Sweet Thursday in Hackney

Came here right after opening on a Tuesday so was quite and very chill! Staff were super lovely and the two pasta dishes we got were such great value for money, so filling and yummy! The menu is super easy and has a kids menu also! Seems that this place is named after the book Sweet Thursday by John Steinbeck, you will find passages from the book frames in the restrooms! Will definitely return!

A late lunch, place was fairly quiet but service was quick. Not the usual independent pizza restaurant design and the formica tables give a bit of a retro style. Both pizzas were nice enough with a good amount of topping although not the thinnest bases. Also shared a starter and 500ml carafe of wine - bill for two came to about £64. Overall would probably say 3.5 stars and would eat here again but not likely to be a regular.

Want to recommend this place to anyone around the area - food was lovely and the service from all the staff and manager on duty was brilliant and attentive - we felt really welcome while eating here and will definitely be back because of the friendly service.

The most hipster place around the area ... too overrated! Not many vegetarian options either...

A grossly misplaced, unwelcoming, lecturing attitude by the shift manager (female, late 20s). And, for a second time on my visit. Past comments suggest numerous people have had similar experiences. How any business would affort such attitude in their personel in customer facing roles is a downright curiousity. The pizza was not great, and the pricing on the higher side of reasonable. Management internal review recommended.

Delicious Pizzas, pastas, antipasti and other dishes. The pizzas are the highlight! The dipping sauces are also great. Friendly service and good vibes. Nice selection of cocktails and wines.

LOVE this place. Have only been once but the pizza was fantastic, staff were great and the atmosphere is lovely. Number 1 pizza choice in the area.

Just had bad experience at Sweet Thursdays which is a shame as I’ve been a customer for 6 or 7 years. Ordered pizza and glass of wine. Staff took order and then all of them went into training exercise and staff feeding (customers left to their own devices). Once I’d finished and had managed to get staff to help I asked for the bill and for the remaining half of the pizza to be wrapped up in foil as I’d come by bicycle and couldn’t carry a box. I don’t know how this offended the young woman to whom I made the request but she informed me that she would bring the bill and get me a bag. The said bag when it arrived was smaller than the pizza (which was obvious) and even though I stacked the pizza the pizza was sticking out of the bag. I showed this to her and she said she would get another bag. She then asked me if everything had been alright and I said it had been fine until the end when she failed to sort to take away part. She didn’t respond well to this and took my overflowing bag away and returned it a few minutes later. On my exit she sarcastically wished me well and I raised a question about her career in the service industry. I got 10 steps down the road and then went back and dropped the remaining pizza back to the restaurant asking that she be told I was no longer interested in the pizza. (Once out of site no longer safe). Such a shame for such a lovely local pizzeria.

Erm, when did the service get so bad? New management? Sat waiting to be served for 20 minutes. We decided to eat the brownie we brought with us instead.

Great food and service as always! All the staff were extremely kind and helpful even over the peak Saturday service. Definitely recommend!

Atmosphere and staff super friendly but sadly the food was somewhat disappointing this time. Dog friendly which is a bonus.

First time so not sure may be different after second time

The food was great, unfortunately we were a table of 12 with a child sat at the end of the restaurant. Didn’t really appreciate being told off for being too loud, we simply chatted amongst our table, we couldn’t have been any louder than the average table of 12, but made our night super awkward. One of our other friends walked around to say hi to the child and the wait staff asked if she could remain seated. If you’re going for a nice relaxed atmosphere, you definitely need to chill out.

Food was alright not great. Kitchen Staff (old guy and presumably his wife( stared me down angrily for my entire stay. Very uncomfortable sitting.

Woah! This carbonara was a scary sight. Picture ramen noodles and egg yolk icing and this is this meal. Nobody asked me how it was so I couldn’t tell em, but yeah it was bad. Very overcooked, very grim.

Very good ingredients and good menu choice at acceptable prices for quality and quantity but dough definitely needs to be improved because it was a bit heavy

One of the best pizzas I've had in 2023, good size and fairly reasonable prices. Good and quick service. Have a nice selection of beers, although predominantly in bottles.

Liked the place like the vibe was great however the pizza was just okay. We also tried the burrata w aubergine which was really really really good only if the veg was cooked for 4 minutes more it’d be perfect!!!!

