Cold and poor quality food We visited Squires today for breakfast. It was very busy but when we received our breakfast I had scrambled egg which was cold, bacon was in edible where it been so overcooked, sausage tasteless my Husband had fried egg also cold again in edible bacon and tasteless sausage. We regularly go for breakfast at Squires but today was the worst breakfast we’ve had in a long long time we should’ve complained but instead we paid the bill and left not at all happy

I think that the chef must have changed. Food used to be superb. I ordered vegetarian Caesar salad which was basically lettuce leaves, loads of dressing, croutons and 2 slices of halloumi for £12.99?!!! I had been told it came with a hard boiled egg and although this was incorrect information that I’d been given, the waitress did get me an egg. Fish and chips looked like it had just been warmed up - peas were shrivelled. Such a shame as I always loved it here. It’s extremely expensive for very poor quality. Will not be returning.

First instance the guy serving the food had NO customer service, he just put the meals down in a heap, didn't ask who's was who's, didn't say a word. I have been visiting here occasionally for several years. Yesterday, the quality of the plants and goods was still good (and still pricey!). Coffee and food were fully adequate. But the cafe service was probably the most abysmal I have ever encountered. Not a hint of a please or a thank you. The two staff members I had the misfortune to deal with didn't seem to know what a smile was and were as cheerful as if they had just received a death sentence. Coffee was slapped down on the table at the start and whipped away before we had finished afterwards. The word is 'rude'. Suggestion to management: spend time training staff and checking on them. I may try the cafe one more time, then it will be wiped off my list for good.

How can this place go on with all the negative reviews about the cafe and they still do not address the problems? I went there for breakfast and again a month later for lunch. The food for was not fantastic on both occasions but I did not expect much better as its just a garden centre cafe. The worst thing was the fifteen minute wait to be served and then another thirty minutes for the order to turn up followed by the excuses which fell on deaf ears as we just wanted to get out of there. The first visit was much the same with long waiting. The problem seems to be that they only have one person taking orders and payment, it doesn't work!

Don't waste your time or money, No counter service, you have to wait to be seated, then nobody attends to you, there are little or no staff, We only wanted a light snack, we ordered scones which were served cold, the fruit scones had very little fruit and of very poor quality possibly not made fresh on day & may had been frozen, my wife could not eat hers. I come from a family of caterers and would rate the experience at zero if I could, Poor quality no idea of good customer service. The management clearly have no idea how to run the facility as it cannot be blamed on the staff.. The whole setup does no work and needs a complete rethink. Catering is easy if you provide a good service, quality food and at a fair price its so easy, customers would then come back, however you you failed on all three. VERY DISSAPOINTED

Very disappointing lunch since the change of menu. The Malaysian curry was bland and watery and the option to have chicken in it for an extra £3 on top of the price of £14 was, in my opinion expensive. The chicken was chewy and my friend couldn’t eat it. I had the vegetarian risotto which consisted of a cereal bowl of risotto with a bit of garnish on the top and nothing else. Also pricy at £14. Whilst the risotto was actually quite tasty, the meagre portion size and no accompaniment marred the enjoyment somewhat. A side salad with some pitta bread with the risotto would have been nice. Not an enjoyable experience and certainly not value for money. Also very disappointed that the Welsh Rarebit has been removed from the menu. I expect more from Squires especially for the price.

Two of us went for lunch, have used this place for years going back to the days of Secretts. It was disappointing sadly as the venue is good in so many other ways but not for lunch. Thick sliced bread, not butter, sparse filling, tasteless and the side salad was unwashed and dry, to get the attention of a server took for ever so needs sorting. Maybe thats why the huge coffee shop had just a handful of people there.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

