Was at The Swan tonight for a belated birthday meal .The service was excellent and the food was just as good .Couldnt fault it in anyway Nice to see them back doing what they do best

First time that I had been in a restaurant since last year and was not disappointed. very covid aware and we both felt very safe. Lovely atmosphere and the place was really busy. Staff very attentive and courteous.We both had seafood salad which was very nice but a fraction heavy on the greenery, a bit more fish would have been nice. Very fresh and tasty and well presentedTwo Chocolate desserts later and we had done, all in all a very good experience and at £42.00 inc two soft drinks good value for money.

Nice food, nice setting. Sat outside in the breeze to have a pint under current restrictions. Food was really nice, staff very friendly, what more could you ask for!

Our first visit for a late lunch and most impressed. Good selection of food including salads, delicious, well presented and good value. Restaurant was bright and the decor contributed to a very welcoming ambience. Staff friendly and efficient- will be back :-)

Been going here for the past few weeks for bar lunch. Been very happy with the food and service. Waitresses all very cheery and welcoming and food excellent.

Went there the other night, dining area was uncomfortably cold, food wasn't great, wasn't warm either. Wrong drinks got brought twice, girl behind the bar had an attitude to say the least. First time I've been for a year or so and I won't be back. Disappointed in the whole experience

Booked a couple of days prior for anniversary lunch and very welcoming on the phone.We arrived and friendly staff showed us to our table ,Covid measures excellent with details taken with QR code on phone. All 4 of us had different starters and main courses and all enjoyed.First time we have been but will not be the last.Its So important to support these local businesses in these difficult times.if not you could lose them altogether.

Came here saturday with my husband for tea, they managed squeeze us in about 17.15 due to new restrictions, husband had the tam burger he loved it he always gets burgers wherever we eat so nos a good 1 said it was delicious and hes really fussy I had the korma chicken with half n half was so tasty I really enjoyed it nicest curry iv ever had on a meal out and we visit lots of Indians it was so delicious, staff are lovely very polite and friendly customer service seems to have gone thru the window lately with all the covid stuff but not here very pleasant staff we will defo be returning and highly recommend it's a gem.

What a beautiful place. Food great and staff were so welcoming and friendly. 1st class customer service. Very rare these days. We are on holiday and have already planned our next visit.

We visited for lunch en route to Ayr.We wanted to sit outside & were delighted with the table we got in the beer garden. It was a bit of a sun trap (a good thing in October!).Staff & facilities were all set up for Covid-19 - very reassuring.Lovely Beef & Ale pie & a pint of IPA.Highly recommended.

Saturday lunch for 3 friends. Lovely setting and well laid out inside, Covid wise Food was ok, nothing amazing, but nice enough.Service could be better... don’t see why you need to ask more than once for condiments/sauces/milk & coffee. Too many different servers at the table also.

I ate here on a Saturday night. Covid measures were good. There was a good choice of dishes and the food was of a good quality. The service was good and the food was very reasonably priced. There was on street parking. I would eat here again.

I have never had a bad meal here and have been back 2 times in the space of 2 weeks. The staff have always been polite and friendly - atmosphere is always good too. They have got a 1 way system in place and hand sanitiser placed at both the entrance to the garden and the front door, track and trace all done on your phone so can be done as you wait. The drink options are good with a lot of different options both alcoholic and non-alcoholic.Food selection is varied and caters to all needs and the puddings are brilliant - would highly recommend to anyone.

Had lunch at the Swan food average , atmosphere pleasant until leaving first time out because of lock down .Apologise for standing near bar when husband paying did say sorry at time Young lady behind bar quite snippy .Did spoil it .wont be out again for sometime.

Went for a meal here when staying for the weekend after having a drink in the afternoon as seemed busy. Lovely location and good service. There was quite an extensive menus and the food was lovely. The nacho starter was amazing and I had as a main and was definitely enough. Would definitely return.

disappointed again ive been to this restaurant 3 or 4 times over the years and never had a good meal yet thought i would try a steak this time but they over cooked it also dianne sauce is made with onions, mushrooms dijon mustard, brandy and cream not the concoction that i was served which was a thick congeled mess with tomato and no flavour i suggest the chef (home cook) checks a recipe on this and gives the customer what they ask for

Had a wonderful Sunday lunch here today. Lamb was delicious, husband had cod mornay equally delicious. If you have room try the sundaes. I had the Jaffa cake one: out of this world!!!Service good and attentive. It was very busy but had good Covid measures in place and we felt safe. Busy because of the extremely good food: local people obviously eat here a lot and I don’t blame them., if we return to Dumfries will too.

