Just had a takeaway from Sun and Sand and have to say in all the lockdown time this was just the most delicious mealWas hot and well packaged and we so enjoyed everything Moist tandoori Chicken, hot spicy Jalfrezi chicken, methi corn etc All excellent Can’t wait to visit after lockdown Keep up the good work

I used to eat here a lot pre-COVID. All I can say is that the food is amazing and I'm so glad that you were able to open again after being closed for quite a while!

Very poor service and the food was of average quality. Portions were on the smal side. Took a long time for orders to arrive. Service charge of 12% is over the top. Spent over £330 including poor service charge.

Ordered the Chilli Panner for starter which was good but I’ve had better. I then had the mix grill as a main which was phenomenal. A very big portion with a mixture of lamb and chicken perfectly spiced. The best Indian mix grill I’ve ever had! Also had the methi corn which was nice but a tad on the dry side alongside garlic naan. Good value for money, would definitely come here again.

Had dinner with some colleagues last night, very good service and food. Highly recommended. One thing that was a little odd was that we were asked if we could be finished by 20:00 and yet when that time came and went nothing was said.... Very enjoyable and would return when in the area.

Utterly AWFUL food. Do not come here. Sent dish back twice and assistant manager sent back overcooked, tough chicken dish. When we complained, he said we were at fault for not complaining straight away with the first bite. Horrible attitude, ugly behaviour, and a nasty experience in North London. Please don't bother!

Visited this place in Finchley Central and it was good dining experience, Food was excellent and service was top notch. If you are looking for Indian cuisine in Finchley this place is highly recommended. They have good veg options.

From the outside I thought it looked like a hair salon; the name appeared to be a travel agency.....How wrong I was.A cool and contemporary setting was the home to the best Indian restaurant I have visited in ages. The decor is really pleasant and the service polite and efficient. And the food is EXQUISITE.To die for: Tandoori Mushrooms, Paneer Tikka Masala, Veg Quorn Keema, Daal Makhani ....and I was only eating vegetarian. My friend had Tawa Lamb which was delicious. Each dish tasty beyond description, large and fresh. I would have eaten the whole menu if I had had space.Available as a takeaway or delivery.This place rocks.

This restaurant was recommended by discerning Indian friends, We have been there three times now and each time the standard has been the same. The food is fresh and excellent, The service is first class. More importantly, this Indian restaurant doesn't have the usually dull atmosphere you find in most Indian restaurants and does not have that stale and musty smell of old cooking. It looks more like a trendy wine bar.

This place had a makeover fairly recently, and is now bright and trendy. It was mainly geared at the local Indian market, but is popular with all lovers of Indian food. The menu is comprehensive, and we even found some more unusual dishes.

Stopped off here on way to Anthony Joshua fight at Wembley- food and service very good - but draft lager was a bit flat

Stick to veg dishes. They dont know how to do any of the other Indian dishes. Particularly meat dishes. Not worth another visit in my opinion.

Lucky to have this as my local. The best place for lamb chops, mogo chips and a few pints. And don’t miss out the Hyderabadi fish.

Called in here for a quick meal on a warm Sunday evening. All good, service and food, but not quite sure what the aim is of this place, is it a club, where one can enjoy a couple of pints and watch sport or an up market restaurant?

Came here for dinner on a Friday night and good thing we booked in advance as it was packed. The bhindi bhaji was the best I've had in a restaurant though the garlic mogo was pretty average.

He visitado este lugar por casualidad el sábado por la tarde (10 de febrero) porque me di cuenta de que tenía el fútbol en la TV. Me apareció en un medio rápido, como lo hace! Me senté para ver el fútbol y hojear el menú y yo era tan bueno y tan buena relación calidad-precio que reservé una mesa y entonces mi amiga esa misma tarde. Cuando volvimos al lugar estaba a tope, y rápidamente nos llevaron a nuestra mesa. Una vez ordenados, la comida llegó rápidamente y era fresco y muy sabroso. Comimos cordero que era tan tierno. En general, la comida era fantástica, el servicio estupendo y el precio trabajo del personal era insuperable. Yo se hacer un viaje de vuelta! ! ! ! ! !