We decided to do a bit of Christmas shopping at Squires, then decided to stay for lunch. At 12.15 we approached the cafe desk, only to be asked if we had booked! We hadn’t, and we were told it would be a 20 minute wait, and to walk around the garden centre; we had already done that for about an hour beforehand, and spent money!!! The couple behind us wasn’t prepared to wait and left, which we wish we had done. However, we returned to the desk after 15 minutes - having no longer felt we should be walking around - and was shown to a table. We noticed many tables had a reserved sign on them, and several were never occupied for the whole hour-and-half we were there. And waited 40 minutes for a sandwich. There was a notice pointing out staff shortages, so we assumed the reserved signs were to “close”off those tables completely. Fair enough, lessen the amount of tables if the staff aren’t available, but to have a booking system is ridiculous. Garden centres are the go-to place for a drop-in cuppa, snack or lunch. They are not high-end bookable restaurants. There are plenty of others around where booking isn’t essential. So the next time we want to drop in to a garden centre for a quick bite, it won’t be Squires Milford. On the positive side, the staff were very pleasant. Food mediocre.

I accept lack of staff will cause problems but to be told that we five pensioners could not sit at one the many empty and clean tables in the cafe until they were able to serve us was downright ridiculous. Don’t they want customers at all! We arrived at 3 pm to be told we would have to come back in fifteen minutes. Now fifteen minutes standing around or wandering around the garden centre on elderly legs just does not work especially when we can see seats begging us to sit on them! We have in the past been regular customers, not any more. Would have happily sat and waited. We have plenty to talk about but to be told to stroll round for fifteen minutes was quite frankly very bad PR! We got back in our cars and drive down the road to another garden centre cafe where we had great service, lovely food and nothing but politeness. Watch out Squires, if you treat customers badly eventually staff shortages won’t be a problem.

Visited Squires for both plant purchases and breakfast. Plants were fine but the breakfast was pretty awful. It was mainly because the food was barely warm which is surprising considering the wait. Hash browns soft and cold in the middle. Beans, sausage bacon pretty much the same. Either there is no quality control over the kitchen staff or they simply do not care but this should be basic checks by the Manager at the very least. Not much point having a really good looking restaurant area if the food is barely edible. Shame but will not eat there again.

This used to be a great place to meet friends for a cheap and cheerful brekkie or lunch, it was always packed and great value for money. I had high hopes when they refurbished, but with this comes cost, and now the prices have doubled, yet the food quality hasn't - tiny portions, sausages less than three inches long, 'bloomer' toast that effectively sainsbury's essentials white sliced and cheap concentrated orange juice. All this was fine when you were charging a fiver for a full breakfast, but £12.95 is appalling! I appreciate that Covid has caused a immense financial strain on businesses, but ripping off loyal customers to recoup the cash is not the answer. While the cafe was closed for almost a year during the rebuild, we started going to Eliza's around the corner, which was lovely, buzzing and great value, and I think that's where we'll stay.

The cafe was as if they had buit an industrial warehouse, couldn't use it so put a few tables around and called it a cafe. All we wanted was a cup of coffe and were presented with a complicated IT system of ordering which we gave up on and asked a passing member of staff to take our order which he did. The breakfase system was ridiculous as it only worked if you wanted six items from a list. There were no single uncooked items, such as a bun or a cake., avaiable. This might well be due to the current situation - let's hope so. I would not have been surprised if a Dalek had come out shouting order, order, order ( one up on exterminat I guess) as it was all a bit sterile with no atmosphere and I felt like a participant in a fifties sci fi film. The old saying, ' Why meddle with something when it's working', fits Squires cafe as it is not a patch on the old Secret's one which was staffed by humans who communicated with you with words. Also the choice of food was infinately better. Some may love it but it's not for me and , after using the old cafe for many years, will not be returning.

