Sunbirds Deli in Brighton and Hove

Always delicious, the best food in town served by lovely people who know how to make a lovely lunch time meal. I recommend this place to everyone

I'm not an avid reviewer, so to feel the need to write up feedback on this wonderful cafe is a very telling sign on just how special this place is. I came here with my partner for a quick lunch. We each ordered a meze plate, served by a very friendly and smiling gentleman, and was told to wait upstairs for it to be brought up to us. The service was speedy, the waitress offered us water, to which she brought over a big glass bottle full. This food we were told is all made fresh daily, and you can tell. Every single part of this meal was delicious and left us feeling like we'd had a health kick, which was a lovely way to end a very wholesome weekend. We will most certainly be back, to try more of what they have to offer, and I will be throwing out recommendations left right and centre. Thank you Sunbirds. ❤️

Always delicious, lovely tasty wraps with delicious chicken and lovely salads. They also have a great selection of chilled drinks. They are not open that often but when they are, it’s worth going

Highly recommend. Tasty food and friendly service. Great choice of veggie and vegan dishes too. Had the veggie mezze, coffee and fresh fruit juice of the day. Was impressed with the selection of food and drinks and the cakes looked lovely but I'll have to save those for another time.

Had the veggie meze and my boyfriend had the chicken wrap - we loved them! I’m gluten free and they gave such a great selection, loved it all!

There's a good reason this deli cafe consistently gets 5 stars: I've been eating here for years and the food is always freshly made, healthy, varied and delicious. Staff are welcoming and efficient, and eating in the food is piping hot, while their wonderful takeaway mezes are our Friday staple meal, and we can't resist their baklava. Dogs are also welcomed, and mine enjoys the smells and the snacks. The cafe is unpretentious and no-one hurries you out, so I've often met up with friends. Sunbirds is so good that I've nominated them for this year's BBC Food and Farming Awards in the Best Streetfood, Takeaway and Small Eateries category - everyone who loves them should do the same, as it doesn't take long!

Sunbirds truly are the kings and queens of mezze and wraps!! I'm a local and I eat here at least twice a month. It is consistently delicious with great options and lovely staff. If you come to Brighton you have to eat here!! (Also their dessert options are INCREDIBLE!!)

Good food and always lovely people serving, the Meze at £8 eat in feeds two people by the way - the veggie and vegan options very good.

Sunbirds is one of my favourite cafes in Brighton. The range of food, from snacks to meals is very good. The location is good. The decor is cheerful. The staff are always friendly and remembered me after the pandemic break. Highly recommended!

The food here is quite simply delicious. It is so full of colour and flavour and very good value for money. My vegetarian meze platter today was out of this world! If you like mediterranean, arabic style food it’s a great choice There are plenty of plant based dishes. They do do meat options too. They cater really well for vegans, vegetarians and gluten free people with no compromise on choice and taste. Such lovely people who run it too. It’s my favourite place to eat in the world!

Wow! What a find! We had the most delicious vegan mezze for lunch. All the food is so fresh and incredibly tasty! Excellent service and superb value for money. What I love is that this place is not pretentious, they just offer incredible food 😊

This is truly one of Brighton’s hidden gems. Everything is made from fresh and the juices.... OMG Try everything you won’t be disappointed... probably become obsessed like me.

This is a great place for grabbing a quick lunch. My favourite is their wraps and baclava. They have more seating upstairs if downstairs is busy.

Been a few times coffee to lunch. Always friendly and a bit quirky. Food is really good with a good change of menu. Sitting out the front is great for the sun,if it’s out, but loads of traffic. Good priced food and drinks well worth visiting

Stopped for excellent lunch with my son. Had mezza with meatballs. Looked and tasted great. Service was super friendly. Rounded off with homemade baklava & Turkish coffee. Totally recommend it.

The food here is absolutely to die for. It's all amazingly fresh. My omnivorous husband and son love the chicken wraps and as a vegetarian, I love all the amazing salads on the meze plates. We all adore the baclava. The coffee is great and the fresh fruit juice mixes are yummy. I'm salivating as I type. And to top it all off, it's very reasonably priced and the staff are lovely.

the meze is a great lunch treat, there are a choice of healthy smoothies and snacks/pastries the food can be vegan and is delicious! a hidden gem on a horrible road

Popped in for takeaway after being recommended this place a while ago. Cannot wait to return because everything i ate - in the veggie mezze plate - was so tasty. Included a selection of veggies as well as falafel, spinach tortilla, filo pastry and selection of sauces.