The staff are excellent very informative about the menu and generally did well looking after us. The food is high quality pub grub with very generous plate sizes. We would certainly return when in the area. Thank you.

We had a nice evening meal at the Swan and felt that they were taking COVID precautions seriously. The food was straightforward pub fare, priced reasonably, cooked well and served efficiently. We each had a starter and main, and felt that the portions were big.If you go, make sure you arrive hungry!

5x adults and a baby and a 3 year old had dinner there this evening. It has been a long time since I was last here.. I shouldn't gave waited so long. We arrived bang on time for out 6 o'clock table. Greeting was very friendly. Our table was ready and waiting for us. Ordered drinks and they arrived verh quickly indeed. Food ordered. Starters came and then our server told us that the kitchen was choc a block and our meals would take longer than usual. Great honesty and very much appreciated. Time to catch up with each other. The mains and puds were great. Cooked properly. All in all our overall time there from entry to bill was just over 2 hours...... Took me back to the day when the length of time having a meal out waspeppared with laughter and great chit chat. Our server was probably the best I have seen in a long long time. Attentive, polite, great sense of humour but neveroverpowering... All in all 10/10

Very pleasant meal in a nice setting. Friendly, quick service and good value (we paid £40 for 2 starters, 2 mains and a couple of drinks). Good range of meal options, including for veggies. A lot of pub restaurants seem to have a limited menu at the moment, which is understandable, but this restaurant offered a wider range of meals which was very welcome. Highly recommended.

Came here for a lunch time feed during a long journey. Did the job of a fairly basic pub meal. Good choice and reasonable quality. Didnt love the segregated front of house service. Some staff covered a few tables and others had a lot more. Meant a long wait to put in our order as 'our' waitress was busy!! Stupid idea. Friendly and helpful staff but just a bit of an unevenly shared workload. Toilets were clean and had hot water which was great for washing the hands. Would recommend as long as you have time to spare.

Amazing food, 5 star staff, only very slight downfall was my fussy dad who likes plain food and was really looking forward to the gammon steak but it came on a plate of balsamic dressing (not a huge issue to normal people) but it was to him, if it had been on the menu he would have asked for it to come without

Travelling through Dumfries enroute further north and found The Swan in the Internet. Just outside Dumfries and managed to get a last minute reservation (no mean feat in COVID times)Welcome and COVID precautions excellent and well organisedService and food excellent at a reasonable price. As measures of real food I often use some of the desserts that are regularly plasticised by many lower quality outlets however at The Swan:Sticky toffee pudding was beautiful in a butterscotch sauce. Banoffee Pie - often dessert that can be bought in rubbish but at The Swan a clearly home made banoffee pie packed with real bananas. The steak also great and was told about the local source of their meat. Cooked exactly to order tooEven provided with local tourist suggestionsCan’t fault it and would come to the swan again

There was a good selection of food, service was friendly and efficient and Covid measures were really good. We went on the Eat Out to Help Out which meant the food was great value. Had we paid full price some of the food was definitely on pricey side. £11.50 for a veggie salad is definitely far too much! Our food was very nice but not amazing. We enjoyed it enough to go back a second time.

I had a very good time here last Saturday evening. I was on my own and had a table near the bar so I was able to see how well the staff and Angela coped on a warm and busy evening. I thought they were all great and maintained a sense of humour as well.My meal was most enjoyable and preceded by a couple of G's&T the whole experincewas great fun. Like some others contributors I was staying at the Holiday inn and the walk downonly took about 15 mins. Many thanks ,I highly recommend.

