The worst owner/staff I have ever come across at a restaurant! I came with my friends to celebrate a reunion but the food wasn’t to our standards. Most of the food was cold and the duck was very chewy and undercooked so we asked to take the service charge off the bill. The manager then came through to ask why and when we gave her a reason she kicked off and told us not to eat here again and go to local shops and go to self checkouts!! How can she be so arrogant and condescending!! Is this the service charge I am paying for?? DO NOT VISIT AT ALL!!!

Visited for the first time last month with friends who have eaten there many times and highly recommended ........and boy were they right!!!Firstly, the service was friendly and very efficient but more importantly, every individual course was tasty and delicious.Over the years we found there has been an overuse of MSG`s and therefore everything tasted the same whether it was seafood or chicken - but not at Tai Pan.Enjoyed it so much we are returning this weekend!

My family decided to treat me with a takeaway from Tai Pan Restaurant in Northwood for my birthday. Having eaten here before I was really looking forward to the food, but to my surprise I was really dissatisfied with the food. 1. Chicken satay was over cooked and so dry! a really small portion The satay sauce that it came with was way to oily. 2. Crispy duck was dry and bland.3. Vegetable spring roll - should be 6 in the portion ....we only received 2 mini spring rolls! and they didn't have much filling.... seemed like eating fried pastry.4. both the noodle dishes we ordered (Taipan fried noodles and special fried noodles) were way to dry and bland. It seemed as if some of the dishes had been made for a while and dried out, shocking how this restaurant thought it was acceptable to send food out like this. Real shame as we paid good money for what I would say below average food. We have had a few takeaways over the lockdown periods and I have to say this has been the worst.

The Restaurant appears to be nice. As a vegetarian they did serve us non veg food but despite that incident we returned regularly as the food was good but the service is rubbish. Attended on 31/10/2020 for an early 6pm sitting. Starters were cold/warm but did not complain. The mains arrived and I found a metal wire in food and complained they did not do anything about it. I asked to have an investigation but the manageress was so rude and was talking in the oriental language which I can only guess she was swearing. I explained that I would not want a wire to be eaten by a child or any human as it is dangerous. She was not interested. SERVICE, POORFOOD, OK BUT WOULD NOT GO AGAINCHARGES, OK, MORE LIKE WEST END PRICES BUT LOCALLYIf you want to be abused, poor service and the potential of having some foreign body in your food, good luck and be charged for the privilege..

I have been getting takeaways and eating Chinese for about 5 years. Best ever Chinese in town. Highly recommend. The food is delicious!

Been here quite a few times now and also ordered take out..the owner and staff are v friendly and personable, introducing themselves and making sure everything is ok. Food is really v good and they have a good selection of vegetarian choices too. A bit pricier than your usual but Tai Pan and RC are both my favourites in the NW area

I dined here yesterday with 3 friends, and we were celebrating a birthday. Especially amidst the chaos that COVID-19 brought, I thought it was important to support local businesses - what a mistake.The waitresses from the outset seemed very standoffish.The quality of the starters seemed to have deteriorated from previous visits, with an example being the sticky asparagus dish that is served in a stale basket. That aside, we thought it may be a one off and looked forward to the main course, which is where things went downhill.We ordered a black pepper mock chicken, noodle with beansprouts and vegetable noodle. The mock chicken came in a heavy soy sauce, with no sign of black pepper and an off taste, and the vegetable noodles came cold. On alerting the manager, he took back all dishes, so again we understood that they were at least taking corrective measures. The second time the black pepper dish came back, it was just the first version reheated with visible black pepper sprinkled on the top. The two sets of noodles were evidently heated in a pan, and came back burnt. My partner and I after tasting the mock chicken twice, quite honestly felt sick and alerted the manager although at that point we did not request a replacement. The vegetable noodles were replaced, and this time made fresh.We thought all in all, perhaps the place was having an off day - considering that even without the mock chicken and noodle with beansprouts on the bill (this had been taken off by management), the total still came to £95. The final part is what left us with the most bitter exit - I asked a waitress if we could have some more chocolate mints, and she stated that everything from that point on would be chargeable. I genuinely thought she was joking, but she reconfirmed and looked at us very angrily, before walking off. I alerted the manager and asked for an apology, which we did not receive - he stated he had fired her that day, but it seemed highly unlikely given she was still working that shift.All in all, a birthday ruined, we left still hungry and feeling fairly sick - would we go back, definitely not and for £95 it was not value for money.

