Spread Eagle - Cottingham in Corby

Arrived and asked if we wanted to sit inside or out, waitress took our drinks order(good selection of beers and lagers) while we perused the menu. Food arrived promptly and was very tasty. Good dessert menu and very good service from staff

We had heard great things about the spread Eagle so we decided to book in for food and we were not disappointed we both had the duck breast special and it was cooked to perfection and melted in the mouth, highly recommended

We first heard of Spread Eagle at Cottingham last year and heard great things so booked it for the MILs 70th birthday. There were around 10 of us and nothing was too much trouble. From the first moment we talked to Rob about booking it we felt welcome. Many village pubs have an awkward feeling if you're not a regular but this place just felt like home. We have been several times since, and the food is just stunning. Beautifully cooked and presented and you can tell all the ingredients are fresh. We've been for food, drinks and even to the quiz (which is difficult but fun). The staff are as amazing as the food. All in all an absolutely brilliant place. (No they're not paying me for this review.)

Fantastic meal,reasonably priced drinks,friendly service,made to feel very welcome by the landlord Rob.We would highly recommend a visit to this lovely country pub.a return visit is highly anticipated.

Called in Friday afternoon we where late for lunch but barman asked kitchen if they would still cook for us nothing was to much trouble. We had ham eggs and chips it was perfect cosy dinning room very clean food was hot highly recommended

This is the first time I have been here, nice looking place from the outside, nice and warm inside. There’s a pool bar where dogs are allowed and a more resteraunty bit where they aren’t. My meal was delicious and the staff were friendly, chatty and always smiling with a good rapport between them all. The only down side was that it did my head in trying to decide who I’d rather take home, the bar maid or the chef...... all in all an excellent evening.

Tonight six of us enjoyed a family meal and drink at the Spread Eagle in a Cottingham. We were welcomed by extremely pleasant staff who made us feel relaxed and warm. We took our drinks to our table where we were given adequate time to select our meals. We were offered table service to replenish drinks too. When our food came it was attractively presented, was delicious and perfectly cooked. All six of us ate everything as it was sooooooo good! When it came to the bill the staff were plesant and made time to chat while still serving us and other customers. In conclusion we would thoroughly recommend this pub for a drink, a welcome and a superb meal. Hopefully we will come again soon.

We have been here a few times now since it’s changed owners & we can’t fault it in the slightest. The service is fantastic and the staff are so attentive & accommodating. The food is always delicious & hot. It’s a lovely pub, very family friendly & offers lots of different entertainment on different evenings. One side is even dog friendly! Thank you for always being so great at what you do! I wish I could give you more stars!

Yet another great meal, Stilton & Broccoli,soup was lovely, Lamb tagine was really tasty They also have a great selection of beers, Staff are very welcoming and nothing is too much trouble

Called in on the off chance to have a meal. The menu was very varied & there was also a specials board. My husband had the Moroccan lamb tangine which he highly recommends. The prices are reasonable as well. The service was excellent and all the staff are extremely helpful & cheerful. Would not hesitate in recommending this pub/restaurant for food or just drinks.

I moved into the village a couple of years ago and I absolutely love this pub. Staff are so lovely and friendly, they go above and beyond to help. The food really is excellent and great value for money. It’s very clean and as a lady in a wheelchair it’s so nice to find a cosy comfy old fashioned pub that has a good, clean, well equipped disabled toilet for a change and not a storage cupboard 😠 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ all round. I just wish more people supported/used the village pub. Use it or lose it 🤗

2nd visit last night with friends, one of which is disabled. The landlord is so helpful, going out of his way to ensure we have a table that is wheelchair accessible. The freshly cooked food is lovely, and served with a smile from the friendly bar lady. I would highly recommend The Spread Eagle, and already looking forward to our next visit!

Had a family get together for lunch at the spread eagle we had the fish and chips never had fish like it we were very pleased the service was excellent and the staff were very friendly there was six of us the meals all came out at the same time we had a great meal and would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone

We came today for the sunday roast it was lovely,and all fresh, mashed potatoes and roast potatoes cooked to perfection, a nice big yorkshire pudding, bar staff and serving staff are lovely

We have had several meals recently at this pub, and they have never been less than superb. Fantastic value for money, and the staff are warm and welcoming and ready to share a joke. Great atmosphere, like a traditional pub should be.

