If you exclude the pubs and hotels in "downtown" St Davids with their so predictable menus there is no restaurant choice here , this allows the Gin &Kitchen to easily acquire its number rated listing. Well, I will not be contributing to that score. Whilst the fish of the day was coked to perfection and not unreasonably priced ,the soulless setting , tired /muddy oysters and dessert served frozen , somewhat abrupt staff and strict 2hr dining slots were all on the down side! This place needs competition.

With only one evening to spend in St David's, we were really nervous about choosing the right place to eat. When we left St David's Kitchen, we knew we couldn't have made a better choice. The prices were a bit of a shock, but the first mouthful was proof that it was worth every penny and more. The flavours were out of this world, and I tried lobster for the first time. It was so good - to be honest, I have a feeling I'll have to come back to get lobster that good again! We'll be back.

A delightful, surprising and stunning evening meal! Don't hesitate... just go (but book in advance). It was made clear that there were 2 sittings on booking, so we were happy and prepared for that. If you want to do 2 sittings you have to offer great service without delay and that is exactly what we got. Everything was perfect from the moment we walked in to the time we left. Exceptional service, fantastic ingredients, local, fresh, taste sensations. The price was on point. So good to know that locally sourced food is affordable. Organic wine available. Local gin cocktail to start. 2 hours of pure bliss for us. A real treat. We saved up for this and it was a special occasion. We work really hard and rarely get a reward like this for spending our hard earned cash. We often feel cheated but not this time. Really delivered at every level. Thank you. If you want a more relaxed affair and to finish with drinks and coffee you might need to move on to one of the pubs. It is might seem to be an abrupt end to an evening for some but we believe in supporting businesses to survive and operate in small locations where they need the turnaround. Especially where they have to sacrifice tables for social distancing. Be kind. These guys work their socks off and it would be such a shame to lose such an amazing asset to St Davids which champions local farm to fork.

Went to eat here. Offered a choice of table at 6.00 or 8.00pm. Chose 6.00pm. Arrived slightly early- not a problem. Food was delicious and couldn’t be faulted. Nice atmosphere and good service..... until we asked for a coffee! Basically at 7.35 pm we were told we couldn’t have a coffee as they needed the table back. No mention of this when we booked the table a few weeks previously. We could easily have had a coffee and been out before 8.00pm. The man serving then came over and said we could have coffee somewhere near the cathedral (I don’t know where) but we declined as the moment had passed. To be fair he did offer to knock something off the bill which we also declined. A lovely restaurant and great food but a real shame to be made to feel rushed out and declined a coffee to finish. Customers are not just a business transaction.

We booked prior to arriving in St David’s for a holiday. Glad we did as fully booked on the night we visited. We shared a Roasted Garlic and Butter on sourdough bread to start. The mains we had were fillet steak, tomatoes, fries, and cauliflower and leeks in a cheese sauce and the other main was Pork loin, roasted cauliflower, boiled new potatoes in butter with green vegetables. The puddings we had we Lemon Posset and a local rum chocolate fondant with vanilla ice cream. The food was excellent washed down with a local G&T. Staff were very friendly.

We ordered the chinese meal for 2 during Covid. Have visited before and enjoyed their fresh, plentiful kebabs and really should have ordered these again but wanted to try something different. The chinese food was just dreadful. Overcooked, tasteless and the sauces were just sooooo poorly executed, it was like a child had cooked what they thought a sweet and sour sauce should be. Just awful. Would have been 1 star were it not for the fact that one person in our party had the beef kebab which was fresh, plentiful, zingy and extremely tasty.

Do not order the Chinese. We’ve just had a takeaway and both equally felt it was the worst we’ve ever had. The chowmein noodles were literally swimming in soy sauce, making them so salty they were inedible. There was a plum pork dish that was also swimming in a sweet sickly liquid with very little meat. In fact the dishes were so runny the containers leaked in the bag and spilled all down my partners clothing on the 5mn walk home. The sweet and sour chicken was barely sweet, or sour, and had a load of cabbage in it which I’ve never seen before in a sweet and sour dish. I make better Chinese food than this place. Avoid for Chinese at least. Pictures available.

Slightly disappointed after our visit. No lobster even tho there were two courses on the menu that contained it so left the choice limited. Also when the starter arrived we were delighted it was just as shown on trip advisor. Beautifully presented minimal food.. this was delicious. Unfortunately the main course was not presented in the same way! My fish was good but with a mountain of chips! My husbands steak was good but again with a mountain of chips. Presentation is the key to wetting ones appetite and we were over faced by the amount of chips that were on our plates. The pictures on face book show beautifully presented food on lovely crockery. Not the case on our visit.

