Went for lunch last Saturday (Dec '18) for our annual day out. We have been here for a few years now and have always been really pleased but not this time. There were very few customers in but none the less we had to wait a long time on service. We ordered drinks which Took forever to arrive, we ordered seafood chowder as a starter and again it took a long time to arrive. When it did, it was luke warm but we ate it as the thought of having it reheated again and waiting even longer was too much. The main course did arrive promptly but I think it was only because I complained. Was so disappointed as it was such a wet cold day and we had so looked forward to our day out. Might need to change venue next year.

We traveled to this restaurant through a tremendous rainstorm for a quick evening meal prior to seeing Kevin Bridges. I had an excellent pint of Guinness with a decent sized bowl of chowder, which was spot on for dealing with the cold wet night. My wife, Pat, had a good burger with great crispy chips. Our problem was with the rainstorm and having to go to the SSE Arena, hopefully without getting soaked. The staff were exceptional in trying to get us a taxi, on a night when everyone needed one to travel even short distances, if you were going to stay dry. They even involved other diners and though we had to cut our stay short (a taxi was imminent) we would highly recommend George's and, in particular, the staff!

Myself and 3 friend dined here on Saturday. The staff were excellent. We were going to the 'David Bowie Experience' and on entering the manageress was really pleasant and chatty and when we said where we were going she put David Bowie music on in the background. We had one very young waiter who although this was clearly his first job was really helpful and pleasant and friendly. We had a lot of queries and he went out of his way to be helpful and always with a smile. He made a slight error in our order and the manageress gave us a complimentary bottle of wine. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. One of my friends had the battered fish and she said it was the best fish she had eaten, ever! The only thing that was good about out Sunday brunch was the excellent table service. That said the coffees given to our waiter to bring to the table were cold and had to be replaced. The eggs were terrible. I ordered that my poached egg not be done with vinegar but it was and had to be redone. My wife’s egg was supposed to be fried but scrambled was what she got. They forgot to add the baked tomato’s which then arrived late. We were uncomfortable having to complain so many times. We think this cafe may be sitting on its laurels and may have become complacent.

I informed our server the pre theatre menu didn't suit us, as they only offered 3 starters and 3 mains, none of which looked appealing. We enquired as to the main menu which looked good, but were more or less told, take it or leave, so we left......absolutely appalling customer service and not prepared to go the extra mile.

Away they went and came about 5 minutes later with the extra eggs slightly undercooked. 3 of us ordered tea and a pot of tea arrived. When the bill arrived we had been charged £1for each of the extra eggs. The pot of tea was charged at 3 X £2.50(£7.50). Overall it was a very disappointing and expensive visit and not one which we'll be repeating any time soon

We enjoy St Georges Market and love to take visitors and friends there, often stopping somewhere in the area for something to eat. So disappointed on Sunday morning by the appalling service in the restaurant - we waited 15 minutes for a table - fair enough as the place was busy - but as our prospective table was cleared we watched in dismay as another couple skipped in ahead of us and sat down! I expected the waitress standing by the table to point out it was already allocated to us but no, she just said "Sorry" and shrugged her shoulders at us. I had already observed two different diners complain at the till about the poor service and one other go to the bar to collect drinks he had been clearly waiting some time for. Meanwhile two waitresses scrabbled over menus to hand to new diners. Poor service, looked like no-one was really in charge. Disappointing...

I only leave bad reviews when I feel they are absolutely necessary... And this is absolutely necessary. We visited George's for breakfast on a Sunday morning. The restaurant was busy, yes. But I don't think it was overwhelmingly so, and there were quite a few staff on board. We were seated by a friendly looking waiter. Then it turned bad from there. The rudest waitress practically barked at us for our orders, which was a bit startling but we laughed it off. After a bit of a wait, our food came. They forgot one of our drinks, so we asked for it again. The food was nice. The bacon is very tasty, and we enjoyed our breakfasts just fine. When we asked for the bill, the cranky blonde waitress practically slammed it down on the table in passing and muttered a low 'Thanks' as she stomped off.Yes, it's a nice restaurant in a beautiful setting, overlooking the market.Yes, the food is nice and yes, the prices are pretty reasonable as far as city centre eating goes. But that waitresses rude demeanour, which could almost be called hostility, would put me off ever visiting this restaurant again.I've worked in customer service... It's not very hard to smile and not scare the customers.

If you get a balcony seat the views over the market are so cool!Sins: Small things that could have improved the visit - when we asked for tea it took ages to come and when we eventually asked about it the waitress Said "yeah we're really getting hammered here". Hmm..that's not the right answer haha! - the cups for our tea weren't the cleanest.. in my book that's unforgiveable - food took a good long while to come to us- getting the attention of staff was Nigh on impossible. And I saw a young waitress dancing and messing around and an older chap gently wiping a surface at his leisure.. so I ain't buying the "hammered" excuse for it.. they didn't have an interest.- Food was a wee bit dear for what ya get.