Lovely, friendly staff, delicious food and a safe dining experience in the sunshine. Order (for a family of four) was promptly taken and drinks served. The food order took a little longer but the quality was superb and well worth the wait ! The outside seating area was busy but all H&S measures were taken into account which made the overall experience even more enjoyable. Hand sanitiser was clearly displayed in various areas, contact details taken and scanning of the QR code on entry and exit makes it easier to ascertain who was on the premises and at what time which builds confidence in safety. Staff happy to explain the QR code to customers.

We were staying at the nearby holiday inn and popped in. Staff were very welcoming and we were given a table straight away even though we hadn’t booked. We ordered some starters only as we had dinner booked at the hotel in a couple of hours time. Starters were lovely. All other food served around us looked delicious too - was slightly gutted not to have dinner there and if we did this may have been a 5. The staff were lovely, offered us information about the hotel grounds that no one in the hotel had shared. Decor and ambiance was calm and inviting. If we weren’t leaving early I would have went back for lunch.

This is a lovely pub offering a fantastic choice of starters, mains and desserts. All the food is made to order, fresh and very tasty. The staff are friendly, happy and efficient. Great place for lunch or dinner. You need to book as it is very popular with the locals.

We would travel back to Scotland for another meal. The staff were very pleasant and the drinks very pleasant and reasonably priced. When the meals arrived they were large and looked lovely. They were hot and tasted just as good as they looked. Sweets looked lovely but unfortunately we were too full to eat one. Happy to pay the price but there are plenty of offers as well. Thank you

The Swan had been recommended to us. I went with my husband for lunch. The inn was not very warm. We were both disappointed with the food. The fish batter was greasy, and the chicken was dry. We felt the prices were high for the quality of the food.

Here for my daughter's 18th birthday couldn't have done more for me, thankyou for helping me make this a special night, food was fantastic as usual and all the staff couldnt be more helpful,highly recommended ✔

Used to visit a lot with my mother so when she passed, we brought some of the family down for a bit of lunch at the Swan. It had been a while since my last visit but when we arrived the fire was on and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. There were about 9 of us on the table and the service seemed quick for what we had ordered. Maybe just not a very busy day, it was a weekday after all. The food recieved mixed reviews from the table. The burger went down a treat as did the 2 macaronis that were ordered. However, 4 of us had fish and chips and they were quite frankly a disgrace. The batter was so soggy and heavy it was almost inedible, and then the fish inside was not much better.. only half cooked, not the usual flaky fish I wam used to when I order a fish and chips. The chips underneath were ruined by the soggy batter too. The waitress was very apologetic when i highlighted the issue and was as polite and cheerful as when we first arrived, onbiously not her fault though.The staff are an asset to The Swan, and those who didn't have the fish enjoyed their meals. Will put it down to a bad day in the kitchen and I will return, hopefully being able to leave a 5 star review next time!

The Swan was recommended to us . I went with my friends for dinner . The food was really good and if you like big portions, this is the place for you! Staff were friendly and helpful I recommend you try this place

Lovely location for both the hotel and inside as there are lots of little alcoves and private areas with no distractions for young children. Food was good and service excellent.

When you are in the Kingholm Quay area of Dumfries and are looking for somewhere nice to go for your lunch then the place that I'm about to review is the place for you, and that place is The Swan. Myself and mum went to The Swan for lunch today with friends and had a really nice lunch which consisted of a prawn marie rose sandwich with crisps and side salad which was absolutely delicious and which I would recommend washed down with diet coke. Other reasons why I like The Swan are that the place is clean, the welcome is warm and the staff are friendly. I would recommend this place

Visited here as a party of 6 over the weekend whilst visiting the area. Stunning food, we couldn't fault any of it at all 10 out of 10!

The Swan was recommended by a local and we did not go wrong. We went in without a booking which is not a good idea as they are popular. However, they managed a table for us. Meals are big and all recommendable! Deserts are out of this world. Shall visit again for sure.

The Swan at Kingholm Quay is a family favourite of ours and we managed a lovely lunch sitting outside in the beer garden which is a bit of a rarity with the recent Scottish weather.

Have been coming here for 20 plus years, since I was little, and it’s still a firm family favourite. Lovely to see they’ve updated it over the years but still kept the pub food charm. Eclectic menu, including good GF options! The salads we had were delicious and, as for the portion size, you definitely won’t be hungry after. But if you can, try squeeze in a dessert, they are delicious classics! Sticky toffee pudding in particular! All in all, good classic pub grub.