We checket out this well reviewed restaurant earlier in the day as I have been shielding and am VERY cautious. We were reassured as the tables were well spaced and menu looked great. The food was indeed top and we really enjoyed the averting - departing with a bottle of the newly launched Run and a local Gin. All the other guests with one exception were very good about putting on their mask when walking to the toilets for entering/exiting. There was one table off 3 women who didn't wear masks at any point - they left for a smoke or something twice and we were disappointed that the staff didn't remind them to wear make or indeed ask them too hand sanitise. The covid rules are meant to help reduce the spread but unless retail and hospitality remind customers out will be waste of time. Why risk losing customers?

Visiting Pembrokeshire, we booked a table at this restaurant on the basis of its reputation. It was full and noisy, so people were having to speak loudly to make themselves heard. The staff were not wearing masks (which is legally mandatory in restaurants Wales). Then we saw a chef in the kitchen remove an item of food from a plate with his gloved hand and put it in his mouth, contaminating the glove, which he didn't change. At this point we hadn't ordered, so we walked out and went to The Bishops, a good pub down the road with masked staff who stand back, muted acoustics and a safe atmosphere.I've sent a message to Pembrokeshire Council asking them to take some enforcement action.

The concept of farm to fork is great and the quality of the produce is superlative, but for the price you might want a bit more. The choice seemed fairly reduced on the night we went: the cod ran out, no pastrami, no mutton or hoggett and... no bread. The other disappointment was the gins. Maybe we should have drunk it neat, but with tonic you could not tatste any seaswide, aromatic or anything else. So maybe double measure and a quarter of a tonic botle should be advised.

My friend was well pleased with his steak, followed by posset. I had a choice of three types of fish or lobster (chose seabass), followed by good cheese course. Vegetables and sauces were very flavourful. The only thing to be wary of is the booking system. Read the instructions very carefully and make sure you use the prescribed wording, otherwise you can find yourself turned away, when you think you've got a booking!

This was a birthday treat from my son who paid upfront of £100 for a meal for two. I cannot complain about the food even though it was a bit pricey for the area (as echoed in other reviews). I did enjoy the food when it came. However, I have since discovered that my son did not get a refund for the balance of £23 unused. To add insult to injury, at the point of paying, we were presented with a bill until my husband reminded them that my son had prepaid. And there was no apology for the confusion and when we asked if a refund would be made, we were told it would be done. Obviously if we had known how much my son had paid (he hadn’t informed us) we would have had a starter as well. So it seems, they had a very good tip for this meal!Apart from this sticking point, we did have a 20 min wait for our 8.30 pm table and were queuing outside with three other groups looking like a very late night soup kitchen. By the time we ate, it was about 9.50 pm and our meal finished at about 10.40 pm. A little late in the evening with a very stressful start.I am all for supporting local businesses especially after Covid-19 and all that but not in this way.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

Let me start by saying I wanted to like this place. I really did. Reviews - the no.1 in St Davids?!? - suggested no less. This place looks very nice - tastefully done inside and with two beautifully-presented sorts of their own gin to try by the glass or bottle. The gin was good - on a par with the average artisan gin. And so we began our meals. There were two people serving us that evening - mostly a lady who was friendly enough to begin with and a man who was plain rude whenever he came over (gesturing in annoyance to the table he wanted us to have, using the one clearly impatient and grumpy word 'alright?' when asking us if everything was ok with our food. The consolation for us (although not for the standard of the place!) was that it seemed to be a terseness directed towards couples (with one big group he was very friendly, and actually let them stand basically in our faces whilst they were waiting to be seated, not exactly social distancing). Speculation: bigger groups bring in more money and get treated better as a result? But a thin consolation it was as our reward for spending well over £100 was, just as we were in the act of finishing our wine, to be asked to leave, as there was another sitting after ours. Not: would you like anything else? Now yes, these are strange times for eating out, but if you want to play with the elite in terms of your prices then you have to have more than a canteen style of service - and the service here is basic canteen level. No asking if you want to taste the wine, plonking the dishes down without explanation, just generally making you feel like they wanted your money and wanted you out asap. There are other nice places to eat here that know the meaning of making their customers feel valued. Food-wise, I went for one of the lamb dishes for my main (not a great deal else on the menu) and it was nice but a little on the tough side. Bottom line: if the dishes were half the price (which would be the average for this part of Wales) then perhaps you would excuse the shortcomings a little more. This place can certainly cook well and dining environs are lovely if nothing fancy. But Michelin Star prices and inadequate waitering/waitressing do not sit well together. You just leave feeling you wish you had spent your money elsewhere, and dismayed/offended by the staff's attitudes. If a member of the staff concerned does by any chance respond to this, they will be furnishing me with more personal attention than I ever received during my two hour meal. If they do not, well, I will not be surprised.

