Spice Quarter in Cardiff

I think our chicken and cheese curry’s were mixed up. Mine was spicy and didn’t taste like a paneer makhani I’ve had before, and the tika was bland

A nice pint of Cobra in the relaxed atmosphere while waiting for take out. The politest of waiters took my order and was a real gentleman. Food was Ace as per usual.

One of the best lamb biryanis I’ve had and I’ve tried plenty of Indian curry houses. The kheer was excellent too. But if there was more lamb in the biryani we customers would appreciate it more 😀

Booked for 7.30 ,placed order still at 8.20 still no starter ,service so bad for alot of customers,.paid for our drinks and walked out . Toilets no toilet roll and messy

What can I say. The restaurant is very clean with a wonderful atmosphere. Staff are incredibly attentive and quick with any requests for service. Starters were brought out in a timely manner, with the perfect break before our mains arrived. Speaking of the food, 10/10. It must have come straight from the kitchen with no delay. The curries, rice, poppadoms, masala chips and the peshwari naan were cooked to perfection and tasted wonderful. Thank you for a wonderful experience on our 11th anniversary. Great taste of all the food items we had (paneer makhni, bhindi, aloo tikkis, samosas). Staff was very cordial and got it prepared as per our requirements. Pleasant atmosphere all around.

Excellent food with friendly staff, service was a little slow but it is to be expected at Christmas time. The atmosphere was good, lots of people were celebrating.

The best Indian restaurant in Cardiff city centre! A lovely, formal setting with great atmosphere makes it a special treat for a meal out. The prices are very fair too. They label the vegan and vegetarian options really well so there is no confusion!

To start with, almost £2 PER poppadom is crazy especially when the number of chutneys was lacking. Quantity of starters was surprisingly low and wasn’t made up with flavour. The mains were ok, but the keema naan bread was pretty bad, looked like it was off the shelf and heated up in a microwave. Staff were nice but the service was very slow, probably understaffed at the time. The final issue was the loud 1920’s Christmas music that was really distracting and irritating.

Where are the spices? Bland food . Not recommended AT ALL. go somewhere else for ur Indian food and run away before the lack of spices beyond salt and pepper gets to u .

Me and my boyfriend was out to have a romantic anniversary dinner just the two of us and we was asked to pay the whole bill before even eating and the manager stating it was company policy this is disgusting and quite frankly I feel I was discriminated again for being homosexual I paid the bill did not eat any food and left DO NOT EAT AT THIS RESTAURANT ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING SERVICE ABD MANAGEMENT

Sat here having polished off a lamb chop starter, followed by a chicken Madras with coconut rice, and 2 jepaties. I can honestly say this is the best Indian meal I have ever had. This is the next level. Have done Mumtaz and all the places in Bradford. 3 months in India 3 months in Bangladesh congratulations guys this food is superb.

Had a great meal here over the weekend. The service was great and food was really tasty! I had the butter chicken. We thought the popadoms were a little expensive at £1.85 each, but apart from that it was well worth the money. Great location too as it was right in the middle of town so perfect if you are going out for a drink after. Please note there are stairs leading up to the restaurant so I'm guessing no wheel chair access. Thanks for having us!

Please avoid the service was appalling waiting about 20 minutes to been seen and seated. Once ordered and food arrived the silly waiter nearly dropped the food on my other half ! Without saying sorry , too it off the food was cold after contacting the manager she said she dished up the food and it wasn’t cold the main was that bad a know a korma is mild but this had no tasted and look like baby poo to top it all off washing a waitress wash the tables with a dirty napkin no spray on the table just a dirty napkin that was used on a person mouth place needs a good clean very dusty and needs to find a better manager who can take fault !

We loved this place! We recommend the amristari fish and the kheer. If you are nearby, you should 100% come here :)

One of our favourite Indians in Cardiff City Centre, food is always delicious. Sometimes the time to serve can be slow on quiet nights but match days it’s always bang on and the perfect spot. We just had our first dinner in Cardiff and we found this lovely Indian restaurant. We ordered samosa as starter and duck and beef as mains. The food was nice and we can taste authentic Indian dishes here. The staff were also friendly and nice.

I am a bus driver for Cardiff Bus and I often go for evening dinner at this high class Indian restaurant. I particularly enjoy the keema rice which they added to the menu for me. It is very delicious and what an absolute joy that it is now on the menu as I asked for it. What better service could anyone ask for so I am happy to continue to dine there always. Recommend to anyone to try as I believe the food is better quality. Keep up the good work!

