Spinnaker Cafe in Portsmouth

Been coming here for a while now, the place is literally spotless well decorated very comfortable and staff are very friendly. The food they serve is perfect, they allow well behaved dogs in which is great as i pop in there when walking my choc lab, what would be a nice touch is to have WiFi as I’ve noticed when waiting for my food I can’t browse my phone as the 4G in the area is poor but thats obviously nothing to do with the cafe. While on a short break in Portsmouth this place was recommended to us a a nice place to get a breakfast.The place was immaculate inside and the staff friendly and helpful.The food was piping hot (full English breakfast) and tasty. The breakfast was not greasy and cooked how I asked for it(crispy bacon).This is a place I would not hesitate to recomend

Large breakfast and open sandwich with a coffee and a tea. Delicious and must return more often. Quick service well cooked hot food. Swaps available ie don’t want sausage swap for egg or whatever!

busy at lunchtime obviously so had to queue a bit to get served. friendly service, had to wait a while for the food but as we were on holiday that was no issue. Food portions were very reasonable and quality was good. Would go there again if passing.

Love this place. The ladies are always very welcoming, the coffee is amazing and the breakfast is the best in Portsmouth. Worth every penny. Highly recommend.

We did wait 15/20 mins for a table but it was well worth the wait. Loads of choice on menu and such friendly lovely service. The food was excellent and we were all made to feel so welcome.

Lovely breakfast.. Family of 6. The toilets were clean. The food and drinks arrived to our table quickly. We sat outside with a view of the sea. Staff all wore masks and the cafe was clean. Tables outside were dirty, as were the chairs but I used my own wipes and that was no issue for me. Over friendly seagulls taking food from an abandoned tray on the table beside us the children found that hilarious, other cafe goers, not so much Coffee hot, food hot ! I would say, salad & crisps with your breakfast Ham and Cheese toasties not expected! Would go back again!

Beautiful breakfast perfectly cooked great staff and great coffee which was enjoyed in a very clean and well managed cafe which is just a stones throw away from my favourite view. Whats not to love about my new must go place

Walking past the Spinnaker café the aroma of sizzling bacon and fresh coffee set that taste buds alight.What was supposed to be a lunch at The Spice Island Inn, was temporarily postponed whilst we ventured into the café to find out more.Bacon and egg sandwiches washed down with coffee were ordered.....what can I say...perfectionThick-cut bacon, TWO eggs, served on a granary bread to die for, accompanied by strong tasty coffees.We repaired to the seafront, feated on our breakfast of Kings and walked to The pub, already sated.Definitely worth a visit, great quality food, cooked to perfection, impeccably presented, great staff....isn't that what we all crave from any eating establishment we visit

The positive is the portions and drinks were ok but i had the spiniker tower burger which looked great but had no taste to it and was on the dry side.

Great breakfast (maybe the best in Portsmouth)! Great service! I can't wait to go there again and again.

Me and my partner ordered two Bacon, sausage and egg sandwiches with a Latte and a Tea (which where Tiny cups) for £16 which is absaloutley disgraceful absaloute extortionate prices for a start then we had to wait 25mins and by the time it was ready they forgot the Bacon. We felt absaloutley robbed. When back in Portsmouth we definitely won't be coming back here.

Ended up parking outside the cafe in a final stop before a mad rush to get a ferry.After quickly ordering, they rustled up a freshly made sandwich and I was on my way after a few minutes. When I got to ferry I was very impressed, decent doorstop sandwich packed with meat and the largest slab of cake. I wouldn’t call myself fussy, but I rarely go out of my way to leave a review for lunch on the go....but the food and service were great. Thank you!

Eggs and Toast OK, bacon and sausages had been cooked hours ago and hash browns were swimming in oil. Bacon was nearly all fat and flavourless...Really disappointing.

