We were given the upstairs group room. The room was spacious a bit outdated need modernising but a bit cold even with heaters hence most of us wearing coats. The restaurant offers a buffet style menu with different food, salads, sides and desert on offer. The food catered for the fuzzy needs of our group and everyone was happy with options. It was well laid out and spacious to move around when getting food. The service from staff was great when we needed things upstairs as its hard to keep going down for food items downstairs. The price per person was very reasonable and the manager was also kind enough to give us a group discount. A wonderful place for friends and family with great food. Parking is available in the near by car park.

No speaker available on the day. Not informed prior to my event. Manager more concerned with the many bookings he had for that day. Pure lack of organisation which cost me an hour of my day. Should have been re-imbursed for that hour but had to pay 100 pounds for the extra hour. We pay for the buffet and drinks arent even provided (3 50 each per 2 litre). Not impressed with the customer service really. They should take better care of their customer requests and inform them of any changes prior to the day.

Firstly as soon as I walked in the manager came to me I told him we had a booking my husband was parking the car so it was just me and 2 children in the foyer. He immediately said to me can you eat and leave within one hour. I said no I can not I have kids and they eat slower to which he said well you only get 90mins anyway. Again I told him no and if he had a problem he could speak to my husband when he came. Other Asian families came and were not greeted this way so it must just be the fact I was the only white person in the venue. Secondly they have dishes on the website which are not available even though we called prior and was told menu was on website. There are no non spicy options available there is no butter chicken or masala so if you don't like lots of spice the only thing you can eat is fried chicken and chips which is what our daughter had to eat. The most expensive chicken and chips. The food that they had was ok at a push. The waitress then came to me after we had been sitting for 80 mins and told me the next people had arrived and were waiting for our table. Obviously I refused to leave until the 90mins were up which is not stated anywhere that you only have 90mins but there are numerous mis spelt signs stating they will charge you an extra 5 pound if you don't eat your food as wastage is haram apparently lieing and being ignorant isn't. As we were leaving someone was getting married in there which is the real reason the so called manager wanted us in and out. When leaving there was space for one person to go through I went to go through and the manager came through so I had to wait. Customer service is non exsistant. Food want not great. All in all would not waste my time in this dive ever again.

It was quite busy so we did have to wait for seats but it was all worth it at the end as they had a variety of desserts, mains & sides. My wife is a vegetarian and they had a selection to choose from in vegetarian dishes which were delicious. We were appeased by all of this and will definitely visit again. It was our third visit to Spice Village. It was a Friday evening so I rang ahead to find out if they will have fish pakoras (as they were my daughter's favourite from past visits) and was told that they would. Much to our dismay when we got there we found out that there are no fish pakoras on weekdays. We were told that the owner's grandson spoke to us on the phone and didn't realise that fish pakoras are only available at the weekends. We were pleasantly surprised to be told they will make it especially for us and brought a plateful over to our table. They tasted absolutely delicious and fresh.

We had a family function here for around 30 people. We used the upstairs function room which was more than spacious for all our guests. We were able to set up before hand which was convenient. There was a vast variety of food on offer. As it’s a buffet system were were told all our guests would need to go and get their food from downstairs. However the service and all the waiters were exceptional. They were very helpful (especially the two lady waitresses). Our main server was Amir Khan who went above and beyond to cater for us. He even served us food upstairs. The food was delicious. Such a variety of differyfoods on offer. As a family we cannot thank them enough for how well they catered for our needs especially as it was a Saturday night and downstairs was absolutely heaving!

We visited their Ilford branch to do a takeaway taster food for the family. We met the manager who informed us that we should've come to him instead of Nauman. We had to cancel the birthday party on the scheduled date due to unforeseen circumstances and we notified Nauman. Again, no response from them. Since my last visit to the Spice Village on High Road, Ilford things have gone somewhat downhill at this buffet, all you can eat, restaurant. The menu being advertised on their website is VERY misleading. A number of the items are not being served at the restaurant and when asked about this the staff are either being obtuse or genuinely are not aware of what is on their website. The Chinese selection is non- existent. The Kulfi ice-cream is not served. The "choice of ice creams" is a sad lonely looking tub of very low quality, artificial tasting ice cream sitting in a large fridge unit. The sign says "one scoop per customer" at an all you can eat restaurant! To top it all, you are requested to wait to be served this awful ice cream by a member of staff. I had half expected it to at least be Ben and Jerry's - it's not even Tom and Jerry's. The food, whilst being acceptable, has dropped in quality. We went on Friday evening ad given the lack of customers one does feel this place may be on it's last legs.

