Iona is very small so there are limited offerings. Plus if busy, places often run out of different food. I had the kimchi tofu bon Ami sandwich and my husband had the Italian sandwich. I enjoyed my flavorful sandwich and my husband’s sandwich had one thin piece of meat…but it filled the gullet. Staff was fine and prices were reasonable

I stayed here a number of years ago and back on Iona, although not staying at St Columba, we had a fabulous meal - much, much improved in recent years. Menu more imaginative and creative than previously. Lots of local dishes and of course the hotel has its own organic vegetable garden which supplies the kitchen

A visit to Iona is special. Whether you are a person of faith or not, the island has an intangible charm and tranquility that we found irresistible. The island takes on a particular magic after the last ferry has gone and you have the feeling of having it almost to yourselves. If that idea resonates with you, you obviously need a place to stay. For us the Sr Columba hotel fitted the bill perfectly. Rooms are well appointed. Service pleasant and friendly. Food and drink of a high quality, with a great view from the garden. All in all a really lovely base from which to explore this really special place.,

We stayed at the St. Columba and ate almost all our meals in the sunny restaurant with a gorgeous view of the water and grounds. Excellent food and service. Hats off to the chef and kitchen staff, plus wait staff of Sophia, Iona, Sara, Mirren, Matt, Joshua, and anyone else I can’t name who waited on our group of 26 pilgrims. Iona is a beautiful island made more special by the St. Columba hospitality and comfort.

The hotel and seating areas are lovely with great views. We chose indoor dog friendly seating as there was no shade in the garden and it was a very hot day. The lunch menu had four sandwich options, two pies, or the soup. We ordered three pies, two beef and ale, and one mushroom and lentil, and a smoked cheese and chutney sandwich with chips. The pies were small, in individual dishes with a puff pastry lid. All were very dry, the beef ones needed much more gravy. The lentil one had no sauce at all and no sign of a mushroom anywhere! The sandwich was fabulous. Cost us £110 for lunch for 4 which felt expensive for the food received. Service was slow as it was a busy day but super friendly.

We visited Iona mid-week in mid-May, but all the local eateries were booked up. We managed to get a late table reservation here and what a treat it turned out to be. Very high quality cooking and generous portions at quite reasonable prices. It was almost worth the trek over to Iona just for the meal.

An excellent early evening family dinner for 3 generations. The staff were wonderful, so friendly and took very good care of us. I highly recommend thd seafood platter sharing starter which was delicious as well as beautifully presented. It was also a great introduction for the children to some new foods. Two good sized portions of fish and garden crisps and one gnocchi main left us all happy and full. The children cleared their plates of their sausage and chips and fish fingers and chips and after a long play in the garden could manage a pudding of local Mull ice cream. I love a pudding and really enjoyed the mint and cinamon yoghurt with pistachio and berries. I cant wait to go back and try the scallops. Also a shout out to the bread maker - the home made bread was superb.

The exceptional view and friendly staff couldn’t make up for the mediocre lunch. I had a chips (the best part of the meal) and dry lamb burger with a scraping of chutney and a bit of unripe tomato and lettuce. Not very imaginative. But it was the bun that really disappointed - obviously a packet bun that was stale, as was my friend’s accompanying bread to her soup. Her soup had no garnish, which considering its summer and the hotel has a lush garden you would think would be standard. Overall, very ordinary and not the level it used to be. To be fair, I am probably a bit biased as i was once the baker at the hotel so have high standards for bread, but more effort and imagination would be nice in what u believe is a 4⭐️Hotel.

We had gone for dinner expecting good things . The hotel was packed with large numbers of Americans groups and those of us in smaller numbers were rather overlooked. We were shown into a lounge, left with drinks menus and eventually served with drinks. After that, we were ignored. Eventually, we made our own way to one of the dining rooms, were seated and brought food menus. I chose a fish dish with a mussel garnish in a seafood sauce. The sauce smelled disgustingly of drains. I cannot imagine what any chef could have put in the sauce to achieve that smell and taste. The waitress - quite wisely - refused to smell the dish, but I was refunded the cost of that course. It quite literally left a very bad taste in the mouth. No amount of organic vegetables could make up for that fishy disaster.