Great night celebrating Dad's 80 th birthday with the family at Sun & Sands Lounge. Dad is Not one for fuss & frills, so it was difficult trying to find somewhere local where everyone in the family , teenagers & adults , meat eaters & vegetarians, would enjoy. My sequin leggings might have been a tad too much It has lovely, friendly staff & a nice atmosphere. Delicious starters of chilli paneer, lamb kebabs, potato bhaji's, spicy lamb chops, chicken tikka & spicy mushrooms. We ordered so much it was difficult to make space for the mains! But We did! Finished off lamb biriyani, chicken jalfrezi, lamb rogan josh & the vegetarians had chick peas, tadka daal , more chilli paneer with naan & rice. Starters were better then the mains.Dad is very happy & wants to come again. Reasonably priced & not a shock at the end of the evening, except for my brothers when Mum insisted that they pay as girls don't pay . I just love old fashioned values. Lol

This local Indian bar and restaurant serves reasonable food in a modern environment. The portions are a good size and taste pretty good. It’s definitely not fine dining and you can find much better. Service is efficient and helpful in adjusting the amount of chilli. Good value with main courses around £8 each.

You arrive to an absolutely empty restaurant, get placed in a corner under the huge TV and told repeatedly by several members of staff that you'll have to eat REALLY fast as they'll need the table. These people really know how to make you feel special! The food arrives and comprises tiny little morsels of protein bobbing in vast seas of bland sauce. Staff hover over you, ready to grab plates away as you finish, lest you might feel tempted to relax or linger over your meal, as if this was a restaurant. You head out into the fresh air and resolve to stick with 'Cochin' down the road. The vast posse of black-clothed staff still hover at the bar chatting, awaiting the hoards....

I was travelling through the area and checked this place out for food...reviews seamed good...it was busy on a Monday night and the place was modern and staff were friendly. I ordered a methi chicken with tandoori rotli ... it was pleasant but me personally was a standard curry...nothing really special more like methi with chicken!

We went here with friends last night, really good food and relaxed atmosphere.We had a range of starters and then the brilliant chilli tiger prawns. Wow they pack a punch!A gem with reasonable places so do check out. We will definitely be going back.

Really good Indian restaurant, the best in Finchley/Barnet in my opinion. Lovely mixed grill, the lamb chops in particular are a stand out.A wide selection of curries available and a good choice of alcoholic beverage to accompany your choice. I think a Magners cider goes down particularly well with a hot curry!

My wife and I love this place. We have tried every Indian restaurant in the area and surrounding area. The food is always on point, service is great, atmosphere is decent and we will continue to go back again and again. Superb.

As most of the clientel were Asians we thought this was a good sign and we were not mistaken. Modren interior, relaxed and informal atmosphere, great service, amazing food and great choice of both vegetarian and non-vegetarial dishes. Nice spicy food (along with non-spicy too). Mango lassi is a must. We are definitely coming back.

Had a meal a week ago with guests. There was plenty of seating. Tables were roomy. We ordered many veg and non-veg dished. Regret food was bland.

So glad we went back to Sun and Sands - haven't been for a while but great atmosphere although a little noisy but that's to be expected when you have a football match being shown on multiple screens! Food was excellent as was the service. The mushroom starter was an unexpected hit and we shared a great number of dishes all of which tasted fresh and greatly impressed those of our party who hadn't been before - already planning our next visit.

This was a nice restaurant/bar with lovely food! It also had the added perk of showing sport on the tv! The only downside was they didn't give you any mango chutney with your poppadoms but otherwise great food!

Have been to Sun and Sand few times now. The standard of food and service is consistent and excellent. Curry dishes are nice flavored and on the mild side. Could not fault the quality and service. Staff are pleasant and obliging. Will keep visiting this venue in the future. Booking is recommended on weekends.

We went here with friends on their recommendation and loved it.My first impression was that it was full of Indian people, which is a great sign.Despite what others have said on here, I thought the choice was vast. Lots of veggie options for my mates wife too. Starters are possibly the best part of the meal options. We had lamb chops, chicken wings, tofu and other vegetables that were gorgeous.Main courses were good too. My only complaints were that desserts don't exist apart from kulfi and our waiter, whilst polite, let the place down somewhat. Maybe he was new, but he seemed rather disorganised and a little cack-handed at times.I will go back though, as the food was delicious.

Been a few times as my husband loves the mixed grill starter - great to shareThe only meal I have really liked is the karahi lamb but when not in the mood for lamb I struggle to choose something elseI tried Karahi chicken once but I didn't find it quite as tastyAlso tried chicken tikka jalfrezi but way too spicy.It is good quality food but i will only go back when I know I'm in the mood for the karahi lamb.

