Normally ok but was terrible... food was that bad it has made us ill. Tough food that came cold we will not be returning here £60 worth of sickness

The Sunday banquet is great, I've taken a few of my friends multiple times, and each time, it's been value for money ++ tasty. The owner / Front of house person is always welcoming and friendly. I would recommend supporting this business and giving them a try^

Come on guys. Normally your take out is pretty good. What happened? We waited an hour and the food was tepid. Disappointed on this occasion.

The restaurant looks rather tired at the edges, street frontage awful, customer care ok not outstanding, food very much standard fare so not too hard to get it to an ok standard but my 'tender pieces of lam" dish was chewy tough meat and since everything else is pretty routine curry house fare, the meat in the main dish is the point that could score but failed. It was ok, but unremarkable.

Quite surprised with the high rating as the chicken tikka massala tasted really bland ... really dark red more like thick tomato sauce with hardly any spices ... the chicken was dry with a funky taste to the chicken like it was cheap and not the freshest.... the nan bread is quite smal and very thin ... the rice portion is small and precooked and reheated in container as the rice was stuck to the lid also quite dry only the bombay potatoes were nice. Food was just average and not the finest Indian cuisine I have eaten......reminded me of food stall food ..... Not worth the around 40 quid mark for 2 people .

A very good service holds the third star in my review . Sadly the dishes don't seem to have the flavour of many English Indian restaurants of today, it could be that the normal chefs were off, but in my experience it is not the best in the area

I have had both take away and dine in at this restaurant. The food is always fantastic- the lamb garlic chili in particular is excellent. The staff are really lovely and friendly too. I'll be going back often!

Would’ve been higher as most of the dishes tasted great but were a bit small. - Mushroom rice wasn’t as packed as other places provide - Not many prawns in prawn dansak but tasted great, nice kick - Chana sag was a tad bitter + The brinjal was delicious and not super oily like others we’ve tried + The aloo chat had great flavours + Keema naan was also very good + Arrived bang on time!

Food was nice and delicious… Just a small piece of advise, since majority of your food is from India, therefore do not use those white crockery instead of that use some traditional copper based crockeries to serve food and dishes.. This will look more attractive and traditional.

Food quantity is less then before , found fly in the Curry, no taste in the food, previously found hair, they have never changed. Gone report to food and hygiene.

I have used this takeaway restaurant for years but the last few times there has been so much water on my plate where they are obviously watering the sauce down it puts me off my food 😪. Come on Star of Spice you charge enough for your food for it not to have to be watered down. I would add a photo if I could.

I'd never been here before. Star of Spice was full of surprises for me. Since a lot of banquet/buffet offers have not continued after Lockdown, I was surprised to hear they had it again. I get confused between banquets and buffets, so was surprised to see no help-yourself table. I was given the normal menu and told to order a starter, a main course, rice, a vegetable dish, bread and coffee afterwards. All for this tiny price, what a surprise! I was told there were a few items not included (no surprise there). I asked about a Bangladeshi dish from the Chef's Specials. Yes, to my surprise, I could order that. And I did. It was a lovely surprise to have the dishes placed on a warmer so they could stay hot. It was all really tasty. The coffee wasn't brilliant but who goes to a Bangladeshi restaurant for their coffee? The final surprise (yes, another one) was no tip already added to the bill. I hate when places sneak the service charge in. I tipped. I'll be back - with a Kashmeeri friend. I'll take photos next time.

Good tasty meal but not exceptional. Couldn't find any prawns in the biriani but otherwise adequate. A bit preoccupied with orders for take outs to attend to those chosing to dine in. Sadly this is fast becoming the new standard diners are coming to expect.

I have eaten here on several occasions and every time has been outstanding, the staff are friendly and attentive and nothing is too much trouble for them, the food is outstanding every single time, proper quality Indian cooking that tastes sooo good. I'm very particular when it comes to restraunts and food, and I can whole heartedly recommend this place to anyone that wants a really lovely meal out. The last time I went we had a birthday party and the staff were truly amazing going the extra mile to make sure it was a special occasion, and everyone commented on how good the food was. Thankyou star of spice, until the next time.

We ordered food which was terrible. The panner tikka masala had red colour on it without any sauce. All the dishes had no flvour or masalas. Seemed as if sugar was put and served. This is definitely not Indian food. We woud never again order from here. We specifically mentioned that one of us is allergic to nuts but when the food came it was not nut free. Terrible expereinec to sum it up.

Awful food, no taste. Will never order again from here. We specifically asked for nut free food but the food that we got had nuts. We called the restaurant but did not get a satisfactory response. The paneer tikka had red colour on it.

Went here with my parents for a meal while we visited London and we were blown away! Food was absolutely stunning and our waiter was lovely. If we lived local we'd be regulars

Amazing food lovely clean restaurant very polite staff

I have been to this resturant twice with my gf. The food is always what every people’s tongue wants and the service was also excellent. We were served by a polite gentleman named helal. He was so polite and kind to every customer. Will definitely go again and again and i’ll recommend everyone if you want to try spicy and yummy indian foods.

