Having visited Sugar and Spice for sometime I can say the meals are very nice, in particular the afternoon tea and cake is excellent value at £3.50. Plenty of choice for vegans and I am sure the food will be appreciated by vegans, vegetarians and those eating meat. All is home cooked which is appreciated.

We were a bit concerned going into this café as it did not appear to be very inspiring from the exterior, and the interior is also fairly basic and a little bit chaotic with children's toys piled up on a table. However there was a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, with helpful and polite staff. We arrived just after another group of people so service was a bit slow. The cappuccino was excellent, quite strong but not overpowering. The toasties we had, cheddar & tomato and cheddar & red onion, came with a dressed side salad and we both enjoyed them. Would certainly return and probably try the soup next time.

After researching online dog friendly cafes I decided to visit Sugar and Spice with my family and my little dog for lunch. As soon as we arrived we were greeted by friendly staff who immediately offered my dog a biscuit (after asking permission which I love) and gave her a huge fuss. I wasn’t very hungry so ordered a bagel with cream cheese. My mum had the cheese on toast and my sister had a cheese and red onion panini with a slice of lemon cake afterwards, which was delicious!! The staff constantly walk around checking their visitors are okay and fussing the dogs in the cafe. We felt very welcome and comfortable in a very relaxed environment. Also gluten free and vegetation options! I will most definitely be returning as a regular customer with my dog!!

Sugar and Spice is our absolute favourite cafe in Beverley - warm and welcoming with a great variety of wholesome homemade food, including the yummiest cakes ever! As a vegan/vegetarian family we particularly appreciate being able to eat everything, no more so than the afternoon teas which are a newcomer to the menu. This was a real treat, with light and airy pastries and mini sandwiches as savouries which were all delicious, but save room for the scones with coconut cream and jam, just gorgeous, and all topped off with the best ever meringues and mini slices of cake/brownie. This has got to be the best afternoon tea experience, and brilliant value too. A couple of days notice is needed to prepare all the goodies, but well worth the wait!

The owners were lovely people and we had a lovely coffee and tea. We decided to have a bite to eat and hubby had scrambled eggs on toast (loads of egg and gorgeous). I had a wensleydale cheese and onion marmalade bap - scrumptious. Nicely priced. The cakes then started calling to us. This is a vegetarian restaurant so I wasn't sure on how the cakes would taste. Ha Ha Ha silly me. They were absolutely lush. I had the marzipan cake and I was blown away. Hubby had lemon cake and it was perfect. There was also a biscuit and some water for the doggy. This was my 2nd of 3 vegitarian/vegan cafes visited within the Hull postcode area. Sugar & Spice is in the very picturesque town of Beverley and I'd heard it was a bit of the beaten track, NOT SO! It sits on the main town through road in a prominent position a spit away from the pedestrianised main shopping area! Very easy if approaching from the south and east of the town! Upon entering the pleasant looking building, a clean, homely and unfussy layout welcomes all. Plenty of tables and chairs are to be found within along with much easy reading material if that's your kind of thing! Owners Roy & Trish are very welcoming and ready to offer advice if needed! A daily specials board works along side the menu nicely and I plumped for the lentil soup with balsamic veg wrap and a nice side salad. Chai soya latte and a homemade peanut butter frosted cake soon followed. All I can say was everything was spot on and a riot of lovely flavours and textures! Very very enjoyable and as a result, now firmly on my radar. I hope the pair of proprietors are proud of their venture because they should be!!! Would suit any type of visitor who would like to try something they might not usually think of! A big big thumbs up guys and see you soon!

After then buying a whole cake plus a cheerful session of banter, our "weary shopper's" visit to an unknown cafe ended up being a place we are guaranteed to return to next time we visit Beverley. Recommend!

I have previously mentioned how accommodating they have been with making me hot/savoury food, when I had serious dietary restrictions, but I thought it was time to praise the real reason this little cafe is such a great find... the cake!I come here at least once a month (despite no longer living in Beverley) as (now my diet is no longer restricted) it is hands down THE BEST place to get vegan cake in the area! Not only is it totally reasonably priced, the selection of vegan cakes is great (though I can't promise most haven't sold out towards the end of the day). If you have a cup of tea (with soy milk if your vegan like me) you can enjoy it with a light spongy lemon cake or feed your fancy with a fiery ginger cake slice (great with their fruit tea). And for those who like their cake as strong as their coffee (or Scottish-born owner Roy's accent), there is a huge slice of cappuccino cake to be had, if you can accept the challenge. Fancy something different? Sugar and Spice are the proud creators (well, owner Trish is) of the famous (see pic) Beverley Bun- an apricot and orange knotted bread pastry rolled in brown sugar and cinnamon with flaked almonds (think sweet breakfast treat a kin to a Danish pastry). Also, it's worth mentioning that they have a great mini gift shop near tge counter, run by a local group of artist/crafters/ makers called Judy's Attic. The stuff goes pretty quickly as it's all just beautifully well-made stuff (see pic) and it alway has new items to rumnage through. :)

We saw this out of the car window driving into Beverley so, as I'm a vegetarian and my girlfriend is gluten free, we decided that this would be an excellent place for lunch. We were not disappointed as the food was excellent and the service was very friendly. We plumped for day's special (which was vegan) with one of their delicious cakes for after. Can't understand that only two tables were taken 1pm on a Saturday. I know it's slightly off the beaten track (2 mins walk from the centre of town) but I was expecting it to be fuller than it was. It certainly deserves to be.

