Very safe environment. All staff wearing masks and well presented. Very clean also. Very good service and excellent meals.

Haven't been for years after it went downhill. Gave it another try to see if it had got any better. I didn't think it could get any worse but it has, the food was absolutely disgusting, even the chips where horrible, and portions where tiny. Used to be the best chippy around years ago, now it's absolutely awful. You wouldn't feed it to your dog.

The service from this chippy is appalling the staff are so rude and clueless not to mention the overpriced for what you actually get if they don’t forget something or charge you for something you never had. I been going to this same chippy for years and I don’t know if it’s a change in ownership but if so they should change the name and stop pulling down once was boss chippy , I will never return here again, it’s a shame really the old staff where welcoming and friendly

Fish and chips, chinese and kebabs all excellent! Whenever we are back in Liverpool, we go regularly.

Called for phone order was told dont take them any more , had to wait 29 mins outside , got our food and the portions are so much smaller than usual with a price increase ! Disappointed

Chips are amazing. Perfectly crispy and soft in the middle. Usually get a few Chinese dishes too and they’re always lovely. HUGE portions.

Virutas mojadas y empapadas. Pescado no cocido fresco que casi todos los demás chips he estado para hacer esto. Por lo tanto, la masa estaba muy grasosa. Pido curry de verduras. . El curry más suave y aguado que he tenido de un chippy. No volveré.

Went to Steves for fish and chips absolutely awful fish not fried to order tasted like it had been fried twice and the chips were abysmal,so will not be going again how people can give it 5 stars is beyond me

I remember buying fish suppers for the family when the children were young. The quality of the food and the way it is presented has been maintained at a very high level.

Love this chippy! We go about once a fortnight it takes about 25 mins but worth the trip! Food is always so fresh and piping hot. Omelettes are the best iv tasted and chips always fresh. Great staff too, always a bonus.

Brilliant for Fish and Chips. Also does nice Chinese! Order you fish to be fried from the back of the queue to help save time as it is very popular.

Visité Steve en tres ocasiones para cenar durante mi viaje al Reino Unido y tenía excelentes comidas cada vez. Hemos pescado y chip restaurante aquí en Canadá, pero les falta la autenticidad de Steve, y además están muy caro en comparación. El pescado estaba hecha en un bonito empanada crujiente y la gran porción de patatas fritas donde a la perfección. También probé el mezclado Kabob, que era una verdadera montaña de carne sabrosa para conseguir a través. El personal era muy amable y se aseguró de que todo estaba listo para ir al mismo tiempo. El curry y salsa de guisantes eran geniales partes blandas. Me alegro de mi cuñado me presentó a Steve y yo volveremos la próxima vez que esté en Liverpool.

He estado viniendo a este "fish and chips" durante años (más de 30) y nunca decepciona. Ahora he mudado del distrito y hacer un viaje de ida y multi-milla para obtener mi costumbre - orientar todas mis, ahora local, restaurantes. Tienen un amplio menú, aunque tengo que admitir que no he probado aún la mitad de ellas, pero he oído decir que eres genial. Puede estar muy concurrido a veces y puede ser una cola, pero que sólo es testimonio de lo bien considerado que es, y sin duda vale la pena la espera - lo cual no es realmente mucho tiempo. Lo recomendaría sin dudarlo.

I have been going to Steves since being a pupil at Aigburth vale school ( now demolished) and I am 52! No longer live here but go to visit mum and like to take the opportunity to pop in! A local institution. Great choppy. Does what it says on the tin.

I regularly visit this take away and have no complaints. This take away is by far the cleanest i have every visited, and staff are really friendly, everything on their menu is made to a high standards. I would recommend this take away to anyone passing or living near by.

Always a massive queue out the door and once you've had food from here once you'll understand why. The best chippy for miles around.

Great chippy offering all the usual from a chippy...haddock or cod, burgers, pies puddings and sausages, and kebabs. It also does Chinese with limited but popular choices avaliable.The chips are freshly made in the shop. Fish is all freshly hand battered and cooked when you order it upon arriving (remember to place that order as you arrive).Staff are good, courteous and friendly. Even cracking a joke if the place is not too busy at that time.