It appears that they ran out of burgers...which is fine, but why didn't they tell us this was the situation and either offer an alternative or at least tell us there would be a delay? I understand that sometimes there can be problems in the kitchen... but the lack of communication with customers was unforgivable. Our waitress walked past us dozens of times and could see how frustrated we were, but never communicated to us the reason for the delay. Definitely not going back.

I visited George's last Saturday for a fry. The food was so fresh and tasty I will definitely be back. It's nothing like your usual greasy spoon fry! I would recommend George's of the Market for brunch or dinner.

Had lunch in this restaurant while visiting Belfast. The food was very good and plenty I had poached eggs and bacon and my son had the salmon and cheese both dishes were very tasty we had a table that looked out on to the market. The staff were polite and helpful. It's worth a visit as the food is good and not too expensive.

I have lived in Belfast now for 8 years and love going to the market on a Saturday morning, having my breakfast, leisurely wandering around the stalls and finishing it off with a bit of lunch. The people who own the stalls are friendly and knowledgeable and more than happy to stop and have a conversation with you.

This is one of my favourite spots to eat in Belfast. The food is always great and the staff are always friendly. We visited the Saturday market yesterday and were really ravenous by 11.30 am. Hubby had the fish and chips - the fish was tasty and the batter golden, crisp and light. The chips (enough for 2 people) were PERFECT - crispy on the outside and fluffy within. But I did even better - I had the pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. These were the best pancakes I've ever had - buttery & fluffy with a generous serving of tasty bacon and when I drizzled on the maple syrup and took my first bite I was in food heaven. And all the while the lovely waitress kept the coffee refills coming...It was also great value for money. We will keep coming back ...

The evening sarted off well with a warm welcome and a great starter. The seafood chowder was to die for! Then in got a little busier and we ordered a second drink - which two promptings to arrive. The main course was disapointing both my pasta and my husbands mixed grill were slightly overcooked. The atmosphere and decor were lovely

Despite having been here before and receiving poor service we thought we'd give it another go and bring our 4 English guests with us. Despite arriving 15 minutes after it opened the food wasn't overly warm. More shocking is that for £2.50 you receive a teabag in a cup ( a 50p cup from ikea) coffee is £2.25 . Never have I known to pay more for a cup of tea. Is mount Charles struggling that much that they can't afford to give out tea pots . It's cheap and tacky and I was embarrassed. To top it they charged us 10% service charge as there was 6 in our party. No where on the menu did they state this so I didn't pay it- especially when it was hand written on as opposed to being generated by the till.

Visited early Saturday morning for breakfast. Lovely view of st georges market if you sit on the outside balcony. Wanted a light healthy breakfast so was pleased to see fruit salad on the menu and was hopeful as i could see the lovely fresh fruit in the market below. Was presented with a bowl of chopped soft apples and under ripe pear with 2 segments of orange - not a restaurant worthy fruit salad. Also had toast (standard shop sliced pan despite the fresh bread below) which was burnt, and jam which i had to remind them to bring. Quite a wait for the food so coffee was cold by the time the toast came. To be fair they did offer a top up, but it was a bit late at that stage. My sister ordered panncakes which she enjoyed but overall the feeling was disappointment. Im not one to regularly write negative reviews but i wont be returning.

Similar food as served below in the market, but you can sit comfortable up here and watch the world go past. Simple recipes, fast service. Less choice if food than on ground floor, but better place to relax

Food was at top end of pub grub standard, plentiful in terms of quantity and pretty reasonable in price. Plenty of different beers to choose from and very friendly staff who went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Situated directly above the George Market it is an ideal place to grab a bite and a few beers

St George's market should be on your list of places to visit while in Belfast. It has a vibrant atmosphere and varied stalls, including food. The cafe overlooks the market. The service although friendly was a little disorganised. Drinks were ordered with the meal but didn't arrive until after we'd finished eating. The food orders were a little mixed up but don't let that put you off. The breakfast is definitely worth it and is great value. The food couldn't be more locally sourced. It's from the very same market. A couple of very minor grumbles but just relax. This is still a place to come to soak up the previous night's Guinness. The food tastes great and then sets you up for an amble around the market.

Well established restaurant with a balcony overlooking the excellent St George's market. Five of us had a late breakfast and each dish was amazing. The veggie brekkie was very tasty and coupled with a coffee, it was the perfect start to a day in the town. Will be back to sample the dinner menu.

This is a fantastic old covered market square. We visited on Saturday PM and Sunday AM: Food, meat, fish, art, 2nd hand, books, and life music. Fantastic place with so many locals meeting, drinking coffee/thee, eating snacks and enjoying the sphere. Place to be to buy an art souvenir or an 2nd hand object or book. Really a must see for the Belfast visitor

Very friendly staff. A good start. Pleasant house wine. A bit of a wait for food, despite there being few customers. But no matter. Then a starter (beetroot with blue cheese, etc.) made mediocre thanks to the tired and droopy rocket incorporated within the salad.A reasonable main course - linguine with crab - but a little dry and under-seasoned. Not a great deal of love and affection in the kitchen, I felt. It is all very well being nice to the customers, but in the end, it is the food that counts...
