Ollie the manager and his team saved the day for my dad’s 86th birthday we had booked the Saltdean Carvery over a week ago but when we got there they had not written our booking down the week before so my niece phoned the Spanish Lady and spoke to Ollie who accommodated 17 of my family. I had the roast beef and my family had many dishes from their menu the food was amazing. Ollie and the team were friendly and very professional I would recommend the Spanish Lady to all. Refurb is great, staff are very welcoming and friendly however on two occasions of visiting it appears to attract the wrong clientele. People wanting to cause trouble and confront other with potential to violence. Not a pleasant way to spend an afternoon/evening relaxing with good friends.

Always driven past this pub in the past, but after refurb, thought I would give it a try, friendly staff, asked which sky channel I would prefer, food very tasty prepared in house and very reasonable prices well done, but please move one of the TV's away from the pool table.

Came in this evening to see what it was like as I know it’s been opened around a month and wanted to check it out! Enjoyed a few ciders. Was good and the place looks good too! Nice atmosphere and music. Overall pleasant. However the girl on the bar was on her own and I couldn’t see anyone to help her. Not sure if they are still finding their feet and need more staff? But she was rushed off her feet and a queue formed and got a bit busy for one person. Hope the staffing issues are sorted soon and she’s not left lone working.

Has had a lovely returb, had high hopes, such a wonderful position by the sea but same old clientele…came in.for quiet drink, all I can hear is a group of lads effing and blinding…this is what I was hoping not to hear for once in this pub…

Great food, 2 for £10:99. Really nice fish chips and gammon and chips. Also good music in the background. Always friendly staff and the managers great.highly recommend.

Having lived in Saltdean for 14 years, I now have a place to go where I feel welcome and comfortable, a true local pub in every sense. Brad arrived as the GM just over a year ago, the latest in a long line, nobody wanted to take on this difficult task. He did, he saw the potential, what’s not to like about working in a place with the most incredible sea views? He’s built a quality team. We have Jamie, Sophie, Shana and Leah to tend to our every need, great regular offers too on the Greene King Season Ticket app. Now Fleur has also arrived to oversee the kitchen, lovely ladies all, ready to serve with a smile. Give the liver a try would be my advice, my absolute favourite, although the Thursday rump steak special runs it close. Sports fans can enjoy the two Sky boxes, football, rugby, golf, cricket and horse racing are always available, just ask, the staff are only too pleased to oblige. Indeed we’re planning a Cheltenham Festival preview evening from 5 p.m. on Friday 6th March, come along and exchange your thoughts on all the big races the following week, just latch on to one winner and it could pay dividends? The Festival itself begins Tuesday 10th, always a great occasion, all races live on the big screen TV’s. That Friday 6th also offers the chance to get involved in a Fantasy Pro Golf competition, the “draft” will take place at 7 p.m. Every Thursday evening the KwizzBit Interactive Pub Quiz has become a weekly highlight for many people, myself included. It’s grown significantly, a chance to get together and pit your wits against a friendly crowd, just great fun, give it a try. Thanks to Brad the evening has also evolved into an inspirational event for those who struggle with their mental health. Indeed, he’s taken it a step further by encouraging “Let’s Walk, Let’s Talk” morning strolls along to Rottingdean, those who have participated enjoy it tremendously. Tragically, all thoughts of mental health were affected in the worst possible way this past weekend. Having nowhere to run and nowhere to hide is a hauntingly real situation for so many. Thanks to Brad and the Spanish Lady that is no longer the case for the residents of Saltdean.

This was mine and my partners 1st visit to The Spanish Lady today and we will deffinatly be back. The food was lovely and the staff very friendly. The pub itself had a very inviting feel and in all it was a very nice experience

I have been using this pub on and off for years, however since the new landlord has been in place for about a year now, it has seriously transformed into a fantastic pub. The service the staff the food the ambience all have improved immeasurably. I particularly love the Thursday quiz night as well as the food offerings which has really improved. Bradley and his team are just the best we've ever had in the pub for years. Fantastic work and may the Spanish continue to thrive and soar.

One of the very few pubs where I am happy to visit on my own. Welcoming staff, lovely landlord and an excellent selection of beers, wine and gins. Nice seating area outside when the weather is fine, overlooking the sea. The best pub in Saltdean and surrounding area by far.