Went here with 2 friends following on from a couple of recommendations but was very disappointed. Firstly I found the menu to be relatively limited in comparison to most Indian restaurants and the heat rating bore no resemblance to the heat of the food as my friends also confirmed. We also had some popadoms which came with a chilli sauce, one other which I'm not sure what it was and no mango chutney but they did bring some once they checked if they had some.We had the mixed grill and onion Bhaji for starters which were ok, and I then had the lamb biriyani which for the first time came with a vegetable sauce only after I requested it instead of a vegetable curry and this was too hot for a meal with a zero out of 3 heat rating. I also had a peshwari naan which apart from the outside was more like a popadom with minimal filling.I would not recommend this as a place to go having been to far better and again my friends confirmed my thoughts.The meal was around £25 each with soft drinks.

Having heard of Sun and Sand some Years ago, It has been on my Radar to go to for a long time. Living in South London and this being in North London, it has not been a place for me to make a special visit to for any reason. My Partner suggested this place given the options were Sun and Sand, Blue Ginger and Regency. The Latter have been frequented many times and we felt like a change.I am happy we chose to go to Sun and Sand, we were in Finchley North Celebrating a Birthday at Bohemia Brew Pub and felt hungry, so the both of us and a Work colleague ventured here.We arrived at 6.30PM, were asked if we had a Reservation (No), were showed to a nice table near the Bar, and promptly given a Food and Drink Menu each to choose from. We ordered Drinks which came reasonably quick, and ordered Starters. I asked if Chilli Paneer and Chill Mushrooms were similar, which the Manager advised Yes they are, and suggested go for the Tandoori Mushrooms instead. We ordered Chilli Paneer (Reasonable Portion), Tandoori Mushrooms (6 Good Sized Mushrooms), Crispy Fried Wings (5 Pieces) and Lamb Chops (5 Pieces).Chilli Paneer was Good / Standard Taste, I noticed at least 3 tables around me ordered the same, some inconsistency seen in portion size though. Tandoori Mushrooms were out of this World, very tasty Tandoori Marinade. Crispy Fried Wings were not great, tasted like Chicken Shop Hot Wings that have been deep fried, Lamb Chops - Not bad, though thin and fatty.We did not go for a Main course, though what we did is order a further portion of the Tandoori Mushrooms and gave the Tandoori Chicken Wings a go. The Wings were ok, better than the Crispy fried ones, though a little greasy - could have been in the tandoor a little longer.All in All Food was definitely fresh.I wanted to charge my Phone and the Manager said Yes it is fine to and I used a Plug Point under our Seating Booth. For a Sunday evening it was reasonably busy, very well staffed, and you can see a good turnout. Older Indian Families, a Large Birthday Celebration, Bar Regulars, Sports Watchers, Non Indians and Take Away customers - All these categories were amongst us and it seemed to be working well. Good Refurbishment and Clean Dining Room.Staff were friendly and approachable. A little eager, came to collect plates several times prior to us finishing our food and asking if we have "finished", assuming they have been trained to do this, get rid of the tables as quick as possible to turn them around quicker.I will definitely be coming back here to try some other dishes and importantly returning for the Tandoori Mushrooms - Well done and keep up the good work. My Irish work colleague was also very impressed and will be returning.A few Suggestions:Wings - make portions to 6 Pieces rather than 5 - for Regency Prices, you are providing less. Better Meatier Lamb Chops. Consistent Chilli Paneer Portions with More Onions in it.I look forward to coming back.

I love this place and Im actually reluctant to share this treasured find because its hard enough to get a table here already! This place is a Lounge/bar and the menu is full of great little dishes that you can easily get carried away ordering.. If you go and you like spicy food try the Chefs special mushroom from the starters section and the chilli chicken wings and the mogo and the chilli prawns I could go on and on.. you cant go wrong here in my opinion. Even if your vegatarian you will love this place.The atmosphere is laid back, dress is casual and the lighting is bright.The service is good, its clean, the loos are clean (always a good signThe only thing they dont cater for is toddlers! No high chairs but you can take your own!

The best curry in North London. We work just down the road, and frequent the Sun and Sand for post football curry and beer. The chili wings are heavenly and they don't do a bad Jalfrezi. Would recommend, 8/10

I have been to Sun and Sand many times in large and small groups with family and friends and have only ever had a brilliant experience. The food is fantastic, the starters especially are of a very high quality. The menu is diverse and covers vegetarian and those not so used to Indian cuisine and the chefs are always happy to adjust the dish to preference. The service has always been polite and friendly and really adds to the evening. They also show the football on the big screens and have a good selection of draft larger, to be honest I want to move in.

Food is amazing. The surronding is lovely and staff are very helpful and always polite. We Our guests went there 1st time and they really enjoyed the food. We are all vegeterians and absolutely enjoyed the delicious food.