We arrived for drinks for my Brother's birthday on Christmas eve, who lives in the village. There was about 15 of us including little children. We were made very welcome and made ourselves at home in the cosy pub. The three of us stayed on for meal after everyone else headed home. I had the Ribeye steak which was the best steak I have had for months, my wife had the Burger and my daughter the Hunters Chicken, all generous portions but well cooked and quality ingredients. Good service and set us up for the night. Thanks.

Visited on the way home from a shopping trip the place was busy with Xmas parties but the service from the staff was excellent couldn’t promise us a meal but we stayed and we got two courses main and sweets. The food was excellent with lovely service. Pleased we stayed staff friendly and polite will definitely be revisiting the pub which has always been a favourite many thanks merry Xmas to you the manager/owner/steward/staff

The spread Eagle went above and beyond opening up at a time to accommodate my dads wake. The Buffett food was great, a lovely spread catering for everyone and the service was fantastic. The Spread is a lovely Village pub with a lot of history but still close enough to many towns to come and visit. Since the new owners, the food is lovely and great sized portions, the atmosphere is great and they cater for children and dogs (in one side should you not like dogs, the restaurant is dog free)

Had Sunday lunch with all the family for dads birthday. Dinner was lovely well priced and the staff were excellent. Will be going back for more .

Wow wow wow, I cannot find the right words to describe this lovely place. A couple of friends and I visited frequently over the past couple weeks after hearing about it on Facebook, and we have now made it our regular. Not only are the prices fair, the quality of service is one of the best I’ve received. The staff are helpful and went out their way to ensure my night was thoroughly enjoyable and were there to help with any request we had. The atmosphere is current and fresh, which is created through the personable nature of the staff and the open and well decorated interior. I cannot recommend a visit to this wonderful place more, whether you’re coming alone, with friends or a family meal; whatever you do, you will definitely enjoy it.

Perfect place to take the family for a nice meal out. All staff are very welcoming and were always happy to help. Together with a couple of friends, we visited this pub as it holds a quiz on a Thursday night, and as our usual pub is currently out of action, we needed an alternative to get our weekly pub quiz 'fix'.

Back again after 3 years,serving better meals now great choice on the menu food was cooked to perfection and great value for money staff were very polite, Helena was very helpful & polite at all times ,great selection of drinks at the bar would recommend this place to all .Best home cooked chips i've had in a long time won't be long before we are back .keep up the good work at the spread.

Traditional Sunday lunch in a lovely pub with great Yorkshire puddings. Incredibly busy due to a recent Facebook post but Helena the waitress gave us a timeframe and it was worth the wait. Would recommend the apple crumble too. Tx

We were a bit apprehensive as the last time we ate here was about 3 years ago and it was dire then. New owners. New chef. Less clutter. No bloody football blaring out in the lounge while we were eating makes a huge difference to the ambience. Menu was much smaller and I have to say, the food was excellent. The patè was superb. The mussels lovely. My wife had the ribwyw. Not cheap but it melted and a decent portion. Homemade chips were nice. I

I can not recommend this place enough! It's absolutely amazing. The best steak I have ever had. Me and my partner both enjoyed every aspect, the food, atmosphere and the staff are so lovely and welcoming. The new management has completely turned this place around and we will be returning week after week.

Visited a couple of weeks ago on a Thursday for a catch up with a friend who lives in the village. Small but well executed menu; I had the homemade burger and my friend had fish and chips - both were excellent. We were made to feel really welcome by the staff and ended up staying on for the quiz. A fantastic evening in a great little pub. Brilliant.

We had an excellent meal this evening. I had hunters chicken which came with vegetables, chips & salad, my husband had sirloin steak which was cooked to perfection - came with all the trimmings. We both had cheesecake for dessert, just the right size portion.

We booked the Spread Eagle for a meal out on a Saturday evening to celebrate a 40th birthday with a group of friends. The pub is under new management and they went above and beyond to ensure we had an enjoyable night. Allowing us to come down earlier in the day to decorate the tables so we could surprise the birthday girl.

My son and his wife told me to try The Spread Eagle in Cottingham, as they just had had an excellent lunch there .