My husband and I went to the Swan Inn this evening and I ordered a prawn rissoto which was really wet and not very pleasant. This was very disappointing as I readded on TripAdvisor that the food was good.

We met up with a friend Sunday lunchtime. They were quite busy, but there was plenty of room both inside and outside ( it was a warm sunny day). I had a tuna mayonnaise salad costing about £10.50, which I thought was reasonable. Service was prompt as well.

Took my Dad here for his birthday whilst on holiday it was a lovely atmosphere nice food served with a smile from staff I knew it does get busy from a previous visit so booked from home before we came as we wanted Saturday evening glad I did as it was a beautiful day and was really busy that is a good guide to a great restaurant

a lovely " English" Pub set in Scotland where locals gather and the food is worth the visit-- a great stop if going or coming from Caerlaverock Castle or just to enjoy the setting and the short drive out of town

My fiancée and I have visited this restaurant every time we come over to see my father in law. So far five visits and 5 out of 5 on every visit. Warm friendly staff and place down be the river Nith.

Went today for a family meal it was first class food was amazing, place was really clean, service great and staff friendly food was reasonably priced will defo be back such a lovely relaxed atmosphere defo a hidden gem in Dumfries but a must for a fab meal

At the swan last Friday with our Grandchildren, we have not been there for at least 10 years ! Obviously the decor has changed but the friendly staff had not . We have been going to the swan for over 30 + years and it just keeps getting better. We used to travel to the Quay every two months for a bar supper ( we stay about 80 miles away ) The food was excellent our Grandchildren had food from the kids menu ( fish , chicken and pasta) and every plate was cleared, they then had chocolate fudge cake and banoffe pie again plates cleared We both had fish and chips and the fish was amazing , no deserts for us ! Will definitely try to head down more often and enjoy the Swan once again. It’s a great place to meet our family from Dumfries. Definitely one to recommend.

Very disappointed on arrival we were told we had come in the wrong door yet the door was open. There were plenty empty tables yet the person serving us insisted on moving tables and setting us in the middle with everyone going around us, I asked if we could get another table but got no response. We had our small grandaughter with us and ordered her fishfingers they were absolutely disgusting were grey inside I would not let her eat them. I told the waitress who said they had changed supplier . The whole lack of customer care and quality of food very disappointing would not recommend or return

A beautiful night, great GF menu-excited! Lovely member of staff took our order of GF sticky chicken etc (menu stated, chips, crispy salad and homemade coleslaw). I was then asked if I wanted rice? Not chips?? No, they’re cooked in the same fryer..... Sigh.

Busy Sunday lunchtime. So glad we booked. I had the goats cheese salad, which was absolutely delicious, my sister had the steak & ale pie and my niece the scampi. Only one pudding as there's no scrimping on the portion sizes! We all were very impressed by the friendly and efficient service and high standard of food. Wish it was closer to Aberdeen!

Gave this place another try today, we arrived on the off chance we would get a table on arriving the lady who greeted us well she needs some refresher customer service skills (she’s been there a while and clearly doesn’t know how to smile which is hugely disappointing when that’s the first person you see!!) made a bit of a thing about us not having booked but they clearly had free tables she just couldn’t be bothered. Food was just okay, kids meal was pretty rough the beans looked as they had been reheated from a previous customer and the chicken cheap rubbish. Don’t think I will rush back place has gone down hill! Some of the new staff seemed pretty decent, the ones who have been there a while could do with a wee reminder course in customer service skills!!

Always book in advance because this is a popular place. The food is good, prices are good. Service can be slow but that's mainly because of how busy it is. The food challenges are fun.

Made a last-minute booking, but were warmly welcomed at The Swan which has great indoor and outdoor seating and a play area for the children. It's also not far from the River Nith which was nice for a walk after lunch. The choice of food was great and our grandchildren were well catered for too. We had a variety of dishes including roast beef, slow-cooked lamb, lasagne and so on and everyone emptied their plates and enjoyed every last morsel. On a hot day like it was, we all opted for ice cream or sundaes and I particularly enjoyed my Tropicana Sundae. To summarise, the premises are super, so is the food and the staff are helpful and welcoming. Can't ask for better than that!