We ate here on our first night in London. Our server was very nice and we did not have to wait long at all for our food or to be seated. We both got a marinara pizza and it was delicious!

Was just rudely told not to sit in the empty table at this place and told to sit closer to the road just in case any larger groups turned up even though the same sized table just an extra chair. Staff were so rude and I eat here very week, never again!!!

Have been a regular visitor here for years while performing and seeing shows next door at The Free Association improv theatre above De Beauvoir Arms pub. GREAT Neapolitan style pizza, friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere.

In a half empty restaurant I was asked to sit closer to the rode even though there were 3 empty tables outside just in case they got larger parties in. Same size table just one extra chair different. When I said no I’m happy sitting here I was told move or leave. I eat here every week never again!!!! Such rude staff!!!

Great place for pizza. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. They have some beautiful maps of Italy hanging on the walls which makes the place really charming. In general, great vibe. I also like the selection of toppings.

Fancied trying a new pizza place and found this on Google Maps. We built our own vegan pizzas with the Marinara base. I loved mine (I added artichokes and vegan Nduja) but thought the prices were a bit steep - £2 for each additional toppings. The Pizza of the Month didn't have a vegetarian or vegan equivalent. The waiter was very friendly, and even explained to us what the restaurant is named after. It was nice to eat outside in the sun. I love my fresh juice (apple, pear, ginger, carrot) The inside is very well-decorated too. They do gelato which we didn't try. Overall a really nice place albeit expensive compared to other pizza places (we paid £41.34 for 2 pizzas and 2 drinks!), and perhaps best to go with meat eaters.

We asked to organize a dinner with friends in the Cannery which is a very nice and private room. We were adults and children and we had a great time. The organization was perfect. the staff took care of us with great professionalism and dedication. Food is very good suited for adults and children we were also able to listen our favorite music. Perfect evening!

This place used to be great. I'm a local, and I used to eat here quite regularly. However, in the past few years the quality of the pizza has dropped and the price has rocketed. My recurring problem with the pizza is that it is undercooked whilst also being burnt. I'm effectively eating burnt, uncooked dough. Neapolitan pizza isn't like this but that is the recurring response when I mention it. Go to Rudy's in Soho and you'll experience what Sweet Thursday used to be (I'm not meaning to advertise for them though, it's an example!). Way too many kids and dogs for my liking too, but I understand that's what others are after so not exactly a criticism, just not what I'm after. The staff are great as always though :)

One of the best if not the best pizza I have had in London! Pizza of the month was with speck, mozzarella, porcini and pistachios and it was absolutely amazing. But all of them were great the dough was so fluffy and fresh but the base nice and thin. Good prices, nice environment very family friendly and good service and friendly staff. Highly recommend!

Pressured by the staff to order more than we needed, left more than a pizza behind, included a forced tip in the price. Very greasy and sauce was overwhelming any topping, ignored removal of certain toppings. Crust was quite nice though.

Pretty disappointed with the overall experience. Ordered two pizzas, one of which they failed to remove the requested ingredients and was incredibly runny making the base of the pizza soggy. The customer service was lacking and they forced an additional service fee on top.

My friend recently moved to the area and after visiting some of the pubs in the area, we stopped here for pizza. It was incredible - for me, it was the best pizza experience since 2019. But first, let me say something about the atmosphere. It is incredibly cozy, a bit like a wine bar - lively but never hectic. The waitress was friendly and efficient. The wine was excellent but the highlight was the food. The starter was zucchini crisps with a dip - I never had anything like this before and you simply must try it when you are there. The meal started incredibly strong but the pizza was even better. I have never tasted a salami like this outside Italy. Fantastic.

Staff started cleaning up the place before 21:30, leaving the door open and letting the freezing air in. There was a clear sense that we should leave ASAP.

We went for dinner at 7-8pm. The service was ok although we got forgotten twice. The pizzas were nice and you could choose how well done you want it. The absence of any fabric in the room makes it very noisy if it is full or if there are small children present. Two pizzas with wine £60.

We booked The Cannery for my partner's 30th birthday - and it was perfect! Service was attentive and quick but you also had a great amount of privacy. The room was set-up in a lovely, relaxed fashion and the food was great! It really was perfect for our private event. Thank you all!