We booked hoping for the lobster but unfortunately there were none available due to the catch that day. This is no fault of the restaurant but the remaining dishes weren't too inspiring. It looks as though they've raised their prices significantly over the last few months (perhaps because of the Eat Out to Help Out scheme?). Expect to pay 25-48 pounds for a main. The truffle chips which were on much of the menu, didn't taste of truffle at all. The steak came as 'pub grub' with tomato and mushroom. The restaurant itself has a nice ambiance and the service was okay. Local gin was lovely.

We were really looking forward to dinner at this restaurant on the last weekend in August having read all the positive reviews, but sadly it did not live up to the hype. The food sounded wonderful (and the London prices suggested it would be something special, with mains coming in around the £25 mark and a double gin and tonic £11), but its ambition is not matched by the reality. My starter of gin-cured salmon was extremely stingy - you can get away with such portions on a tasting menu, but seriously it was tiny (and I am not even a big eater). My mutton loin was tasty but sadly the meat was chewy, and with a cut like mutton it should be cooked slow and long until tender. The real clincher, however, was dessert. The locally sourced cheeses were served without care or generosity - on a white side plate. No explanation was offered as to what they were, and they were not very flavoursome. The service was so-so - initially friendly but then in a hurry for us to finish and get the next diners in the door. Not exactly what you want when you have paid £130 for dinner for two, which is very high by local standards.

We had pre booked a table for 2 at 7pm a few weeks prior to our 1 night stay in St David’s. Sadly no lobster available on the night, due to recent bad weather as it’s locally caught. And the last 4 had been prebooked. Didn’t think to prebook the lobster before our trip, so heads up to do that if that’s what you’ll order. Lovely relaxed atmosphere, nice & spacious environment. Food really was absolutely wonderful, locally sourced which pushes up the price but it’s certainly worth it, quality was spot on. Steady (dare I say slow?) pace, but not an issue for us at all as we happily relaxed into the atmosphere of this place, plus we appreciated everything clearly being cooked from fresh. Impressed with the good portions of quality fish - the chips are to die for. Evening slightly tarnished by being presented the bill around 9pm because there were people waiting outside for a table!? We hadn’t been forewarned of our 2 hour table upon arrival 2 hours earlier, and it felt like we were being rushed out because we’d finished and weren’t having desserts (Another table who arrived at the same time as us seemed settled for evening, maybe they had puds on order). We felt we had neck the last of our £30+ bottle of wine, after paying our >£100 bill. We’d not got even to the gin cocktails yet.... We were told that if we had wanted to stay for drinks we’d have been better booking the ‘later sitting’.... could have done with that nugget of info a few weeks ago. Shame it ended prematurely. Will know for next time :)

We had an amazing meal at the end of our Pembrokeshire holiday. The mutton starter was unique and delicious and the cod main was generous and gorgeous. Wonderful atmosphere, very laid back and the staff were the perfect blend of attentive, yet relaxed. Can recommend for a fantastic treat yourself meal whilst in St David's

Most amazing meal in St David’s! I had the cod (last one, so I heard) and it was delicious! My husband had the mutton loin. We had a side of truffle chips and broccoli dish and all of it was awesome! We finished our meal with espresso martinis - so yummy! The service was fab and the meal was the best we’ve had in a long time. Shame we couldn’t book in for another meal before we leave town, but they are busy. Highly recommend.

Food was ok but not special. disappointed that very little effort made to manage Covid distancing. Although the table were spaced out, people came in regularly to enquire about gin or bookings and distancing was not requested or promoted

We had a great one night stay and watched the sun set over the Cathedral from our room, which the owner said was the best view in St Davids and we would agree. Really friendly approach lovely evening meal in our room and breakfast delivered to our room in the morning. We will, when we return to St Davids, would use the restaurant and hotel again. Was greeted at the bar/restaurant of St. Davids Gin and Kitchen, very friendly service and check-in. We were bought to our room which was just across the road, inside the hotel it was decorated beautifully, art on the walls and a quirky homely vibe. When we got into our room it was AMAZING. We had a clear view of St Davids Cathedral, with mountains and countryside covering the rest of the view. Usually me and my partner want to get out and about, and whilst we did go for a walk around the lovely village and visited a cute espresso bar, we decided to stay in and it was totally worth it. We watched the sunset over the cathedral, ordered lovely food from their restaurant which is takeaway only at the moment (We had the kebab and a burger, it was delicious), it was so quiet apart from the bell of the cathedral ringing, which only added to its charm. +bed was super comfy,+ bathroom lovely and again, full of art and decorations. +great location, in the middle of St Davids, close enough to the bay, close to pubs for a drink, clothes shops and a gallery. +Whilst the hotel does not have parking, there is a car park just round the corner and its only £5 for 24 hours. Thanks so much, it was our first ever trip to Wales and what an experience.

