food in good time. Everyone enjoyed their meal and for all 7 of us including drinks (2 of us ordered water) the bill came to just over £82!! Would definitely recommend and will come back again!!

It's not authentic Cantonese food. Wonton has no shrimp in it. Also, no vinegar available. Ask any Cantonese, how can you eat wonton noodles without vinegar. How can they cook Chinese food not using vinegar. This place is only for hungry tourists tired of fish and chips.

Did not deliver the food I paid for, and the restaurant gave me a random number saying that this is just eat customer service. very rude and then hung up.

Are you in budget and want delicious, fresh quality food? Look no further Tai won mein is literally 5 mins walking from cutty sark station and opposite greenwich market. This place is no frills, eat and go kind if place. All the servers are friendly and helpful. Their menu are in English and with description of the food. We ordered soup, dumplings, tofu and chicken fried rice. Dumplings are one of the best I ever had. Dumplings were plumpy, juicy and full of flavour.(this should be must) Deep fried tofu was crunchy outside and soft and gooey inside. Rice and soup were delicious too. I will definitely come this place again. FYI…The restaurant only accept cash. If you dont cash, there is a atm just nearby.

RUDEST people I met in a restaurant. Went for lunch there, we ordered 3 main dishes and got served 2, after double checking 2 times still didn't get managed to bring us one more dish. Instead bought us another starter. And blamed me that I didn't order right! Just one lady spoke English and rest didn't understand anything. Portion wise was good but the people just disgusting. Very rude to my toddler as well who was very tired and moody. At the end we didn't get a bill just an amount to pay in cash! Very weird this place

Ho fun is a standout. However the vermicelli is also great. We love coming to this place whenever we are on Soth East London. Great big portions and tasty to boot. However bring cash

Tai Won Mein means big bowl of noodles. As a Chinese from south China/HK, I can assure you the beef fried flat noodles 乾炒牛河is authentic. Remember to order a small plate of chilly oil, mixing with the noodle is the best. The noodle has a lot of beef vegetable. Overall the portion is very generous. If you’re not a big fan of flat noodle, you can ask to replace with egg noodles. The Singaporean style chow mein 星洲炒米 is also very nice. Curry beef rice is also good. The stuff here speaks Cantonese, Mandarin an English. They seem to be in a rush all the time, but they are actually very nice staff. Remember they only take cash.

Simply put this is the worst Chinese restaurant I have ever been to. Never again.

Fried Rice, Beef Ho Fun, fried calamari, they make them all really good. No credit card accepted though so be mindful of that. 10/10 for portion size. Ask for their Chili oil too!

Excellent food hands down. Had the beef with ho fun in soup. Flavorful broth, melt in your mouth beef, fresh greens, and punchy chilli oil. Service is fast and efficient and the place is pretty nice and clean. The only negative is that they are a cash-only establishment.

This restaurant is cash only, wanted to come for a quick lunch but only had £20 in my pocket so i was limited. Ordered a seafood fried noodle, only to find 2 prawns in it and a couple of fish balls. So much for a seafood dish.... Noodles came out and was flavourless and oily. Would not recommend.

Avoid avoid avoid, i had roast duck and pork soup that definitely had no duck and barely any pork. We also had chicken which was full of MSG or something nastier not sure. I had allergic reaction to the chicken and was very sick by the time i got home.

I had an extremely bad experience having dinner here. I accidentally missed noticing a ‘cash only’ sign outside and had my food (no one told me about the cash only policy). When I was about to pay, the problem surfaced and the lady at the counter was extremely rude. She had a tone of blackmail and asked me to deposit my phone as a collateral. They run a shady business and don’t pay taxes, don’t provide printed bills and of course don’t accept any digital payments (not even bank transfer). I was somehow able to arrange the cash and got out of the place. Food was average, service was below average. Overall, an extremely bad experience. Please avoid if you can and spend your money elsewhere.

If you’re looking for a proper Chinese good food, this is the place to try! Food price is very good given the rise in everything currently but the taste itself is absolutely lovely! This is a fast-paced noodle house so don’t go looking for fancy plate and whatnot. You’ll come in starving and come out bloatedly happy!

Food is always amazing when I go! But on the last occasion I came quite late in the evening 10:10 pm but on google it says they’re closed at 11:30 so didn’t think this was an issue. Got “kicked out” at 10:45 when they decided to turn the lights off in the restaurant which I thought was quite rude. There were two other customers there at the time but cmon it was a Saturday surely they’d stay open till their usual closing time. Even just politely coming up to me to say they were closing slightly early would’ve been better than turning the lights off.

Lovely food but on this occasion they seemed to have used pot noodles instead of the usual noodles that I usually have.Was a bit off a disappointment because I feel this was a much cheaper version which let my meal down.

