I waited 1 hour for my food after ordering on a Friday night why doesn't one person serve walk-ins and another serve phone orders staff are lovely

It’s so long since my daughter and have had fish and chips due to gluten and dairy intolerances. Rang the shop and was advised of all our options, they even had gf vinegar. I was nearby and I was told that I would only have to wait a few minutes. Friendly staff and knowledgeable. Absolutely delicious would definitely recommend.

Good food, good value, good service, good range of gluten free options.

I so wish I was a local, visited whilst we were on holiday and had the most delicious fish and chips. And really reasonable on the family deal. Amazing thank you!

Only ordered a large chips (they really are large too) busy shop but attentive staff, overheard a horrible phone call where a ‘lady’ upon being told they’re cash only unloaded an abusive tirade… What on earth is the matter with some people 🤭 we subsequently drove home & the chips were still fresh and very tasty, highly recommended.

Great food. I am gluten intolerant and was informed they could do me gluten free food to order and did not need the 30 minute notice anymore. Also a huge range of options normally not avalible to me. Very impressed.

Indeed the best chip shop on the island! Me and my girlfriend ordered regular haddock, small chips, scampi and calamari. Haddock was coated with tempura-light batter. Generoud portion in chips, fried tp crispy and soft inside. Calamari and scampi were big in chunks. All seafoods are fresh and cooked perfectly. The waiting time was around 10 min and cash was the only way to pay, so it's always better to get some cash on your way here.

We had high expectations as we kept reading reviews that this was the best fish & chips on the island. We ordered the cod and haddock and both were overcooked. It felt like we were eating dry chicken. Chips are nothing to write home about.

This is a top tier island best fish and chip shop, its only been here a 100 years to prove its worth!! , the famous garlic sauce made by Danny, the bomb! Classic British hospitality and the nostalgic fish and chip atmosphere, Cheers mate!

Really fresh food, friendly staff 10/10. My son had a large line-caught cod and I chips and battered mushrooms and my daughter had a vege burger. Really good food at a decent price. The owner said that since taking over the business the ethos is now ethically and local sourced produce.

Always been a great place to go. The staff are polite and friendly and helpful if you need it. The service is always quick and never had to wait long and the food is always tasty and nicely cooked. Keep up the good work.

We were served by the owner, who was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about fish and chips. Told us what the traditional way of eating is. Was very helpful in telling us and taking care of our halal dietary needs. The fish was great in taste and size. The chips portion large feeds more than 1. The soft drinks were very cheap. The owner was so honest and did not care about earning as he advised us not to get the profiteroles as they may not be halal. He was very patient when I spent time going through the wide ranging menu. They took good care of us - highly recommended also because of its history!

Promised the family fish and chips while on the island and today we went to stotesburys as highly recommended. We were not disappointed cooked fresh as we waited huge portion and had to try scampi and panko prawns absolutely delicious. Deserving of 5 stars. You wont be disappointed.

Great food, great staff & Great staff. Best bit of Cod and Chips I've had in many a year. I have fond memories of this shop many years ago, and it is just as good as then. The portions are very generous. It's definitely a place to visit and an experience to savour. I will return. I live on the North Island now but like to return home to visit family and friends.

dealing with to many booking orders 35min waiting time people complain to each other out side good job it was not raining.

Waited 45 minutes for 2 fish and chips and 1 sausage. I was not made aware of the wait. The chips were dry and both fish had lots of bones in… I thought fish and chip shops de-bone their fish?… threw most of it away.

Came in late, no cash on us, lady offered us free food and good service

Best fish and chip shop on the Isle of Wight. Tasty food, affordable prices and a very friendly and helpful service. The staff are happy to serve every customer and always go the extra mile to make all their customers satisfied. The portion sizes are excellent and the food is very tasty and always fresh. Wait times are sometimes longer but then again, this is probably owing to everything being cooked to order. Highly recommend visiting this fish and chip shop for an experience you'll be happy with! Amazing!!

Traditional fish and chip shop. Can be a bit of wait for your order and sometimes you have to queue outside. The staff are friendly but be advised they only accept cash. The quality of the chips can be a bit sporadic too which is a shame. The last ones we bought were very crispy but incredibly greasy and not very edible. The pie on the other hand was cooked really well, not soggy and almost like it had been cooked in an air fryer. On other occasions the chips have been brilliant.

Oh my goodness !!! What a wait !!! Stood along the side of a road for SOoo long .. only 2 staff at the counter. A couple out the back but drinking tea , looking at phones.. not an acceptable waiting time I wouldn't bother again .