Really polite staff and always willing to recommend a dish. We go here quite frequently as the portions are huge and paneer dishes are great. A hidden gem when you consider location.

Hehehheh Delicious, best around, no way, orderd a vindaloo chicken dry and chewy like it had been re heated and the vindaloo sauce was awful, basically like blended tin tomatos and spices added, its like the sauce was cooked separately no onions or anythink,when paying he asked me did i enjoy, i couldn't lie i said it was awful i asked him would he eat the sh ##t he served me, i dont often write reviews. Star of Spice is our first choice of indian food. The staff are very polite and helpful, the food is just the way we want it, it has lovely flavour and its fresh, we always get pappodom and fresh salad on our delivery free. would deffo recommend our friends and family

Fantastic food, good value for money and good service when I order in their restaurant for a takeaway.

I ordered from this establishment for the first time today and i was really disapointed with the service. My food took an hour to be delivered and once it arrived the portion was surprisingly small it was cold. I telephoned the restaurant to inform them of this and the gentleman on the phone was rude and not apologetic at all, and shockingly advised me to microwave it! I'm really disappointed because I was really looking forward to it.

Just enjoyed our delivery including starters and mains which were absolutely amazing. Quality of food was A+++ South Indian Chili Garlic Chicken was absolutely tasty and my wife loved the Karachi Chicken Tikka. We will definitely order again.

I ordered an indian takeaway from here after having a nightmare indian food from another restaurant. The food arrived on time, and it was delivered to doorstep. The food is not oily or salty, it has the right amount of flavour and texture. I will be ordering from here again.

Brilliant meal and great service. Very clean, very comfortable and very friendly. Well worth a visit.

Booked a table today for 5 adults and one baby, as part of the 50% help to eat out deal. Knew we had to vacate the table by 2 hours. As soon as we sat down, they wanted our drinks order. Hadn’t even had time to look at the menu. Then 5 mins later they wanted our starter and main course order. Again, no time to look at the menu! In a rush to clear our plates, not everyone has finished eating. No small bottles of beer in stock or on tap. No kebabs. Starter and main courses smaller than advertised on their menu - when questioned, they said ‘it’s because of the 50% off’. That’s not how this deal is supposed to work! They are halving their portion sizes as it’s ‘50 % off’ and taking advantage of the governments help. Food also lacking in flavour big time - all tasted very sweet.

Rip off. I spent over £11 on a king prawn curry but it only contained 3 solitary prawns. Called up about it and they said “that’s because king prawns are very expensive”. While that may be true, 3 prawns for £11 is ridiculous!

Can't go wrong here. Good value for money. Tasty food. Not the most cheerful table service but prompt, and on point. Got a good smile once I left a nice tip. All joking aside I love this place and it will be my regular for a while.

I've been eating takeaways from this restaurant for 3 years and food is always great, and have had a meal in twice which was. On both occasions nice, tonight I went in on way home from work for a takeaway and the guy behind the counter treated me like I was dirt, I was clean and sober, I even walked out while waiting for my meal but even when I got back he was rude. I wasn't imaging it. The food was still good but ill go elsewhere if looked down upon like that ever again.

Have eaten there and from there several times. Staff Ore extremely polite and accommodating. Celebrated my birthday there last November. Their Banquet deals Sun-Thurs is really worth checking out. Just ASK and they will do their best to please. 😊

We have had a few takeaways from here over the last 4 years and they have always been delivered promptly with a friendly face and the food has never been disappointing, in fact one of the best curries we have ever had (chicken vindaloo/madras and vegetable dhansak), so we thought it was long overdue that we paid a visit to the restaurant to dine in instead. All staff are very polite, friendly and professional and the restaurant is cosy and clean with a nice atmosphere. The food was excellent, super tasty and good sized portions. Highly recommend!

We get a takeaway from here every week, and always enjoy the food and the reliable delivery, but never thought of leaving a review. However something happened last week that made me really want to tell everybody what a lovely restaurant this is. Unfortunately it started with an error,(very unusual) and a telephone call to complain. The way that it was handled was a lesson in customer service to all businesses, and showed that they appreciate their customers. We will certainly continue to enjoy their lovely food

We are new in the area and we love Indian food. The Star of Spice came up we decided to try out and trust me I have been to many Indian restaurants but this one is top notch, the friendly service and the selections of speciality dishes was superb. Would love to be able to rate the food, but ordered a takeaway via Just Eat which never arrived and was marked delivered after 3 hours. As they clearly can't be trusted you should avoid.

One of the best Biryani I've had in a long long time. I wish I ordered from here sooner! Lovely balance of flavours to the Biryani, it was definitely made with LOVE! The vegetable curry that came with it had lots of cabbage and potato, beautiful! Who ever made this is the real MVP! goddamnnn I'm happy I found a solid place to get my curry fix. The man who delivered my food was also very sweet bless him, he had trouble finding my house but he was so nice and apologetic.