First visit and certainly won’t be the last. A warm welcome from the host the moment we arrived which was nice to receive given the all to common indifference when you usually walk into a pub/restaurant these days. Good quality food cooked exactly how we like. Two adults the wrong side of 50 and a fussy teen all left the Spread Eagle with smiles and a feeling of just eating a very good home cooked meal. Well done landlord and team.

This was our first trip back to the "spread" after it being under new management. We weren't disappointed, far from it. A warm welcome from friendly staff greeted us. I won't say a large comprehensive menu, but adequate choices for most peoples tastes. I went for the wild boar sausages, salad, chips and onion rings, and a better more tasty meal out i hadn't enjoyed for a long time. Sylv went for steak with mash and salad. Her empty plate also spoke volumes as to "its" quality and enjoyment. We will certainly be singing their praises to anyone who fancies a meal out.

Having looked at other establishments that provide lunches , I really wasn't expecting too much , but to my surprise it was lovely . it was my husbands birthday and we didn't want just a burger and frozen chips . Well forget that ,we had a delicious meal of quality and taste . I can recommend the cod , and my husband chose the sausages and mash he said it was really tasty. I would recommend a visit to anyone looking for good food at a good price served by a very nice host , who gave us a very warm welcome . I'm looking forward to visiting for the Sunday roast I hear its really special.

As my former local, I thought it worth trying “The Spread” again. After all its recent woes its great to see it thriving again. So my wife and I decided to try the Sunday lunch out after hearing that they a a chef again from “the outlaws,” who had used it for the blue rinse lunch on a Friday. Got to say it was excellent, traditional beef and Yorkshire pud withe plenty of nice vegetables served separately, roast parsnips in particular were delicious. We had chocolate brownie and sticky toffee pudding for desert both generous portions. All in all a very nice experience given the recent turmoil surrounding “ the Spread”.

My wife and I dined at the Spread Eagle for Sunday lunch and were very happy with both the food and the service. The food was good quality, well prepared and well presented. Service was also prompt. Since the current management took over the pub has improved vastly. Its especially nice to see the improvements to the bar area, making it both family and dog friendly. Has the makings of a very good space in which to spend a relaxing time.

Since being under new management, I have eaten here 3 times, each time the food has been superb. Good portion size and good value for money. Its a lovely pub and the staff are amazing. I would definitely recommend a visit. I will most certainly be going back

We heard The Spread Eagle was under new management so we thought we'd give it another go. We didn't regret it! The atmosphere was so friendly and we were all made to feel so welcome, including the children. The decor was lovely and clean and the food was amazing and reasonably priced. Booked us in last minute. Lovely area for dog. Fabulous food and friendly, helpful staff. Highly recommend now under new management. New menu delicious and very reasonable prices. Pop in and they will accommodate. Not to be missed. Great dog walks in area too. Lovely pool table and pub games for kids too.

Came for a last minute Sunday dinner with friend's, the food and service was incredible. One of my friends has a few food intolerances, the waitresses asked what kind of food my friend could have and spoke the the chief to make something not on the menu, they made her a lovely meal. We will definitely be back.

The Spread Eagle is under new management and was recommended by friends. Four of us, all senior citizens, decided to try the Senior Lunch, which is served from Wednesday to Saturday. We were not disappointed. The portions are small but quite adequate and at £7.95 for two courses or £9.95 for three courses the prices are very reasonable. Please see the attached photo for the full menu. Service was friendly and courteous and I would definitely go there again .

We decided to try the Spread Eagle after its recent change of owner and refurb for lunch . How delighted we were to discover that there was a "pensioners special " board , two courses for £7.99 . After settling down we placed our order and must say we were a little apprehensive having never dined here for about three years . Well all we can say that if we could give it ten stars then we would . The food was freshly cooked ,piping hot and delicious . This combined with a warm welcome from staff made for a most enjoyable visit . Would return in a heartbeat and recommend .

Hi... after seeing the food going out over a few weeks and hearing the conversations from people eating hear we decided to go for Sunday lunch.

Went to spread eagle last night with my wife for a meal,was surprised by the quality of the cooking, delicious, my wife had a cider braised pork belly and I had gourmet burger for our main and both mushrooms and pancetta starters could not recommend this little gem highly enough (I even had a dessert) the young ladies that served us were polite and attentive but not in an annoying way as sometimes can happen,really good produce at a very reasonable price, will definitely be visiting again.. Probably Wednesday grill night 2 for £15.loking forward to going again soon.

