Stables Groomsport in North Down

Decided to give this restaurant a visit, hoping it had changed somewhat from previous years..and boy, what a difference!!!!!! The food was excellent, the staff were so attentive and the new decor was beautiful. So in 4 words... I will be back!

Would highly recommend everyone to try the Stables in Groomsport. We went for lunch last Tuesday to celebrate my Dad's big birthday! Lunch was fantastic and all the staff (especially Angie) looked after us really well and nothing was too much trouble. We will be returning very soon and hoping this will be a regular family outing for us. Well done toThe Stables!

Just back from our third meal here in five weeks. I think that says it all!! The first two were with friends and this evening with family. Indeed from the moment we arrive it actually feels like we are family to this wonderful establishment. A genuinely warm greeting on arrival which makes us feel valued and relaxed. Honestly you would be hard pressed to get any friendlier staff than here. Just lovely people. The food is outstanding and close to perfection. Since the Carmichaels took over again in January The Stables has just gone up market in every way but at affordable prices. It is hard to choose any other place to go because of the value they put on the customer here and the quality of the food. There are a lot of young staff just being trained and they also were so sweet. The Carmichaels have chosen their staff with care. We love the way the more experienced staff members gently and respectively guide the new young staff members along. So in summation. Wonderful restaurant. Super friendly staff. Top quality food at great prices. If you want fantastic food and want to feel that you matter then this is the place for you. Our number one go to restaurant. Fabulous restaurant, absolutely beautiful, great views of the sea, such friendly staff, fab food and can't wait to be back! I live 2 hours away and my visit was well worth the journey. Highly recommend ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

And it's just as well I didn't stick to that thought! For context, my fiancée and I last tried The Stables under the previous ownership and heartily declared that we wouldn't be back after a diabolical meal. Fast forward and The Stables has been transformed under the stewardship of The Carmichael's who have been providing quality dining across various locations for decades. So when my parents brought us last night I went with some trepidation and some excitement. I needn't have been worried. The refit has been well thought out and the place looks fantastic. But it's all about the food isn't it? Again fantastic. Between us we had steak sandwiches, duck, and nutty chicken. Nobody was disappointed and plates were cleared. And then came the choux bun with ice cream and butterscotch sauce.....oh my word! I'll be thinking of that dessert for a good while! And finally you can add into the mix the level of service not often seen at this tier of the sector, friendly, attentive, but not overbearing. To the owners and management (and indeed all the staff).....you have taken a place that many thought would see it's doors closed for good after so many years, and you have given it an entirely new lease of life. Well done to all...we are already plotting our return!

We were excited to hear that the restaurant had been re-opened and couldn’t wait to visit. We had a lovely table near the window in the conservatory section of the restaurant. Although the restaurant was extremely busy, staff were very friendly and attentive. I had the Brie wedges to start which were delicious followed by the chicken stack with mash. My husband had the salt and chilli squid and the steak sandwich. It was empty plates all around! It’s hard to believe that we had our wedding reception in the private room at the Stables 23 years ago. We can’t wait to return again.

Our first visit to the Stables under the new management. It has been totally refurbished and is now beautifully decorated with stunning colours and materials. The staff were friendly and professional and the service was outstanding. The menu was varied with a good selection to choose from and cooked perfectly. The atmosphere was great and it was good to see it so busy, we will definitely be returning.

Had a delightful family meal here. Service was so friendly, helpful and attentive. Excellent children’s menu and the main menu had such a great range. Catered really well for coeliacs and cannot wait for our next visit!

Recently refurbished restaurant to a high standard wouldn’t expect anything less from legends in the Hospitality industry, Ian and Keith Carmichael were both in attendance, as owners who always have their establishments well staffed with good management this was definitely evident , my wife and I enjoyed a really good Sunday lunch to begin we had a warm Duck salad and deep fried Brie both good portions, for main course I opted for the Turbot with fennel croquettes, parisienne of carrots with an exceptional fish bone butter sauce , my wife also had the Duck salad as her main course , we also had a bottle of Sauvignon blanc £22, starters were priced £8.95 while my Turbot was a good value £21 , I would definitely recommend a visit to the Stables , I would advise booking in advance it’s unsurprisingly busy 👍👨🏻‍🍳

