I went here for take away. The service isn't great, the food is poor and that's if you actually get what you ordered. And when you call to say they have sent the wrong food, they do nothing to rectify their mistake. Will not be back. And when you want to pay by card, they like a ask do you not have cash in the house? Not great guys.

I recently had the opportunity to dine at Star of Bengal Indian Hotel in Bangor, and unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. While I had high hopes for an authentic Indian culinary experience, I was ultimately disappointed with several aspects of the restaurant. First and foremost, the service was subpar. The staff seemed disinterested and inattentive throughout the evening. It took an excessively long time for our orders to be taken, and we had to repeatedly ask for basic things like water refills. The lack of professionalism and attentiveness greatly affected the overall dining experience. Moving on to the food, I found it to be mediocre at best. The dishes lacked the vibrant flavors and complexity that I associate with Indian cuisine. The portions were also disappointingly small, leaving us feeling unsatisfied. Moreover, the presentation of the food was uninspiring, and the overall quality did not live up to the reputation of Indian cuisine. Another major letdown was the ambiance of the restaurant. The décor felt outdated and tired, lacking the vibrant and inviting atmosphere that one would expect from an Indian establishment. The lighting was dim, and the seating arrangements were cramped, making it difficult to enjoy the meal comfortably. Considering the lackluster service, mediocre food quality, and uninspiring ambiance, I cannot recommend Star of Bengal Indian Hotel as a top dining choice in Bangor. While it may have been popular in the past, it seems that the restaurant is currently failing to deliver a satisfying experience to its patrons.

When we order a keema naan it seems to be just plain mince in it as well which is disappointing. The usual guys who answer the phone are all lovely though.

I visited tonight with my husband and son for the early bird menu as advertised in the Local Shopper as £8.99 Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Then most things we ordered carried a 50p or £1.00 surcharge. When I paid the bill the early bird was £10.95 and with the extra charges could have been ordered off the menu at practically the same price. The charges need to be printed on an early bird menu. We arrived at 5.40 and were greeted by the young waiter asking if we had booked, we replied no, did we need to book, his reply was yes. We were the only 3 in the restaurant until 7.10 when another 4 arrived. The starters were good, the main courses just ok.

Had a table booked for 8pm last Friday night (20 Sept.) for my wife and I and 4 friends. We arrived at one minute to eight to be greeted with a rude and loud, "Your late!" from the person who appeared to be the chef. Somewhat perplexed I replied that we were not late as our table was booked for 8pm. Another member of staff then said our table had been booked for 6.45. Where they had got this from is anybody's guess but rather than accept an error had been made the 3 staff continued to argue and insist we were late. Intriguingly there wasn't even another person in the restaurant at the time. Such was the rudeness of the staff that once we had been shown to a table upstairs and saw the uninviting decor of the place we quickly changed our minds and left the restaurant. This was our first visit to the Star of Bengal and unquestionably our last.

Visited here on Saturday evening, as on our previous visits we had some lovely meals, which offered good value. However, this was not the case on our most recent visit, leading us to believe this restaurant must be under new ownership, as we didn't see any of the previous staff from before. We opted for their offer of £12.95 each for Starter, Main Course and Rice. On arrival we were greeted by a young man and expected to be shown upstairs as per usual, but this appears to be now closed and were shown to a downstairs table. My wife and I both ordered Lamb Tikka starter. Expecting the usual chunks of lamb, which was the norm in this restaurant before and in any others we go to, we received very finely sliced lamb tikka, with side salad. A very miserly portion, (the worst we've probably received in 25 years of eating indian) and not much tikka flavour to lift the gloom. I had also asked for green chillis with the tikka, but didn't receive any. Knowing how good the Lamb Tikka was on previous visits, alarm bells were ringing. Then the main courses came. My wife ordered Chicken Chilli Balti and I had Chicken Tikka Chilli Master. The Balti came in a black sizzling style karahi dish and the Chilli Master in a dish with a lid on it. I could see that my wife's Balti had 4 small pieces of chicken and was in a sea of oil floating on top and I thought, 'Lucky you, glad I didn't order that', until I lifted the lid on mine.......a half filled dish with next to no chicken tikka in it. I poured it out over the rice, (I ordered boiled and received pilau), and it really was the most sorry looking meal I've ever had the dissatisfaction of ordering in my life. The chicken tikka, like the lamb starter, was sliced into thin pieces. I thought they'd forgot to put the chicken in and the slices were either mushroom, (like a pizza topping), or sliced garlic. No, it was indeed the chicken! If you would have stuck the pieces together it would have made around a quarter of small chicken fillet. The young guy came over and asked was everything ok and I told him not really, that there was very little chicken in the dish. He said he would check with the chef. He returned and said the chef said as we had ordered the special, the portions were smaller, to which I enquired where did it say that? The waiter shrugged his shoulders and walked off. If it had said we will charge you £12.95 for a half portion, I would have been sitting in the Green Chilli Restaurant around the corner. As I said before, we have had this offer many times and it was fine, so be warned if you're a previous customer expecting the same, you'll be disappointed! In finishing, I don't understand any business alienating their customers over a bit of cheap chicken, (99p each for a full chicken fillet in my local butchers). Slicing chicken into more pieces does not fool anyone. I have never felt as cheated in a restaurant in a long time, if ever. I don't normally do negative reviews, but had to warn others. We won't be back.

As it was a bad night stormy and raining there weren’t many people In. After we had discussed some of the choices with the waiter and he patiently Explained to us what was in the dishes, we ordered our meals. As the cold beers arrived, so did our meals. We visited Belfast/Bangor for the weekend and really fancied an Indian one of the nights. Star of Bengal got very good reviews so we decided to give it a try. While they have a licence they don't sell alcohol but the owner Sam rang one of his drivers who stopped off at an off licence on his way back from a delivery to pick up a bottle of wine for us!!! Such a nice thing to do. We had a really lovely meal - I had the chicken jalfrezi which was really lovely and my boyfriend had a tandoori sizzler. Everything was really tasty and the bill only came to £30, which was really for as we both had a starter and main each and I also had a tea. We had a nice chat with Sam and Jake who told us that they are renovating the place to facilitate functions and large groups who want a private area. Not the first time order has missed out on items even though they have been paid for very poor service for this reason plus naans have been cold.

Food was lovely but a bit cold by the time it was delivered. A portion of rice was missing also.

Regular here every week , not any more!!!, usually go and collect however got a delivery this week, arrived in good time but food was inedible, Chicken tikka chilli garlic master ( i normally order this dish ) was vile, couple of weeks ago whilst in ordering the guy said he was experimenting adding sweet chutneys to dishes, why??? the food has drastically changed and its not for the better. Onion bhaji was like cardboard, been reheated several times. Honestly the whole lot went in the bin , theres plenty more indians in bangor so why mess about with recipes ?? green chilli next time

Asked for boiled rice as I don't like Pilau rice but they sent the Pilau anyway and I couldn't eat it

We go to the Star of Bengal regularly and couldn't fault this place. Great value for money. Good is great. BYO which cuts the cost of a night out.

The nan bread was extremely salty and inedible and the onion pakora and starter was dry and over done. The food just wasn't as good as it has been - sorry

Last Saturday we dined here for my father's birthday. All i can say is wow! The service was quick and the food was sensational. My father doesn't usually eat Indian food, but he loved it. They brought his birthday cake out with candles and just made the birthday celebration even better. Will definitely be back! :)
