Southgate Fish and Chips in Crawley

We when 2nd time to the Southgate fish & Chips which is in a 22 Brighton Road one. That is really very best chips shops I have had in my life. The food are so much fresh and perfect portions of fish and chips for one person. Also the price is so much reasonable and affordable for everyone. There is server menu’s too. Thanks again for the yummy foods and to lovely staff.

Stopped off on our way to the airport. Friendly staff, very helpful. Big portions of fish and chips. Fish excellent, huge portions with lovely crispy batter. Large portion of chips. Would recommend.

Had fish n chips delivered tonight. 1 small fish, 1 large fish, 1 portion of chips enough for 3 people. Fish was so tasty cooked to perfection. Chips the best we have had. All hot when delivered. Cant believe we managed to eat it all. So tasty. Will defo eat here again.

Cod cooked up fresh, so crispy and moist - perfect I'd say. One child's portion of chips was plenty for two of us. Really friendly people and I'd go back again without hesitation.

Our ‘go to’ for consistently excellent fish and chips. So much so that we regularly drive 5 miles from Handcross to get there. Portions are generous and quality is excellent. A nice touch is that the fish and the chips are packaged separately which keeps the batter crisp even after the drive home. As another bonus, the couple that run this shop are kind, friendly and unfailingly polite. Note that this shop only accepts cash payment and the area around the shop is a little insalubrious.

The fish and chips here are simply the best and cooked to perfection. The cod is beautifully cooked golden brown with thin batter, not too oily. Chips are great too, chunky and neat with no little bits. Friendly service a bonus. I'll be back.

We have tried many of the fish and chip shops in crawley and this is in the top three, well worth a try, reasonable portion and reasonably priced.

Used this place for over 30 years and always had good food and service, that is until tonight, couple of weeks ago i did my first order on line and when it came it was missing the bottle of Tartre sauce the delivery did not want to know they said contact shop which i did and they were full of apologies and told me when i came in the next time to speak to manager/owner and they would deduct the cost of tarter sauce from my order. Tonight i went in and ordered large cod and chips and when i went to pay them i showed the receipt from last time and said about the £2.50 deduction, The owner/manager told me they cannot give a refund as it was an internet order and could only give me a bottle of tartre sauce which i told i didn't want as i had bought one and still had plenty left. she still refused so i refused my order waiting to be payed for which also had lots of vinegar and salt. they might still have my money but theoriser tonight was £10 and cannot be resold. 10 to me and 0 to them. Sadly won't be using them again

This is the friendliest and tastiest Fish and Chips in Crawley. It's a simple as that. I've tried many in Crawley and this is definately THE BEST. Trust me.

Have visited previously when flying from Gatwick and glad to see that the quality has not dropped. Unfortunately, due to the size of the plaice and quantity of chips, unable to eat all of it. Large portions appear to be standard. Excellent stop-over choice of fayre.

Have been here several times and never been disappointed. The Meals are great and very big portions. My chips were tasty and not greasy. The fish was very tasty and well cooked too. Coupled with friendly staff I will continue using this shop.

As cabin crew we are always searching for the best fish and chips. Been staying in Crawley for years but always walk the opposite way. Captain on my last LGW told us about this gem and we went! Delicious food and all cooked fresh to order. Chips were perfectly cooked, fluffy on the inside. Staff really friendly. Will definatly be back on my next trip!

I read the reviews on here and they weren't lying!!! The fish and chips (and mushy peas) were out of this world!!! I highly recommend anyone in the area go here!!! so crunchy, so refreshing, and just what you hope for!!!

Excellent fish and chips, the best one I've had. I've been buying my fish & chips there for over a year and have never been disappointed. All freshly cooked as you wait, crispy batter, delicious fish and perfect chips. The portions are quite generous and large cod is bigger than your plate! Super friendly service is a bonus.

My first taste of true British fish and chips, and I was not disappointed. Large portion of fish, and the chips were fantastic with just a hint of vinegar. Definitely worth a visit!

Popped into this Fish and Chip shop when on my way back to the hotel. Chips were crispy, hot and not at all soggy or greasy. I had a pie this time but will go back to try their fish to see if it's as good as the chips. Harry Ramsden's got nothing on these chips

We have had beautiful meals from here on a number of occasions. Yesterday we stopped off once again, its a little difficult to park near to the shop, but we found a space. We always expect a little wait because the fish is cooked individually for you, which makes it so much fresher and so much tastier in my view. The batter is very delicate and nice and crispy, the chips were perfect. The people are very friendly and make you very welcome serving more than adequate portions. I would highly recommend you give this place a try, you will not be disappointed.