Wife and I had the four course Celebration set menue for £29 each. Service very friendly. Food was more than enough even for two hungry eaters. Atmosphere was good. Surroundings clean. Will probably return.

Had some interesting main dishes and it would have been good to taste the Welsh Lamb. Only spotted one waitress and as no service for 15 minutes decided to leave.

Loved this restaurant the food was fav . Staffs were very polite and helpful. Ordered shank And naan bread wow must say outstanding taste. Went to few restaurants like mirchi,empire but this happen to best out of all. Such a warm hospitality. Must visit when you are in Cardiff 😁😁😁😁 yum finger licking good.

Beautiful place. Me and my friends didn’t book but the staff was able to find us a table. Overall great lassi and mains. The samosas was not as good as we expected and we wouldn’t recommend it. I had a spicy main ( 3 chili) but it wasn’t really spicy , nevertheless really good. The staff was not especially friendly but that’s more to do with indian way of serving I believe. Would recommend the place.

Perfect place to get exact taste for Indian dishes. The royal thali is spectacular for person to have all taste in one plate. Super quick service provided by dakshina and Sanjay. Planning to be soon back to get the same fabulous service.

Pretentious expensive food with very poor service

I ordered a delivery from this place for the first time a few days ago. The food got here quick, was hot and was very tasty. Chips were fresh, thick curry that was mouth watering, and really tasty keema naan. Very happy with my order, and would definitely eat from here again.

Probably my favourite Indian Restaurant in Cardiff. I've had many takeaways from here which have all been excellent and with perfect portion sizes. Lots of food here I can't find elsewhere and I am completely addicted to the Dahi Puri Chaat, Malai Kofta's and then Gulab Jamun for desert. Always absolutely delicious and some real gems on the menu. I will be back for more when the wallet allows!

Booked this restaurant at very short notice and were easily accommodated. When we arrived, we were very taken in by the beautiful decor. The service started off being very attentive, but very quickly started to feel as if we were being rushed through our food and out the restaurant as quickly as possible. The food was absolutely delicious, with some curries I had never come across before, the leftovers the next day were very good also. The bill was also extremely reasonable for a restaurant in the centre of Cardiff. Overall a very good restaurant, although the service would put me off visiting again in the future.

Lovely place. Was a bit uncertain initially because of its location but inside is aesthetically pleasing, clean and tidy. Staff were exceptional. The food, my god, so tasty. Plentiful vegan and gluten free options too. Spent £40 on 2 main meals, a side and 2 nan breads, with also alcoholic beverages. Can not beat that for value for money. Will definitely return.

I must have ordered the wrong thing because it was not spiced at all and lacked flavour. The rice and drink was nice. Ordered the murg malai methi, tasted like chicken in milk but lovely service.

As a starter I had Dahi Puri Chaat, and was blown away. Thin potato based shells containing chick peas , yogurt, tamarind. Surprising and delicious

Lovely Indian in the lively brewery quarter. Friendly staff, though they seemed to be short staffed, so service was a little slow. Food was really delicious and they tried to be accommodating as possible.

The food quantity is very less for the price and tastes okay. Service is very poor took ages to get our order. Not very happy!

Food was ok not brilliant, one item was under cooked and was replaced but rest of the food got cold while waiting. Broke the momentum and ultimately left me with bad experience but was also appreciated when staff offered one of the item to be replaced. Average food, good service, but not the best. Hence the level of review.

Food portions seem smaller than the last time we ordered and £2 for a can of coke is simply extortionate!

We had a Christmas meal booked for 7 people. If I’m honest I’ve had better food warmed up in the microwave at home. Service was appalling. 3 starters ordered, we were charged for 7. Mains were cold. The bill was an eye opener. £22 for 6 popadoms. 😨 £25 for a small glass of wine. They seen a group out for a Christmas party and ripped us off. Worst meal I’ve ever had in an Indian restaurant.

Disappointing. The murgh chilli chicken was high temperature, moderate spice and the coating on the chicken went soggy in the sauce. The flavour and heat was all in the sauce which reminded me more of a hot and sour rather than anything Indian. Uncomfortably close to chicken nuggets in sweet and sour with chillies I'm afraid. Best avoided. Don't do coatings on chicken, it stops the flavour permeating.