There are not many restaurant choices on Iona in October. Our large group arranged in advance for lunch at the St Columba Hotel. While some of the staff were accomodating, our waitress was absolutely the most unfriendly, unwelcoming person I experienced in my 17-days of travel around Scotland. Scotland has the most wonderful, warm, charming, welcoming people you could ever imagine. That is why it was such a disappointment to have such an unwelcoming, unfriendly, unpleasant waitress. Food was quite good, but entire meal was stained by the terrible unfriendly service.

Made a booking and enjoyed a lovely three course meal with the best waitstaff during this trip of Scotland and Ireland. Clean, pretty deco, great table setting and delicious food. Every aspect of this dinning experience was 10/10. The starter was my favourite, black pudding with scallops, trio of fish next, and then on to the lemon tart. Arriving for lunch at 2.30 we were told lunch was finished but soup and cakes were still available. Perfect for our needs but too much for the man on duty who was more concerned with where we were sitting than talking my our order. Lack of communication between the staff meant we were moved THREE times in order for the male member of staff to set up for evening meals. Evening meals started 3 hours later!! Don't think we would still be there 3 hours later! In fact we seriously considered cancelling our order and moving on elsewhere as our presence seemed to be too much of an inconvenience for him. In other words, just right! The view:The wide windows look across to the Ross of Mull, and up and down the Sound of Iona. Where in the world is more beautiful than this?Tip:The hotel is ideal for morning coffee and afternoon tea, both of which are served outside in clement weather, otherwise indoors, in the fine lounge, with its long windows and tranquil atmosphere. Will we return?Yes, please!

Staying elsewhere on the Island but dined at St Columba.....Very nice too. Served by the lovely Leanne who was very efficient and helpful. Nice steaks, seabass...yummy sticky toffee pudding. Would recommend.

We had a really lovely day weather wise for our trip to Iona and we sat in the garden for our lunch at St Columba hotel. The food was lovely and a reasonable price and the location is perfect.

The lunch our family had at St Columba Hotel was perfect. Tasty, excellent choices, and in a beautiful setting. They have a large garden beside the Hotel where they grow their own greens.

I had the most delicious lunch of smoked salmon with a green salad. The flavours in the salad were great...enhanced by flowers. I didn't know rose petals tasted so good! Hubby had a more traditional burger and chips but this too was a very special meal. We were outside in the sunshine overlooking the bay and with a fantastic view of Mull. The service was excellent and the staff were friendly and efficient. I can also recommend the cheesecake.

We stopped in for lunch while visiting Iona.We had home made lentil soup - Looked lovely but lacked flavour and seasoning.Burger looked delicious but was way undercooked. Burger was returned without question. Accompanying leaves on the burger roll were very dry and uninspiring to look at. No choice of dressings or sauces offered - we had to ask for a dressing or mayonnaise.Chips looked nice - we did not get to taste them since burger was returned immediately.Nice choice of soft drinks and beers.Staff not really 'switched on or servce aware'. Not bad, just Functioning and needed to be prompted.Wish it could have been a better experience. Maybe with other choices of food.

We have visited this restaurant a number of times and have always enjoyed it despite it being a bit overpriced but not on this occasion. We both ordered the fish and chips but when it arrived the piece of fish had been cut in half and shared between the two of us.I asked the waiter why we had to share a piece of fish and he shrugged and said it was a large fish. If it had been well cooked it may have been acceptable but unfortunately the batter was undercooked and still liquid inside. To add insult to injury there were no chips but seven over cooked and probably reheated potato wedges accompanied by a small pot of crushed peas. The only reasonable size portion on the plate was the large dish of tartar sauce. This was not an acceptable meal priced at £12.00 each and although dining choices are limited on Iona I will never visit here again.

Was expecting great quality fresh food . But very disappointed . Looking forward to local mussels but off the menu . Scallops were fresh but the sauce let it down and the bread was stale and expensive . Both in the end had fish and chips , that was two very small pieces of fish each , couldn't hardly see any fish , most likely frozen due to the texture and appearance . Staff were excellent and beer was good

nice ambience with great staff and service, but the bar lunch menu had a disappointing set of choices and the food served was way below par for a top bar lunch

We actually ate lunch in the pub and dinner and breakfast in the dining room. Both meals were pretty good. Let's face it though, you do not really have a choice as there is nothing else around so luckily the food and prices were not bad.

The hotel is an experience. The food is wonderful the beds comfortable and the cosy. Great place to stay for visits to the island. Looking forward to a visit in the summer. PLEASE finish the residents lounge.
