Spice Tandoori in Highland

Staying just a night in Thurso and fancied a curry. Waitress very friendly Food very good. Side dishes can be upgraded to mains, we did this with the Sag and the Tarka Dhal, very good portion sizes. Chicken Choley was lovely Naan breads are large and one between the 2 of us would have been enough Anyone with mobility issues should avoid. Restaurant is on 1st floor and is accessible by a set of very steep semi spiral stairs, helpfully toilets are on ground floor, so even if you managed the climb you’ll need to do it all again if you need the facilities Can’t speak for atmosphere as it was a very cold and wet night with only four diners. Take away was fairly busy.

It was the only one open in the entire area in early January. The restaurant was cold. But the service was nice and the food was very tasty!!

We visited on a dark stormy night to be welcomed by friendly staff and delicious food. Nothing was too much trouble, even serving special coffees to round off our meal. Thank-you we will be back.

This was bad! I paid online, then came to collect as despite saying it is on the website, delivery wasn't an option at checkout. The place was pretty gross and dirty when I walked, in which was the first red flag. The guy at the bar/reception area thing was super miserable, basically asked me what I wanted then went off to get my order. When I did get the food back home my starter was missing and the food I ordered was full of peas and sweetcorn which I can't eat (it didn't say it had either of these things in it on the menu). This isn't necessarily the end of the world, but if I had had a severe allergy it could have been dangerous. So I just didn't eat any of it. Which is lucky, because my wife did and she was then up all night and the next morning with diarrhea. Really wish I hadn't gone here, but so glad they messed up my order so I couldn't eat it. I just wish they'd messed my wife's order up too! Probably the worst takeaway experience I've ever had.

Wide choice of dishes. Depending on the type of cooking or the region, we compose the plate by choosing the sauce, the meat or fish, the rice, the accompaniments. Copious dishes, very good and served with a smile. I recommend ! NB: the restaurant is on the 1st floor without elevator.

Great Indian food! I tried the house special chicken tikka starter which was great and then the Mirchi Kurma (asked for extra hot) curry which was brilliant. Sides and drinks were good too and prompt service. Close to a 5/5 but the premises let’s it down as it looks and smells old and damp

This is the second time I have bought a takeaway from this restaurant in 3 years. 3 years ago I swore blind that I would never go back as the curry I had 3 years ago was bland and the chicken tough and stringy. Decided to give them one more go this evening (three years later) and went for a vindaloo with Pilau rice. The Pilau rice was half decent but the vindaloo bordered on "inedible" the chicken was stringy and chewy and the sauce was pretty much more akin to a Rogan Josh. The menu described the vindaloo as "very hot" but, in reality, it was mild "at best"....... very disappointed..... my main concern was the chicken, what on earth are they doing with it to make it so tough and stringy? I can appreciate that "possibly" the majority of reviews on here are from people who have "dined in" and were "possibly" under the influence of alcohol (which would explain the positive reviews) I would literally eat deep fried road kill after a night on the town and think it was the best culinary experience of my life but, trust me folks, get a takeaway at 5pm in the evening (perfectly sober) and I guarantee you that you will throw most of your "spice tandoori" curry into the bin. It's edible when you're pished and you wake up the next day thinking "best curry ever" try doing it sober, I can assure you that it's a different experience;) great place for drunk people to eat substandard food but don't expect anything special if you are sober. These people are serving up crap to drunk people.

A decent spot for indian. We found most of the curries to be on the sweet side, even though the descriptions did not say that (many did). The naan, rice and appetizers were all good.

No one will go even if I write this post. Do you think so? ? ? The location is Salsoul, the northernmost station in England. It's about a 5 minute walk from there. My sons graduated from middle school and high school here. Visiting the graves of my ex-wife's parents I went there a while ago. I went to this store for the first time, but in front of the store When I arrived, I told my husband that it was dirty so I decided to leave. When I went there, I was told that I had made a reservation and that I should go. When I entered, I noticed that there were so many customers. thought. I thought the taste was really delicious. The curry in particular is exquisite.

