Stromness Chinese Takeaway in Orkney Islands

We went here looking for dinner because the other restaurants in Stromness were either closed or fully booked so it seemed our only option. The meat in both of our meals was chewy. If I had a choice I wouldn't go back. Also be aware that they only accept cash. The notice did say cash only, no cheques, but no mention of cards. However it really is cash only.

Awful! They say they are authentic, but no way. Mushroom Curry so watery. I asked locals what they thought during trip in August and just said awful.. Avoid

It was so bad it went in the bin. I wouldn’t use this takeaway again under any circumstances. King prawn fried rice was bland with only a trace of peas. The chicken satay was inedible. The chicken was slimy with thick skin attached; one piece was pink in the middle. The satay sauce was thin and bitter. If I’d been given this in a restaurant I would have sent it back.

We had a takeaway from here over the weekend, the food was really good, an excellent choice of meat free alternatives. Prawn sesame toast is a must.

Visited here on holiday and Al I can say us Define food! I don’t get all the cats, the food was tasty and the service was very quick! I got spare ribs and sweet and sour chicken and both were not greasy, well cooked, and delivered in a timely fashion.

Very good! Food was tasty and well cooked, staff was pleasant, only complaint was how cold the store was.

Utterly vile. Two meals bought and dropped straight into the bin once tried. I've never done that before.

This is the worst Chinese food I have ever had, my husband had sweet and sour chicken which was 70% batter,thick and greasy,the chips were frozen, mine was meant to be chicken chow mein but it was more akin to a game of spot the chicken and onion,the saving grace was the curry sauce I ordered as without my meal would have been a box of dry noodles. Give it a wide berth folks

This place was awful. Hands down the worst food we have ever had, I wouldn’t feed it to my dog. Fried rice had no egg, no flavor, noodles were greasy and the Mongolian duck had a strange, soapy flavor. Yuck.

The standard of the food has deteriorated in the past few weeks, using an approximation of chicken and spinning out with more veg, the "chicken" is soft, rubbery and tasteless , i am sure it is mechanically formed chicken that is being used hence the issues. This used to be a decent takeaway place but standards have fallen, likely due to high inflation at the moment, I would rather pay more and get decent food than sub standard reformed chicken. i will give beef or pork a try next time to find out if any better

The food was nice well cooked and their is an extensive menu to choose from the opening times don't seem to be kept to rigoursley but if you ask the locals they seam to know when it open

We’re staying at the nearby campsite and called in on the way back from the ferry. Having read some recent negative reviews we were a bit apprehensive but needn’t have been. The order was taken politely by a young non-Chinese lady and produced quickly, but seemed to be freshly cooked; the kitchen staff all seemed to be Chinese. The shop was quite busy for a Thursday evening. We ate our sesame prawn toasts as we walked back to the campsite; they were hot, crispy and had plenty of prawns in. The rest of our order was satay beef (beef was tender and sauce was very pleasantly spicy), sweet & sour chicken Hong Kong style (chicken was lightly battered and tender, very tasty sauce) and egg fried rice - one portion was plenty between us with no stuck-together grains. We wouldn’t hesitate to go back if we’re ever in the area; the only reason I haven’t given 5 stars is that they don’t take card payment.

Delicious food, plentiful serves, quick service. Stromness, like many small places we visited on this trip doesn’t have a great deal of choice when it comes to restaurants. Fear not, this Chinese take away will take care of that - and give you a welcome change from pub grub.

The takeaway advertises a set meal in the window for £1 - clearly this is a mistake, but the faded ink hand written note is also a lack of care for this mistake. When we tried to order the set meal it became apparent it was not 'any main' course. You were not allowed to order 'noodle' dishes. The sales assistant on the order desk didn't really care and it was obvious she did not want to be there or take care to ensure your order was correct. We ordered normally as it became too difficult to order with "noodles" The food quite simply was awful with huge amounts of MSG The 1/4 aromatic crispy duck was nothing of the sort. It was a small pile of dry sawdust and the hoisin sauce was so very salty it was awful. The barbecue spare ribs were like leather. Very hard, no flavour and in a weird pale brown non descriptive sauce. Yuk. The chicken & pineapple was incredibly sweet and the chicken pieces had been so chemically tenderised they were like felt. The chow mein was really disappointing. The meat again was over chemicalised. The noodles were better but the gravy sauce was non descript. Very very disappointing and very mis-sold for £37. Go elsewhere and save your money.

Avoid! Just had honey ribs which were hard, fatty inedible and the sea food chow main was very salty. However place selling food here tonight.

Awful, worst Chinese meal ever, overcooked, greasy, tasteless. Starters for two, all overcooked, satay sauce runny and tasteless, prawn toast greasy, ribs so dry. Chips greasy and overcooked, curry sauce tasteless. Rice greasy and no flavour

We ordered a chicken fried rice, a king prawn chow mein and two sweet chilli chicken chow mein, along with a portion of spring rolls and mushrooms. Our orders were cooked in no time at all, which was just as well as we had been...

We had Two meals form the takeaway and each was so tasty and delicious. First night sweet chilli chicken and fried rice and the second was duck in plum sauce. The staff was very friendly and chatty, would definitely recommend this takeaway.

Due to the number of businesses choosing not to re-open, as restrictions relaxed, this little gem was a life-saver. Our Vegan in the group said that it was the biggest, most interesting, selection she had seen on a menu and she could probably eat there...

Cash only! That warning is all you need to know...the rest is all good. Fast service, great tasting food, big portions! Delicious!

Varied menu, but you may have to wait at peak times. This is in the heart of Stromness where there is minimal parking, so be prepared to walk! Average prices; average fare.

Thought you can’t go wrong with chicken fried rice and curry sauce. Well the dish was pretty tasteless.

Very good quality takeaway. Ideally situated across road from our guest house. Not the cheapest but the quality more than made up for the price.

Food in Stromness seems to be generally more expensive than the rest of Scotland, but the Chinese takeaway provides good sized portions at a reasonable price - just what you need after a day's diving.

Enjoying a great takeaway of 6 or more dishes of Chinese Food with friends one evening. Highly recommend the food here.

Had a takeaway here in August, the chicken was a bit fatty, taste was ok, long wait for a takeaway and expensive, probably won’t go back.

The food is great, generous portions and loads to choose from, fast service and reasonably priced. We've been getting takeaways from there every week since opening nearly 2 years ago.

Quick service, adequate Thai food, very hot and spicy as well as hot in temperature, nice size portion. Only complaint was not many vegetables to go with the sauce.

I can’t remember when I last enjoyed a Chinese takeaway so much. Obviously freshly cooked, tender pork, plenty of veggies and generous portions. Highly recommended.

In Stromness, it was cold, wet and windy and out of season. We were looking for a restaurant but couldn't find one open. We opted for take away - and it was really good!

Decided to eat takeout after biking 23 miles. Perfect meal when you're not really able to eat a lot. I enjoyed conversing with the young man who took my order and payment. Being from the South in the United States my voice is very different and starts conversations in others...lol . They do not accept credit cards but there is an ATM just down the sidewalk. I was able to recharge my phone as I waited on my meal. Advice is to let it thoroughly cool off!!Very hot!

We called here for takeout one evening and it was so good we called again before the end of the week. Lovely food, recommended.