I have frequented this establishment occasionally over a few years, and noticed that there are new members of staff. The new landlord, not sure of his name but he is South African, is extremely friendly, and goes out of his way to make everyone feel welcome. Where this place has had a bad reputation in the past, he has done his upmost to change this. It was refreshing to see at Halloween that he had a session, where children were carving pumpkins also that one Sunday, he held a craft fair, involving many people. This establishment has definitely improved and the standard of staff is exceptional

Stopped off at the Spanish lady on our way home from football. Friendly welcoming staff, good choice of beers, great burgers no disappointment at all unlike our team crashing out of the FA cup!

Popped in for a lunchtime drink and decided to grab a bite to eat. Limited menu with pretty basic items (pizza, burger etc). A few things weren’t available on the menu. Fries were nice - the quality of the rest was pretty poor. How hard is it to provide a decent pizza? I’m assuming the food is not home cooked but shipped in and heated up. A shame, as the pub is in a nice location and could be great with a more inventive menu.

Después de ver las increíbles críticas recientes, decidí traer a un amigo junto con mi papá para algo de comida el domingo. Feliz de escuchar la cocina estaba abierta. Pedí la hamburguesa Hi - Steaks en su increíble menú de hamburguesas (qué elección más increíble) con papas fritas sazonadas. La comida llegó a la mesa muy bien presentada (en cuanto a hamburguesas) las patatas fritas sazonadas eran increíbles y la hamburguesa era increíble. Caliente, se derrite en tu boca hamburguesa. Sin duda volveremos a probar los demás en el menú. Además, el personal fue muy amable y educado, no te molestó, pero estamos allí si los necesitabas para algo. Seguro que vendremos para un almuerzo de cumpleaños con las chicas el miércoles.

Mi esposo y yo vinimos a este pub en algunas ocasiones el año pasado. Principalmente porque podemos llevar a nuestro perro y es local a donde vivimos. Nos pareció que el pub estaba un poco mal y sucio, aunque el personal y los clientes eran muy amables, no era nuestra taza de té.

I'd like to say a little about this pub. It would seem to have received a degree of negativity recently about some of the regular customers. I simply do not understand this at all.

We visited last night as there was the promise of a karaoke at our local pub, it was advertised as a charity event so we decided to go.

I keep trying with this pub because I only live down the road. If you want a true 1970s experience then this is the place for you. Just queued at the bar for some time and watched a number of men being served before me. And 2 other women. The barmaid kept saying she didn't see us. Walked out and the last time I try it

Visited here for a family meal recently; the customer service was very good however the food certainly needs improving.

We went for a quiet late afternoon meal which was totally spoilt by a group of very loud men and women who were swearing loudly at the bar. We did mention this to the barman only to hear one of the women shout out " what C... is complaining?" I would never eat at this place again which is a shame as the food was okay

Just had a delicious roast lamb roast dinner cooked by Meghan the food here is always good but this meal exceptional and the staff here are all so friendly always make you feel welcome thank you.

Decided to revisit the Spanish lady over Christmas having stayed away since AJ the manager took over in the summer (always running out of beer, wine,spirits, nut crisps food etc)and was greeted wih a great Christmas present, –a new manager.

Came here November had a wonderful meal, they didn’t have chicken, had a burger, ran out of a few things, but what we got was lovely tasty they tried hard to look after us, the girls were good and patient with telephonically in tow well done girls and we did go back

I had Sunday roast here a few weeks ago and I enjoyed the food service and value.

My only complaint is that this restaurant is not disabled and wheelchair friendly . A great pity as the food was excellent

La carne no estaba fresca, el pollo era una pechuga pequeña, las verduras, incluidas las patatas asadas, estaban congeladas y no eran productos frescos. Visité hace unos años y no lo disfruté en absoluto. Dijo que nunca volvería. Después de que algunos amigos mencionaron que estaba bajo una nueva administración, decidí intentarlo y me sorprendió gratamente. AJ lo ha hecho increíble para darle la vuelta al lugar. . . El nuevo personal de todo el año le da a este lugar un impulso muy necesario. Kay y Meghan me sirvieron mis bebidas / comida y fueron geniales. Se lo recomendaría a los amantes de los perros, ya que se permitió la entrada de perros. Gracias nuevamente al personal que hizo que mi visita fuera encantadora.