Before I get into the nuts and bolts, I must congratulate the staff in the cafe. It was great to see many of them back after the closure. They did a great job in a tricky circumstance.HOWEVER... the reason that we didn't hand our food back and go home was because there were too many complaints that it was embarrasing. We did that awful British thing of eating it. Thankfully, Rishi was supporting this meal. If not, we would have paid £60 for 4 meals that were cold in parts and extremely low quality in others. The description of the fish is beer battered. The batter was thin, tasteless and the fish limp. We dicussed what ype of fish it might be and had to check the menu to see what it was in the end. The peas were cold on both plates. So far, that's two out of four that were poor. Trying explaining that through masks! The mac and cheese burger was pretty substandard. The mac was cold and didn't taste of cheese in the slightest. It was thick and floury. The burger bun was burnt and hidden under a lettuce leaf and the burger was on the black side of cooked around the edges. The middle of the burger was like a cheap frozen burger that used to be standard in the 1980s. Taken back to my childhood for all the wrong reasons, I had the feeling I was eating food of a poor quality, not £15 quids worth. The crockery was lovely - although getting rid of the big teapots was a mistake -but we felt like we were paying for it.If it was Squires restaurant, the menu would have made sense, but it's a Cafe Bar. A trip to Secretts and then Squires has been at the heart of bringing our children up. We've met friends, talked, watched babies become children and then teenagers, but we won't be back. We want a toastie and a piece of cake. We knew the cafe needed modernised but it's now a dark shed and has lost its heart. I really feel for the staff who are still putting their heart in to their work. I don't review, but my family has asked that I write this so that others can make their mind up before they spend a lot. We've been at home for a long time and to eat out, the food HAS to be good now. The would have cost £60 for a cafe lunch at a garden centre. It's turned out to be a disappointing mistake, with Rishi preventing it from being a costly mistake. We are now looking for a new garden centre for a toastie and a good pot of tea.

My first meal out in four months, so I was expecting a real treat. Impressed with chandeliers that are obviously an upgrade from photos on their website, and being almost empty the venue looked nice. We were unable to order with our smart phones, so in the end the staff member trying to explain it all was persuaded to take our order. At £14 for a fish and chip lunch, the first two plates that were presented to us offered what appeared to be cloned pieces of fish and very overcooked chips. We both sent our meals back. The second offerings were at least hot but the chips were not all cooked though this time. Feeling sorry for the waiting staff, we felt that we could not complain again. Disappointed, we then just asked for tea and were impressed with individual cups, saucers, milk jug and teapots. Impressed also that we were to get two cups of tea out of each pot. However, it appears that they use the cheapest teabags as it was only possible to taste the paper that the tea come in. No second cup taken obviouslyI did use the lavatory, and can report that it was impressive. Will not be going back unless the quality of the food improves, or the prices reflect what we will be offered

We used to frequent the old Secretts garden centre cafe regularly due to it's wide choice of breakfast and lunch snacks, so after the long refurbishment and post-lockdown re-opening we were keen to go back. First of all, you have to book at least 24 hours in advance. Who does that when going to a garden centre? Secondly, you can only have a maximum of 6 people. I understand that this is due to Covid-19 and social distancing, but they include a baby in a high chair (who is not really eating anyway!) as one person, so if you have a small baby, it's really only 5 people maximum. We duly booked and turned up on time. The new decor inside was quite nice and the space much bigger than before - although maybe it only seemed like that because the place was practically empty. Why they can't allow people in (where they could still take their contact details at the door) who haven't booked when the place is empty, I don't know. The menu was VERY limited and the only options for food at lunchtime were full-blown meals with a bit of a weird twist (chickpeas, tumeric, mac 'n' cheese burger etc) and not particularly appetizing. When the food came (we opted for the only "normal" things on the menu - fish & chips and burgers for the kids), the majority of it was actually quite tasty, although the chips tasted like cheap oven chips as they were a bit hard and seemed undercooked. And the kids' starters came with beetroot hummus. What kid likes beetroot hummus? My two certainly didn't and I don't blame them having tasted it myself. So, to summarise, the food tasted mostly ok, but for the £14-15 per meal price tag, it was just not good enough. I have had far, far better meals in local pubs (or even chain restaurants in the high street) for less money than this. When I'm at a garden centre and hungry, I want to just grab a quick snack - like a sandwich, jacket potato or toastie, or even just get a coffee - which the old cafe there was brilliant at. In future, if I want a full meal at lunchtime, I will certainly go elsewhere. A real, real shame as they've ruined what was once a great place for lunch.