Tasty lunch in old Portsmouth! Lovely small cafe with very friendly staff. Big variety of food in their menu. We had a yummy Brie, bacon and cranberry panini and a good quality coffe!!! We’ll be back

Popped in before going up The Spinnaker as this cafe is at its base and opens beforehand. We felt c-19 taken seriously. Good caffeinated and decaf coffee. Lots to see with the harbour view right beside us.

Hace unas semanas hicimos un pedido anticipado de sándwiches para llevar y el viernes pasado mi compañero y yo comimos allí.El servicio es siempre excelente con una cálida bienvenida tanto del personal de recepción como de la gente encantadora en la cocina. Estúpidamente olvidamos nuestras mascarillas y muy amablemente nos dieron una a cada uno.La comida es excelente. Siempre tenemos uno de los desayunos cocinados (el mío siempre es grande), los huevos siempre están perfectamente cocidos, un buen tocino espeso, la opción de tomates frescos o enlatados y pan frito o tostadas también es un toque encantador.Hemos comido en todo Southsea y este es nuestro lugar al que ir para desayunar.Gracias al personal y los propietarios y estamos deseando volver.

For such a small café they have a good few items that are gluten free and that I can eat. Love their coffee.

Desayuné mucho, mi esposa tenía panini. Tocino de primera calidad. Todo muy bueno. UN una salchicha de Norfolk más carnosa sería el mejor desayuno de todos los tiempos. Buen vfm

This lovely little cafe is one of Portsmouth's true gems. We go here for breakfast as the variety and quality of what's offered is really good. Reasonable prices too! Clean and covid-19 safe too. Great location in Old Portsmouth with harbour views

Como lugareño, he visto este lugar pasar por muchas formas, pero no he visitado para comer durante años y años.Un amigo lo sugirió para el brunch y estoy muy contento de que lo hayan hecho.El menú es mucho más que una cafetería, la comida es fresca y sabrosa.La comida era perfecta, hicieron frente a nuestra petición con ligeros cambios en los platos del menú.Los precios son razonables.Las precauciones de Covid son excelentes, la señora que dirigía el lugar tenía un tranquilizador equilibrio entre mandona / educada.No me puedo quejar del Spinnaker Cafe y definitivamente lo visitaré nuevamente.

We had a good snack at the Spinnaker Cafe. They did very good toasted tea cakes and coffee. If you sit by the window you have a good view of the ferries going to Gosport and the Isle of Wight

It is the best breakfast place for me in Portsmouth.Nothing fancy or pretentious....just a normal clean cafe serving great basic English breakfast,hot,tasty and delicious!And very good coffees too.People are very friendly,genuine and down to earth.I love it,definitely go back again....of course its got the beautiful view of the Spinnakar Tower and the Queen Elizabeth Carrier.

Fabulous as always. Small breakfast which was ample for £5, freshly cooked sausage, nice thick bacon, beans, fried egg and choice of toast or fried bread l. Booked a couple of tables beforehand as we were a large work group. Gluten free menu also available. Spot on!

First visit today despite living locally for 40+ years , even with the bad weather the place was packed at 10.30 The service was fab , staff so friendly, immaculately clean , a really varied menu and the breakfast was so tasty , hot and reasonably priced , it may have been my first visit today but definitely wont be my last !! One of the best breakfast in Portsmouth without a doubt. It’s not the cheapest but it’s up there with the best. Lovely service as well.

We came here because our Holiday Inn breakfast deal was too expensive. We got a fantastic set of cooked breakfasts with a wide variety of options. For Portsmouth, the prices were very reasonable.The service was warm and friendly, the food was delicious. One improvement might be the addition of a barista machine for the coffee, however the automatic machine they had made great coffee, so it's no real loss.It's a small venue of perhaps 34 seats, so it is noisy and atmospheric. But this just adds to the atmosphere. The great location allows you to look out onto Portsmouth Harbour and the Spinnaker Tower and it is just a few minutes walk from Gunwarf. Highly recommended.