Everybody raves about this place so I tried it out. It's supposed to be known for it's Fish and Chips so thats what I ordered. the fish was only ok, the batter was not fully cooked. The chips were disgusting, undercooked and anaemic Tried it a second time and still the same, when I asked if they could put my chips back in for a longer cook I was insulted by the cook. I told him I want them cooked properly and he insisted they were. The customer is always right. They were not to my taste and if I want them browning a little, I expect to get it. Very bad manners here.

7 lads called in before the 4 nations rugby league final on 20/11/16, had a mixture of meals from pies to fish all @£2.50, good food friendly staff and good value.f

I've been using this chippy for 15 years. Never had a bad meal. They have won awards for their fish. I've tried other chippies in the area but nothing compares. It's a family chippy . Well done to all the staff there

We tried this chip shop out in 5/11/16.We arrived at the chip shop with our children, it was quite unwelcoming people were being served and none asked us our order.The children being children were happy and excited my friend had told the children to stand by myself any how's the children were accidentally knocking the counter and then man behind the counter frying shouted "how many times has she told you to move!" at our children we were absolutely appalled....How dare this man frying food speak to out children like that!We were then served we would of went else were but the children were hungry.The lady with the blonde hair gave us prawn crackers as a gesture which was very kind of her nice lady.But overall the food was poor and the service off that man was horrendous.Would not recommend!

Decent portions, lightly battered fish, nice chips (not hard or too greasy). Good quality Greek meals (though sometimes too much onion). Tasty Chinese meals. Clean environment. Friendly, trustworthy staff (I forgot my change one time and they kept it for me when I next ordered a meal there, you don't get that very often). Visited many times over the last 30 years, when we lived in the area. We moved several years ago and still go back now for a 'take-away', as havent found any chippy comparable for quality food, decent portions and price. I'd say one of the best chippy's in Liverpool, certainly the south side of the city.

Had seen some reviews on here and via the Liverpool Echo on this chippy so finally gave it a go. Had fish n chips and fish was cooked fresh to order, nice large piece nicely battered but not too much batter. Good portion of chips. Served nice and quickly by friendly staff and food tasted excellent. I heartily recommend and will be visiting again.

Used to go this chippy at least twice a week. But over the last couple of weeks the prices have gone up, the quality of food has gone down, and the portion sizes have decreased. Whoever came up with this idea must be a greedy tight get because every time you go in its packed and it wasn't the cheapest chippy to begin with. Do yourself a favour and walk past this place. Used to be good but now your paying more for lower quality food and less of it at that.

We'd heard excellent reviews of this chip shop so today we decided to try it for ourselves and we certainly weren't disappointed! The shop is spotlessly clean and bright and has an excellent menu which, I believe, is going to get even bigger from next week! They have an English, Chinese and Greek menu at the moment. The staff are so helpful and friendly and just go that extra mile for their customers. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The chips were golden brown, the fish was beautifully white and covered in a delicious light batter. The fish cakes were a wonderful mix of soft mashed potato and herbs, wrapped in a golden batter and the tahini sauce tasted really authentic. I can't wait to go back. We took ours down to nearby Otterspool Prom and enjoyed our meal sitting in the car, looking out over the river. Perfect!!

Been going here regularly for years for fish and chips etc, recently ordered a Chinese meal which wasn't so good and I have to say I was a bit disappointed really, great chippy though.

Still one of the best chippy's in South Liverpool. You don't get many chippy's in Liverpool with up to 8 staff serving and it's usually really busy and the fish is consistently beautifully done, as is their chicken.I'm a regular customer here and as long as they keep up the good work, I'll continue to be. As previously mentioned, I like to phone ahead (to save the wait in the queue) and they do seem to be getting a bit better at answering the phone too. :)As for the guy below who complained about the fish he got here on Good Friday, it looked a big enough size to me (from his photo) and he failed to mention the queue here on Good Friday evening snaked right around the block.

I hadn't been home for a while and had a craving for chippy so sent my nephew down for fish, chips and curry sauce. He waited an hour to get the food but as it is good Friday that can be forgiven. However the fish is a lot smaller than normal and the curry sauce was actually mushy peas when I opened them. Not the first time our order has been wrong and combined with the smaller portions I think Steve's is going downhill. I will avoid in future.

Got to be the best chippy on merseyside if not the UK. All cooked fresh in front of you, choice of fish and if you want it battered or breaded. Plus the staff are friendly and welcoming and the shop is always spotless. Chinese dishes are great too.

We really enjoyed the cod and chips and mushy peas!! even the missus enjoyed it and she is a food snob, the price was fair and the portion size was adequate.