Delicious Neapolitan pizza, yum tiramisu, great service, very friendly staff and good selection of wines! Lovely vibe, in the heart of De Beauvoir, one of the gems of the area. Spacious inside but also a few tables outside when it's nice and warm. One of my favourite dinner spots around. Definitely worth the visit!

The venue was a nice ambience with very polite staff. However we felt we had to wait quite some time for our food to arrive. maybe will visit back in the summer.

What a restaurant! We dined in on a Monday night and it really started to get a little busy which added to the perfect ambiance. I might be a romantic but I found it to be so reminiscent of sitting in little restaurants in Italy in the winter. Food was superb, wine was delicious, hospitality was excellent, and everything was well paced. Thank you, and we will be back!

Love it here .. took two little people post swim and we had the delicious fried courgettes and pizzas, always such a warm welcome even though we were quite late for our booking (I did call!) would highly recommend

Seventeen of us for a family and friends’ get-together Sunday lunchtime. Morgan and her team looked after us very well. The pizzas were delicious and everyone enjoyed the drinks, the atmosphere and the ambience.

Good pizza but definitely needs at least one more amazing vegetarian/vegan option! The zucchini isn't so amazing that it holds it own as the only veggie other than margherita/buffolata/marina (basic tomato cheese options).

Terrible delivery. Consistently undercooked, toppings missing, and more often than not, they forget one or two items of the order. Tried the place too - sticky tables, dirty toilets, and food takes forever to arrive. Better options around.

The nicest scrumdiddlyumptious pizza! I’ve ever had. I was greeted by one awesome waitress. Also the waiter was super cool!!! they are a lovely establishment for food/friend/family or even a solo meal!

Mixed feedback. The pizza was okay. Less good than the first time I had it. The dough is great, but toppings leave something to be desired, even though they sound fancy. Be careful of the tip option on the card machine! A standard London service charge is already included in the bill, so it's easy to pay twice for service... which is good but not that good! Ambience is nice, but impossible to take good photos of anything in the yellowy light.

The food was of a good quality and good size portions. Decent prices and friendly staff, they did leave us waiting a bit too long as they wanted the table back after an hour and a half. We weren't rushed though so it was ok.

Neapolitan pizza is not undercooked pizza, and they need to understand that. The first time at the restaurant I thought it would be a one off; the second one it was take away I just put it in my own oven to finish it. The third time (take away again), it needed the oven AND then a few minutes on a pan otherwise the raw and water-dripping dough would fall apart. It's a shame as I think the ingredients are really good quality but no, you shouldn't try to deliver twice as many pizzas as your oven has the capacity for, at the expense of customers' time and electricity, and even less when they are on the pricey side.

This is our local pizze restaurant and we constantly return, amazingly tasty pizzas and lovely staff. Highly recommended.

Good value for money and staff are always so nice

Good ingredients and dough, but the pizzas could do with some more time in the oven. One thing is to make them "Napoli style"; a very different thing is to try to make 10 pizzas in the time you make three, at the expense of customers' time and electricity. Last night we ordered 3 pizzas, two of them were so soggy in the centre that they the dough was basically raw, falling apart, and with liquid coming from the centre.Leaving them in the oven for as long as they need will ruin the rocket, so after the oven i had to transfer them to a pan. It's the third time it happens, and possibly the last one I'm afraid.

Very nice neighbourhood Italian bistro, friendly staff and buzzy ambiance. We had pasta and pizza, both very good. Good cocktails, we had Negronis and the wine list is reasonable. Recommended.

Dec'22, nice evening meal with grandchildren and their parents. The place was warm. The food was very tasty and good. The child portion was perfect and supply of crayons and picture to color a great idea. A large food & drink selection is available.

Two great pizzas to share. One with a tomato base and one with a pea pesto base! Totally yummy. A nice glass of Basque wine for me and a choice of alcohol-free beers for my friend. Quiet (a Monday night) but friendly and warm!

The place was extremely loud....food was ok but I wouldn't say great. I've been before and the food was better - I'm hoping it was just a one off that the food was just ok.

Pizzas taste excellent here, though my only criticism is that the toppings are too large! Maybe just down to preference, but for me the toppings just slid off when trying to eat them.

This is one of the best pizza places I’ve eaten, and trust I have had a few. Simple and wonderfully fresh ingredients with the perfect base. I would eat here every day if it wouldn’t kill me
