Dirty dirty restaurant This place is in need if a full renovation. The outside looks awful, enter inside the place is no better a fish tank that is full of black dirty water. MANAGER VERY RUDE, we was a large party of 10, he did not give one of us eye contact nore a hello or thank you. Just told constantly stared at our children if they made a murmur. He treats his staff like something on the bottom of his shoe, shows no respect to staff or customers. Food was just ok nothing fantastic, definitely not worth the price you pay. Definitely will not he returning, neither will any of my family members. The manager needs to learn some basic customer service skills. AND CLEAN THAT FILTHY FISH TANK

Visited before and good. Unfortunately not this time. We both had bad, upset tummies within a short time of leaving. Service was rude and very overpriced food. £8.50 for a bowl of slushy vegetables! Fish was old and frozen.

Visited this restaurant for the first time a couple of months ago, thought the food was delicious but who I presume was the owner was a very rude, ignorant man. I felt sorry for the waitress as the way he spoke to her was awful, if it hadn't been for her who was such a lovely friendly girl I don't think we would have bothered to go back. Have just been again tonight, unfortunately the waitress who was there previously was not working so had the same rude man serving us. He really needs to go on a customer service course I think. It seems that the only time he is nice to people is if they are regulars. Me and my friends will certainly not be spending our money in his restaurant again that's for sure which is a shame as the food is nice.

Visited this restaurant with some friends from work last week. Upon entering we felt very unwelcome the staff were miserable and the manager very rude it was like pulling teeth out to get a response from him I can't understand why they bother to run a restaurant when they don't appreciate having customers in to spend their money. They are lucky to be busy nowadays. The food was OK but they don't go overboard with it. My friend asked the manager if he could pass her coat as he was right next to the coat stand and all she got was NO!! I'm beginning to wonder if he can speak English as it was the only word he could say maybe I should excuse him... but I won't be going back

The owner was ignorant. No eye contact. No welcome or thank you. We was made to feel unwelcome.

Went here for a my birthday, starter was really good. Sweet and sour was very good. We had chicken in this gravy sauce dish which was awful and slimy, and the chicken curry was terrible. No coffee or deserts and no one even asked. Seemed a rush to get up out . The owner never even spoke. Won’t be returning or recommending average food at expensive price.

The staff are rude and unwelcoming. Didn’t even get a hello. Told they cannot cater for Nut Allergy, even though it’s the law to display the known allergens. Obviously no restaurant can guarantee Nut free food and it is consumed at your own risk which I agree with. However it’s fairly easy to prep a fried rice and duck with no nut oil. I manage to eat it every week from my local takeaway. Completely unhelpful and dismissive. So many people told me to avoid this place but I thought I’d give it a go. They were not wrong!!

One of the better Asian restaurants in the area but their team definitely need to learn how to speak to customers. I have noted their manners are better when speaking to certain skin colour though

During the meal we asked if it would be possible to get some milk for the baby and were just bluntly told that no - they don’t have milk (bit odd for a restaurant). After the meal whilst waiting for the bill, we asked whether they had any fortune cookies and again was bluntly told no. (Same answer at the start when we asked for prawn crackers). Whilst leaving, I noticed the fish-tank and I actually felt sorry for the fish. The tank was filthy, looked like it hadn’t been cleaned for a year! So in summary, yes the food is nice (not great, but nice) but if you want a restaurant which makes you feel welcome and that your custom is valued, avoid this one. We certainly won’t ever be going back…

Nice place to visit. Lovely food and nice portion size.

Very disappointing! Ordered 2 VEGETARIAN vermicelli which said "slightly spicy ". After a few mouthfuls we discovered strips of pork and shrimps. Obviously not vegetarian. Communication error between chef and waitress. Imagine having a severe nut allergy and eating a meal containing nuts! The vegetarian vermicelli came 5 mins later but was extremely spicy. Far too much tongue burning chilli despite it saying "slightly" spicy. I guess the chef just quickly threw anything in to rectify the original mistake. We were past caring at this stage. No chance of a good meal and experience. So quite a disaster all round. Wasn't offered anything by way of compensation. Stanley's had been on my list to eat in for as long as I've lived in Hessle. Apart from the ambience which was OK I cannot recommend this restaurant whatsoever.