We have always ordered take away when we fancy a Biryani. I love the Biryani it has lots of rich taste and full of flavour. Please add more chicken in it! It would be very favourable if we could exchange the side dish that always comes with the biryani as no one in our family likes the taste of it. They have always delivered in the time scale given. Have been using the Star of Spice and it's previous incarnations for 30 years. The food has for the most part been very good. I personally thought that standards were slipping in the months leading up to the previous owner handing the business over. Under the new owners there was definitely a marked improvement in the standard of the food. The vegetable dishes remain good but for some time no I have had difficulty finding a curry that I enjoy - most of the curries are very red or orange with little noticeable variation in the sauce between different curries and some even taste like a commercial sauce has been used. I have brooches my concerns with the owner but the curries are still not to my taste. Our regular Friday night takeaway was becoming a source of great trouble for me and it is with regret that we have over the past few months been trying to find somewhere else - some have been disappointing or inconsistent but we have found one that suits us better, although this is also not without its problems. So no more Friday night takeaways from Herbert Road - an end of an era. We will still pop in for a sit down meal on family occasions but unless things change we will not be coming back for a takeaway.

We have used star of spice for a long time now-lovely food- and times when we have sat in the restaurant it’s been great. We normally have take aways which we have never been disappointed with! Recommend highly!

Glad you guys have mentioned you are Bangladeshi restaurants than most who say Indian when owners are mostly Bengali’s. The food was fantastic out of the world . The staff their were extremely friendly and welcoming . Will definitely be returning for a brunch again . 5 out of 5 stars .. fantastic

First of all, the food arrived on time! And considering it was a bit of a distance from my house it was still hot. The gentleman who delivered the food was passionate about their restaurant and order, which immediately makes all the difference. Now for the food, I can honestly whole heartedly say that this was the best takeaway curry I have had in a long time! I used to order from a local curry house and thought that was decent, but now that I have tasted this, I will only be ordering from Star of Spice. If you are after an Indian takeaway that feels like high restaurant standard, order from here you won't be disappointed. They even added some refreshing towels with the order as a compliment. High praise, from a food lover. Thank you and I will be ordering from you again.

Food is great here but since they have a new person managing the place, the staff seem to be slacking and the food seems to be a a little bit bad in my opinion.

Hi all, I went to this restaurant for the first time today and I must say the food is brilliant!!!! I’m Indian too so I know my food. This place has the best atmosphere and the staff are so friendly. I had a vindaloo dish and it was mind blowing!!!! This is my first time here and certainly not the last. I will bring my whole family here. It just goes to prove it is all about the food and service. This restaurant is highly recommended.

We went to the Star of Spice in Herbert Rd se18 on Tues. evening, we phoned ahead to book a table for 7 we said it was for a 15th Birthday, they asked if we’d like it decorated and when we arrived there were balloons & banners on the walls and tables and birthday sprinkles on all of our tables. The food was delicious and plentiful, the staff were very attentive and polite, there was a lovely ambiance in the restaurant. We really had a lovely evening Thank you guys👍

This is an exceptional kitchen. The food is always fantastic whether eating in taking out or home delivery. Most frequently enjoying chicken tika dry, sag paneer, mushroom rice, peshwari naan, dahl. This is a great weekly staple. Very healthy and delicious every time. The menu is extensive. The restaurant itself is spotless and very tastefully decorated.. in understated modern way. The staff are friendly and the prices are great. Sometimes you can even get a drop of Sancere at supermarket prices. Plumstead is lucky to have suchva great place to eat. Fantastic.

Pathia was a horrible colour and tasted bland other then the massive amount of chilli powder. Rice was under cooked, naan was nice but too many crunchy bits. Overall not that great. It was better before. I don't think there are any good Indians in the local area, all rather disappointing and lacking flavour or real spice.

This place offers 7 courses for £11.99 or something Sunday-Thursday & the food is lovely and is of high standard. The staff are so friendly and can’t do enough to help you. Will definitely be back as have been before this visit.

I am new to Indian food, so we ordered a lot of different things. Everything we had tasted amazing. The service was friendly, and we felt like they did a great job paying attention to us. My friends who took me are huge fans of Indian food and loved it. Like I said, I am new to it, but everything I had tasted great.

Ordered a takeout meal which I collected and it was ready as we arrived, no waiting 20 minutes as with some other restaurants. The food was great we had tandoori chicken, brinjal bagee, sag aloo, Chana masala and paratha. It was all delicious and have decided this will be my new local Indian restaurant. Staff were polite and friendly and order was correct when collected. Would recommend on the basis of this review.

We are here monthly the food is spot on full of flavours the meat is perfect. I love to eat in its romantic and clean it doesn't feel like your in Plumstead at all. It's the perfect place to relax and enjoy your food. Definitely worth a visit we don't bother with any other place now.

Pedí el "menú de banquetes" de 6 platos y me encantó todo. El pimiento rojo relleno con cordero tikka fue un buen comienzo. Mantequilla de pollo como plato principal con saag como guarnición. Pan y arroz Naan redondearon el orden. Todo fue preparado por expertos y sirvió bien. Los camareros eran profesionales y muy serviciales. Todo lo que todos, una buena elección, y volveré pronto