The location by the river is lovely and there are plenty of tables outdoors (as well as in). There are decent real ales and the food is pub-grub staples done well. Good portions too. It has that slightly antiseptic, efficient feel of a big brewer pub, but I'd certainly go back.

Five of us booked a table for evening. Staff were friendly. Good service. Food was good. Two course meal with wine averaged 22 pounds a head. It was an enjoyable evening. Recommend this venue.

This is a lovely pub offering tasty well-priced food just outside Dumfries. We enjoyed an easy walk along the river Nith through pretty parkland to the Swan and had a great pub meal in the bear garden. It's best to book for an indoor seat to avoid disappointment. Friendly staff. My husband loved the steak pie made with Galloway beef.

Beautifully prepared and presented. Good also to see a comprehensive gluten free menu. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and we will certainly be returning soon. There was also easy parking, much much better than being in the centre of the town.

It used to be that you could visit the Swan and expect a nice meal, unfortunately on my recent visit this was not the experience. I had a Prawn and Mushroom Parmesan Risotto, which was truly awful, firstly I had to search for the mushrooms, the Risotto was thick and quite sickly. My daughter ordered Sweet and Sour Chicken which again was just not to the standard she or I'd expected. The batter on the chicken was not light and dry but was hard and soaked in grease. After arriving back home she complained that she could feel the food lying in her stomach. I actually took a piece of the chicken myself and would agree that it was hard, greasy batter, the chicken was dry. This was very disappointing as I said previously, you could usually expect a nice meal. I don't think I'll be back until I hear better reports. On the Swan's own site I was very surprised to see how many poor reviews were posted, my experience clearly wasn't an isolated case. Hope they can rectify the cooking.

Fab little pub next door to a beautiful river. Had a lovely lunch of a ploughmans & a lamb roast. Very reasonably priced & friendly staff made our visit a pleasure. A stroll along the river after lunch capped off our lovely lunchtime excursion.

We had a light dinner here, choosing the sharing platter which was nicely presented and tasty. My husband also had a pudding which he thoroughly enjoyed. The staff were friendly and welcoming and we thought it good value.

I had the steak pie, which came with a huge heap of vegetables, and chips.

There were 10 of us including 2 children - my grandson aged 14 had so little room he had to sit sideways until the table beside us moved and we could move the tables down a bit. We were in at 6.30 - only 3 had starters - which were well fired to say the least but we didn’t get our main course until 8pm . My Mum had to go and ask where our food was as the children were needing fed- hence the reason for our early bookingThe staff were doing their best but simply couldn’t cope with the volume of people - which seemed to be mainly bookings . Food was no more than ok and we struggled to get drinks - all in all not a good experience

When we all order chips with our meal we don’t expect one bowl between us - just cheap - The Granary and Cavens much better value

We visited the swan for a evening meal Easter Sunday with our disabled daughter and we was made very welcome the food was beautiful well cooked very tasty well presented starter main and pudding there was 8 of us and we all had something different and every meal was 100% and was the best meal we have ever had in Scotland

Despite turning up just as the kitchen was due to close after a busy days service we were warmly welcomed. Menu was extensive and service cheerful and quick. Food was good pub classics including fish and veg options.

We had a couple of lovely dinners here, and weren't disappointed with any of them. The pub actually gets very busy, so it's best to book ahead if you can.

We had a search for somewhere to have lunch as one of our visitors was vegan and came up with the Swan Hotel. There were four adults one 4 year old and a baby. By the time we got there a table was already set up for us. The staff could not have been more helpful even although they were very busy. We enjoyed our meal and and would go back again

The swan is always reliable and yummy! The food is of a high standard and service is reliable. Somethings can be a bit pricey but worth it really! Nice place for groups to visit

We go here often reasonably priced very nice food good service my only word of caution is you don't book you might not get a table no matter how many are empty .

Monday lunch thinking the place might be quiet how wrong I was but no wonder the food and the service was excellent absolutely brilliant

Arrived without booking and were seated quickly, ordered meal which arrived quickly and was very tasty, however this was the extent of the service for the night, the lady who came to the table to clear up took away half of the finished plates, then never returned for the rest, never offered us any more drinks, nor were we offered a desert menu, there were three members of staff and about 10 customers left at this stage, I went to the bar and asked for desert menus which were brought to us, the four of us decided on banoffee pie only to be told that this was not available, very very disappointed with the service.

