Sorrento in Havering

Went to Sorrento for a valentines date with my boyfriend as it’s very local to us and have been with my parents a few times before. To say the least, we were very disappointed this time round. The food arrived cold and tasteless, and we also waited ages for the food to arrive. There used to be a very charming spanish waiter who we loved to visit, but unfortunately he has left there now also. We don’t usually give such negative reviews, especially to places we visit often as we understand that there can also be bad days, but we were honestly so disappointed. We did say something while we were there but were disregarded. We will come back to retry it but won’t be for a while.

A valentines dinner which was romantic and an epicurean delight. Excellent menu and friendly but professional service. This finished off an excellent and enjoyable day for both of us.

Sorrento Upminster This was surprisingly our first visit to Sorrento which is a long and well established Italian restaurant in Upminster , Essex. The reviews that we’d seen have been mostly good so we thought it was about time to see for ourselves. We decided to go for an early evening dinner on saturday and due to being fully booked were given a time for the table to be returned which for us was fine. We arrived and was given a friendly welcome before being asked where we’d like to be seated. We chose a table next to the bar which gave us a great view of the restaurant. The rustic feel of the restaurant does remind you of the old days but the nice thing is that you do think you are in a little village in Italy. The staff were very friendly and just like the Italian way are constantly chatting to each other. We started with a drink while we looked at the extensive menu as well as a great selection of dishes on the specials board. Starters - We decided to start with the Grilled Sardines from the specials board and the Polpettine Napoli which were meatballs in a tomato sauce with toasted ciabatta. When the dishes arrived the presentation was very basic but the most important thing was that the food was delicious. Mains - Now on to the main course where my wife chose the Sea Bass all’ Aglio which was sea bass fillets with butter , garlic and tomato. For myself I opted for the Veal T.Bone with butter and sage of the specials board. We also ordered a side of Zucchini Fritte. Now here is where we were a mixture of highs and lows. Let’s start with the highs. The Sea Bass was delicious and my Veal T.Bone was a definite 10/10. Unfortunately the lows were the bland selection of vegetables (cabbage , carrots and broccoli) that seem to come with every meat or fish dish. It really was a shame. Desserts - After a nice little break it was time for desserts and we chose two from the specials. They were the Lemon Delizia a lemon sponge cake filled with a lemon custard and the Pasteria an orange flavoured neopolitan tart. Both desserts were a delight and a nice way to finish. We finished with a coffee to bring to and end a delightful visit to Sorrento. The food was very good and yes does take you back in time a bit. The staff were excellent and their friendliness is hard to beat. So yes if you don’t want modern but want to enjoy good food in a nice friendly atmosphere then yes I would recommend a visit. As I said the only little downside was the vegetables served with the main courses. The average price for 3 Courses is £45 so good value for money. I had the pleasure of indulging in several dishes, each one a culinary masterpiece. The spaghetti carbonara, with its creamy sauce and crispy pancetta, was a comforting and flavorful delight. The Margherita pizza, with its thin, crispy crust and gooey mozzarella, was a true taste of Italy in every bite. But beyond the delicious food, what truly set Sorrento apart was the impeccable service provided by the staff. From the warm welcome at the door to the attentive care throughout the meal, every interaction was marked by genuine hospitality and a commitment to customer satisfaction.

We celebrated my husband’s birthday At Sorrento’s with family and friends. The food is always exceptional and offers a wonderful choice for all tastes and budgets. We have used this restaurant over the years for many family celebrations. Franco and his team are wonderful hosts.

Lovely friendly place to have Italian.

My wife and I had booked Christmas lunch at Sorrento and enjoyed an excellent meal with friendly and professional service. The welcoming glass of Prosecco was a nice touch and the traditional Christmas fayre very tasty. The wine list is extensive and reasonably priced and the ambiance contributed to the overall enjoyment. Must remember to book early for 2024.

This is a great cosy friendly Italian restaurant that makes me feel like I could be in Italy but alas you leave and are still in Upminster 😭

My family took me and my husband here to celebrate my 60th birthday. We had a wonderful time in here, the staff were very friendly and professional. The food was very tasty, fresh and hot. We had the table for 2.5 hours and we had eaten our food by that time. We have been here before, it was a lovely place to celebrate my birthday and we will definitely go back.

Belated birthdays. We came from Suffolk back to the area we were both born and grew up in. So worth the journey, wonderful food, service and atmosphere.

Old style Italian based restaurant

It was very nice, but it's expensive for what it is.

The best Italian restaurant in all of Havering and Essex in my opinion. Service is immaculate and friendly and the food served is at the cooking level you would expect in Italy. The price point is also more than reasonable to the point where it's worth traveling to if you live further afield in London. You would struggle to spend more than £60 per person for a full 3 course meal and wine. It's also a very good place to celebrate a special occasion and one of the only places where the specials are actually consistently good.