El personal era cálido y acogedor, nos recibió una señora encantadora llamada Anja y nos recomendó bebidas al instante. Pedimos un poco de comida después y salió mucho más rápido de lo que pensábamos y la calidad era de primera categoría, recomendaría este pub a cualquiera que visite la zona.

I'm going to keep this short. Genuinely the worst meal I've ever had. No exaggeration. Literally had to buy something at the co-op to make my mouth taste better. We had the roast dinner.

My partner and i visited this pub lastnight for a meal as we had won a meal for 2 at a charity event, to be hionest i wasnt really looking forward to going, as the last time we went here (4 yrs ago) it was a dreadfull, and had stayed away since.

Visited this place on a quiet Friday afternoon. Loved the décor and the view of the cliffs and sea across the road from my corner seat. I imagined myself in a bar in Spain!

I've lived in Saltdean for over 12 years, managers have come and gone from the Spanish Lady, so this well situated pub with spectacular sea views has only appealed to me intermittently............... until now!

With a Hawaiian theme going on the staff were both pleasant and polite, with plenty of activities for the children to do, face painting, hula hooping, even Limbo, what a great way to spend the bank holiday Monday would definitely go there again xx well done

Come here a few times before the new management and it wasnt to my satisfaction. Now they have hired a lovely women who makes the place fun and exiting. Well done to greenking on making changes for the better. Dont understand the negative reviews this place is friendly, welcoming, and a full of spirits. Also im a huge Gin drinker and they have a huge selection which is on display so you can choose easily and quickly, love the raspberry Gin that's my favourite.

This could be a very nice pub, but it is completely ruined by two factors.

Came here some months ago and vowed never to return. I got convinced by a friend to give it another go. WOW....What a difference a new manager has made to the place.. Great atmosphere and now clean and tidy. Beers were of good quality. I am truly amazed how different the place is. Well done to the team and especially the manager who has had such an impact on the place in such a short time..

My daughter and I visited this pub for lunch and we were pleasantly surprised by the welcome we received upon arrival . The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere of the pub was also inviting . We ordered lunch which was delivered quickly and was also delicious . We will definitely be returning in the near future.

Have been visiting this pub for numerous years as a local this must be the worst I've ever known continually running out of beer and food a total disaster. Green King continually put inexperienced managers into this what could be a successful thriving business the hub of the community a total disregard for the local people who need a decent drinking hole. Numerous people in this area have moved here because of the local pub and Green King 0bviously do not give a dam.Most regulars have now gone elsewhere is it any wonder?

I have recently moved to Saltdean and decided to take my family to my new local for Sunday Lunch - booked a table for 5. The pub was pretty empty but it still took about 5 minutes to be greeted and seated. When placing the order at the till we were informed there was no roast beef and no roast chicken (would have been handy to know this when seated). We ordered 4x lamb and 1x pork. 45 minutes later the food arrived - they ALL looked absolutely dreadful. The roasties were all pale and under cooked. No yorkshires. A pile of stodgy, lumpy, cold MASH. Only one veg - 3x sorry looking sticks of broccoli. The shoulders of lamb were not just cold - they were actually freezing to the touch! I suspect they were frozen supermarket product that hadn't been defrosted thoroughly. To top it all off, the two "hostesses" didn't seem particularly bothered, offered weak apologies and proceeded to count up my refund of around £55.00 in pound coins because they'd cashed up the notes! They didn't even offer us complimentary drinks - no, we paid for those! I can honestly say, without exaggeration, these were the worst roast lunches I have ever seen and the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. This was meant to be a nice, family day out - instead it left us angry and upset. An embarassment to the establishment and its owners.

Food has gone downhill. Ordered chicken and stuffing in yorkshire but was told there was no stuffing-co op opposite!

We were given an e-voucher from Greene King, following an awful experience at The Highwayman,Dunstable (qv). We took a friend to the Spanish Lady, as we had had difficulty finding a Greene King managed pub in our area that would take the voucher.

After a long walk we popped in for a pint & a bite to eat . Greeted with a huge smile from Angie opted for burgers , mine the New York deli , my hubby had La liga from the specials menu . Both came within 20 mins and were delicious . All in all a great visit . Thank you Angie for you lovely , friendly , smiley service and thank you All at the Spanish lady for a very enjoyable visit .