Popped in for lunch while out Christmas shopping. Despite being in the middle of the day when it was extremely busy, we were seated quickly, order taken and food brought out very promptly. Our panini and jacket potato were delicious. I highly recommend this cafe to anyone visiting Old Portsmouth.

We came down to Portsmouth to do the Victory 5 mile road race. As we had stopped overnight we were looking for somewhere to have breakfast. I am so pleased I looked on Trip Advisor, it was a great breakfast, freshly made to order and a big cup of tea. Good value, definitely worth it. Lovely cakes too.

Buen "desayuno inglés a la antigua" ¡Creo que he encontrado el mejor lugar para desayunar en Portsmouth! El servicio es excelente y la comida siempre se sirve rápidamente y con una sonrisa Es imprescindible actualizar a la salchicha de los carniceros, mi única queja es que la salchicha de los carniceros debe venir con el desayuno, si te gusta un desayuno tradicional cocinado adecuadamente (no nadar en grasa , Luke cálido, etc.) debes probarlo! Es el mejor !

Gran lugar para té y pasteles y para ver pasar el mundo. Con base en la base de la torre de spinnaker, si tienes personas que no están ansiosas por subir a la torre sentadas en el café, no es aburrido, ya que puedes ver todos los barcos que pasan y te interesan. Hicimos eso, y el personal de la cafetería fue muy amable y servicial.

Afternoon tea was delicious, service was excellent, the view superb. It was a wonderful experience and we both had a lovely time.

Fab food with lovely staff who treat you as though you`re the best thing thats ever happened to them! Clean. Chefs on view. Extensive menu with specials.

I had been unable to get a place in the busy cafe in Spinnaker proper so I decided to try the cafe at the entrance. It was busy and offered a fairly varied lunch menu. I had an excellent crab salad and was very happy with the result.

Myself and my wife came here for breakfast with our dog. The food was lovely and the staff were great. 10/10 and will be going back.

There was no food at this cafe other than those having afternoon tea, I was unsure if that was because it was later in the day or if it had to be pre booked, there was no explanation offered. The selection of tea seemed small, no chamomile or green tea however the view was obviously beautiful.

I was working close by and like going here for coffee and a bite.

Our son and daughter-in-law took us for breakfast here. What a joy. Lovely people and food cooked to order. There was no pressure to leave and the service was excellent. The food was piping hot and utterly delicious. Highly recommended.

Popped in for a bite to eat after a disappointing pint in the Still and West. Always carry cash so did not worry whether card machine not working (see review below). Chose a ham and cheese sandwich. The sandwich was large, well filled and with salad and dreamy, creamy coleslaw. The crusty bread was lovely and soft in the middle. The service was excellent.

The portions are a good size they cater for vegetarian and the all day breakfast kept me going, will be back

We had a good breakfast here on two consecutive days. Very healthy portions of well cooked fresh food, well presented. But it is the bright, clean, smart appearance of the cafe, and the extremely cheerful, friendly and attentive staff who make the difference. A real gem of a cafe in a good location in Old Portsmouth.

Twice this month I have driven to this cafe with the hope of eating - both times unsuccessful. First visit, card machine not working, no cash on me and no cash points that are close when walking with small children in the rain. Second attempt, asked if I had reserved a table. Never knew you would have to reserve a table for a cafe/ all day breakfast. Felt a bit silly when I recommended the place to family members. Two occasions of disappointment, therefore won’t go out of my way to try and visit for a third attempt.

Service is really nice. My son enjoys here everytime we visit. Food is acceptable and the view great. Definitely recommend

I ate here for lunch with my brother and it was very comfortable and pleasant. Service was quick and reasonably priced, plus the large breakfast was an excellent option. It offers much more authentic food than the common food chains in the nearby gunwharf quays. I recommend for a quick and easy lunch

Stopped again at the spinnaker on the way to the ferry. Again a very good lunch. Chicken bacon and avocado salad was wonderful. Had to rush off to ferry but they were happy to put our lunch in takeaway boxes. Very good gluten free bread too.