We were a big party of family and friends, and enjoyed their buffet sit down meal. The restaurant was inviting and the staff were friendly and left us to our meal. There was so much variety, from chips all the way to pasta and biryanis and curries. The food was tasty and we all enjoyed it. They had a good range of desserts as well like kheer, seviyan, trifle, jelly, ice cream and halwa (this was my personal favourite, if you're a halwa fan like me). Everything was really nice. The kebabs were tasty and the chicken drumsticks were perfect for the younger ones who can't eat spicy food. I liked the chana curry but was full from the starters that I didn't really try much of the mains but was told the dhal was nice and the paya. If I go again I would definitely try to taste every dish and not eat as much of the starters lol. My only gripe was that the high chairs are very dirty and even after the quick wipe that the guy did (not good enough in my opinion!) it was filthy! I cleaned a few myself with lots of spray and tissues (the cloth they were using was smelly and dirty!). But everything else was really good apart from this and the staff were unobtrusive yet approachable and professional.

There are a good number of starters ranging from chicken tikka to sheekh kebabs, spiced chicken drum stick, tandoori chicken pieces and more. There are number of chicken curries - ranging from medium to vey hot. There is also a good selection of lamb curries - very tender pieces of lamb. They also do a variety of decent bhirianis and also cater for kids with the usual chips. I do feel that the prices charged may e a tad too steep - not just t the Spice Village but all of the all you can eat places. Unless you have a huge appetite with mid-rift to match I do doubt that you will eat £14 worth of food.

Booked a table in advance - it was packed full on the evening so don't expect a table unless u booked. At time of booking they give you a booking number which is then placed on the table you have been allotted. You have to pay b for you eat. Drinks not included in price.A large selection of starters, mains and desserts. A good variety and regularly topped up. I never had to wait long for any dish to be topped up. Staff regularly walking around taking finished plates too. It's a bit of a squeeze around the buffet area so you have to be patient but it doesn't take long to get round. Any dishes that emptied too quickly were not the fault of the staff - just greedy customers piling plates full with no regard to others! The food itself - the grill starters were nice and tasty. The main dishes included a variety of curries (incl veg), pasta and noodles too. Nice pulao dishes too. A wide variety of salads and sauces. About six different desserts. Food was a decent temperature and the dishes relatively clean for a buffet area. We enjoyed the food - tasty, enough spice and good temperature. No frills service - too many people for any special service. Small space out front for prayers too. It is a buffet restaurant so I presume not as busy during the res of the year but I presume taste and variety is the same as it is now. I would visit again - parking available in retail car park across from restaurant with two hours free parking. I would recommend during Ramadan for Iftar. I presume quality of food same rest of year too.

We booked a table of 12, 4 days ago... Only to arrive to be taken to the table attached.... Absolute embarrassment to our guests. When we complained, the manager was extremely rude... How can any "restaurant" place 12 customers on such terrible looking tables, in a back room next to a toilet and kitchen door... How can any respectable restaurant even have such tables, or even contemplate asking diners to sit there.Having travelled 2 hours, with family from abroad, after singing the praises of the food at the Tooting location (whom we are regular customers)... Absolute Joke. Please see the picture, I kid you not...What they did was book a party in the main restaurant, but continue to take bookings, and not inform anyone, like greedy inconsiderate money grabbers... Then expect to place customers in toilets and kitchens and maybe even on the roof if they could...Very very sad service and attitude.