Initially we went in just for a coffee but the menu looked so tempting we decided to return for lunch. Being off the beaten track somewhat the cafe was fairly quiet, but there was a nice atmosphere helped by the lovely books laid out to peruse as we waited for food to arrive. The food was so delicious...the butternut squash and apple soup was particularly tasty, and the cakes were lovely too. My other half enjoyed the stilton and walnut panini. Price was very reasonable. This is a cafe and a tearoom so by definition the menu cannot be extensive. Nonetheless, the quality of the food was exceptional. We will return here next time we are in the area.

Arrived for lunch with 3 adults and 3 children. It was quiet, and we felt the limited menu may have had something to do with it. I had the best of it - my goat's cheese and onion marmalade panini was nice. However no real kids options saw two of the boys have to plump for crumpets and a teacake. Then we had hummus and pitta bread strips for the other child - we don't really do much salt but even our 7 year old complained it was tasteless. It was, lacking the zing of lemon or any trace of flavouring at all. Our friend, local to Beverley who had wanted to try the place, had Wensleydale and chutney, and apologised for her choice of location when she tasted it and the bread was a little dry. My wife picked the only special - red pepper and sweetcorn fritters. The side salsa was nice, but the fritters lacked any taste - they failed even to carry either red pepper or sweetcorn flavour, both ingredients drowned out by the blandness of the batter. We like frequenting small, independent ventures, but this was very much disappointing. Our friend had turned to Trip Advisor before trying it and sharing her town with us on our visit - I felt therefore a review reflecting our real experience was needed.

Went in for lunch today and had a wonderful meal. My omnivore partner thought his meal was fantastic. As an individual who can't eat dairy, it can be quite difficult to eat at a cafe, but Sugar and Spice had such a wide amount of choices from their menu that I could eat from. The atmosphere was bright and relaxing as well as the two owners were absolutely lovely. My partner and I both got the peanut butter cake for desert and strongly suggest it. We will definitely become regulars.

Absolutely love this cafe! As I am lactose in tolerant, I regularly come here for afternoon tea and cake with my friends. The coffee is lovely, and the cakes are gorgeous! You can't tell they are vegan, as they taste the same as normal! Scrummy! Love the peanut butter and banana cake! Trish, Roy and their little newborn are all lovely too! :)

I visited Sugar and Spice yesterday (29/05/15) following a recommendation from a friend. Well we weren't disappointed! Yes it is true that you can take your dog in with you....it almost felt wrong to take my dog inside a cafe because so many places in this country are not dog friendly. We were made to feel very welcome. The coffee really is the real deal too...proper coffee. An added bonus for us was the fact that this establishment is Vegetarian/Vegan.The food is delicious, the coffee is great, the prices are superb and when your dog gets a dish of water and a treat, well that just made it a lovely visit for us. We will definitely be back and can recommend this place 100%.

Our friend took us to this little tea room on Lairdgate street for afternoon tea after a lovely walk through the bluebell woods on the Westwood?( I'm not sure of the actual name) . The cafe Is right on the corner Lairdgate and is run by a couple and their very new baby! The selection of home made cakes was quite impressive and were obviously well appreciated by the locals as many were almost sold out. The setting isn't elegant but cosy enough and the service was good though not fast as the man was doing everything himself. But this suited us fine as we were happy to relax and chat with other walkers who had joined us. The dark chocolate and orange sponge cake was moist, light and full of flavour with tiny pieces of orange in the sponge. Very rich and moreish. The lemon drizzle was equally good and very lemony as it needs to be. They'd sold out if Bakewell tart so we shared the cakes and the tea was hot, freshly brewed and nicely served with a China pit and cups and saucers. A present change from the ubiquitous mugs served in many places. A very pleasant place to meet friends for a light lunch or coffee or a delicious afternoon tea and cakes. Well worth a visit.

Called in for coffee and cake and was allowed to take our friends little dog in too. Owners were very friendly and fussed the dog giving him a drink and a chew which was nice. The menu is mainly vegetarian, and we can recommend the lemon drizzle cake and the peanut butter cake, both scrummy and home made. Nice friendly cafe.

Found this cafe by accident while looking for a gluten free snack for my husband. More than one gluten free choice is fantastic and they are wonderful even if you can eat gluten. The Raspberry and Coconut slice was delicious and the Chai frosting on my sponge cake devine. Add a friendly welcome and reasonable prices and you have a must visit venue.

Fantastic find, we ended up in Bridlington by chance and wanted something to eat, but didn’t want to go to a big chain, waked along the street to see this cafe open, so chanced it, a bit worried at first as not another soul in there. So glad we did, very friendly staff amazing coffee, food came freshly cooked, the all day breakfast was huge and the omelette was lovely, the only thing if I had to be picky was neither of the servers asked if we wanted any sauces to go our food, but I suspect they were fairly new as they both seemed a bit shy. I will definitely return and recommend it to my friends.