First visit since the new owners took over on our date night! What a wonderful experience, welcomed by Ian who arranged a few drinks at the bar then had the most amazing 3 course meal that exceeded all our expectations. Chicken Liver Parfait & Salt n Chilli squid for starters were just fantastic, followed by the lovely scampi & quite simply the best steak sandwich I’ve ever had, the smell of the chargrilled steak before taking the first bite was just fantastic! Service was 1st class from all members of staff who couldn’t have done more for us they are a credit to the business. Have already booked Sunday lunch so the rest of the family can enjoy. Highly recommend a visit as you will not be disappointed. 5x⭐️👏🥩🍷

Called in today about 12 on the off chance they could squeeze us in as the car park has been packed every time we drive past, luckily Ian sorted us out with a great table by the window. We only wanted a light snack and decided to share the wraps Duck and the Advacodo/ Halloumi wow so 😋 tasty. Presentation was amazing and a marked improvement on one previously served on day 2 but everyday is a school day and I can see a vast improvement. Attentive service as ever and staff very friendly. Warm welcome and great to have Ian back. First met 32 years ago and came for a light bite. Friendly, attentive staff. Lovely atmosphere and tranquil surroundings. Will certainly be back.

Have been looking forward to returning to The Stables since it re-opened in Feb 24. Was a top quality experience & had a lovely afternoon dinner. The service was the best with lovely staff, Ian was so friendly. They all went out of their way to make it an enjoyable experience. I had the breaded Brie Wedges for starters that were delicious. My main was the famous crispy nutty chicken. This did not disappoint, and we shared a lovely pavlova & cappuccinos to finish. Loved the new decor too. We have been going here since the late 1990’s & look forward to many return visits.

Had heard great things about this place on social media, so had to give it a try on St Patrick’s night before heading into Bangor. The staff were great. Friendly, attentive and accommodating. The decor was impressive and the ambience spot-on for a casual/family dining experience. The food was excellent and really good value for money, which is a rare combination these days, but a couple of dishes deserve special mention. The honey chilli chicken is the best I’ve ever tasted. Great portion, prepared beautifully and absolutely full of flavour. In my haste to get stuck-in I forgot to snap a photo. The triple cooked chips were great too. The apple and rhubarb crumble with custard on the specials menu was indescribably good also. It was going down a storm with the other diners, so much so I just managed to get the last portion. Looking forward to returning very soon to sample some of the other dishes. I can highly recommend The Stables in Groomsport.

Discovered the fabulous Stables today.We did not have a booking but the manager greeted and made us feel very welcome. He brought us to a beautifully decorated seating area where we absorbed the atmosphere while watching the polite and excellent staff attend to customers. Our food was divine. We both had scampi cooked to perfection. I would thoroughly recommend the Stables experience.Amazing.

Went yesterday (Saturday 16th) for lunch, we hadn't booked and we were told it would be a half hour wait, after 10 minutes we were seated. I've been wanting to try here since it reopened and I was not disappointed. I had the seafood chowder and it was definitely one of the best I've ever had,for dessert I had the lemon tart. Portions were a good size and reasonably priced. The staff are very helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Service was fast even though the place was very busy.

We visited the Stables tonight with friends - great new look and extremely attentive staff. Fantastic buzz about the place and the food choice and quality was amazing. I have seen some comments about price but to be honest everywhere has had to increase charges and you don't mind paying for food of a high standard. We will definitely be back and great to see the Stables up and running again.

Elvis may have left the building on Friday 8 March, BUT thank goodness the Carmichaels are back to stay! A massive thank you to Ian, Gareth and every single member of staff for making this such a brilliant party for Betty’s 90th. We were given the conservatory for this special event. Everything about it was perfect , but I was particularly impressed when a member of staff came to speak personally to a guest with a nut allergy. I have no hesitation in recommending this venue for a party. Four days later I was back for a birthday dinner with my little 9 year old grandson across from Scotland. Again, every member of staff was so pleasant and helpful. A lovely atmosphere in the restaurant and the children’s menu was the best I have seen in a long time. It won’t be long till I find another excuse to return!