Have been eating at the TP for about 25 years.The food has remained unchanged throughout that period, although they renovated the restaurant a few years back to give it more of a Hakkisan-feel.Mixed starters and duck = excellent. Main dishes very fresh and tasty.There aren't many good Chinese restaurants about nowadays - seems to be a bit unfashionable - a bit of a throw-back to the 1980s, but this place is always busy.People seem to go here or Peking Garden in Moor Park. I rate TP higher than PG.The costs do add up - easy to do £50 per head+

The buffet in this restaurant has a good selection of different Chinese favourites. The main course you order as part of the price could be better and in a way aren't really needed but still a good meal, if a little expensive.

A really nice meal with fantastic service, we had the set banquet and each course was lovely , it would be been nice to find a new or unusual dish but these are all the traditional British Chinese dishes you know and love , all cooked well and served beautifully.

My wife and i were invited for dinner by a friend living nearby.Welcoming staff when we were shown to our booked table and nice and good ambience with warm decor.Menu is well laid out and we soon ordered our drinks of Sake, JW Black and Tiger beer.Charming waiting staff and very polite.Ordered chicken lettuce wrap, vegetable spring rolls, salt and pepper prawns. Our mains half duck, chicken fired rice, sweet and sour prawns and chicken in black bean sauce.They were all well received and I would highly recommend the starters besides veg spring rolls which were tiny and not made in the kitchen by the chef.Peking duck was delightful and plenty to go round.Chicken Black bean was tasty and very flavoursome.Still had room for deserts, so ordered toffee apple with ice cream.The waiting staff were very attentive and found them friendly too.We would love to visit again but a long way for us to come down.If in the area, would return for sure.Our bill came to around £160 with service charge. Well deserved.

One of the nicest Chinese restaurants I have ever had the pleasure to dine in. Very comfortable & relaxing surroundings with kind, attentive staff. Delicious food attractively presented. Being in a main street location means allowing time to find a parking space but the effort will be well rewarded.So far as the writer is aware, lunch-time service ends at 14.30 - so check this out to avoid being rushed if, indeed, that should happen.

A regular visitor to this restaurant and felt it only right to highlight that the food is always consistently good, service is always polite and food always on time. In terms of improvements to get a real 5 star level 1. Please don’t warm up items (particularly sauces) using a microwave as you can actually see the food items that have been excessively heated up in a microwave. 2. please double check the cleanliness of the glasses as sometimes they have a slight smell and it’s a bit off putting when having some mineral water 3. The fish fillets needs to be a better quality and white pure - it can often be a bit too grey.It’s a good overall restaurant but needs to pay attention to the fine details

Anytime we visit ,food is amazing ,service is great ,can not fault this place ,one of my favourites and would not hesitate to recommend

First time here, restaurant very busy for a Tuesday night. Food was ok but the portion size was very small, four salt and pepper prawns in our starter. Service was hit and miss, attentive at times but then had to ask for a fork three times before we got one

We enjoyed a charity evening at Tai Pan. The venue was well suited to a private party with a nice warm ambiance. The staff worked very hard on the evening. The food is traditional British Chinese - nothing too adventurous but good quality and flavours.

Went with family. We were all vegetarian and they did have enough vegetarian options on the menu. The portions were very small and quite bland. Found the food quite oily and salty. Felt like you had to order lots of small dishes, but it all had the same underlying taste. Would not recommend or go again. It’s trying to be a ‘fine dining’ restaurant but without the substance.

Friends took us out hoping to change my mind about this place. Food came out with a gloopy msg sauce and portion sizes were small. We tried dishes recommended in the reviews here but I’ll be honest, nothing really jumped out as I’ve eaten fantastic Chinese cuisine elsewhere.

After seeing so many favourable recommendations we went with our closest friends last weekend.

We have been going to this great place for years. Its quality is always consistent and its menu though it did not change much over the years is still a quite ecclestic and perfectly fashionable selection of great dishes. We do not find many other restaurants across the world with this sophisticated menu.