We had dinner from St Davids Kitchen when they were only able to give a takeaway service. The heading says it all... we had the Mutton Kofta Kebabs, chips and onion rings. The quality of the food was excellent with just the right level of spice in the kofta kebabs. We were hungry but the portions were so generous that we will be having chips for breakfast! Highly recommended.

Went there Sunday to try the take away menu that's come in since the lockdown. Social distancing maintained and you can pay via card only. Food was ready on arrival and was fantastic. Locally sourced pork for the kebab and the cooked chicken wings were marinaded in sauce. The single portion of fries was enough to feed two of us. All came to £15 for us both and was tremendous value - would recommend to anyone in the St Davids area at the moment who fancies a take away in these strange times.

Like everyone, St Davids Kitchen has had to adapt because of the lockdown and is now doing takeaway. Saw the sign outside that they were doing traditional Sunday Dinner takeaway and gave them a call a few days ahead and booked the terrine, roast beef with all the trimmings, and apple pie and custard. Because I live nearby I walked to the restaurant and, as requested, took my own plates/dishes in a thermal bag lined with tea towels. Everything was served up piping hot and covered - still lovely and hot when I got home. Others were pulling up outside in cars and the proprietor loaded their meals straight into the boot. Lovely, lovely meal, what a treat - the best thing that's happened to me since the lockdown started. I'll be back!

Just as Storm Dennis was arriving, we booked a two night stay in this lovely little city. Managed to get a table at the last minute at St David's Gin & Kitchen. What a fantastic place! The service was efficient and friendly and the food was fabulous. The selection of small plates is a great idea, meaning that you get to taste a wide variety of flavours that you wouldn't normally get. I loved the black garlic, and the Perl Wen with rhubarb chutney was divine. I don't normally go for chips, but the Parmesan fries were really good, clearly made with fresh potatoes, not frozen - great for dipping into the katsu sauce! We came back the next night and it was just as good as the previous visit, if not better as we had the gin and tonic granita which was a fantastic way to end the meal. Thank you for making our visit to St David's a memorable time (and I'm not talking about Dennis!) and we will happily recommend you to others.

We had eaten here in the past and were impressed. The setup has changed completely to small plates/ tapas style. We thought the collection of plates on offer were miss matched and expensive. Thai style prawns and noodles (3 standard prawns for £7) and BBQ cabbage (which was delicious) did not mix well with other dishes on offer. The crab risotto portion is served in a crab shell. The beef fillet and baked cauliflower were excellent but are 3 mouthfuls each and the cauliflower was £5.50 and the beef was £12. The parmesan chips were very basic- frozen chips with cold, grated Parmesan on top. There were 6 of us and we had 15 plates in total. One bottle of wine and 3gin and tonics. Total bill £189. The restaurant was a bit cold and the ladies loo needs a refurb. In short, we returned full of high hopes but were not impressed this time and won’t rush back.

Delightful restaurant in St David’s. Charming host, imaginative tapas menu, great wine list, plus local gins, Ramsay Island gin is delicious. Food is sourced locally, a map on the wall shows you just how close and how few miles your meal has come from. The menu looked and sounded delicious and the food exceeded its promise. BBQ cabbage, Solva crab risotto and octopus particular highlights. Plates are a good size for sharing. We had 4 plates each, between 5, all demolished with gusto. Had pretty much everything off the menu and every dish was wonderful. Fresh, tasty and great value for money. Definitely worth a visit. Loved it.

Just above the Cathedral in St Davids, in 16 Nun Street, is a St Davids Gin and Kitchen. In the smallest city in Britain is a rare opportunity to experience good food and ambience in a business that is trying to do things differently. They are a developing and innovative business organisation who have changed the way they present their food, which initially feels a little difficult, but when embraced is proves to be a delight. A varied wine and drinks list also adds to the experience. Because the restaurant want to encourage local trade, you can pop-in for a drink and, if you are wise, a bite to eat. Give it a go. St Davids, use it or lose it. It also has great environmental side to it to. See the website.