Headed to The Stables, Groomsport for dinner last Friday evening, our first time since it's reopening. Ian, Keith and the team did a great job. From an attentive meet & greet, to great menu choices and most importantly delicious food. A great venue, and based on how busy it was (table booking highly recommended), being enjoyed by all. I'm really glad to see The Stables open again. The setting looking out to sea is lovely and the newly refurbished restaurant and interior was needed, and now creates an airy and relaxed atmosphere. A new set of menus sets the tone for a lovely meal along with a friendly and welcoming staff who offer a quick and efficient service. My wife and I called in at lunchtime on a Friday and were shown to our table, though we were advised to book ahead in future. All good signs so far as the room was beginning to fill. We chose a chicken caesar salad and an open prawn salad and were pleasantly surprised at how generous were the helpings. Our meals were lovely and nicely presented showing that they were created with care and attention to detail. It is quite a few years since we were at The Stables, but it will not be too long before we are back

Stopped for a lunchtime snack and it was really lovely. Despite being busy the staff were friendly, efficient and made us feel special. Will be back to have a meal soon

Enjoyed a delicious lunch in a comfortable and stylish setting. My elderly companion was greeted and treated royally. Staff were friendly, efficient and caring, to the extent that a young waitress helped cut up my friend's lemon tart for her. We will definitely be back.

Ate here tonight for the first time and really enjoyed the food and the service. Highly recommend this restaurant if you are in the area.

First impressions of the new set up. Fresh new decore gives a warm welcoming feel to such a prime site on the beautiful groomsport coast line. Then a very well presented friendly staff that clearly had a degree of training on service and attention to detail. The food presentation was impressive and certainly tasted as good as it looked . You can clearly see the Carmichael Influence and its great to see. Would highly recommend a try you'll not be disappointed.

This has recently been bought over and reopened. You can definitely see the difference. Its all redecorated beautifully. The restaurant used to be cold, not today. Food was lovely and the puddings were tasty. Plenty of staff who greeted you as you entered and thanking you as you left. Really pleasant experience.

The Carmichaels are a cut above the rest. My expectations were high and I wasn't disappointed. Service was excellent. Food hot, tasty & well presented. We had 1 starter between 3 & 3 main courses. Starter: squid was delicious Mains we had plaice, nutty chicken & honey chilli chicken which were all very good. Salad accompanyment and fries were great too. Gareth the manager was attentive, chatty & couldn't make us feel more important. Scott (previously Bangor Golf Club) was excellent as always. Lovely location beside the beach. It was very, very busy however we were not made to feel rushed.

arrived here on a very wet saturday night. were welcomed and seated promptly.all six adults had chicken/beef burger which were well stacked and really tasty. two kids meals also were good size portions.staff were efficient and welcoming.would go back.

Food was very average. Nothing to shout about. Chunky chips were slightly burnt on the outside, not crispy, and a bit hard on the inside. Sizzler was very average. The place needs a good deep clean and updating, I won't be returning.

Some would say two out of three decent meals would be good but the third left a bad experience. If a named ingredient in the dishes description isn't going to be served surely you should be told when ordering. Bit of a mix up

I am currently living in Canada but originally from Bangor. Have been back to Bangor on many occasions for vacations. Sunday, August 20, approximately 7pm we decided to go out for dinner…..party of four. Decided to go to the Stables’. Had been many times before on previous vacations! What a huge disappointment………parking lot was not busy…….walked in the front door, waiter came over immediately “we’re not taking any more customers…….had about 150 tables today and are running out of food “. To say I was surprised by his attitude is an understatement!!! Not only by his arrogance, but what kind of restaurant turns customers away…..they had plenty of tables but no food!!!!!! Most disappointing what kind of reputation does this restaurant expect……..my family members will certainly never go there and will never recommend it!!! Couldn’t be more disappointed!!

Out for a drive through the County Down Coastline. Stopped at The Stables, in the small town of Groomsport, around tea time . No prebooking made. Was able to accommodate straight away. Staff were very helpful. Starter and mains only ordered. Portions are very generous, especially side orders. Could easily split the portions between two people. No desserts ordered. Wine by the bottle definitely gone up in price!!

One sticky toffee pudding between us and two coffees to compliment.. We were asked, 'Will you be back?' ... I replied, 'A very definite yes!' Food and service excellent...but, oh oh, before we even sat down, the question was asked ...'can I get you a drink?'.