We have been regular diners over the years at the Tai Pan Restaurant. I am not sure how they do it but the food is always piping hot and delicious. The staff come and go but the owners are always there. Lovely as always.

I do enjoy the food here. I've been several times and each time the food is consistently good, whether that be for lunch, dinner as a family or as big groups.

This restaurant is a family fave. As a birthday treat or a family get together this is the best place for a fussy bunch.

We have been many times, usually with a group of friends. The food is excellent, the place is usually busy but not overly noisy. The service is not particularly friendly but efficient.

Went on a miserable Sunday evening after Christmas and was surprised at how popular and busy the restaurant was. Staff are very accommodating and welcoming and the food is really good. We had young baby with us which was not a problem. Excellent choice for Vegetarians and also anyone with allergies. They will custom make if you tell them. Not cheap but neither expensive and well worth a visit.

Great Chinese food, incredibly flavoured and lots of veggie options which is also a bonus point! We ordered the asparagus which was so delicious. Spring rolls, dumplings, soups and much more. All perfect tasting and affordable prices.

Went here last night and the food was good however the service wasn’t. The staff are very rude and aggressive, not polite at all and rush you throughout the meal. When I asked for a recommendation for my son, I got a response: it depends what he likes. Such a shame as the food was good but the staff ruin the experience.

Lovely decor. Great service. Small portions for very very average Chinese food at prices which would lead you to believe it would be high quality. Won't be rushing back.

In all my years of eating Chinese food it’s always been affordable, large portions, tasty and doesn’t burn a hole in your pocket. Well this restaurant is quite the opposite. We told them it was a birthday dinner and no effort was made to make this meal any special.

Ate here with some family last night.

We were invited out by some friends. We had to wait ages to be seated even though there were empty tables as at the weekend Tai Pan do two seatings. This was silly.

Tried this restaurant again but it was still really bad food. Think next time we wont give it benefit of doubt. Go to other Chinese restaurants in the neighborhood!

We only had two courses but they were very good. I liked my chicken with yellow bean sauce and cashews.

Went for dinner yesterday! Very very poor level of service. Felt like the staff were forced to work - no smile on their faces and whilst placing order, one of the waiter had the audacity to roll over his eyes as if we have done something wrong. When asked for extra cutlery they said they dont have enough knifes so use the chop stick!

Poor food crispy duck dry tasteless and obviously cooked advance.Pancakes cold dry and curled up. No apology for poor food and had to order drink3 times before it came

We go here periodically and the food is decent, slightly overpriced but it's the only Chinese restaurant within walking distance

A nice Chinese restaurant located in Northwood. Access was easy, with street parking. Quick service and tasty food. Prices also reasonable. A nice place.

Northwood is hardly the place to find a Chinese restaurant that is as good as anywhere in central London. The menu is extensive, the food delicious, the service excellent. It is a bit pricy - £30 a head without drinks - but you get what you pay for. We have used their takeaway for years but the restaurant is a better option.

Service was simply awful, waiters are rude and do not give the level of service required. You need to beg for it!

When we booked the table we were very abruptly told that we would need to vacate by 2pm lunch booking giving us 1.5 hours to eat. It started badly.

I visited Tai Pan with my friends for lunch. We booked a table for 12.30pm and the lady on the phone was extremely rude and said she would only take the booking if we left the restaurant by 2pm.

I returned here after many years to find the place had revamped. I have to say the food was excellent and we were pleasantly surprised. The quality was superb- particularly the vegetarian mock meat dishes which were amongst the best we've had. Service was punctual and attentive, and the food came out speedily. My only complaint is that the food is a little expensive and portions on the smaller side. Nevertheless well worth a return visit.

Love this restaurant and foo. I have know Paul the owner for 30 years plus when he had a small restaurant in Edgware called Happy Valley. He would take time to carve vegetables to the kids into amazing shapes. The food here is beautifully presented compared to other Chinese restaurants. The taste of each dish is unique and not the MSG flavouring that some have. The price reflects this quality.All or friends enjoyed a variety of dishes. Will certainly keep coming back and recommend to anyone to try.

Bro and I went here tonight. Honestly first class service and first class food. I totally unreservedly recommend.