Went early evening to eat. Friendly staff ,nice food. I like dogs but not enough to have them come over when I'm eating and they like a lot of dogs in there. It was quiet but outside boards suggest live music some evenings.

Han sido muchas veces a su pub, ya que es cerca y tiene una buena selección de cervezas y una magnífica vista al mar afuera. El único problema es donde hemos estado en una tarde de viernes siempre hay gente por uno de los extremos de la pub que puede ser bastante ruidoso y bullicioso. La última vez que fui yo quería usar los servicios pero fue bloqueada de ir por alguien que fue tener una confrontación con alguien allí y fue la entrada de bloqueo. Otro cliente estaba atrapado dentro de ellas. Y a pesar de tratar de conseguir la atención de un bouncer, estaba demasiado ocupado en su teléfono y no le importara. Hasta se encargan de este tipo de incidentes y que no volveremos. Una pena realmente ya me gustó ir ahora y otra vez.

We were here Sunday 18th nov 2017 and were surprised we had a good meal, we had chicken n leek pie,steak n ale pie, roast dinners and a burgers and no complaints from any of us, keep it up Spanish Lady.

Found the Spanish lady by chance on a sunday afternoon with a group of friends. We intended to have a quick one whilst the rain stopped on our way over to Brighton. But after the warm welcome we received from the crew and the smell of food (and the fact the rain didn't stop) we realised we were in the best place. We ordered meals for eight people and were lucky enough to be served by what we later found out is the new manager Steve. Food was piping hot and incredible with a great selection of vegetarian. the selection of real ales was perfection. We ended up spending our whole evening in there. Keep doing what you're doing lads! We will be back over Christmas. Lots of love from portugal!!

Besøgte pubben en torsdag aften ved 20 tiden, der var ikke mange i det ellers store lokale. Vi bestilte 3 stk. oksemørbrad bøf med tilbehør og alt var fint. Så kom tjeneren tilbage og sagde at de kun havde 1 mørbrad bøf tilbage, men de havde også 1 ribeye og 1 af fillet, lidt underligt. Vi var 3 og fik så resterne, nemlig de 3 bøffer det havde.

Este establecimiento fue completamente renovado hace unos años. Es un poco triste de nuevo ahora. La comida no era tan buena como lo era. Y se está poniendo como escandalosos como lo que solía ser.

I have known Saltdean since I was a child. Whilst I currently live in London, I spent a weekend in Saltdean with my husband looking at properties. We were on a tight schedule, between viewings. We had 10 minutes to sit down on a very hot day. I asked for a quick drink with lots of ice. I did not want a mixer. I sat down, and I was actually pleasantly surprised by the improved interior. I have been familiar with The Spanish Lady for decades. My husband popped out of the Pub to buy some supplies as were heading off to another property viewing. When he came back, the Bar man yelled "Are you drinking your own drinks in here?". We were *not*. I was appalled. If he even suspected that, he should have walked across to us, and check. It was a ludicrous assumption, and so rude. I shall not return.

Absolutely fantastic the place was buzzing full of the dregs of society I recommend it unconditionally try it you won't b disappointed or sober x

This was our first visit and we will definitely visit again. We had a days leave from work and went Monday lunchtime. My husband had a mixed grill and I had salmon, new potatoes and vegetables. We really enjoyed it. The pub was spacious and the staff very helpful.

Wanted to visit for business reasons whilst in Brighton, it's a little out of town so we took a taxi and was told by the driver it was a nice pub.On entering it was obvious this was not the case, the pub was dirty smelled of dogs, one was lose behind the bar and the barmaid was most inconvenienced to end her phone call as 'people were waiting to be served'. We had 2 bottles as we didn't trust the draught to be up to scratch if the rest of the pub was anything to go by.We took these outside as spending time inside would have been too nauseous, took a couple or sips and decided to leave the rest and take a bus back to town.Overall a terrible place and one we won't visit again, oh and there was no toilet paper or locks in there either

Went for dinner after a day's work, steak slightly over done but they turned it around without and fuss or hassle! the service was second to none, made to feel very welcome by the girls. All credit to them they really make this place. Thanks again girls we will be back soon.