Always something new to see at Squires but today they surpassed themselves My daughter is wheat dairy and gluten intolerant and going out to eat can be problematic Went to the restaurant at Badshot lea and they were amazing Chef came out with a book and looked at what would be suitable given all the intolerances We ordered all the food for the rest of the family and found a seat They delivered to our table freshly cooked salmon A medley of vegetables Looked and tasted delicious Nothing was too much trouble We were very impressed particularly with the staff and there willingness to see we had a good experience and good food Well done Squires

Visited mainly due to discount vouchers. Picked the wobbliest , loudest trolley ever experienced and toddled off on the uneven flooring, through the shop area first which is an odd layout. No stock left for plants on most vouchers, which still had a couple of weeks to run. Decided to browse in general, but was shocked at the state of most of the plants. When I asked a member of staff about a particular plant she picked it up, dropped it, then wandered off to ask another member of staff, without explanation. Still not giving up, I choose a specimen in the hope of saving it from its poor environment and was accused at the till of trying to use a voucher a second time. Mix up sorted, I asked a member f staff about the current refurbishment works, which is being kept as unobtrusive as possible, to their credit. The staff member grumpily replied "making the shop bigger and more cafe". I am somewhat relieved at the latter as the cafe is not inspiring in its current condition. Once home, I eagerly opened my newly acquired compost, to find a bag of mold. Overall, a poor example of a garden centre, which is less garden and more gifts and tea.

We have visited twice in the last month, once for lunch when we waited for over an hour. Again today for breakfast and were advised of a 40minute wait, when it was less than half full. We declined and went elsewhere. Such a shame as the food is really good if you are prepared to wait for it.

We stopped off at Squires having left a very disappointing Mothers Day meal at a restaurant 15 minutes away. We initially stopped off to get a drink and something else to eat (we had to send our food back in the restaurant we came from) but we ended up wondering around for the next few hours. We live near the Twickenham branch so always pop in there, but this Squires is something else!! Its MASSIVE! Tons of gifts to browse (and buy!) beautiful outdoor area with a pond, statues and a VAST array of flowers and plants to choose from. The sun was out and we ended up having a great day having come home with a few new purchases including a new set of outdoor furniture. Massive thanks to the two guys who helped us (Mark and a lovely blonde guy - sorry I have forgotten his name!)

We had fish and chips at this pleasant Squire's café in Milford. The dish looks fine (see photos), chips and peas were average, as one would expect but the fish (thick on one end) was still raw! When I complained to the staff, they seemed indifferent unfortunately. What a pity.

Sunday afternoon and the restaurant is 75% full. Ordered food and told there is a 45 minute wait after I’ve finished paid for it. Currently sitting here 45 minutes later and the food is still not out. Don’t have x amount of tables in the restaurant if you can’t provide a reasonable timed service. We have only ordered soup and a sandwich....not a five course Michelin started gourmet food selection

Must be years since I last visited as I’m sure it was part of the Secretts setup then. Car park’s really not large enough when it’s a busy day - at top end is entrance to the PYO area which I think is still run by Secretts. Diverse range of “stuff” for sale as well as plants but much the same as most other garden centres, so nothing unique as far as I could see. Cafe area is quite large and there’s also outside seating if weather’s conducive - prices are about what you’d expect and there’s a range of loose tea at around 25p additional to their standard tea bags - always good to get tea in a pot! Nice cake selection as well :-)

I went with friends for lunch on 16th May. The service was fairly slow. One friend had ordered ham, egg and chips. When it arrived I could not believe the state of the fried eggs. They had obviously been cooked and kept hot for a VERY long time....probably from breakfast. The yolks were solid, the white was like rubber, and the underside were brown and crispy. I told my friend to ask for fresh eggs, but he is not in good health, and a bit frail and said he didn't want to make a fuss. I really think that it is appalling that they got away with serving such poor quality food. The plant centre is good, but I won't recommend the cafe.

Went for lunch on a Thursday afternoon, ordered sandwiches with sides of chips. After waiting 30 mins (and trying to keep a hungry 10 month old entertained) the food finally arrived. It was not great and only one sandwich came with chips - when I mentioned this to a manager (who happened to be passing) she very curtly asked to see my receipt and then said we'd only paid for one chips so we can have some more but we'd have to go to the tills and pay another £1 ! Obviously said no thanks and just got on with our lunch as we were pretty hungry by that point.