I had heard that the spread eagle had a new chef so we thought we would give it a try. They are doing all fresh produce now and it shows. Ignore previous reviews as they have changed concept. The cod was beautifully presented and my wife’s winter salad and goats cheese starter looked and tasted fab!

Went for a thurs night drink. Staff friendly nice pint. What spoilt evening was the ‘pub quiz organiser’ deciding to set up next to our table. As we’d not been before didnt know this was the ‘pub quiz’ table. A polite request to move to another table would have sufficed. Instead large speaker placed next to our table and other associated kit.

My friend and I visited early on a Saturday evening. We were served quickly, food was excellent, as was the service. Perfect for what we wanted

So the mr had planned for us to eat out for our anniversary on a saturday night, sadly there was no actual planning, we drove from one place to another around corby and uppingham obviously everyone booked, finally I rang these guys and luckily they had openings. So we looked at the menu (im starving, in a mood and tired as I had been at work that morning) and it reminded me of back in the day when I worked in harpers brook and their terrible microwave menu so I let the mr choose.

Food was okay and so was service we were a group of 14, they managed us well but left before it got busy if it does,

NEW MANAGEMENT EXCELLENT. I went for lunch with 6 friends which we booked. Excellent food. Excellent Service. The staff were very accommodating I believe the lady that served us was called Katie nothing was any trouble. We had forgotten to order something in and the lady sorted immediately.

I popped into the Spread Eagle a couple of nights ago to see a menu and have a pint. What a lovely difference from the old management with very tasteful decoration and very friendly staff. We visited the pub today for lunch with friends and had a lovely meal which was 5 Star ☆☆☆☆☆ quality and good value for money. I have already told friends that when we meet in a few weeks we will be having a meal at the Spread Eagle!

Fuimos un viernes por la noche como a las 6:00 p.m. fue informada por un hombre que no había bar CHEF o cualquier gerente de las instalaciones. Entonces, él nos informó de los pubs que fuera en su lugar de visita fuera de desperdiciar nuestro tiempo esperando a ver si alguno de ellos. No era la primera y última visita fue impresionado por el perro descansa sobre el piso y donde la comida era para ser servido. Realmente repugnante en una noche de residuos!!

Quaint pub and good food, ample portion at reasonable price. The cajon chicken was delicious. The girl who served us was also working behind the bar so she was quite busy but was very pleasant .

Visitamos los martes por la noche (5 de julio) para el cumpleaños de amigos. Éramos 13, y 2 niños. Todo el personal del bar y los camareros nos encontramos era realmente servicial y amable. Se dieron todas las comidas, todas exactamente salieron al mismo tiempo y eran todos caliente! Había 14 comidas y platos 2 lateral para £95 (2 por 1). El personal trajo el pastel para nosotros al final de la comida y no la mente cuando rompimos la factura a pagar. Muy buen servicio, bien hecho chicos!

Prawn Cocktail was stuffed with huge slices of tomatoes and cucumber, no side dish so my partner had to remove them and leave them on the place mat, she took the dish away and left the mat and then started shouting at him in his face that she had to clean that up!! Hence we left, I've heard a lot of complaints about the staff

Gordon Ramsay should use this place for his kitchen nightmares program, I can not put into words how bad our experience of this place was. Food for 13 people ordered which was a hassle in itself as the barmaid informed us that the chef was in a fowl mood and would not accept any requests to tweek are order I think personally she was scared to ask him, after 45 minute wait the starters arrived which were ok nicely cooked, once starters finished and some half an hour later the waitress informs us that they do not have enough meat left to give one of our party his mixed grill even though a party of three arrived after us and ordered 2 mix grills and were tucking into them in front of us, once we had changed our order it was a further 15 minutes when the waitress appeared with more bad news they had no barbecue chicken left so again we had to change our order and also complain that we had ordered some 90 minutes ago and they were still not producing any main meals we hoped they would be out shortly how wrong we were.

Cenamos aquí cuando estés en Middleton y no podíamos creer lo bueno relación calidad-precio que era. Las porciones eran enormes! Sí, es comida de pub pub grub pero bueno. Ofertas especiales durante la semana. Los precios de las bebidas también eran muy razonables. Precios muy buenos filetes. Lo recomiendo sin duda.