This place really is excellent! We had such a wonderful evening. The food was exceptional. There was 6 of us and we all ordered a different main, each dish was delicious. The staff couldn’t have made us feel anymore welcome and went over and above to ensure we had everything we needed. We will definitely become regular diners here. Thank you 😊

Normally set meals seem to be made up of stuff that doesn't sell to well, here is definitely not like that! The food is outstanding without the overwhelming hit of MSG that goes with some Chinese restaurants. The staff and service at this place are excellent and the food comes out exactly on time. Stanley restaurant is a higher end establishment with an excellent atmosphere. The menu is quite contemporary and the food is very well presented. A person would not be disappointed by a visit here

Visited here with friends on Saturday evening & was greeted by a very sour faced gentleman (I assume he was the owner) who looked us all up & down & then grunted “yeah?” at us!! ( No hello or good evening ladies) My friend told him we’d booked a table & with no acknowledgement from him whatsoever he walked away. At that point one of the waitresses appeared where she was told by him what table we were on. We were quickly ushered through to the restaurant area to be seated. We did mention to one of the waitresses later that we felt he’d been quite rude to us on our arrival. Apparently this is the norm for him. The food was amazing, the waiting staff were so friendly, nothing was too much trouble for them & so helpful with us in making our food choices. These girls are an absolute credit to the owner who in his capacity as the ‘manager/owner’ should definitely take a leaf out of their book & practice far better customer service. Even on leaving that night he happened to be stood outside having a chat & a smoke with some people I assume had eaten there that evening. He turned to see us walking out & again didn’t acknowledge us or say goodbye or even a polite thank you for visiting !! You would think that considering we’d spent quite a bit of money in his restaurant that he would have at least been polite with us. He may well have been having a bad day but that shouldn’t reflect on how he treats his customers. I would love to have given 5 stars for this place but I’m afraid we won’t be visiting again to put money in his pocket after the way we felt we’d been treated! Shame on you Stanley!!!

Ignore recent reviews!! We live in Hessle and have visited Stanley's a couple of times now. On both occasions the food has been outstanding, great value and brilliant portion size and flavour. The owner is friendly as long as you're friendly to him which isn't too hard to do. It seems other reviewers seem to have taken things a bit personally as anyone who knows Chinese food will know this place is the real deal. Look forward to visiting again, keep up the great work!

Slightly difficult to contact and book a big table for a prty but amazing food and serice

While the food was great, the gentleman who greeted us was offhand from the moment we arrived until we left. There only was us and another table dining the whole time we were there. Will not be back. Never asked us if we enjoyed the meal, or thanked us. Very rude man.....the girl serving was lovely....shame

Best Chinese in area. It's still the best as of February 2022. October 2023, as good as previously, had an excellent meal.

Excellent service! The owner was very friendly and accommodating. Amazing quality food and great prices! The young waitress was super lovely and very attentive! Highly recommend and definitely coming back! I felt bad I did not leave tips for every staff member!

Very tasty we had a take out me and hubby had fillet steak chow main, portion of chips, and a portion of mushrooms which was very tasty I have recommended to family and friends I will be back soon

Service good, but food average. Not much more to say about the restaurant. I am not saying it will stop us going back again, but not somewhere we would go for a special occasion.

We last came here in February of 2022. A spur of the moment choice which we were very thankful for. We came this time, on a Sunday evening for a friend's birthday. I'd booked a table weeks ago, but, thankfully, the restaurant was very quiet. It had been a very warm summers day and we were all very grateful for the air con! We'd already decided to have the mixed platter of starters, so we all had just one item of each. This was priced at £8.50 per head. In hindsight, we'd order differently next time. We all agreed that the star of the platter was the prawn toast. Thick bread topped with very meaty prawns, and very thickly covered unlike a lot of places. We all agreed that was the best starter. We all ordered different mains, I had the sweet and sour king prawns, others had shredded beef, honey and garlic chicken, sweet and sour chicken and char sui pork (I think). We also ordered sides of plain noodles (with onion and bean sprouts) and egg fried rice. The portions were very fresh, plentiful, and arrived quickly. There were left overs (non of us like food waste), so these were boxed up for us to take home. The service, well, what a character Stanley is! Lovely chap, affable and charming. We were served by his daughter too. Very polite and charming, not invasive, just right. It was a perfect evening at Stanley's. The only off putting thing is the buckets of cigarette ends at the door from the car park. That area just needs a bit of a tidy up. The interior of the restaurant is lovely but that's the only thing that lets this fantastic Chinese down.

Stanley himself took my order did not make any eye contact when taking our order was more interested in anything else. He was rude to his staff barking orders and shouting at them who I felt sorry for as ironically they were more welcoming than him . Atmosphere felt cold and unwelcoming... Didn't get my order right gave me lemon chicken rather than orange, took it back into the kitchen and fobbed me off by just pouring orange sauce on the lemon chicken lol... Told them to do the whole dish. Starters were good that's it

Went here with the family for a birthday meal. Wasn't impressed when I walked in the place is filthy! The chap behind the bar was abrupt and ignorant. Young waiteres was friendly and pleasant though. All of us got something different and nobody really enjoyed there meals. Not a pleasant experience and won't be going back.