We had heard great things about Tai Pan so we decided to go there one evening. The positives were the staff, who were friendly and relatively attentive and also the layout of the restaurant. The negative was the food. Our starters came out within minutes of ordering (never a good sign), the food tasted like it was sitting there for a while and was quickly reheated, I've never had such an awful smoked chicken before. The salted asparagus was also a strange colour and didn't taste fresh. The mains were a little better but it's certainly not worth the money.

Me & my wife visited Tai pan last night for the first time on the recommendation of a family friend.

Tai Pan has been refurbished since I last visited and it looks good. The menu is good although we found the set menu a bit bland and the portions small given the prices.

Wide ranging menu with all the old favourites plus some less common dishes available. Staff polite, prompt and obliging when we wanted to order some slight variants! Food was sizzling hot (apart from the jasmine tea, which was a bit on the cool side even...

The food can either be wonderful or disappointing, depending on what you order. Customer service is questionable.

It’s been ages since we last visited Tai Pan and we enjoyed our evening. The decor was not as posh...

I have been to Tai Pan about a dozen times over the years, and the food and service had always been consistent. Last night the service was good, although sometimes a little intrusive. The food was poor. A lot of it bland and tasteless, My favourite is hot and sour soup, I know how good the food is going to be by tasting this soup, it was awful.

Dined here one Thursday evening having booked in advance. The restaurant is a short walk from Northwood tube station.

As it says on their web site, the restaurant is open for lunch from 12 to 2.30. Not last orders at 2.30 but closing at 2.30. We finished (just about) on time after entering the restaurant at the not so late time of 1.15. We were reminded at 2.10 that the kitchen was closing. Did we feel rushed: yes.

We went with friends and family in a group of 15. My husband had already pre-warned the restaurant before our visit, that my daughter has a severe allergy and they had confirmed it would not be a problem. We reminded them of the allergy on arrival and again whilst ordering.However, when my daughter complained about feeling sick during starters, the waitress who we had informed about the allergy and who served us the food said the food had been cooked in oil that would have been contaminated. We were horrified that they had completely ignored the allergy despite their assurances that it would not be a problem.This level of ignorance on life threatening allergies should not be allowed in restaurants. It is utterly irresponsible and completely ruined the whole evening for us as we had to leave during starters. My daughter was pertified but thankfully she was ok as we managed to give her her antihistamines quickly. We will definitely not be going back.

We have been coming to Tai Pan for over 20 years and one thing has been consistent. The quality of dishes and their taste. Love the broccoli with peppercorn and smoked chicken for starters, duck for second and chicken with black bean sauce. And to top it off, soy sauce with fried garlic and chillis. Great restaurant with prompt service. Does get busy so book early.

My family visit this place very often as is one of our favourite restaurants :) the food is delicious the staff is great and what you paid is fair :) great place

The atmosphere is lovely and romantic. Ideal for romantic night out. The food is also excellent. Only drawback is the size of the portions. Slightly small for prices charged.

The food here is very nice the presentation is great buy every time I come I always feel it lacks a friendly warm touch. I had booked for 2 people but my daughter wanted to come at the last minute we booked for 6pm which is when they open when we got inside and mention we had another person the lady that greeted us (if you can call it that) was not pleased and showed that she was not pleased and we all felt rather awkward. We were told to leave by 8pm which was fine but I think all the staff could do with going on a customer service course. I won't be eating there for a while.

Come here when we want to sit in rather than order takeaway but it seems to be progressively going downhill. We usually order a mix selection of starters and mains but tend to stick to the same things that we know are usually good albeit slightly overpriced for location and portion size. This time we veered off and it was a huge mistake.Stood around waiting by entrance for a few minutes whilst they seated people who had no reservation, no acknowledgment, nothing, and when we were eventually acknowledged it was with a huffy "yes?" No smile, reservation checked and waiter walked off. We presumed to follow him and luckily he was indeed taking us to our table. It was busy but a warmer greeting wouldn't go amiss and doesn't take extra time! Service was dreadful - trying to catch the eye of any waiting person to pour more wine (made worse by the fact that despite there being plenty of room around the table they stash the bottle on the opposite side of the room) was hopeless - we literally followed them around the room numerous times, gesturing, shouting "hello"......and they checked literally every table except our corner! Standing up seemed to do the trick and they came rushing over. Brilliant! Having ordered mixed starters but asking for a few more minutes to decide on mains was another mistake. Our sharing platter arrived very quickly with half the plate covered in seaweed and a couple of tiny portions of ribs, oily hard toast, satay and spring pastry (filling unknown it was just pastry as far as I could tell). Tasted and looked like a supermarket take away box of sides. Totally not worth it better off ordering separate starters that at least appear to be freshly cooked.Our plates were whipped away before we could order our mains hence another round of trying to catch someone's attention.....Mains were not great. Singapore noodles tasted like dry curry powder noodles and were inedible for me. I like their chow mein and should have stuck to that. King prawn dish had around 5 prawns in it and was ok. Chilli beef basket was just sweet sticks of carrot and what tasted like jerky. Egg fried rice hard to get wrong so was fine.Overall disappointing service last 2 occasions we have been here and food even more so this time around. For almost £100 for a quick mid week dinner it wasn't worth it and we won't be back in a hurry.