Absolutely appalled by the customer service . Woman was complaining about me and my family to other customers within the restaurant as we were walking out the door. When we had approached her about it she was very aggressive when we were trying to raise some of our concerns about the food. Our concerns were that the chicken was raw ,the noodles and rice were bland, the were drinks were flat and tasted like replicas. They had also gave us tap water and claimed it was bottled water and when we had asked them about it they had got offended. They had the audacity to serve our starters in chipped plates which is also a safety hazard. When my child had gone to go toilet it was dirty, had tissue all over the floor, no working hand dryer and hand wash wasn’t available. If this place was to have a hygiene review they would not pass. This place needs to be closed down immediately. Do not go there and save your health.

Big portions for cheap prices but quality of food is terrible. It is worse than takeaway food. Plus they gave us the wrong dish then refused to give us what we actually ordered, then we had to pay for this dish that we didn't order. Awful experience from the beginning. AVOID.

Excellent service!! Apart from the great variety of food to choose from, this restaurant offers a number of tables with street views. Service is prompt and friendly. They are a cash-only service so go prepared. There are a number of free cash withdrawals available nearby, just in case. Highly recommend the Chicken Chowmein (large portion size). The fried prawn toast with sesame is oily but quite delicious and filling.

CASH ONLY. Come on guys. Delicious food, but you’d think in this day and age, you would now ACCEPT CARD PAYMENTS or a *least* Deliveroo/Just Eat/Uber for customers convenience- especially as it’s difficult to park around there. Pay to park.. and then dash off to Tesco’s cash machine…and then stand in cramped place with everyone saying “excuse me” every second upon collection. Please now accept card payments and or Delivery.

I have been coming to this Chinese for 20 years and has always been excellent. The food tastes amazing. The only downfall is that they only accept cash but overall the food is outstanding and the portion sizes are huge.

My favourite restaurant in Greenwich! Family run, decent portions and lively. Sure, like all places, prices have gone up but I've been coming here for 15 years now, so that's not a surprise! It's great to come here!

It is an authentic Chinese/Taiwanese restraunt with some really good soups, rice and chowmein dishes. Portions are large and budget friendly.. Do try their fresh lemonade ...it's perfect.. Service is really fast and location is perfect.. You can go for a lovely walk down the Greenwich park and get back to the restraunt for a nice and warm lunch. Is located very close to DLR station and Cutty Sark. And yes...they accept only cash so do remember to fill your pockets before🙂

Great tasty food, good prices, massive portions and very quick service. my only little nitpick is that I wish they offered different alcoholic drinks and takes card ( cash only ) other than that this is our number 1 visit when wanting Chinese.

I’ve literally been eating at Tai Won Mein my whole life and I can easily say it’s my favourite Chinese. Customer service is always good and orders come quickly from eat in to takeaway. The portions are definitely value for money and the prices are amazing. Super worthwhile checking it out if you’re in the area.

Fresh, hot food. I really enjoyed my meal! They’re also able to make meals that aren’t on the menu eg. Salt and pepper prawns/Special fried rice. People who complain it’s cash only, so what?!!! Cross the road and take cash out problem solved. Lovely staff. 10/10!

This was our favourite place as students, the food was good, the portion enormous and the service quick. My favourite was always the wok-fried noodles with seafood. We still go there on the days when we go to Greenwich. The seafood noodles does not have mussels or thinly sliced fish cake anymore. Don't understand why this place is 'cash only', feels wrong.

Food was ok, but served on a chipped plate which was a put off really. Had to ask for table to be cleaned and the restaurant was not even busy. Staff are friendly but i would say they need to focus on a more cleaner and buy new plates, also they only accept cash which i thought would be against the law but hey ho.

Every time that I visit London, coming to this restaurant. My meal is always Udon mixed meat, king prawns and chicken satay skewers. I love that plates. Affordable prices for this tourist area. The people that serve you, are always friendly and smiley. You need cash, they don't accept cards. Definitely, recommend that place for people that love chinese food.

So I have a nut allergy and a sesame allergy so have not had Chinese food in over 6 years as I'm guaranteed a reaction. This place was recommended to me. When I went the atmosphere was casual and cheerful. The waitress went above and beyond to ensure my order was freshly prepped without allergens. Portions were large and cheap, food was nice... and I didn't have an allergic reaction. A win is a win.

Good food, quick service, and huge portions. The biggest portions I've ever seen in London for the price, definitely get value for money, and you don't need to order rice/noodles with your dishes like most restaurant, which is amazing. Only critic is its a cash only restaurant.

I like it because it is cheap and cheerful. I've been here for years, so I know what is best to order. I prefer the duck noodle soup as it is more healthy than the fried stuff. Not everything on the menu taste good. Sometimes the food goes wrong, even burnt. It's not a professional atmosphere, it is usually loud, frantic and buzzing. Staff are usually busy and running around trying to get everything done. Best not to have high expectations, because its not that sort of place, but it is the sort of place I like.