Struggled to find somewhere to eat last night so our group tried this place. Sorry it was a big mistake. Cheap but dire. Food was cold, I tried the lasagne (not served as I thought is normal in a separate dish) but dished out complete with very burnt edge. The surly lady plonked another pot of mixed sauces on the table when my husband politely asked for some mustard, which on investigation did have one sachet of mustard, but was also messy with sauce from another one of the sachets which must have leaked. Cutlery was also cheap and nasty. I could say more, but maybe others have had a better experience?

went for a family meal ( of 4 ) no complaints from any of us the meals were superb service was also excellent staff were really helpful, they did say there would be a longish wait for food due to a party of 26 the helpful waitress did say if we ordered soon we would not have a long wait food came in roughly 30 mins.we will be back again soon.menu choice, prices & service were superb.

Arrived about ten minutes before food was being served, the bartender checked with the chef and we were able to sit and place our order.There were 5 of us and the food was outstanding, one of the steaks needed to go back as it wasn't cooked as ordered, it was Corrected quickly.I would recommend the steaks.

Visited this pub twice while we were back in the UK visiting family. Curry night on Tuesday was excellent value for money and very tasty. Visited again before returning to Cyprus and enjoyed another steak meal.

I used to work as a waitress in this pub years ago and it had a great reputation. It has fairly new owners who have made a great job of renovating the place but the food is diabolical. I have had 3 meals here and could barely eat it. I never did get a desert that was supposed to be included with my meal. By the time I had eaten my main the barman had gone home and it was like the marie celeste as there was no one else eating except mye and my friend and we couldn't another member of staff to ask. Went back for lunch this year not by my choice and it had not improved. Wont be back!

Read reviews and have to say I disagree with them .... the food was amazing service was to pub restaurant standard ... on the other hand, my company was 'shocking' so WONT BE GOING BACK ... with him... but I will deffo going back for the food x

I am shocked by the reviews that I have just read, as I found this pub to be very good. I have eaten in some very renowned establishments & travelled fairly extensively over the years and paid much more for much less for the meal and/or the service has not been up to it's reputation! I do no the current landlord has recently taken this pub over, so maybe that's why some others had a bad experience. They may have visited when it had a different landlord? I visited this pub twice during my stay with a friend in Middleton village, Leics, it is the adjacent village to Cottingham. The prices were amazing compared to where I live Kent. Where I live you might find food almost priced the same, but not of the same quality, value and portion size as I experienced in this pub! I even got a free pudding included! Fillet steak for £13.99 is unheard of! It was even guaranteed to be tender, it was and also the lamb chops too. I have had quite a few fillet steaks in renowned expensive restaurants and they have not always been tender, but this was. No surprise as our guest house owner told us it's been taken over by a butcher! They must have employed new staff as the waitress was very sweet and pleasant and efficient. Our service was good and the bar staff were smiley. The only negative was that my friend's peas were not a very good colour but we enjoyed both our meals on both occasions we visited. The pudding was very nice also.

Sunday lunch for two. We ordered 1 roast lamb meal and 1 upgraded mixed meat meal. Both meals arrived in a reasonable time, served by an unsmiling waitress/barmaid. The roast lamb meal had more meat than the mixed meat one. Unsure of what the meats actually were we had to ask the waitress to clarify. This was futile as all the meats lacked any true flavour at all anyway. All meat is reformed slices and not sliced off the joint. Our roast potatoes were burned black and inedible. The small yorkshire pudding was not cooked thoroughly and as such was stodgy and tasted very strongly of flour. The veg was all fresh and hot unlike the rest of the meal. No sauces were available, which we think very poor. The upgraded meal price includes a dessert of your choice from the menu shoved in your face when you enquire with the unsmiling waitress. We certainly do not recommend the apple pie with icecream. The 'pie' was very stodgy contained apple sauce and the icecream a very curious vivid coloured orange flavour. One mouthful was more than enough. Admittedly the price of our meal seemed too good to be true, the quality was quite possibly the worst we have experienced in many years of pub cuisine. Overall the surroundings were clean and pleasant. Perhaps a chef who cares about what is produced and the waitress attended some type of hospitality course things could be much improved.... we shall never know as we prefer to spend our hard earned cash somewhere where our custom is appreciated.