The wait for food here is just crazy and always has been. Having spent some time in hospitality it's clear that they are disorganised and have their deployment all wrong. It's such a shame but I believe that are complacent as there is no competition in the immediate area with enough seating.

The garden centre is nice and it's ok for a light bite or a tea or coffee but as it was going to be a treat for lunch we thought we'd give it go. I ordered a "vegan curry" as per menu and scampi for mum and a side order of chips. When I got back back to the table I noticed my "vegan curry" had chicken added to it. I returned to the till and told the person what had happened and got a £2 refund. I waited quite patiently for 30 mins and when there was no sign of food I returned to the cashier and asked what had happened and was this normal. I was told the curry was probably being re cooked. I really don't understand that, surely you would cook it as vegan then maybe add chicken or prawns to it. When the order did finally arrive about 40 mins later there was an apology but the side order was missing. Another 5 mins wait then it turned up. It was the first time I've seen a vegan option on the menu but I doubt I would return again unless just for a drink and I'm not in a rush. When the food did arrive though it was very hot and tasted nice. Very disappointing. Looking at the options below I'm reluctant to say a "good meal" but there is a vegan option now on the menu. I didn't ask as we didn't want to risk getting a drink but I don't know if they serve vegan marg or soya milk.

Have just moved to the area and had heard good things about the breakfast here so I was eager to try it. Ordered the 9 piece breakfast and was told there was going to be a 30 minute wait which was grand as I wasn't in any hurry. You'd expect the food to be piping hot when it arrived if the wait was that long but the only thing that was hot was my sausages. Both my eggs, hash browns and beans were stone cold. The eggs were so cold I couldn't eat them. Also managed to get my order wrong as I asked for bread, not fried bread and I got 3 sausages instead of 2 and a slice of bacon. I was going to complain on the day but the queue to the till was about 10 deep and there was no one on the floor. Also guessing the option would have been another 30 minute wait for replacements. Not sure I'll be back.

We had arranged to meet up with some old friends here yesterday. It was an interesting experience all round. I am sure that this was probably not a typical situation but it is certainly memorable. We placed our order at the counter only to be told that any dish containing chicken was unavailable, this may not sound like the end of the world although it is interesting how many options were then closed. A group re-think followed by a second visit to the counter revealed that fish or prawns were also not available in any form. A second re-think and 3rd attempt at ordering revealed that any toasted dish was unavailable because the toasting equipment was hors de combat. Our limited choice was eventually made and ordered, only for us to be informed that there would now be a 20 minute delay - interestingly, this was some considerable time after our first abortive order. Clearly this scenario was being played out throughout the establishment. The bill for our very frugal repast of 4 basic dishes, including 4 coffees was £35.00

Such a good choice of menus for families or for friends meeting and dining or having a coffee. My parents used to enjoy coming here too so lovely for the elderly and very accessible. You can sit out in nice weather. Delicious well presented food from roast dinners to wraps and ciabattas, salads and jacket potatoes. Lovely scones, cakes and cream teas, children's food boxes and portions too. High chairs available. Lovely variety of hot and cold drinks. Select a table then order your food and tell them your table number, collect your drinks yourself and they bring the food. Excellent service, but there can be a short queue and it can get busy at times, but very pleasant surroundings. One of the best garden centres in the area, fabulous choice of plants and amazing gift shop too, cards and presents for every budget, loads of good and disabled parking, great value for money.

Squires (note spelling, Trip Advisor) was packed today being a bank holiday. The tables were pushed so tightly together it was difficult to move about. They were not frequently cleared. The tubs which held the clean cutlery for you to help yourself to were dirty with bits of food on the inside. The food when it arrived was average. The fish component of the fish and chips was dry and overcooked and was not of good quality in the first place. The tartare sauce was a chemical concoction and tasted disgusting. The tea was very weak. Altogether a depressing experience. I thought this country had moved on from outdated places like this.