Mixed crowd depending on the time of the day you go. Quite loud on a Friday night but calm and family friendly in the afternoons. Good prices, decent wine, plenty of seating and a varied menu. Nicely decorated and clean.

Really nice decor and welcoming pub but the poor barmaid was on her own with no help in the bar. This young girl kept the whole business going with the very talented chef. Our food was a while in coming but it was so worth it. Good menu, good prices and a very comfortable place to spend some time

Could have enjoyed the Spanish Lady a lot more but jumped every time a dog barked in this confined space and had a dog sitting staring at us throughout our meal - nobody called it away and the bar/waiting staff ignored it. Another circled us looking for food. Dogs are encouraged in the pub - you have to step over them to get to the bar. Fine during the day but not in the evening please!

We originally went for a few drinks with some colleagues after work to talk a bit of business, it's my first visit back to The Spanish Lady in many years. It always had an underlying issue of violence but I had heard this was all gone. At first sight it seemed lovely, however after around an hour the new manager heiress, I believe she is called Anna, was rather rude to one of our female colleagues at the bar. It seemed rather busy but no excuse in my opinion! Then it went from bad to worse. One of our older female colleagues witnessed Anna doing drugs in the women's toilets, confronted her, and was given a tirade of abuse. Perhaps the saddest and most worrying thing of all is not the drugs or the rudeness, but the fact she is heavily pregnant. Shame. Will never be returning.

The food is great pub food with excellent portion sizes and good value for money.The pub was spotless, service was quick and friendly, and the staff are polite.My daughter had the Scampi & Chips my wife had the Steak & Ruddles Ale Pie and I had the American Craft Burger we would definitely come back again.

This is just a pub, local people frequent this place. Friday evening see all the local builders and trades having end of week drink on their way home.The pub serve food, typical, catering pub food, most goes through the microwave on its way to the table.It does Sunday lunch cheaply, you only get what you pay for. Not the place for a romantic dinner for two.The pub is very dog friendly providing doggy treats at the bar.All round local family pub that does pub grub, sea views from the terrace.

Das Essen und die Bedienung war hervorragend. Wir waren zu siebt Abendessen. Das Essen kam sehr schnell und war zudem sehr lecker.

Not the Pub to Relax or unwind .The decor is tatty as are the furnishings.Echos from all the talking ,expensive,Poor choice of wines and rubbish food..If this is "The Spanish Lady "I did not find any Spanish food,Decor or snacks to suggest this......Perhaps its the odour of Spanish onions !!Avoid it if you don't want a headache!

Food wasn't good, menu was very poor and it definitely wasn't a Spanish restaurant. Quite noisy with many drunk people trying to sing. I do not recommend this place to anyone.

My OH has recently moved into the area for work & I visited this weekend. Nice find in the pub. Welcoming locals & a nice range of drinks & food. Perfect for a decent local. We will both be back for sure.

Although it doesnt look great from the outside, the inside bar and seating area is quite nice. The bar staff provide service with a smile and meal service was quick. Food is ok. The sea views are great from a window seat.Would visit again.

Excellent fish'n chips, pork belly with mash and veg, steak and ale pie, all of it well cooked and well presented, asked for 1/2 pints of drinks, all came full pints. we were there late Sunday afternoon and the place full, but not overcrowded.

My friends and myself went yesterday to the Spanish Lady after long time as we/ve heard that they recently have changed the management. We've been welcomed by amazing staff, very polite and smiling. We've ordered mix grill, lasagne and a burger and all of it was very delicious, pipping hot and we weren't waiting any long. We've received the check back, all staff were looking after us during our visit there. I have to say good food and a good variety of it. They have a huge selections of beers and ciders. Friednly, family atmosphere, comfortable seats and tables. If you ever visit Saldean, that's the place to sit, eat and drink :)

Previously we have had only good things to say about the newly revamped Spanish Lady. However on this visit we realised that they had taken some of the best things on the menu away. I ordered Caesar Flatbread (description from menu supplied in photograph) and received a shop bought taco/wrap with a bit of sauce squirted on it and a pinch of cheddar. (Also picture supplied ). Is this a joke? £5-99! My partner ordered nachos and received what I can only describe as a child - sized portion of cheap packet chilli nachos with a teaspoon of sauce on top.Never again.Such a shame. The interior has style and the staff are lovely but don't waste your money.