Here's my honest review of spice village in Ilford...... Upon arriving to the restaurant, I notice a bouncy castle, I'm guessing its for the kids...... From the outside of the restaurant, it looks like any other ordinary indian establishment, however upon entering you will most likely notice the decor as its like something you would find from a bollywood film scene, which isn't a bad thing but it will definitely make you feel like you're at an indian wedding.Ok lets get to the food, aka the meat and potatoes of this review. The majority of the food is Pakistani cuisine, but it wouldn't be a buffet without some western classics like chips and Indian inspired pasta's (avoid these seriously). There are Biriyani's, sheek kebabs, nihari, saag, lamb curries, chicken curries, naans, masala fish, chaat masala, fried chicken legs a couple of veg dishes, as well as some classic Pakistani desserts such as kheer, fruit salad, vermicelli and jelly. To me, seeing as I've been to several buffets in my lifetime, the selection seemed a little thin as alot of things were variations of the same thing I.e chicken kebab, lamb kebab, lamb curry, lamb and spinach curry. What it does have going for it, is its authentic taste, even if it isn't as spicy as you would expect (its been toned down for the masses I guess).Another thing to be wary of, is the fact that the food is very dense, as most of the food is very rich, so even though it's a buffet, you may find yourself not eating as much as you can as it becomes very filling very fast..... I am a veteran when it comes to the buffets scene and was tired of eating after my forth plate, not from the quantity but the fact that everything I was eating started to feel like it tasted all the same, thus my palate started to reject the food that was on offer.... Thing is the food is somewhat tasty but because it is rich upon rich upon rich, it makes for an incomplete and unbalanced menu offering, I don't know if that was the intention to ensure people do not eat too much or what. The drinks are not included in the price, soft drinks are priced fine but the juices and lassi's are a bit dear.... Side note we ordered a 1.5 litre Fanta but got a 2 litre which was nice.... Also when we asked for ice we received an ice bucket which was a nice touch.Ok lets get onto the non food related part of the review...... Firstly the staff..... Generally the staff are very friendly and attentive, and are there to meet your needs, for example a friend of mine who goes here quite often with his family told me they normally have paya available in the buffet, but for some reason it was not available, he asked one of the waiters why it was not available, the waiter went and checked, and told us the chef would make us some (Again nice touch) so I got to try some of the paya. However the vibe of the place screamed unhygienic, my mate told me he saw one of the waiters picking his nose with his hands (Yeah I know it's gross). Secondly the toilets there had no soap/ handwash, which basically means that the customers etc are going to the toilet, coming out without washing their hands and touching the food etc..... Not impressed at all. All in all the experience was OK at best.... When paying for our bill, I guess it was the owner or something, gave us a little bit of a discount because he had given the previous person a discount, which was nice gesture. Out of 5, I'd give it 3/5JRC Buffet is still the best in Ilford. In my opinion

We came 6 months ago for the 1st time. Good food good service for a good price. Went back again today with some other friends after they were excited to try this place hearing rave reviews from our last visit. And really Spice Village didn't disappoint. It was another 5 * food with 5 * service. The owner himself was present to greet us and took care of us really well. On to the dishes then. Masala fish, chicken and lamb kebab with chicken tikka were all excellent. Tarka Dal was cooked blended with spices which tasted amazing. Nihari and paya are two items worth going back to eat. One of our friends was really impressed he already booked the venue for an upcomong birthday party. The owner also helped us with discount which made the whole experience even better. Some ppl may comment about the lack of cake or ice cream in the dessert section but all other desserts and fruit salad makes up for it. Overall it's a winner for me. Definitely coming back.

I rarely go to a buffet restaurant as I don't like the idea of mass produced food. However was taken to this restaurant and I was very, very happy with the quality and variety of foods. With all types of meats available, my favourite Nihari cooked to perfection, there's an element of home style/tradition when it comes to this restaurant. I love to eat out at places that serve dishes that I cannot cook, so this was a real treat. Facilities are clean, nice atmosphere and friendly management. I would go back to this restaurant if I really am in one of those foodie moods. A must for anyone who wants a variety of freshly cooked food buffet style!Dinner for two including drinks came just over £25 which wasn't too bad.