Best Indian food I have eaten is at Spice Quarter Cardiff City Wales . Restaurants ambience is fantastic ,Staff services is amazing, the food very delicious and yummy. Would surely visit again and definitely recommend to friends and family. ❤️👍

Avoid at all costs! Terrible customer service, we did not receive our mains for over an hour! When we attempted to enquire the manager said he couldn’t serve us till he finished serving the large party before us, which would take another hour. This would have meant we received our mains after 2 hours and it would be 11pm!! The manager had no sympathy and instead blamed us. We made it clear he could have told us the wait time before we sat down so we could’ve gone to another restaurant. We were all too hungry and it was 10pm already so we left before the mains came to head elsewhere. The kids who also left hungry! Overpriced and badly managed.

Few days back I had visit to Spice Quarter with my Friends .Food is delicious. Staff is very friendly and polite. Restaurant decor is amazing. Will visit again with friends to chill out again👍🙏🏼

Very nice food, not at all greasy and the naan breads are a manageable size. Very pleasant interior, excellent service especially considering it was a match day. Lovely wine glasses, decent wine list. My only criticisms would be that the menu is insufficiently varied, with only a few main courses to choose from and the toilets were in a bit of a state as they don't seem to flush properly. That really needs attention as it spoilt an otherwise very pleasant experience.

We went to the Spice Quarter on a Match day Nov 5th, so we sort of knew it would be busy but that was ok. It was the Food that let them down, we went for their Celebration Menu, a choice to try all of the Starters and 1 main dish including Rice and Nan all for £31.99 way overpriced for what we received. It wasn’t worth the money that’s for sure, both of our 4 Starters were cold and to be honest not very good to look at either, for mains I had the Translucent King Prawn Jalfrezi and my son had the Chicken Tikka Masala, to the point!!….both of our Sauces were exactly the same except my Jalfrezi had some chilli powder and raw vegetables put in it, it was horrible AND we had to pay extra for our Sweets which took an age to arrive. No Coffee either?? In all a total waste of money and we both said we would never venture in there again…..

Small menu but what you do get is delicious, I had the Lamb Bhuna, lovely kick to the sauce, chunky beautifully cooked lamb, excellent stuff.

Very disappointed with the food , lacked taste in the korma and madras, poppadoms all 3 were stale , the mint dip, well iv never tasted anything like it .... terrible !

Bad experience. Had dinner yesterday night. Bad table service. Even glass water was served after one hr. Will not recommend for Indians. The quantity of srartup was too small not sufficient even for one person. Does not deserve any star rating.

We were a party of 8, and honesty we felt like we were mugged off at every opportunity. We took them up on their special menu and we received two thirds of the main, we were charged twice for starters and were charged without receiving the dessert we had paid for. The quality of food was OK but the service was pretty poor.

Booked for a Saturday lunch, my partner was taken ill earlier so I was unaccompanied. It hardly mattered, the restaurant was empty and there was no other guest for over 40-50 minutes. So, no ambience. However, tables were all beautifully laid out and there is plenty of space. Menu is somewhat different to many Indian restaurants, but all the better for that. Food was excellent....delicious, well-cooked and very moreish. My starter, Murg Trio (basically, chicken cooked 3 ways) was really tasty. As a main, the prawn & coconut curry with coconut rice was also a winner. Tiger prawn tails had been left on, and it is somewhat hard to identify which part to cut off, but so tasty.... I had lots of time so also tried a desert - Garama Masala brûlée, not extra special but a pleasant close to the meal. With poppadoms, coffee and a couple of glasses of wine the bill was £45. Seemed really good value for an excellent meal. I will be returning!

This has to be the best Indian food we have tasted in UK. Cooked to perfection, fresh and very tasty. Great service.. would recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves real Indian cuisine.

I came here recently and had a wonderful experience. I ordered something spicy and unlike most Indian restaurants that I have been to in the UK, they actually trusted that I knew what I wanted and I got a spicy dish. I also tried my husband's dish and it was spicy too. In addition to being spicy, it also had rich layers of flavor and smokiness. It was just a fun experience overall.

I have never seen worse service in my life than them. I called the employee more than once and he told me that he came and it was funny that he ignored me. I don't know if he gives me food for free or does he have to serve me since I’m a customer?

The only fault would be that there isn't as much food compared to the price. Other than that, it was delicious.

Ordered four poppadoms, ended up with eight for some reason. Ordered two mint and two mango chutneys, were sent just one, really confusing and slightly annoying. Curries were delicious and delivery quick but if I order double mint and mango, I expect double mint and mango to be delivered, especially because they were paid for. Not a large amount of ££s but still.