Been coming here over a number of years, and it's reliable - food is generally of good quality and the restaurant is kept tidy with pleasant decor.

We have recently moved to Northwood and thought we would give some of the local restaurants a try. As my favourite food is Chinese, this had to be one of the first! Just had a fantastic meal here with the husband and couldn't actually fault a thing. Atmosphere was lovely and food was amazing, I have no negative for any of the dishes in the Peking Set Menu, which we tried. Customer service is great too, can't wait to return again soon!

We have been here many times having known the owner for over 30 years. Every time we have been recently we have missed him as he was in Hong Kong. A shame because he add to the atmosphere of the restaurant. The food is delicious and innovative and very well presented. The staff are very courteous but felt that there was something lacking in the ambiance. we will certainly go back and hope that we catch a night when Paul is there.

We had a double date here earlier this year and I was a bit apprehensive eating here at first as to me Chinese food is take away and not something you eat at a restaurant! However, the restaurant was well decorated and was very busy on the Saturday night we visited. The food itself was delicious and the staff were helpful enough. We ordered various starters including the pancakes and duck and a chicken, seafood and vegetable stir fry with noodles for mains. The mains portions are about right as you're probably bound to eat loads of starters like we did! Would definitely visit again!

This was where my family's special dinners were celebrated and since moving away from the area, my family still talk about how lovely all our meals were there. Then we decided to make a trip down the memory lane - still located in the same place, and unsurprisingly now a bigger restaurant. They still offer the same delicious sizzling dishes with five sea spices and other sauces, and as usual, bringing their prawn crackers as a non-official starter. We had missed their prawn toasts too (which we ordered and it's the way it was always done!) and their duck with pancakes. We didn't recognise any of the staff but they were lovely as ever. We're planning our next trip soon.

The Tai Pan is comfortable in a slightly deadening way and the staff are friendly and obliging, but the food is very ordinary. I ate a bowl of hot and sour soup; it didn't contravene the Trades Descriptions Act, but it had a glutinous quality which didn't appeal. Pork with cashew nuts seemed not to contain any cashew nuts; the pork and vegetables which arrived had all been cut into little cubes and fried, and if there was a sauce it didn't add much to the taste. My wife's deep-fried baby squid and sizzling lamb seemed a little better, but all in all our lunch was an underwhelming culinary experience.

Visited this place with my sister a couple of months ago and even though it's was empty inside we thought of trying it out. The restaurant is so dark, cold and dim inside, with super bland food that fits in well with the atmosphere. We simply did not enjoy the food at all and could not wait to get out. I would never re-visit if they paid me.

it was nice to go non weekend. all the food was hot and fresh. was with a vegetarian and must say the tofu and aubergine and chinese mushrooms were excellent.

Really lovely food with excellent service. Great decor and ambience. Extensive knowledge of Gluten Free food with a separate GF menu. Would go again.

Food at the Tai Pan both eat in and take away is second to none. Nothing is too much trouble if you want to mix and match. everything is superb

Tai Pan in Northwood is arguably one of the best if not he best Chinese restaurants in NW London.The food and absolutely devine with exceptional service.We visit as a family and as a group of lads regularly and the service is never rushed and we are always accommodated for.The ambience is amazing with new decor and the restaurant is very smart. The staff are always willing to help choose and tailor dishes for you. I like extra extra crispy noodles and they make that for me always and without fuss.They offer a collect service too.My wife and girls love this place as do the boys.Well done Tai Pan Northwood

We've been visiting Tai Pan in Northwood for over twenty years now and still love andHighly recommend its Asian fusion cuisine. Never disappoints. Really lucky to have this in our locality.