After looking for a lunch in Gunwarf it seemed this was best values for money and not another chain restaurant.

Staying locally, we were given this fine recommendation by our host, and true to his suggestion, it was everything one could hope for in a restaurant.

Lovely fine day and after a couple of pints at The Bridge Tavern I felt peckish. Came in here and ordered a bacon and egg sandwich. Two large thick slices of fresh bread, lots of bacon and two lovely soft fried eggs. It was hot, runny and so tasty. Just the thing after a beer and set me up for the day. Service was fast and friendly. Not expensive and I will use it again and again.

And very nice cake it was! Cake that was fresh and looked and tasted homemade. The Spinnaker actually ticks a number of boxes - it's dog friendly (inside and outside) with treats on the counter, it's clean, the staff are friendly and service was prompt. The only downside is that there's not much of a view (unless you sit inside at one of the tables that can see the harbour), but sitting outside in the sun watching the world go by is quite pleasant. Would definitely go back to try breakfast or a bacon sandwich.

We booked here in advance and so glad we did! We took up pretty much every seat in the cafe. We arrived promptly at 0800 when they opened and were greeted with a smile. This place is charming and the setting and furnishings are all light and bright. I think they laid on extra staff as they knew we were going to descend upon them so that was lovely and so professional. The food was great and all cooked to order. One of the team even brought a booklet to show us local photos as she could see we were interested in the history of the area. Paid £5 for a small breakfast (which was ample for me) and £1.75 for a mug of tea. If they could get a website up and running they would get even more trade I am sure. Looking forward to our next visit already.

Visited with my wife and young kids and found it clean, friendly and good value. Staff had booster seat for my youngsters without having to be asked and food was good, hot and fresh. Used to visit on occasion when working locally and it was always the same!

He visitado el spinnaker durante muchos años y nunca tuve un problema con el servicio / comida.

Fuimos el Viernes Santo ya que el restaurante Brasserie Blanc no desayuna los viernes, ya que nos enteramos cuando fuimos allí. Esto tuvo suerte ya que este lugar es brillante! Tuve el gran desayuno que estaba recién preparado y de hecho es grande. Con cuidadosa comida lenta terminé el lote. Cada pieza era deliciosa. Los camareros son felices y amables y el servicio fue bastante rápido, aunque llegamos justo después de un grupo de seis 30 muchachos algo con voces fuertes. En general, fue una gran comida y volveremos y se lo diremos a todos nuestros amigos.

Estábamos buscando una merienda / almuerzo y encontramos esta pequeña joya por casualidad. Dos trabajadores locales sentados afuera lo recomendaron, así que entramos. Estaba ocupado pero el personal nos encontró una mesa. Había una buena selección de panecillos, sándwiches, así como productos para el desayuno y el almuerzo. Fuimos para las salchichas y puré de Cumberland y nos alegramos de haberlo hecho. El servicio fue muy amable y tenía un distintivo "local".

We found this place by chance on a recent visit to Portsmouth. We were looking for a good reasonably priced lunch, and we certainly found it! The staff were friendly, the service was good, and the food was gorgeous. I had a baked potato with cheese, which came with a lovely salad. We asked for a pot of tea for 2, and were given a huge pot which certainly quenched our thirst. Couldn't manage a desert, but saw some around us which looked good. Can definitely recommend this place,

My wife and I have used this cafe three times now. The first time was just for coffee the others were for breakfasts. You just can’t fault this cafe, excellent service from the staff, friendly, polite and thorough. The quality of the food is good as is the presentation. You do wait longer for your food but as it’s cooked fresh it’s well worth it. Looking forward to our next visit.

If you're after a homely cafe with a good range of home cooked food reasonably priced and served with a smile then this is the place for you. It's situated in Spice Island, Old Portsmouth, near the Camber Dock. After eating just stroll over to watch the continual movement of various seagoing vessels, enjoy a fantastic view of Gunwharf, Gosport, the port and Portsdown Hill in the distance.