Das Spice Tandoori war eine Notlösung, weil in allen anderen Restaurants kein Tisch mehr für zwei Personen verfügbar war. Im Spice Tandoori war es unproblematisch einen Tisch zu bekommen. Die Bedienung ist bemüht und freundlich, doch hoffnungslos überfordert, weil einfach zu wenig (geeignetes) Personal vorhanden war. Das Essen hat dann auch lange gedauert, bis es auf den Tisch gekommen ist (spricht aber für die frische Zubereitung). Das Essen selbst war jetzt nicht aufsehenerregend. Bei mir waren lediglich drei kleine Stückchen Hühnchen in der Schale, ansonsten nur Soße. Richtig satt bin ich davon nicht geworden. Als Notlösung war das Restaurant in Ordnung, aber als erste Wahl würde ich es defintiv nicht bezeichnen wollen.

Had a nice take away on my first visit. Lady attending was very warm, helpful and chatty, with the food a memorable one. Will certainly return to the place anytime I'm in Thurso

We had a takeaway from here tonight and it was just unreal. Loads of food, including extras on the house. The food was full of flavour and big portions, not bulked out by vegetables but full of meat and paneer in the veggie dish. The best Indian food (balti) we have had in ages and we are from the Midlands.

Similar to the last review, no idea why this place has such a high score. Food was medium to be honest when it arrived, but everything leading up to that was extremely poor, and would not recommend.

Refreshing and delicious change from the usual lovely Scottish offerings. Comprehensive and very tasty menu set in a crisp and colourful restaurant with attentive and friendly staff. Highly recommend for style, flavour and excellent value.

My name is matthew and I have to say there is no words to describe the quality of the food and service. Firstly we had soup and prawn cocktail the soup was perfectly heated and unbelievably delicious the prawn cocktail was extramly well presented and the taste was fresh and delicious. For main we had chicken korma and tieka masala no please if you can go and try it and please try there mince nan it's the most delicious food ever. Epic service and service really good prices also. Coming from PERU, I definitely know about excellent food and this restaurant has great good.....!! My husband and I have visited more than 50 Indian restaurants and this is the best of all of them...!!!! And today celebrating our honeymoon we had the best dinner...!!TH

The food is amazing. We go here every time we're in Thurso. Great veggie options and a big selection of mild and spicy dishes. Staff are friendly.

On our route through SCOTLAND we tried this restaurant and were pleasantly surprised. Exquisite attention and delicious food. One of the best Indians we tried.

I cannot understand the many star reviews for this place, it is really terrible. First off the food is very poor. It is theoretical standard meat of choice + generic sauce from their supplier, microwaved up for a few minutes. Even the pickles with the poppadoms lacked taste and freshness. Nothing I saw served to us was cooked by a human, all was bought in pre prepared rubbish. So no stars for food. Service was by a young lady probably on her first ever shift, fine. But it was so rapid. 'Are you finished?' the moment after someone put their fork down. This is what she had been trained to do, and it sucks. The restaurant is upstairs and the toilets are downstairs, neither are terribly well looked after or nice. Thurso is a small town but surely someone can do better than this. I'll stick to fish and chips next time I'm in thurso, or ride on and find somewhere better.

Who would have thought that I would eat the best curry of my life in Scotland. This restaurant is an absolute recommendation, my husband also really enjoyed it. Among other things, there are also an incredible number of different rice variations. Don't be put off by the exterior, just go up to the first floor and you'll find an amazingly large and beautiful guest room.

Don't let the entrance stop you. It goes straight up the stairs and then it gets surprisingly beautiful. The food is super tasty and the menu offers plenty of choice. Service very friendly and helpful. I can only recommend.