As a taxi driver dropped off here many times heard many good reviews however had to be said I now see why people like it

Went for lunch on Sunday, unfortunately it was disappointing. I had lasagne that was burnt and not very nice my partner had lamb, vegetables and mint sauce were good lamb and Yorkshire pudding disappointing not even a bit of mash potato with it.

This is a favourite Dumfries eating establishment where you just know that you will get a consistently high quality of good food. I like the menus variety which is very reasonably price with a good variety. I can thoroughly recommend the Swan at the Kingholm Quay.

An excellent Friday night dinner at The Swan. Good selections on the specials and extensive main menu choices. Some of us ordered off the specials and some off the main menu. Quite a wide selection of different meals which all arrived at the same time . Food was excellent and service was outstanding. I’ve visited The Swan before - atmosphere really relaxed with couples, families and friends enjoying food together . If you’re in the area The Swan is definitely a place to go for great food and service . Enjoy!

Met my daughter, husband and first grand child with my girlfriend for lunch today. A good few years since my last visit and have to say much improved, table and high chair quickly with no fuss, all of the staff were friendly and helpful. Drinks order taken and produced whilst we studied the menu, My girlfriend is Coeliac and was delighted with their extensive menu just for her! Everybody else take notice - it really is not difficult to do if you care. Food - steak pie, scampi, hot baguettes and sandwiches were good lunch time pub food, desserts for 2 were demolished, good coffee and tea finished it off.

Went for lunch here with a friend, not a particularly friendly welcome. The place was freezing cold, Alot of dinners also sat with coats on.

A confusion on our part meant that we arrived an hour earlier than expected. Within a few short minutes we were seated and out orders taken. The food was perfectly cooked, quickly served and plates cleared. With generous and tasty portions served by cheerful, efficient staff the evening was all to quickly over. Definitely on my go again list.

We came here after a lovely walk along the river and initially only popped in for a quick pint. The fire was on so we decided to stay and have a quick bite to eat and chose the sharing platter. Went tonight for the Christmas menu which I felt was reasonably priced considering it was Christmas Eve. 2 courses were £16.95. I had booked a table but the booking had not been entered in their diary. However there was a table for us.

Service was excellent considering the place was full of Christmas diners. The three courses we had were very good. We didn't feel rushed and had plenty of time to make our choices. We'll be back.... before next Christmas.

We went out for a Birthday meal with my wife and a friend who also has a Birthday within a couple of days, The service was very good, friendly & courteous, We had a fantastic meal with starters, mains & desserts, mouthwatering food you can't beat and the Ladies had wine + a bottle, we had the beer which was so velvety I could have stayed all evening. :)

Dined here with family last week and my goodness standards are slipping, I fully understand this is a busy time of the year but things were in no way upto previous standards, from the poor quality food, half the dishes appeared to be reheated in the micro, other’s average at best, the staffs lack of interest, at our meal no one asked if everything was okay, we waited a considerable amount of time after with no one clearing our table or offering desserts or teas and coffee we ended up paying the bill and leaving and still no one attended the table, given the staff where standing chatting etc really was no excuse in my opinion.

Another nice meal here again. I had streak pie and chips and mixed veg. Hubby had haddock and chips. I really enjoyed my meal although hubby thought his batter was a bit over done. But still tasted nice.

We used The Swan to hold a celebration Wake following our dear Mother's funeral recently. The buffet was all freshly made and included Mum's favorite cakes, sandwiches and hot soup. The setting was peaceful on the beautiful river estuary. We were also able to run a short video to let her friends enjoy some past memories of Mums life. Thank you Angie and all your staff for handling a sad day with dignity and empathy x

We been here several times between 2016 & 2018 while on holiday. Staff were friendly & efficient, nice atmosphere and a lovely outdoor area for warmer days. Good choice of food which is well cooked and very tasty.

Really great family friendly restaurant with a large range of pub and classic food, great service, great staff. Highly highly recommend.