A returning visit to this amazing but small cafe ! We had the small breakfast which was plenty big enough for us but if not they do a large and an extra large breakfast ! The food is cooked fresh and the staff are very polite ! Only downfall is the size of the cafe it's a small gem ! Love this cafe

My father & I dined here on two occasions. We were greeted with a warm welcome both times and the friendly staff took our order without delay. The food came well presented and tasty. To top it off, the price was perfect. We will come again soon!

Found ourselves in Portsmouth collecting an item locally. Decided to grab a bite at the bottom of the spinnaker tower. Really pleasantly surprised. Great sandwich, generous portions of tasty food for a reasonable price. Great outlook over the harbour watching the ferries going in and out.

We arrived very early in the morning and after a peaceful walk on the promenade to watch the sunrise (and to wake up !) we were happy they opened at 8. Very good full English breakfast. Tasty veggi as well. Vegan available. Large choice on the menu, many things homemade. Interresting things for lunch. Sweat staff

My wife and I Popped into spinnaker cafe just for a coffee and toasted tea cakes on Wednesday 2nd ofJan. The welcome was amazing as was the service. Best coffee we have had in ages. We decided to go back two days later to try a full breakfast and was not disappointed. The welcome, service and quality of the food was excellent. We will definitely go back next time we visit in March.

Although I have no complaints about the breakfasts on Brittany Ferries, on this trip we are spending a few days in Portsmouth so decided to eat ashore.

Dreaded taking out two veggies and a gluten free for a full English, but the spinnaker Cafe pulled it off with style. great food, excellent service and VFM.

Gluten free lunch we had a full English staff at the restaurant so understanding about allergies I also have a dairy allergy so they made sure I had dairy free spread on my toast if you have allergies I would highly recommend this restaurant

We popped in to check out the Spinnaker cafe and how surprised were we , the meals were fantastic ! It’s a small cafe but once you get a seat the food is amazing the breakfast were very big and we only had the large there was an extra large on offer ! The wraps and Jacket spuds came with a lovely fresh side salad there was nothing to fault all food is cooked fresh and the cafe is very clean and staff very helpful and polite ! We will be back !

Located in The Old Town came across this café whilst out walking. It was busy and we were sat around a corner and seemed like we had been forgotten by the staff. Waited a long time to place an order. When the food came it was good hot and a decent portion.

Have been many times and it offers good quality food with quick efficient service, either as a take away or at table seating. Well located for the Old Town area, but perhaps a little on the expensive side for a seaside cafe.

El entorno agradable se sentó en el café, se ve la torre de spinnaker, fue un hermoso día soleado y se sentó afuera. Estaba muy ocupado, pero el hielo de la calle era rápido y el personal muy amable. Buen menú, pero tal vez un poco caro, pero la comida era buena y sabrosa y recién hecha y mi marido disfrutó de su té crema. Fue un lugar agradable con buenas vistas y volveremos.

In Portsmouth to catch the ferry to Santander. Lovely day so the 4 of us did a walk along the front and spotted the Spinnaker Cafe. We were immediately attracted to it, it looked so fresh, clean and inviting with a lovely menu. No loud music around, such friendly helpful staff. We just had coffee and scones. The scones were delicious. It was just one of those special finds, it just felt so right. A lovely start to our holiday.

The cafe had been recommended as good value for money conveniently near Gunwharf Quays. We called at a busy lunch time. No space at first for three together, but other customers kindly moved around a bit.The staff were very helpful. There were some seats outside in the sun but they were full. All customers appeared to enjoy being there. We just wanted a light snack and there were a wide range of lunch choices, ie snack size, or larger meals and desserts. Service was quite quick, we enjoyed our meals.

I wanted a Full English that gave me both quality produce and in a relax cafe environment.