Set in the not so charming London Road, this small cafe/deli serves wonderful food without fuss or wait. The staff are warm and helpful. The cafe is small but has a couple of tables outside and a room with extra seating upstairs. The food is traditional and they offer good combos of various salads and yummy bits. Great value for money. Really worth a visit if you are in the area.

This cosy family-run deli has some of the best food experiences I have ever tried in Brighton. I like to grab lunch there at the weekend if I could or stop for a quick coffee with cardamom.

Stumbled across this deli and someone sitting outside said try the Mezze, so we did, I chose chicken, my partner meatballs plus the most amazing flavours in the mixed mezze, cost £5.99 each, what a find!

Wow amazing food & lovely staff, fantastic food very cheap it's a must to visit, homemade Turkish delight & a lovely selection of home made cakes all shapes & sizes, we will be back.

Popped by for takeaway lunch, and had the halloumi & veg wrap, and the cocoa and mixed nuts baklava. Absolutely brilliant, great value (came to £6 in total) flawless food. You're a credit to London Road!

Amazing food, breakfast and Turkish coffee! They serve Turkish coffee in a traditional way like the Ottomans used to have, I love that look so much! Staff always friendly and welcoming. If you are around London Road, this place worth to visit.

We stopped here by accident, drawn by the pistachio baclava and the Greek coffee... All amazing the baclava was crunchy and drizzled with syrup and lashings of crushed pistachio. Heaven.

Yes London rd is full of randoms but Sunbirds could charge double if it was in Ship St. Their spiced coffee served in the little brass set with Turkish delight is amazing.

We love supporting local independent businesses that can offer a valid alternative to the usual big chains and Brighton is the perfect place for this.

Loved this little hide out with a few benches to sit on. Tasty mezze and generous sized wrap and delicious lentil soup. Excellent value for money and lovely friendly service. Good veggie and vegan options.Very Brighton.

Friendly staff, lovely atmosphere - if you don’t get yourself the mezze you’re missing out! My only piece of advice to make the experience truely amazing is adding Turkish bread and working on a new chilli sauce recipe

The Mezze platter is a phenomenal meal, filled with fresh ingredients and so many fantastic rich flavours. Definitely the most nutritious meal you can get in Brighton, and thats a hard bargain given that it is only £5.

I had a delicious veggie mezze as a late lunch treat after a Saturday morning clinic . It was colourful , tasty and nutritious, served by cheerful staff . Excellent value for money .

Tasty and. Homemade savouries and sweets. Cafe expanded next door so a bit bigger and nicer. Authentic and simple. Not at all expensive.

We popped in here for lunch and ordered the vegan mezze box, which came with a whole selection of warm foods, veggies, falafel, seeds, potatoes, salad, sauces and humus. They also had some very sweet and sticky backlavas which were amazing! It's a very small place but still offers seating areas and the staff were very friendly.

Sunbirds is a delightful family run business serving amazing Mediterranean food. The portions are good and the prices very reasonable. There is a limited amount of seating upstairs and down with cozy, friendly Brighton atmosphere. Takeout always an option. I eat lunch from here regularly. Nom!

Great food, nice atmosphere - worth going out of your way to eat at. The cuisine is middle eastern and everything is prepared freshly which means it may be a little slower than McDonalds but orders of magnitude better.

We ate lunch there today (August). Absolutely delicious mezes; I had a vegetarian one, and my friend had a chicken one. Both had multiple tasters of various salads, falafels and samosas, with dips, all very fresh with lovely herbs and pulses, and super tasty! And a big plateful in total, completely filled me up!

A friend and I ate Lunch here, because the cafe we were going to eat at was closed. I searched Trip Adviser and my friend asked her brother, who is local. Trip adver, suggested this place, as did her brother. It is reasonably priced and the food was delicious. We each had a green machine smoothie and I had the aubergine veggie specia and my friend had the lamb special. I wouldn’t hesitate to eat her again, it was lovely.

One of my fave spots and I have been coming here weekly for a while now! Have noticed that lately you’ve stopped doing the vegan specials (where’s the aubergine and veggie bake??) and that the vegan mezze doesn’t vary like it used to. Still great but good to change it up a bit for regular visiting vegans. Would still recommend highly, however :)

Just outside the open market, we found this delightful restaurant. We had the vegetarian mezze with stuffed aubergine. The meals are prepared fresh and proved delicious and very filling. There are homemade pastries plus vegan cake and pudding. Will visit again.

We visited Sunbirds Deli on a Tuesday lunchtime - two vegetarians and a meat eater. Between us we shared the veggie meze and vegan meze - absolutely incredibly priced and the flavours were by far the best we had experienced in Brighton.