A little suprised as this is meant to be one of the best chippy's around. Ordered chicken curry, fried rice, chips and spring rolls. Whilst waiting for my order my daughter commented on how filthy the kitchen looked. When we got home ad opened the food it had a really bad smell maybe stall or over used fat. The spring rolls stunk and the chicken curry was just full of salt. Didn't enjoy the meal and would not recommend this place at all.

I may be biased but Steves is the best chippy I have ever been to they give you loads of chips but they are always lovely and fresh the staff are great really friendly and the gravy is just a bit special my favourite though is their chopsuey roll - awesome x

Went to Steve's chippy as recommended by colleagues and I was not disappointed! Without doubt the best chips I have tasted in Liverpool. Being an Irish lady, I am quite fussy when it comes to chips and these did not disappoint.

had a special chow mein and first of all the smell was rancid , it wasn't edible and had to bin it ! the beef was clearly off as i could not bring myself to swallow it !it had obviously went off and then been cooked in the noodles ! this is a shockingly vile practice! i had rice as well that was ok , but the chips where very slimy/ greasy and undercooked ! i wouldn't recommend this chippy at all and i would of got a refund if i lived in aigburth ! i can't believe this has good ratings it was good a few years back but certainly not now ! avoid at all costs !

Tried to phone through for an order but phone rang out so we walked around instead. The place was heaving which was a very good sign. The chip shop was also immaculate too, both behind and in front of the counter. Staff were brilliant, very efficient in taking orders and bagging them up. Got the queue down in no time. Only had a 5 minute wait for our meals. Single meals are in portions that can only be described as sharing portions, too much for one person to eat. Everything was extremely fresh. One of the best little chippys I've been to.

Absolutely spot on for a Friday night in treat. Enormous, fresh portions. There is often a little bit of a wait but only because they're always so busy and all of the food is cooked fresh. Great value. Definitely the best chippy in this end of Liverpool!

I just bought a large Chips and Cod for £5.20 from here as we moved here from Birmingham, where have a number of great chippys to choose from, namely 'Dads' Fish & Chips, 'Flakes' in Moseley & 'Chamberlains' nr Quinton:I read the reviews for the best chippy near Aigburth and it was a toss up between Chris's or Steve's (both of you need to work on the originality of your names btw!). I chose to go with Steve's as i was hungry and it was the nearest. I have tried to be as thorough as possible:1) the fish was remarkably small in comparison to cod from other places.2) the batter on the cod was thick and overdone imagine an orangey brown coloration - not golden.3) Now the chips...I had to wait 5mins for it to be made, but if it meant it would be hot and fresh then I have no problem with it! The price was £1.90 for a large bag, which was fine - but it looked more like a medium to me.Size issue aside, the taste of the chips was unexpected given the rave reviews. They are clearly using very cheap potatoes - not something like Maris Pipers or Spanish potatoes which would fry very well in giving you a consistent & delicious tasting product.Basically this is a very poor serving of Fish & Chips from a place that I thought would deliver to a high standard.As a balance, I have to mention that it was Nov 5th at 7pm and i appreciate that they may well have been busier than normal (as the Sefton Park fireworks display was nearby), but this is no excuse in my eyes. Consistency of quality is key - always and at all times.To Steve's owner: if you're reading this - check out 'Flakes' in Moseley or 'The Old Smithy' in the Windermere or Chamberlains in Birmingham.

This is one of the best chippies in the world, whether it be traditional fish and chips or an exotic oriental dish, it is of superb quality and well cooked. The staff are pleasant and courteous and focused on providing good service.

This is my favourite chippy in Liverpool, I haven't really had much from the menu because I'm veggie but they do lots of veggie options. The chips are amazing! Proper chippy chips not them rubbish cheapo pre-bagged ones that some chippies use. They are always busy but I see that as a good sign and the staff work really fast and efficiently whilst always remaining friendly and polite.

They are great! Great and very tasty food, staff who are always pleasant and you don't have to cook. Perfect treat, maybe a big naughty but it's worth it!!!

Called in today, 15 minutes before the lunch closing time of 1.45pm not really expecting to get what we wanted, fish, chips and mushy peas x3, how wrong we were! Very friendly and obliging staff served up freshly cooked food which was excellent. The place itself is spotlessly clean. Could not have wished for better.