First time we have been to this restaurant,won't be the last. Food,service was excellent,very impressed.

Fantastic food. Like home made and no stupid gimmicky stuff like served up in a bucket, etc. Save room for desserts.

A warm welcome from start to finish absolutely great atmosphere too. Nice authentic Italian Restaurant with seamless service. Food was lovely cooked fresh to order starters calamari/Parma ham and melon, mains chicken with mushrooms cream and brandy sauce/breaded veal escalope with fettuccine bolognese, side of peas with ham DELICIOUS we didn’t have deserts but a couple of liqueurs and brandy to finish off. Will look forward to returning at some point and would not hesitate to recommend. Grazie Sorrento!

We went here for lunch so it was quiet but we enjoyed the authentic Italian ambience and décor. The starters was delicious, especially the fresh, warm bread. Food was really nice and good portions. We didn't give it 5 stars as the menu was a bit basic and we expected a bit more; would have been nice to have more options. Good, friendly service.

I’ve had many meals at Sorrento over the years and it is such a fantastic restaurant. We feel like we’ve been transported to Italy when there! Food is absolutely delicious and the staff are very friendly and helpful. They are flexible for food for our children also. It’s a real gem!

A true authentic Italian Trattoria. Delicious food at reasonable price for the great standard. Incredibly friendly staff who are talkative and helpful. Music that suits the venue and doesn’t play too loud or two quiet. Everything is perfect. Would give 10 stars if I could

First time trying this restaurant, arrived & it was full with dinners which created a nice atmosphere, staff were lovely & the service was very good. All three courses arrived piping hot & were really good along with the house Rose wine, a great dining experience all round, looking forward to our next visit

Lovely little family feel Italian, great food and great service

Lovely food and atmosphere. Shame so much clutter in the fire escape and someone uses the toilet facilities as their own personal bathroom...toothbrush, toothpaste and even a razor! Guys?! C'mon!!!

Best local restaurant by a mile. Everything is cooled fresh. Steak was so tender with gorganzola sauce, delicious. Fresh oranges in grand mariner syrup, stunning desert. There were eight of us and everyone could not believe the superb quality of the food. Staff and service first class too. Would recommend without hesitation, this restaurant has a great atmosphere

We loved our meal. The portions are generally quite generous. Only downside it was very hot in there.

Whilst staying in the area, dined almost daily at Sorrento’s for Lunch (solo) and with Family for dinner. Only one word can only describe this Italian Restaurant, ‘Specttacolre,’ from the moment you enter, you are warmly greeted and seated in this incredibly cozy eatery. The Minestrone Soup was incredible, I would take back containers of the soup if we were not dining at Sorrento’s that evening. Lunch would include one of the salads, and the bread basket, Dinner, highly recommend the the Fettuccine Bolognese. Save room for the Desserts, adored the pancakes with Toffee sauce and Vanilla ice cream, out of this World. One of the Best Dining experiences I have enjoyed in England.

Fabulous restaurant in Upminster. The food, service and ambience was lovely, such a lovely meal, cannot wait to return.

My wife and I recently returned from Italy and were missing good authentic Italian food. We took a chance on a late booking and we’re lucky to get our table as it soon filled. The staff and service was excellent. The food was fantastic, full of flavour and plenty of it. I’d recommend the Seafood Linguine, it was delicious. We will definitely be visiting again soon.

Friday night dinner at Sorrento Arrived around 08:30pm. The restaurant was almost full, always a good sign, glad we had booked a table. The waiters were friendly and welcoming. A good selection to choose from on the menu plus a specials board. I chose the scallops wrapped in bacon. These were perfectly cooked. For main, from the specials board, sword fish in a delicious tomato sauce with capers and black olives, accompanied with a selection of vegetables. The wine list is reasonably priced. After dinner enjoyed a glass Tia Maria. The atmosphere was relaxing. Would recommend a visit.

It really was like coming home as the prodigal son. I cannot rate this restaurant highly enough. The food is beyond belief. I've only started to frequent Sorrentos in the last 6 weeks, and I've been back 3 times. The food is fantastic. The Family run restaurant has the ambiance of a traditional family run restaurant in rural Italy. Friendly staff and quality food.

Very nice decor and ambience which makes it feel like mum's home. Lovely staff, it's nice to be able to speak my own language even abroad. Although the food is disappointing, not very authentic as most of it has been changed to the British palate. Also very expensive for basic dishes such as minestrone and cotoletta alla milanese.

Reasonable menu but not to my taste. There are better resturants in the area with a lot bigger selection. If you like Italian food then you will probably like the place