A little late review, but I made a point that I will write a review when I got a chance. Nothing stood out in our experience. The main person at the entrance had a very condescending tone. Not sure the guy only wanted to deal with locals or what. He was in a rush to get our order and make us sit aside when there was nobody behind us. The food was no where close to authentic or even good. Not sure why you need to put edible colors when Indian cuisine is already so colorful. Do not recommend this place at all.

Do not be put off by location or frontage. This place is amazing 🤩 the food was absolute quality and staff were very attentive. Definitely will be back if in the area again. We are on the NC500 route 👍

We are regular customers of this restaurant both sit in and takeout. Tonight, after picking up my takeout and driving home( I live a few miles out of town) we discovered that my husbands Balti was missing and he had been given a Pallak, I called to tell them and was told that was what I ordered, very blunt, no apology, no offer of a replacement or recompense. I hadn’t even heard of a Pallak and my husband hates spinach, no ordering mistake was made by me. My husband ended up with no curry as he couldn’t eat it. Very disappointed with the complete lack of customer service. In this regard this restaurant has clearly gone down hill.

We were in Thurso only for one night on Sunday evening when most of restaurants are closed. Found this Indian restaurant open till late (10 pm). It was a good surprise. Lovely staff that took the time to explain us the menu and suggested what to order. Good food, welcoming people and good prices. More than recommended!

Great service and really good food! We had popadoms and pickle which arrived promptly together with 2 cold beers. Then an onion bhajee to share. For our main course we had a chicken dhansak and a chicken chasni - both very tasty. Less than 50 GBP fot the two of us which I don’t think was too bad. We’ll come again!

Had a great meal here. Friendly staff, good menu. Little choice in beer and wine, but that is common in an Indian restaurant. Hard to see from the street that this restaurant is open. Tip: at least hang a menu behind the window.

This is a favourite restaurant of ours that we also use for takeaways. Each and every time we are treated courteously, welcomed like old friends and given the best service. The food is top notch and always presented promptly but once you have it no rush to leave. The staff are so friendly but not intrusive. My son who has eaten in many cities rates this as the best in Scotland.

Always 5 stars, we are regular visitors for both sit in and takeaway and never have any problems. The staff are lovely and nothing is ever a problem! Very friendly!

It's one of the best Indian restaurant, not just for the area but in general. Ingredients are always high quality, with tender meat and tasty vegetables. They know how to cook, very capable chef. We go here often with absolutely no intention to stop!

Really rate this place, I had the King Prawn Makkani which was cooked to perfection, as was the wifes Chicken Korma. The staff were so nice & couldn't do enough for us, if we're ever up in Thurso again, will absoloutly re-visit.

Google sent me here by chance, up the stairs to a pleasant seating area. The food is spot on, and can highly recommend the lamb( leave your knife to the side it’s not needed). Staff are welcoming and accommodating and the menu is well priced....

This evening I had a delightfully yummy dinner prepared by Spice Tandoori go down into my tummy. I ordered a curry with special rice which tasted absolutely delicious. The curry was smooth and flavoursome with tender, well cooked meat. The special rice was seasoned to perfection and complemented the curry brilliantly. Additionally, the customer toilets were in good condition however if I remember rightly the stock of paper towels had run out. This was not a big problem as there's also a hand dryer provided but perhaps more regular checking of such supplies could elevate the lavatory experience to the next level. In terms of the customer service provided it was excellent and well worth a generous tip. All in all an excellent evening meal in an establishment I'd recommend if you're in the area.

Only in Thurso for 2 days,and we found this place online, did not disappoint, reviews here spoke about the chicken jinga and it was true, it was excellent and plentiful. The whole meal and service was 5* and reasonably priced even with the beers.Will return here next time in Thurso.

Although the entrance inside looks more like a brothel from the 70s, there is a very, very good restaurant hidden on the first floor. The food was very tasty. Prices normal. Service good and very friendly. All in all very recommendable.

You wouldn't expect to have one of the best curries of you life in such an out of the way place, but that's what happened to me last night. Their Chicken Jinga was gorgeous, served in an portion that could have fed two! A real gem.