Quite possibly the worst restaurant I have ever visited, the owner is horrific with service and does not care about his customers. I brought my young son and was told he ‘best not get in the way’ upon first coming into the restaurant. Filthy place and food tasted like rats. Go to a more local authentic place where they actually want your money.

Went for meal last night. On arrival, the manager/owner ignored us then abruptly and quite rudely marched us to a table and slapped menus on the table. We waited a good 20 minutes to order food or drink, bear in mind there were only 3 tables other than ours at this stage. We ordered one of the banquet menus and waited another half hour for the starters to arrive. In the meantime we had a heat tray and a dish of dipping sauce delivered but nothing to dip in it. Eventually starters arrived and we asked for prawn crackers to dip in the sauce which the other diners had all had. The starters were very nice. We then waited half an hour for the next course. Again it was nice. The mains eventually came but the beef was slimy and chewy in one of the dishes. By now with dreadful service, rude staff and having been there nearly 3 hours because of slow service, we paid the bill. Before leaving we paid a visit to the bathroom and we’re disgusted by the state of all 3 toilets. Clearly someone was very unwell and had used all the loos without cleaning up after themselves. We were almost sick at this sight. There were dead bugs on the floor too. All in all we will never go back.

The food here is always good. We have been on many occasions over the years. I rang the restaurant to book and to explain it was my mother in laws 85th birthday and that she would be in a mobility scooter. I asked if they could accommodate and they said yes. We were greeted by Stanley himself who took the booking, he was rude and abrupt with us, saying that he was busy and the table he booked for us was in the far cornerand the chair wouldn't get through ! The restaurant is great, Caroline is fab with customers as is his staff, but Stanley made us feel unwelcome and uncomfortable.

Took the family to Stanley’s restaurant tonight to celebrate my daughter’s 50th birthday and l must say the food was excellent all round and also the service was first class ! And to be honest the price was very reasonable too so l will definitely be returning again and thank you Stanley, well done . Great night.

We booked a table of 14 for ours Mum/Grans 80th, we had read all the reviews about lovely food but not great service but still decided to try Stanley’s. Once the table was booked I emailed to explain my young Son is unable to eat diary/lactose/soy, which I appreciate is tricky to cater for - so I asked for their options and said if they could not do anything would it be ok if I brought him a pack up. I was told no, they could not cater for him as Saturdays are too busy and no he could not bring a pack up. After my reply email asking why was ignored, my Dad called to speak to them. He was told it is their policy ‘no external food’ is to be brought into the restaurant. He once again explained its not just someone brining food in, it is a child who has serious allergies and wants to be part of his Great Grans 80th celebrations, he also pointed out we have asked for you to provide the food and you refused. They had absolutely no interest in wavering so he could attend, they had to sympathy for his issues which we all wish we did not have to think about when going out - but unfortunately we do. So naturally, I have called the next Chinese around (Wok So Ever in Cottingham) and their lovely Manager is more than happy for us to bring our own allergies safe food in and welcomed our party of 14 with a accommodating and understanding attitude. Stanley’s you should be ashamed of your pure ignorance to some peoples situations and do not deserve our custom.

Fantastic food that is probably some of the best Chinese food I have ever had! We had the set menu and it was delicious from start to finish! My favourite being the sweet and sour chicken!

If you want Basil Faulty service at rip off prices then this is the place for you. Felt sorry for his staff had to smuggle a sympathy tip to them out of sight of owner who has zero idea of customer service. The food is just ok and I can only think people go here for comedy value.

The manager and owner has no connection or understanding of customer service - rude and arrogant. Felt sorry for the staff - food was ok but cost was ridiculous. Toilets ingested and freezing and in a state of disrepair. Comedy to some extent but was supposed to be having a nice meal and evening out.

Nice food and good service although it started to suffer when it got busy as there was the possible owner and one lady serving. Would recommend this restaurant just go a bit earlier before it fills up.

I went here with my family for my bday celebrations after reading all the positive reviews and wished I’d never went. The owner, Stanley was arrogant and just seemed plain rude from the moment we walked in. We went there with our young children, oldest was 12 and the youngest was 3 and as soon as he saw us, his face just turned sour. My children throughout the night were very well behaved but it did seem like we were walking around egg shells every time my 3 year old started talking in case it upset the owner. The atmosphere was unpleasant and I felt awful just being there and even at one point saying to my husband we should just walk out after the starters. Overall the food was nice but the atmosphere and welcome we received was awful. Never had this experience in a restaurant before.