Returning from Geneva too my local fish and chip shop was wonderful, you can get the most wonderful fish and chips there with the friendly family that run it, generous portions and nice service ...love it...

They are alright, nothing special. Chips ok, mushy peas - tinned and microwave them. Toasted bread roll? I wasn't ordering a burger!

We stopped here tonight for dinner. 1st ever visit. The food was nice but had far to much grease. I know everything is deep fried but I don't think it sat long enough??. Nice staff though

Jumbo battered sausage, saveloy and chips = £4.80 well spent. Large portion, good taste and not too greasy. Just a few minutes walk from Crawley station.

Cod, chicken, chips and mushy peas all well cooked, not too greasy, and served with a smile on New Year's Eve. Cheapest meal we've had this week in Crawley and too much food for us to eat it all.

Unfortunately the Batter was exceptionally greasy which did not make for completely pleasant eating, prior to this though they had all been of a very high standard with very nice owners who gave a very personal experience.

Every time we have wanted fish and chips we stopped here. Still the best cod and chips. Lives up to its reputation. Would highly recommend

you wont find a better fish and chip shop in Crawly or anywhere near, been coming here for years and my children do so as well ,even though they have left home.can not fault the service or quality of food.even though it changed owners once a few years ago the quality is still the same.

Well prepared fresh fish and home-cut quality potatoes to produce their freshly fried fish and chips in their light and crispy batter.

Always a popular choice but quick service wicked chips would highly recommend. Staff are always friendly and smiling.

What more can I say than I have in my title. My husband and I had just got off the plane at Gatwick and decided we were starving! So a quick tripadvisor search for a chippie in the Crawley area pointed us in the direction of the Southgate. We were already on the road and this was 5 mins away - perfect!And indeed it was. I had a vegeburger and chips and my husband had fish and chips. The fish was huge! The chips were great - I actually finished off my husbands chips as he was full. We shall be back in the area next time we fly and I reckon this will become our favourite post flight stop off on the way home :-)

I've tried this place a couple of times and it's awful!! Chips just ok but fish been undercooked both times. Not good at all... sorry!!

They serve the nicest fish and chips in Crawley. My husbands cod was huge, freshly cooked and delicious. The premises look spotlessly clean and the service friendly. Thanks southgate fish and chips, we will be back soon.

Best one in Crawley. Very friendly staff and perfect fish and chips. I would highly recommend to try it first and taste the difference from other places you might have had.

Having tried other fish and chips in the area I thought I would give this place a try as its local to me. I ordered a small cod and chips and to my surprise the cod was really big. I was expecting a small cod with loads of batter and oil but what I got was actually really nice. The price is also very cheap so really good value for money. Will be coming back. They also do offers and promotions. My order was more than £5 so I got a free sausage.

The best Fish N Chips in the whole of Crawley and maybe even for quite a few miles either side of the Town. Fish always fresh and freshly cooked - not drenched in oil like alot of other Fish N Chip shops. Always courteous and the queue outside speaks for itself.

This outlet is quite new. It opened about 4 or 5 months ago. A Chinese family run the place (no pun intended) and having eaten their take-aways three times I can hoestly say that they know exactly what to deliver and how to deliver it.The menu is pretty much the same as chippies across Crawley (although they have added deep fried Mars bar to the bill of fare). Portions are very generous and the cod and haddock was fried to perfection - they got it exactly right.Fish is cooked to order and the chips are fine. Very friendly service from Ma & Pa and their kids, who I guess are students. It's a brave step to open a new business at this point in the economic cycle but I reckon if they can keep up the quality they will be OK.

I live the other side of town, but love this chip shop. Its the BEST in Crawley!!!Wholeheartedly agree with previous comments. Food is fresh and cooked to order, the staff are lovely - friendly and professional. I have always had lovely fish - non-greasy, thick, with lovely batter. The chips are non-greasy and always a generous portion! The only downside is the lack of parking outside - which is not their fault.

I had a Fish and Chip takeaway from this shop on Wednesday and can honestly say that it was the best fish and chip supper that I have ever had.Everything was cooked to order and the prices were reasonable .If you live in Crawley,do yourself a favor and try for yourself .