Recently, I found work in a car dealership, more specifically in the sales department. As I was new, the colleagues had told me that they all have 'guys nights out' on occasions, and this seemed like a perfect occasion for us to bond. So the question came to mind 'Which restaurant shall we go to?'. It had to be a local restaurant that's established itself in the local foodie community, one with the taste of the food as good as it's interior decor. Spice village immediately popped up in my head; it's a buffet as well to add to the thrills! So it was a Friday night, my colleagues and I set out on what seemed to be a quasi-exciting night out. We head out with great optimism and had high hope of this restaurant, and oh did it deliver! We were greeted by a magnificent looking restaurant that really appealed to us all. My colleagues stared in amazement; plus the free parking put a cheerful smile on my face as well. The interior decor did not fail not impress, with sufficient amount of lighting, leather seating and a rich vibe, we knew we were in for a treat. The hospitality was great, we were greeted by the waiter upon arrival as he guided us to our table. Finally it was time to unload on the buffets! So many great dishes ranging from the populous 's favorite masala fish to the extremely tasteful lamb chili. A wide variety for any looking to endulge into a classic buffet experience. The staff were very kind and there's also a bouncy castle to make kids feel right at home. Overall, we absolutely loved it. Totally lived up to our expectations, maybe even exceeded it. Definetly recommended to anyone looking for good food at an amazing price of only 13.99 per person, considering it's an all you can eat buffet. Thank you spice village ilford for an amazing night out, we will definetly come again.

Visited as a group of 17 young and old family members. The main reason for choosing Spice Village was the fact that it is a buffet restaurant and everyone would enjoy and eat something that they like. They serve halal and are HMC certified. A good selection of Pakistani food, that was hot and refilled regularly. The starters were superb. There were no lamb chops or lamb tikka although they did have lamb dishes in the main courses. The lamb chilli was very nice. The kids loved the chips and pasta dishes. As this is a Pakistani restaurant they serve authentic Pakistani food like nihari and haleem. A great selection of salads and sauces but I think they are missing two key sauces. If they served mango and plum chutney it would be a real bonus. Personally I believe the variety of deserts were limited. I found the interior design rather dull, with black/brown tables and chairs. The bouncy castle outside kept the kids entertained and hungry. I noticed on my way into the restaurant, they had a small hand written note stating "cash only". Luckily I had enough cash to pay for the meal but which restaurant in this day and age doesn't accept card payments. Once we started eating, I asked a member of staff to take the drinks orders by asking everyone on our table individually. I waited about 5 minutes and nobody came. I then got up and went to the front desk and asked again and was told somebody would come shortly. They returned with a few drink menus. Again, we were left waiting and in the end I asked everyone on our table what they wanted and repeated the order at the front desk. I also asked if we could have a few jugs of tap water at which the person behind the till was hesitant to do but eventually agreed. I would compliment the staff for being attentive as they were quick to pick up empty plates from the table.I would suggest you call them on the day you plan to visit to find out what is on the menu as they do change this regularly.

Hi all, So visited spice village in Ilford on Friday 29th for my sister pre wedding celebrations I booked for 150 people two months prior to the date. At the time of booking (owner son took the booking) I was told no other booking will take place, no time limit would be placed on my guest, that a bouncy castle would be present and we would have access to all three rooms. Upon arrival on the day I was told by the owner I had to get all my guest out by 9pm which only gave me three hours, that his staff had taken more booking on the day and he had to fit them in. only 120 seats were provided for my guest and some had t stand outside until others finished, he had used the front to seat more customers and so the bouncy castle wasn't available. He then had the cheek to ask me if I could ask more people to leave so he could use the tables. Food wasn't great starter were almost always empty during our whole stay. He only seemed to be interested in making more money rather than providing any level of service to the customers he already had. All in all I will never be returning and I highly doubt that any of my guest will be either. Shocking Management!!!!Would not recommend any one to have a party booking here!

Booked iftari for 15 people, called a week before to book a table downstairs. Was confirmed twice over the phone that I have booking. On day was told I don't have booking. I found my name spelled wrong and correct phone number on their diary. But was still refused a table. After me getting angry They said that they can do me a favour and give me a table upstairs. I had few old guests who couldn't go up and down the stairs but was told this is it take it or go somewhere else. I am not going to recommend this to anyone. Spice village Ilford Facebook page says it's closed and now moved and rebranded to Mahal Buffet 200 high road Ilford but I think the partners have split and it's a mess.