Generally, the food here is okay. better than your average chinese at least. the issue we had, on this occasion, we called and asked to reserve a table for two and one baby they said they are fully booked... i doubted they were as the response was very quick. my wife called back few mins later and asked to book at the same time but for a table for two (no baby), they said they had seating ! How shameful.We liked this place, but there are other chinese places around which are good who are open to young families.

Made an enquiry if the chicken is halal and was severed very rudely over the phone by both waiter and apparent manager

We went here to celebrate my son in laws birthday.and chose the Peking Set Menu.It came really fast which of course menas it was not freshly prepaired.!st course was 4 tiny stale tasting sping rolls,seaweed,4 tiny dry chicken on sticks and 4 small samosas. Followed by some dry Aromatic Chicken and dry pancakes.The a generous portion of very nice fried rice, mediocre sweet and sour pork, sizzeling beef with spring onion and ginger which was some brown mush and has been previously reported. All this for £26 each. This food was no better than a cheap chinese buffet. We had an extra dish of sea food chow mein and again this was small and only just OK. We had 1 dessert and coffee. Total £156 for 4. What a disaster. A complaint only recieved an apology ann no rectification in the way of a refund or offer of another meal.Stay away.

I have been looking for a good local Chinese restaurant that I can enjoy with the children and this is it. I ordered a selection of vegetarian, seafood and meat starters, all of which were very tasty. I would recommend the Capital Ribs and Phoenix Prawns. Sometimes the fried food at a Chinese restaurant can be too oily, but this was not the case with the dishes I ordered. The mains were also good and I particularly enjoyed the Grilled Fish with ginger and garlic. I do find that the vegetarian options at Chinese restaurants are fairly uninspiring but Tai Pan does offer a better choice than many other Chinese restaurants I have visited.I found the service to be fine. The staff were attentive, did not rush me to place my order and were polite. Would I dine here again? Definitely.

The setting is really nice, very clean and modern.The service was very slow on this visit which was not like our previous visits, waiting for 25 minutes for the midway course and refreshing drinks.You must book to get a table because it is very popular. Go and try it for yourself, you won't be disappointed........

Went as two couples and even our gluten intolerant guest was taken care of. Scallops starter was great. We ordered fish sweet and sour but were served chicken sweet and sour instead however they speedily remedied this once the mistake was brought to their attention. Staff levels were generally good which meant good service which was needed on a Saturday night as it was fairly full put not rammed. Came here a few months ago and the experience was consistent and would come here again. Was good but lacks that X factor which would have given it a 5 star rating.

I recently visited this restaurant with my boyfriend for dinner.We thought the food,service,ambience all to be very good and would not hesitate to return when we are next in the area.

I have been coming here since I was a baby and no matter where else I go, I always find myself coming back to Tai Pan. We always come here for special occasions and sometimes because we are 'craving Tai Pan'For starters my family and I usually have:Sesame Prawn ToastCrispy Asparagus Basket (it doesn't really taste like asparagus)Salt and Pepper BroccoliSalt and Pepper Prawns Capital Spare RibsWe have the Crispy Aromatic Duck for the middle course.We then have our main meal:Sea Spiced VegetablesLamb in Black Pepper SauceChicken in Black Bean Sauce Garlic Fried RiceEgg Fried RiceOther good dishes are the Singapore Noodles and their fish dishes are really nice.Desert is always pretty perfect with the standard toffee apples and bananas. Staff are good, the managers are lovely and the owner Paul is always friendly!As much as I love this place I have to admit the service is hit and miss and it really does kill me to say it, because I wish it wasn't. Please also know to reserve over a week in advance for Friday or Saturday nights.

Nearly always excellent and this time was not an exception.Excellent food and very good service, slightly dearer than other local oriental restaurants, but well worth it. Still have the same problem i always have, when using the disabled toilet they store high chairs in there so I can not turn my wheelchair around. I have given up counting the number times I have told them about this issue.
