We go hear every two weeks , the staff, the food out this world, great log fire, all on the flat so very good for wheelchairs, again you must book to have a great meal, thay have turned this place round, well done, to all-out

First time to the pub and all we can say is Blake and Natalie are the perfect hosts, who’s care and attentiveness comes through in bundles. Nothing was too much trouble and food and service was excellent. Already looking forward to Christmas Day at the pub 👏👏

Really friendly and warm welcome, good choice of starters and mains, thoroughly enjoyed the rib-eye (3 of us had this), the curry and scampi were also lovely. Staff really good and attentive enough without being pushy. Although I am probably barred for life after trying to give them Euro instead of £ as tip 🤣😂; that’ll teach me to put specs on, so sorry; very embarrassed! 😳

This was our first visit to the Spread Eagle in the village of Hockerton since it changed hands about a year ago. Already we had heard that it was building up a great reputation. On arriving we were immediately struck by the friendliness of the front of house team. The service was excellent. The menu choices are very traditional and between the four of us we chose fish steak and pies. We were all impressed ! The chips were home made; the steak was tender, the fish was excellent and the steak and ale pies were great too as was the mash and the mushy peas. Towards the end of our meal the chef ( patron) came to visit which was a nice touch. Meals are well priced and the whole team are to be congratulated.

Amazing. Very friendly. Great decor. Pub vibe but restaurant standard food. Great selection. Son said steak was best ever, and he's always chooses the steak, better than a miller and carter steak were his exact words! Sadly not really in an area we will visit often but highly recommend. My second time here. It’s so nice to go and eat where the staff are really helpful and nothing seems too much trouble for them all including the Chef who really should be congratulated. Absolutely delicious lunch. Two of us had the most excellent sirloin steak and one of us fish and chips. We ignored the fact we were meant to be on diets and also had scrumptious puddings. I recommend this pub wholeheartedly.

This was our first time going to this pub, thought we would try it as the reviews were very good. Called a few hour’s before to book table and was told they only had table in conservatory. When we arrived it wasn’t really a conservatory just a very small room separate from main pub with 3 tables, was very disappointing as wasn’t like the main restaurant. We both ordered the pie which was very nice and a decent portion and good value for money, but for the dessert, I had the cheesecake which was the smallest piece I’ve ever seen! About a twelfth of a cake maybe smaller! And for £6.50 which was a bit stingy to say the least. But I couldn’t really tell you if it was nice or not as it was that small of a piece. My partner had cornflake tart and that was quite a decent portion. So overall it was ok but nothing to rave about.

4 lovely meals with generous portions in lovely setting. The penang curry was judged as the best ever had by two of us and good value. Nice touch for chef to come and check with us after the meal.

We are on holiday with family in the area and looked at reviews to decide where to go for Sunday lunch. The Spread Eagle had good reviews. We all had the roast dinner - choosing beef, chicken and pork - all enjoyed their meals. We also enjoyed a bottle of Merlot @ £22. All good and very reasonably priced. Friendly staff.

What a lovely place. We just popped in for a drink after a day out. Very pleasant lad on the bar. We sat at a table near the fireplace, just chatting. I was stunned when the licensee was not only listening to our conversation but saw fit to interrupt, comment and correct something I'd said. Feeling thoroughly disillusioned from paying high prices for sub-standard food for a long time, my clever daughter discovered the Spread Eagle at Hockerton. We visited for Sunday lunch and so very pleased we did. We had three courses and each course was superb. What a chef! All professionally served by two lovely and knowledgeable waitresses, nothing was too much trouble. Very reasonably priced. We would award six stars if possible. Plan to go again as soon as possible.

Having passed the place on many previous occasions we finally popped in and were so glad we did. The staff were very friendly and attentive, found us a table straight away (despite us having not booked for the busy Sunday lunch period) and the food was brilliant. Lots to choose from the standard menu and specials blackboard, all of which was cooked to order and boy was there lots of it! To be honest we didn't need the starters (although they were excellent) as the mains plates were really plentiful and we had veg on the side. Nice selection of real ale (Black sheep and Adnams), cider and soft drinks and the restaurant itself was cosy and nicely decorated. To top it all the final bill came under £50 which was very good value for a meal out for 3, including a round of drinks. Will definitely consider visiting again.

called here for a drink .last time we turned up here it was a boozer they did serve food but we looked and left as it looked scruffy.what a change clean bright and in the middle of knowhere.but still around 10 people in the pub ...looks like husband /wife running it .I had gammon and partner had scampi both were excellent.will be back soon .could not find a fault .they just kept thing simple /wine and beers not over the top

Called some 3 years or more ago, it closed, then it looked as if it was being demolished, we now learn that it had a new roof and reopened. The pub has a good car park is very welcoming and has a nice menu, Our visit was early afternoon so we had good lunch and desserts, need to go again to try other items on the menu. We were well looked after whilst there so would call again when planning Newark or Lincoln next stop.

Ate here many years ago and wasn't impressed enough to return. Now it's been taken over and refurbished we gave it a try as we were passing. The landlady was very friendly and made a huge fuss of our dog. I had soup to start then we both had baguettes which were enormous and came with chips and salad. Food and drink were all good value and we will certainly pop in again,possibly in an evening for a ' proper' meal or for a Sunday lunch.

Called in for lunch. The pub has been refurbished approx 3 years ago. Nice atmosphere and very warm welcome from the owner. We ate from ther lunch menu - wife had mushroom soup, not the best she has had, but still good. We then had baguettes, Queenie had cheese and onion and I had bacon and brie. Both came with hand cut chips and salad and both were delicious. With wine and beer, came to about £27. Highly recommended.

Wonderful experience. Just taken my wife and family here as a mothers day treat. The food was fantastic, I had the duck, my daughter wolfed down her sea bass. My vegetarian wife had penang curry and thoroughly enjoyed it. My 11 year old lad had the turkey roast and was beaten by it. The staff were friendly and professional, the food was piping hot, the veg...normally an afterthought in lesser places was fresh and tasty. Went for the second time in four weeks last night and enjoyed it just as much as the first time. My wife had the Barnsley chop, again, and I had the pie, again ! Will definitely be returning. Highly recommended.

Called in last Saturday for Lunch and we were not disappointed. The menu has a very wide choice of starters and mains all at sensible prices. We decided on desserts but for £4.95 each they were very, very tiny. i would give the dessert a miss in favour of a starter.

My husband & I booked this at the last minute yesterday afternoon as we were looking for somewhere decent to eat but we also wanted to eat a meal before travelling back to Newquay in Cornwall. Although they were very busy with bookings, they were kind enough to accommodate us as we said we wanted to be on the road by 7pm.

Went to the Spread Eagle for Sunday dinner today. Fabulous friendly atmosphere, attentive, professional staff and well presented home cooked food which was also very generous in portion size.

Had the belly pork special, it was delicious, everyone enjoyed what they ate, it all seemed freshly made and just a bit different than other pubs I’ve eaten in. I would definitely go back again.

Sorry, but I have to disagree with the majority here...This used to be a really nice pub but closed down.