I had arranged to meet friends for a meal and they had been here previously. When I arrived I was impressed by the open and airy feel. I also liked the large tv screens on the wall. The restaurant was very busy and quite noisy due to a couple of parties situated either side of our table but that didn't spoil our enjoyment. The service was friendly and our waitress was very attentive. The food was superb, probably the best I have had. We chose a number of items from the menu and I could not fault one of them. The bill was also a pleasant surprise and came to £26 per head. This was good value considering the amount of food we ordered and also included drinks. Would I come back? Yes! Maybe not for a romantic night out with my wife as it was not particularly quiet or intimate, but it was a great place for a party of get together with friends, Great food, good service and I would definitely recommend.

I went here for the first time on a Friday evening with friends who had a toddler. They don't have high chairs but if you get a booth style table it's manageable. .probably not with younger kids though. The atmosphere was nice - not too loud but then there weren't any major sports matches on. We had starters only - mixed grill - very tasty lamb chops and chicken tikka. The sheek kebabs were very uniform which makes me wonder if they were handmade or not but tasted ok. The tandoori chicken wings weren't as chilli hot as expected (3 flames as heat indicator on menu) - I would have like the skin crispier. Chili baby corn was delicious as was the chilli paneer. Service was attentive and friendly. Parking outside is free after 6.30pm. I'd definitely eat here again.

I've been going to this place several times, and its the best Indian food in North London so far. Its great for vegetarians too - mainly the chilli paneer (but its far too spicy for me). They are very busy and usually full on Fridays and Saturdays so I would book a table. Its averagely priced, they have a good variety and good selection of beers and drinks. Its usually quite loud due to football or any kind of sports playing on TV, and quite crowded at times. But you have to try their food!

This place is very popular and so must be pretty good. Mainly frequented by 30s to 50s and about half of Asian origin.The food is very tasty and potions about average size. Slightly hot in general so be aware of that for those who like bland food. Not a complaints but just a statement.Fairly smart place and the customers are fairly smart too.The service is very quick and fairly friendly.

Authentic Indian food and great services located in the heart of Finchley. Modern decor and they had live sports. Will definitely go again

Been here numerous times and the food is not fresh.The chicken really smelt off on more than a few occasions of visitingand the amount of oil and ghee used is excessive. The dishes seem to all have the same base sauce. The waitresses are good but they really struggle when busy. Not planning to ever visit again, and the prices seem to have gone up, quality down.The refurbishment is nice but that's about all.Real shame as I was a regular there.

A fun, vibrant place to dine with friends and family. Each dish is rich and flavoursome and tantalises the senses. They can make the dishes to any heat level if specified, but we love their Indian standard. Amazing food every single time.

A quiet dinner for two at Sun and Sand Indian restaurant was ruined because the manager failed to manage his restaurant.The food was acceptable, but staff seemed oblivious to us never returning to our table to check on us. No doubt they were distracted by the extremely animated and raucous behaviour of a table of eight diners who ruined what could have been a perfectly good night out. I'm all for people enjoying themselves but this is a small restaurant and the manager chose to abandon the restaurant to these diners and their shenanigans leaving us to our own devices. Shame.

I went with a friend one Sunday night. A table of seven near us were celebrating a birthday and felt that it gave them carte blanche to ruin everyone else's evening - it certainly ruined ours!Yes there are always loud people like that but the staff did not try to handle the situation. Even when we complained they did nothing and gave no apology. They didn't offer a discount and when I mentioned it they took off just £3.00.Bottom line is that the owner/manager did nothing to ensure that all their customers were happy and having a good evening. Big thumbs down to this restaurant and I will never be seen in there again!Food was okay.

We have been there many times now, in big groups for family celebrations or in couple or for take away. The food has always been really good. Like anywhere, the food is better if you have it there. They do my favourite chilli mushrooms, black dahl and savoury lassi! The staff is friendly and prompt.

We went there this week for a meal. The restaurant was not busy and we asked for a table for two. The waitress gave us a very cramped table. When we asked for a different table ( more comfortable ) was told no. So we pointed out empty tables around the reasturant. Only for a guy sitting at the bar who worked there to look in our direction and shake his head. So we left we are quite glad as after I checked the scores on the doors and the have a 1 STAR RATING.Never going in there again

Came across this restaurant/bar - modern and inviting. Pleasant attentive staff. Good selection of drinks and food, not expensive. Despite arriving only 15 mins before kitchen closed, we were served quickly and the food looked good and was delicious - slight warning as is quite spicy. I have no issues. Definitely will return.