Steves used to be a quality chippy but those days are gone! The fish and chips are expensive and very average,the sausage dinner was not very nice,it is busy because it is the only chip shop in Aigburth vale!

Ordered two chinese meals with chips, and at £16.00, not cheap. After reading the reviews I was expecting good quality food. How wrong was I. The sweet and sour chicken was, in a word, disgusting. The sauce was greasy and the chicken was dried out with a cold fatty covering of batter . The food went in the bin. Not impressed!!

I was reccomeded to Steves by a couple of people, claiming it to be the perfect chippy and guaranteed to be open though it was late. When I showed up they were cleaning up, but tried their best to feed me and though I ended up with mushy peas, chips and a damn fine fish cake, I have to say it was nothing shirt I delicious. I don't even like mushy peas, but now they are a staple in my order every time.The rumours you hear are true, this place is how a chippy should be.

If we ever get a chippy Chinese, we always come here. No other chippy does it better. Chips are always so tasty as well. We usually have the salt and pepper chicken (nice big chunks of chicken battered with garlic, chillies and green peppers). This comes with either a portion of chips or boiled rice. The special fried rice is exceptional - and massive! The curry sauce and sweet and sour sauce is the best around!The chicken/beef in green peppers and black bean sauce is really tasty, as is the chow mien. Highly recommend this place!Would advise ringing order through as it gets very busy and can be waiting a while (although totally worth the wait!!)

Living locally I've been going to Steve's for a number of years... The meals are consistently good whatever you order and the staff are all nice etc.The only thing I don't like is waiting in the queue, and when you do ring through to place a phone order, it's usually pot luck as to whether anyone will answer... which seems crazy as they must lose plenty of business through this... when you can phone through you can just collect it in 20 minutes, otherwise you're stood there waiting in the queue... then waiting for it to be cooked etc. ..Aside from that moan though, it's still easily the best fish & chip shop for miles around!

Every time I've drove past this place it's always busy no matter what day of the week it is. So on good Friday I decided to get fish and chips for the family. Even though it's hard to park in that area and the queue was out the door ( everyone had the same idea) it was well worth the wait. The queue was orderly and flowed adequate with a good service behind the counter. They serve several cuisines in there which all seemed equally popular. We ordered cod and chips one with peas and one with curry. The prices are great for the quality and the fish was freshly cooked and to perfection. Not very greasy and had a lovely flavour. The chips were also fresh and delicious and the peas just topped it off nicely. My husband couldn't get enough of the curry sauce he said it was the best fish and chips we have had in a long time. I would definately recommend a visit if your passing that way or on your way back from a visit down Otterspool promenade pop in it would be worth your whilst well done steves chippy keep up the good work!

As chippy's go you cannot go far wrong! Good choice, clean, pleasant staff and reasonable portions to cost ratio!Would recommend half and half (chips and fried rice) and if you are feeling plush cover it in curry sauce.Enjoy!!!

My daughter brought me here to get fish and chips whilst visiting Liverpool. She told me she thought it was lovely and she was right. Good portions and freshly cooked. We did not minding waiting in the queue and the staff were very friendly. I noticed they have a 5 star hygiene rating and would recommend it.

A previous winner of the Liverpool Echo chip shop of the year, the recently refurbished Steve’s chip shop in Aigburth Vale consistently serves up high quality meals. They offer a varied selection of English / Chinese / kebabs/ burgers etc, all of which a cooked to order.Telephone orders can be taken and during peak times worth utilising this facility. Steve’s remains very popular with locals in the area and worth a visit.

We ordered a pre-Christmas chippy supper for 19 people, asking for it to be ready at 6.30pm. All ready, piping hot, wrapped and boxed for taking to venue by 6.35! Absolutely fabulous service, great fish and chips, all backed up by courteous staff, 2 complimentary bottles of coke and an offer of carrying everything to the car. Absolutely loved the service tonight. Had a laugh with the staff while they prepared our meals which were delicious and very generous in size.They even threw in an extra Banana Fritter as they said the first one was too small (they were both huge!)Best chip shop around and everything they prepare is fresh and tasty.

After a wonderful night out at a friends wedding both me and my partner where still a wee bit peckish (it was late after all) and in the mood for classic English Fish & Chips. We both said "What about Steve's, it should still be open" and it was. Even at that time of nite there were queues, but services was fast, the food was cheap and the menu enlarge (after being refurbished). The staff where really friendly (as usual) and the place feels like its has always been there, a local landmark and great place for a quick bite if you are peckish.