Fantastic fish and chips spot with lovelly and friendly staff. They made for us fish Burger with freshly fried, solid and jucy portion of cod. It was delitious 👌 Highly reccomended!

My review is purely about the cod and chips. I ordered regular one instead of large and it tasted undercooked. I am a big cod and chips fan and was looking forward to this cod and chips because they won an award in 2021 however I was unfortunately shocked about how it tasted. The cod itself seemed like it wasn't freshly made and the batter didn't have the same taste as my usual cod that I get. The waiter was very generous and gave ketchup for free I think which I was grateful for and had high hopes for as I also got the handmade sauce but it just was below par. I came on Saturday evening so maybe they had the last fish or something. Iuckiky I bought some takeaway at an Indian place nearby as the cod and chips shop closed at 9pm. They only take cash as well but there is a cash machine nearby

the service here is absolutely amazing, very friendly and chatty staff. everything is pretty much cooked to order so there is a bit of a wait but it’s definitely worth it as the food is amazing. definitely the best chippy in the isle of wight!

Got chips from here last night and they are best chips ever had.

Never been on the Isle of Wight before and went to this specific fish and chip shop after hearing many good reviews. Amazing staff. Very welcoming. Great customer service. Will always be my go to fish and chip shop

Went yesterday after reviews but fish was greasy although the batter was light. Massive portion of chips for the regular size but most went in the bin as they had been kept warm and were soggy and not like proper chip shop chips should be. It is not always quantity that people want as quality is good especially when paying cash these days.

Lovely fish and chip shop. The service was friendly and fast despite being horrendously busy. The food was great. There's a massive choice but we had traditional cod and chips. Portions are huge and very competitively priced. You can park outside if you're lucky.

Food was so greasy I couldn’t finish it. Everything soaked in grease. Chips were floppy and so wet with grease they formed into a ball. Was really disappointed, especially with the money I spent. What a shame. I feel a bit sick now…

Really nice staff. They fry all gluten free options in a seperate fryer and there is loads of gluten free options. They know exactly what Ceoliac is. The Portions where massive and I would definitely come back

Incredible service from kind and genuine people. Having been let down by another fish and chip shop earlier in the day the guys at Stokesbury more than made up for it! You could argue it was a blessing in disguise! Food was amazing and the portion size is extremely generous for the price you pay. Can’t recommend these enough to anyone living on or visiting the island.

Everything on list of our requirements unavailable even though listed on their overhead menu we were told "thats an old menu list" maybe up date it then? went for fish n chips in the end , wish we hadn't bothered. Think they were yesterday's re heated, the chips were rock hard and the fish VERY dry, loads of batter which left a coating of something on your tongue don't know if it's the oil or batter mix used. Over all disgusting taste, chucked out for foxes and even they wouldn't eat them!! Not the usual staff ( never seen any of the ones in there before ) very abrupt and rude, shouting from the back of kitchen when we were asking for items. Theres one woman in there who oversees everything and is very efficient but sadly not there tonight. They used to be excellent for food and their service but sadly things seem to of changed, we will be trying another chip shop nxt time. Wouldn't recommend anymore.

What can I say!! The staff, the banter, the food!! An enjoyable experience and the food is second to none, a proper chippy take out in an amazing location. You can tell this ‘plaice’ is busy and popular, lots of regulars and lots of people using delivery companies to order food. Heart and ‘sole’ of Newport in my eyes 10/10 - would highly recommend.

I really like this place and the staff are friendly. However it really is hit and miss with the chips. No one wants reheated chips. Also who doesn't accept card payments these days.

Popped in to get our dog a sausage as a treat. They were all absolutely lovely, unfortunately they didn’t take card so we we’re just about to go and grab cash out when they told us to just take it for her on the house and then came round the front and gave her lots of attention and she throughly enjoyed her sausage! Lovely staff!

Excellent Experience - probably the best chips we’ve ever eaten. Friendly welcome, fish cooked to order, which took about ten minutes. £24 for small haddock and chips, regular cod and chips, fish cake and cheesy chips with sauces - portion sizes generous, we were defeated as a family of four for lunch. Cash only (there are cash points 100 yards up the road). On-street parking opposite the shop and a park around the corner for Al fresco dining. 😊

Absolutely amazing place for gluten free fish & chips, cannot praise the lovely staff enough! Ordered 30 mins before as have to cook fresh and put fryer on for gluten free, the fishb& chips were outstanding, very tasty!! .....the gentleman gave me a gluten free vinegar as daughter who has coeliac disease does not like vinegar, but we do as we all had gluten free Fish & chips..... Thankyou for the amazing food.