We were there tonight 18th September with a table for 8 in the window table, lots of food and brilliant as well , staff and owner excellent used to go a lot but after tonight will start to go more again- Superb, great food and service.

Bad service from the manager he was very moody and no manners . we were seated at the window which was Filthy the windowsill was disgusting Looks like it hadn't been dusted let alone cleaned for weeks . Its a shame as the food was lovely we wont be going back.

Telephone earlier in the day to make a reservation same day , male answered and abruptly ended the call stated could not her me. I called back , booked a table , male was abruptly questioned tonight ? As if they were full . We arrived at the restaurant on time , it was completely empty, male eventually met us in the corridor didn’t ask for our name or give us eye contact, took us straight to a table in the window. Throw down two menu and left .. yes throw down . At this point we were considering leaving , the restaurant smelt , I can not explain , restaurant looked clean but smelt “drainy “ . The male who I now know is the owner , came back asking “ want drink” we asked for a few minutes more he left in such a manner we both felt uncomfortable. We decided to leave then . He did even ask us why we was leaving just let us go . We felt really saddened, the restaurant has been in Hessle a long time was really looking forward to eating there . I can not comment on the food , service and atmosphere was horrible. The fish tank in the corridor was so dirty I felt sore for the fish , they look neglected. Regarding the male who was working that night . I really hope he ok , he need a big hug . We will never try Stanley’s again negative atmosphere.

Ive been to Stanleys with family a few times now. This is a fantastic restaurant with lovely fresh food. The standard is very good and the staff are efficient and always helpful. Xx

Workers aren’t allowed there tips and boss is arrogant

Ran in after 10pm hoping for a late minute meal and was offered a takeaway and a drink. Really accommodating because the kitchen was closing. Absolutely lovely food. Can’t wait to go back a little earlier and dine in. Thanks very much!

Excellent food, you wont be dissapointed. Always hot and fresh. We use it more for takeaways. Unfortunately the manager/owner is such a grump. We where sat talking to a couple who was saying the same to us about him and how they had just witnessed...

We would have given this five stars - the food is truly wonderful, Chinese cuisine at its best (try the salt and pepper fillet steak with mushrooms) and Peroni beer on tap - what's not to like? But the owner is moody and it spoils...

First time we have been here. From the front the restaurant looks nice but from the car park it looks terrible. Rubbish strewn and back of the building grotty which gives a bad impression. Inside was nice. The atmosphere was lacking - dreadful loud nightclub...

Friendly owner and a lovely atmosphere. Easy to get to with parking to the rear. A lovely range of food is on offer, from the classics to some fancier dishes. There's some nicely thought out banquets with a good variety of meals and the owner is always accommodating. It's a nice place for a quiet date or a work night out!

Phoned in for a takeaway yesterday evening for 4 persons. Was ready exactly on time and everything tasted fantastic, yet at very acceptable prices. Can recommend Stanleys to anyone.

My favourite restaurant in this country, only beaten by a couple in Taiwan and one in Canada. The only problem is finishing the meal because they do not skimp out on the dishes, I have never left hungry.

We used to come here 5+ years ago and loved it, its unusual menu options were fantastic and we liked the service. The experience today was abysmal! The place looked dirty and smelt of second hand smoke and the welcome from the manager was terrible. There was only one other table in there on a Sunday evening and they were complaining about missing food and the wait. We left and the manager did not care about our feedback, he just shrugged and walked off. Avoid!

The food was really good, and I think for the price we paid it was definitely worth every penny.We had a problem with the booking, I messaged them on Facebook to book the table and when we got there we weren't booked in which could have ruined the night. They fit us in though and the rest of the service we received was excellent.

I have recently written a review about this place but I would like to update it following a very recent visit.Previously I did say that the food was excellent and so it was on the second visit. I said that the place was cold and the owner was even colder. I mentioned that it was cool and he promptly put up the heating. And lastly I had misjudged the owner as being rude and arrogant but on getting to know him better he is just very dry. He has an amazing sense of humour and very entertaining. So, I apologise for what I said about him and to prove that he can smile here is the photo of him with my cousin.

We visited for the first time.. it was very good. Staff were lovely very friendly and welcoming. The manager engaged with us and made us very welcomed. The food was absolutely delicious, one of the best places we've been to in a very long time! Will be visiting again very soon!!!

Been a few times and food is very nice. Good quality and good portions. Waiting girls are very efficient and friendly. On the flip side Stanley always seems in a bad mood and doesn't make you feel welcome when you arrive and no prawn crackers while you wait. 10p item makes everyone happy!