Nice chip shop been quite a few times, portion size can be a bit smaller than other places and we like to share but its nice. Its very difficult to get here driving if you live a bit of away, you cant park outside because its a busy narrow street and the streets near by our narrow and always full, this slightly puts me off and they dont do delivery

Overall not bad for Liverpool which for some reason lacks a decent chip shop. However, for fish and chips this is middle of the road stuff, and the large offering and diversification into all manner of cuisines leads me to believe there are no purists in this establishment.Potatoes used for chips are of a decent and consistent quality, but chips soggy, possibly left in the warmer too long with the lid closed. Enough said.Let's talk batter. The fish is cooked to order usually, but despite this the dark brown batter is moist and heavy with no texture, definition or crisp. Once you break through the claggy crust, slightly dry fish is revealed; the taste of which however is quite good. It's probably best I not mention the size of the tiddler in question.Peas. Standard.Scraps. Non existent.In summary, a jack of all trades, master of none.

Our local and what's not to like? Can't understand Ken18's (Mr Grumpy) review below. This chippy can get very busy and in fact the service efficiency and co-ordination of the team is fantastic - really the best I've seen anywhere.

My brother in law came to visit and their children wanted fish and chips so we tried Steve. Staff were ok, fish and chips was nice but the Chinese meals weren't up to standard. Bit disappointed.

We love this place to bits- my husband would go every night if he could! The fish and chips is outstanding and the mushy peas are great too. A visit to Steve's is a real treat!

Live nearby, keep reading good reviews of this local chippy, Decided to give it a go on a Friday evening at 8pm. Very busy. Totally ignored by staff, too busy with phoned in orders. Guy behind me gives order in before me. Staff operative says ' Oh was he before you?' Pretty obvious. Stood there for another 5 minutes with absolutely no recognition by staff, too busy doing other things. At this point I left and took my business elsewhere. Classic example of a business resting on its laurels. Carry on with the exceptionally poor customer service. I will not be back and would not advise anyone to experience such a poor experience.

I Had given up trying to find good NON greasy fish and chips but after reading some good reviews i thought, rather scepticaly that i would give STEVES a try.I .have often passed this takeaway but never been in before.ALL the signs were good 5 out 5 from the food hygiene people,clean,big queue,at least 7 staff all well presented and friendly.My eyes lit up when i saw that there was a choice of batter or breadcrumbs<i went for the latter,lovely white cod and golden crispy bcrumbs>choice of cod,plaice or haddock.Someone even asked for lightly battered fish and this was no problem.Chips were beautiful,fresh non greasy.Tried a tub of curry,this too was perfect not too weak but not eye watering.BEST in LIVERPOOL.

Having previously given Steve's a good review and then subsequently read that the quality of the food had gone downhill, I went back to see for myself. Although I like the Chinese meals Steve's produces, I thought I would see how they were doing with the staple - fish, chips and peas. The fish is always cooked to order, so no sitting around in the warmer. The batter is not too thick and cooked crisp and brown. The fish is wrapped separately (unless you are eating it right away) so that the batter remains crisp until you get it home. You get a huge portion of chips (enough for two people) and the peas are nice and 'mushy'. All in all, it was excellent. I could not detect any deterioration in quality and am looking forward to my next visit.

We're quite spoilt for decent chippies, but we always go to Steves for traditional, mainly because they stick mushrooms and onions in the gravy, and the chips are good quality.The chinese meals are a bit hit and miss for me.It's a bit of a trek, but worthwhile for the gravy - chips and gravy from Steves is traditional hangover food in my house...

This chippy used to have a fantastic reputation, it was award winning. Lately the food had been sub-standard and the manager on duty was not happy with any kind of criticism/advice and was down right rude. Expensive too...

This used to be the best chippy around, now however it is over-priced and portions are small. Serving staff were friendly and helpfull but manager was unapologetic for bad standard of food. I wont be returning.

Friendly staff, high standards and freshly cooked. The best I know anywhere. They deserve praise for consistently high standards over many years. Thanks and please keep on going!

We travel across the city for the fish and chips from Steves. Its not the cheapest and there is always a queue, but the fish and chips are excellent. (we havent tried anything else) Staff are nice too.Try it-you won't be disappointed!

did not live up to its reputation, although we tried it three times just to make sure. Food was nothing special and had to wait forever in the queue.