The mazes are amazing. Beautiful food and an enjoyable casual atmosphere. We had 3 veggie mazes and 3 drinks for $26......terrific value. Service is very friendly and helpful. They do a great job of serving. What a great gem to have for Brighten.

When I moved to the London road area of Brighton this place quickly became my favourite and I've taken most of my friends here at some point or another. I always have the Veggie Meze, which is always filling and delicious. I also love the cakes and baklava they have. I first had my all time favourite type of cake here, Tunisian cake, an orange cake with syrup soaked on the top! This would all be washed down with their cardamom tea...Yum!

This was a change for my husband and myself as we don't normally eat meze for lunch but we had read such good reviews we thought we would try it. Yes the reviews are correct Lovely food , plenty of it , reasonable price lovely fresh fruit drinks great staff and a clean toilet. What more can anyone want.

The mezze lunch box is my favourite thing to eat and it changes often and always great! The desserts and coffee are great as well, recommend the cheese cake and the baklava. Always greeted with warm smiles and cheerful service!

If I'm working in Brighton this is my go to place. The spicy chicken wraps are to die for and the selection of mezes are a delight. I would also recommend the juices. The other thing I love is you get to see your food being prepared. The staff are always helpful and the smiley blonde girl always remembers how I like my order (I do there a lot) A*********

Totally love Sunbirds. When I worked locally they were my go-to lunch place, and I miss not being able to pop in on a regular basis. I'm not a vegetarian but their vegetarian option lunchbox is fantastic! Lovely couple, very friendly and great food. It was great to pop in again after a few months and the food was still as good!

Highly recommend this cafe, it's only 5 minutes away from the station and the vegan Mezze and Baclava are to die for. Super cheap also! Will definitely visit again.

This places offers an outstanding vegan mezze. It's like a party of flavour in your mouth. I'm not even sure what some of it is. Salads of joy. I have an addiction to the pear and cacao cake which is vegan, sugar and gluten free.

Having past the front of this deli a number of times a friend recommended. Always looked tiny but there is upstairs seating 0😁. Food delicious and great selection all in all nothing to falt!. If you're near the open market pop in and be surprised!

This deli was my happy place while living at Abacus House (right next to the deli on Baker Street). I love everything being sold by them, and the staff is exceptionally kind and nice.

Often come in to get the vegetarian meze for lunch. They are always friendly in there and the food is so good! Highly recommend.

We were shopping in the market nearby, and sunbirds deli was very convenient (with a queue which was served very quickly). Food was as before, interesting especially if you are into lots of small dishes from eastern mediterranean (lebanese/turkish/greek). We had one special for the day (stuffed aubergine - slightly underspiced) and vegetarian mezze (perfect). We also took away a slice of mango cake, which we was absolutely delicious. Thoroughly recommended.

Nice juices! We had the orange with ginger, carrot and cucumber and the lemon, ginger and other ingredients. Also lovely fresh chicken and vegetarian mezze with beans, spinach tart, greek yoghurt, ted cabbage etc. Very pretty and each a different taste. We would recommend this little place for lunch! Price of the mezze was also good.

I had a surprisingly delicious lunch in here. I loved the Chicken Mezze (other veggie/vegan options available) so many different things on that all tasted amazing! It’s a very ‘Brighton’ place, a little bit hippy but clean and nice staff. I can’t wait to go back again.,

This place is a great little find combining a deli and cafe serving the most amazing mezze platters, fabulous soups and salads, smoothies, baklava and more. Staff are friendly and unflustered by the busyness of a very popular lunchtime service. Bring your vegetarian friends here when they visit, it's close to the Open Market for a wander around afterwards and a short walk from Brighton train station.

This place offers great, fresh and tasty food which is reasonably priced The owner is very hard working although his assistants are fairly slow. Definitely worth a try if in the area

Came a week ago for a late lunch after a long sunny run. The aubergine boats came with lots of lovely accompaniments and some amazing rice!

This cafe is delightful. Usually when places say they have a gluten free menu it means one or two items, here virtually the entire menu is gluten free. I can’t wait to come back and try something else. Another thing is it is very reasonable

I was surprised to see Sunbirds at the top of the restaurants and cafes in Brighton, thinking that some fancy pants place would be there instead. Then, I thought about it, recounted my 30+ visits, the ace food prepared with love, the no bother if you have dietary requirements and especially the always pleasant service. There really is no better place. I live in North Laine which is awash with great cafes but regularly I will take the much longer work to Sunbirds, which never disappoints.