Went on Saturday night. My experience was summed up as follows,- Only about 1 in 10 of the dishes they advertise were actually on the menu- The food that was available was made from cheap, poor quality ingredients that tasted bland- Appetisers such as sheek kebabs and samosas had clearly come out of a freezer catering bag and deep fried. Absolutely nothing was tasted fresh- Both of the above were lukewarm and at the end of the barrel, i.e. scraping up the remains or finding small pieces of meat in sauce.- Despite plenty of seating in the main decor of the restaurant, I was shafted up to an attic like room upstairs. After two small plates, I had to get out. Upon making my opinions known, the manager clearly didn't give a damn and insisted I had to pay £13.95.This is really, seriously not what you expect from a reputed establishment with branches also in Southall and Tooting, which are known curry hotspots in London. I can only hope their game is better, but after my experience in Ilford I will not even try.Do not go to this establishment in Ilford which let itself down on practically every level.

Mahal Buffetlocation-icon200 High RoadIndian

Went recently for a dinner and my group was already seated so when I walked in the door I wasn't greeted by any servers so I thought I'd just head on over to the table. There's no room to keep coats/bags so we literally had to put it behind the seats. We were a big party but the arrangement of the seats were horrible. No space for even the corner sitters to get out. Not once did a server ask me if I wanted drinks or anything; I walked into an asian jungle. I don't even think I had a glass or tissue for my seat. Anyways, I'm here for the food. Right?Straight away unlike every other buffet restaurant, the options are limited. Only starters were prawn crackers, some sheek kebabs and some chicken tikka. Prawn crackers are prawn crackers. The kebabs I actually did enjoy. The chicken is probably cooked the year prior and microwaved straight out of the freezer. Now for the pasta. I know its an asian buffet but there was some pasta there. Tomato sauce pasta too. How bad could it be? Have you even eaten CRISPY, DRY, and BLAND tomato pasta? If not, come to Mahal buffet to get your serving. Definitely not cooked on the day. Why it was even there, I dont know what theyre thinking. As for the curries and rice and what not.Only rice options are the chicken biriyani, chicken pilau and rice. I combod the chicken briyani and the chicken curry. Didn't have the chicken pilau because it looked similar to the biriyani minus some holud. I combod the plain rice individually for all the other curries (lamb nihari, chick peas, saag aloo, lamb karahi). I tired the haleem and I'm honestly not a fan of pakistani haleem, this one wasn't nice either. The chicken biriyani and curry was ok, the lamb nihari ( I love nihari) was the best thing there and very nice actually (get the lamb pieces with the fat/bones for best flavour). Everything else was just a downfall from there. Saag aloo was bland and greasy to next levels and was missing the aloo. The chickpeas was irrelevant beyond belief. These 2 curries are my favourite vegetarian options for asian cuisine but they sucked. Vegetarians avoid, you literally have no other option. The lamb karahi was so, so disappointing. All the meat fell off the bone and wasn't visible. Which is usually an ok thing because it means the sauce gets all the flavour. But how is it even possible to try the sauce if its covered in grease and oil. Worst dish there (apart from the pasta but I'm pretty sure that was meant to be rat poison). As for rat poison, I'm surprised there wasn't rats present. The place was just so annoyingly messy. The servers don't clean the tables of customers that leave, and to take the used plates from our table took way too long. It's a small restaurant, how hard could it be. Also, it was hard to distinguish the servers from customers because they were wearing jackets and jeans. These things matter!Anyways to review the curries. Aside from the excess petrol dumped into the curries, the flavours were very similar to a curry my old aunt would make if she had 5 minutes to cook something before her husband came home. No care or time goes into the food and it's apparent from the lack of flavour and depth. One thing I'll give the place though, unlike other asian restaurants, all the curries were distinct in flavour and if I did a blind test for each curry then I'd know which one is which. Quite impressive actually; only thing keeping it at a 2 star.As for the dessert there were three measly options. Halwa, kheer and some sweetened rice. Halwa was all stuck together with no flavour behind it. The kheer was ok but probably the worst restaurant kheer I've had(kheer is easy and awesome). There was nothing else! Horrible choices. The worst thing is, this place had a bunch of customers coming and going who were all most likely locals (ilford locals). No that doesn't leave me to doubt my judgement because none of us here enjoyed the food and hopefully these customers weren't repeat customers(if they respect their taste buds and arteries).Overall, I'm expecting the General Manager to reply calling me out for being affiliated with another restaurant. At the rate your food is going, I'd be affiliated to a soup kitchen and prefer it to whatever experience you guys are trying to give to your customers. Maybe change your prices to £3 per head.