Very friendly staff and owner followed by very quick delivery of drinks and menus although the place was very busy.We were lead by our friends over choices as they are regulars. The starters were amazing and the fried baby corn in chilli and garlic was to die for. The choices are all on the spicy side but that suits me, however there are mild options available if desired. The rice portions are large so really only need one between two people.The only slight criticism would be that the menu was slightly confusing. I ordered chilli chicken as a main or so I thought but it was a starter. That said it was plenty big enough and very tasty.Planning our next visit already.

My first visit after my wife had previously been.Good service, friendly European waiting staff who seem to understand the Indian menu.I found the starters to be more tasty than the mains. That’s not to say the mains were bad in any way. The mains were nice and a good amount on the plate. Be aware though, the main are spicy/chilli. Makes sure you order mild/medium. A plate of rice is enough for 2 people and the naan bread is light, fluffy and not heavy.Very clean plates and cutlery and the drinking glasses are all hand wiped. I am very impressedA little bit pricey compared to their rivals, but worth a visit

Want an Indian where Indian people actually eat then try it out. I would recommend speaking to the waiter if you'd like the spices turned down to suit your palate. Always great tasting food, meat is of a better quality than the usual Indian restaurant. Starters are fantastic. Service is good. They serve Tusker beer which my husband loves. Love it!

I have a book table for my family function party for 8 peoples they grand welcomes nice waiters service neat & clean premises nice atmosphere delicious "Methi gota" "Jrrra chicken" "Hydrabadi fish "and "Garlic mogo" as a main course fantastic veg,lamb and chicken Birayani ,peshavari nan so tasty & fresh enjoy as eat in India un forgot able moments ......love this place

Love this place!I have been dining here for years through various owners and the food just gets better and better! The new refurbishment gives it a fresh feel, perfect for the World Cup matches! It's around the corner from Finchley Central Station so I can even have a few beers if I don't want to drive.And open until late for those late munchies! See you there! :-D

Do these people just cut up about 1000 kg of chillies and add it to everything? That's all we tasted, will never visit again whether it's chicken or daal it had no flavour and just tastes of very hot spicy chilli...not enjoyable unless you love chilli!

I absolutely love his restaurant, the food is amazing, the staff are fantastic (especially John) and it has a wonderful atmosphere. I would recommend this place to anyone....and the toilets are very clean which in my eyes is a big bonus!!!

We went here on a Friday evening. The staff didn't care to mak eye contact. We seated ourselves and after five minutes the waiter came to hurriedly take our order but we hadn't been given a menu. Then he pre empted our order by telling us were have to wait at least 45 minutes for food. We weren't really impressed by this so we chose to leave. The waiter could have handled it differently and maybe offered to bring some snacks while we waited for our meal or actually brought us a menu. I liked this place a few years back it seems to have got a new look on the inside but like so many restaurants has got lamentable service. Better to go to sea rock club in north Finchley they are much friendlier or even safari bar in n finchley.

i liked this place. We ordered some fish which was very fresh, the naan was fantastic, not too dough-ey - very light. We then ordered other vegetables including one paneer dish (tasted like you get in India!), some mushrooms which were good and some deep-fried dish (can't remember what exactly) that wasn't at all oily. The service was friendly and they ask you how hot you like your food which is a bonus. Be warned though, even 'medium hot' will be much hotter than most Balti restaurants. Generally, i liked the menu as it didn't have the usual Korma/Dansaak/Biryani that you find everwhere else. It came to around £20 each which i thought was a little pricey but then again, you get what you pay for. The lounge itself was simple enough, nothing to elaborate, food delivered quickly. i'd go back

My whole family live this restaurant so much. Lovely people, excellent authentic Indian food, usually quite spicy. It has more of a bar atmosphere, you can go in for beers and a small bite, or a proper meal. Best Indian in Finchley Central

I have visited Sun And Sand on a few occasions in the past year. Food is average but ok with a pint of beer. There is plenty of choice for vegetarians here. The quantity per plate has been excessive so be careful when ordering. One dish can serve 2 or 3, depending on how hungry one is and if you order starters. Overall give it a try.

Fabulous restaurant disguised as a pub!Great selection of unusual dishes.Can be busy at peak times.

This restaurant has recently been taken over by a new owner. The food and service have improved a lot and the decor has been modernised.The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and and serves a great range of traditional Indian food which is all delicious. We use this place a lot socially and for entertaining customers.Give it a try, you wont regret it.
