Sopna Indian Restaurant in Gwynedd

The food was to die for and they make everyone feel so welcome and special. I can see why they have won awards. Every customer matters to them.

Excellent food and friendly & efficient service, in a relaxed and comfortable setting. From the time you walk in you are made to feel welcome. The restaurant was surprisingly quite busy for a midweek night

Really lovely people. We arrived at the restaurant, only to find that we had mistakenly booked a table at a different restaurant! Regardless, we were quickly seated and made to feel welcome. Unfortunately, I started to feel unwell before I had even ordered any food (nothing to do with the restaurant), so I asked for a simple takeaway and if the restaurant could recommend a taxi company to take me back to our hotel. They produced the food quickly and a member of staff kindly drove me back to my hotel, rather than having to wait and pay for a taxi. They were incredibly kind and helpful and I am very grateful to them.

Always come here when we are hiking/climbing in the area and it's always fantastic food and excellent service. Can't recommend it enough!

Ordered on the just eat app just before 18:00 on a Saturday night. Food time was estimated to be around 18:50 and 19:10. However as we were patiently waiting for the food 20 minutes had passed and it was 19:30 and still no food arrived. Got a notification from the app saying that the food was delivered but that was a lie. Called the resteraunt then to ask where the food was. The guy on the phone then lied to us and said it was on it’s way! 10 minutes later still no sign of the food. Got a notification on the app saying it will be estimated around 20:00 that the food will arrive. It didn’t arrive until 20:10. When was given the food, the delivery dropped of the food said sorry then left in a hurry. An absolute disgrace!! No refund or a complimentary item was given for the horrendus wait and service. Will not be ordering from here again unless you want cold food and a 2 hour wait!

The food was amazing and the service was excellent! Restaurant also had a good atmosphere. Highly recommend for anyone celebrating climbing Snowdon!

We visited Sopna last Saturday evening. As has always been the case with takeaways the food was excellent. This was the first time eating at the restaurant however and despite booking a table a week in advance we were given a table next to the paying area and where people were collecting takeaway orders This meant constantly having people stood next to you while eating and being knocked by bags and arms. Definitely spoiled the neal despite the food being excellent. Will stick to takeaway in future

Getting there: If you drive, the restaurant has a large parking lot Interior: The restaurant has a nice interior. It is generally clean but there was a fly that bothered us. The linen was tissue paper, not cloth napkins. The bathroom was clean. Service: Reasonably good service. The gentleman who smiled us was all smiles and attentive Food: Not so good and the key reason for a three star score. We took the £40 set meal for two. The butter nan and chicken tikka masala was delicious. The chicken korma was not so much. The chicken and lamb are halal Value for money: Lots of food for £40. Great value for money. We had two starters, four mains and a dessert. The worse bit: They had the same CD of Bangladeshi music on the loop. We probably heard the same set of songs at least five time

So first i will say there was a bit of a mix up with our take away order but they rectefied it the moment i called and sent us the correct food very quickly The staff are lovely The food was AMAZING And we will be going again and taking my mum and her boyfriend We had Butter chicken Chicken korma They were better than anything else ive tasted both localy and further affeild We also got to keep the original mix up order wich has ended up in our freezer for a rainy day The restaurant itself is clean and well put together Perfect for a date night or family meal 🥰🥰🥰🥰 Im so full Im so happy 💙💙💙

Superb restaurant with top notch service from the staff. Would happily go again in a heart beat and brilliant view of the hills at sunset too. Will be back when in North Wales again.

We have eaten here twice over the last year and both times have been very nice.If I could add one thing it would be maybe some background music on low as it was very quiet when we went. Had visited this lovely restaurant on a weekend. Luckily had booked a table so we managed to get a table. It was quite full when we arrived. We ordered the meal and drinks which were promptly served on the table . The restaurant became hustling with tables and takeaways which were amazing to see. The food was amazing as expected and the service was top notch. Great pleasing staff which took care of our needs and especially our children were taken utmost care off. We would be back in the next month for sure to savour the delicious curries.A place must to visit.

Lovely meal once again from Sopna. It’s our local Indian restaurant and it never fails to disappoint! Had a conversation with some of the staff members when picking up my order and was extremely glad to hear them speaking Welsh. I left feeling very happy and will definitely be going back there soon. Thought we’d get a takeaway from this restaurant because we heard a lot of good things about it, and it did not disappoint. We walked in to pick our take away and was greeted in welsh by a lovely young man behind the counter, behind a screen and wearing gloves very covid safe. The food was with us for the time we ordered and it was delicious! Portion size was good, we ordered a curry each but could have easily shared. All in all really great service and really good food!

Visited as we are staying at Bryn teg which is a site close to the restaurant. It is our last evening before heading home to Warrington.Lovely friendly greeting. Had a chicken garlic Bhuna and my wife a special Balti. The food was as good as I have had at an Indian restaurant. Had wanted to visit Sopna for many years, so this week we booked a table as a treat. I'm afraid we won't be visiting again. When we arrived it was quite full and a queue waiting to collect their Takeaways. We were seen and taken to our table. The main door obviously has to be left open now so where we sat was cold. Waiter came over took our drinks order. In time drinks arrived and food order was taken. Starters arrived quickly and were tasty. In the meantime more customers arrived that had not booked by the sounds of it but were taken to a table. Another crowd came in and these were also taken to table. Now this restaurant isn't big so this meant tables were put close to eachother. Definitely no social distancing here. We sat for approx over half an hour with empty plates in front of us and empty glasses. Our main meals arrived and table had not been cleared. They waiter rolled his eyes and cleared the table but left the empty glasses. Sadly the food was not to our expectations. Very bland no taste to two of the meals. The texture of the chicken didn't seem right. Very greasy chips. Such a disappointing meal. We waited for drinks for a while and when they did arrive we'd had enough. We told the waiter we were not happy at all. He apologied and said they were short staffed. If this was the case they should Not have taken in more customers. The queue for the takeaway was to the door and some waited for nearly an hour. Didn't feel safe here as no social distancing at all and not sure if any track and trace going on. We booked our table online. We eat out regularly but this was our second night out since C19. Such a let down. So disappointed as we were looking forward to much trying this award winning restaurant.

Pre-ordered a large takeaway through the website, and collected once open. Very helpful with accommodating for a vegan, and apologised for if the flavour wasn't as good due to not being cooked in gee. No need to have apologised - was all very delicious :-) Free drinks given with order, with welcoming and friendly staff.Food was all really authentic and tasty - great flavours, and as visitors to the area, we all agreed it was even better than our favourite local :-) Highly recommended. If you're local, or just a visitor to the area, please help to keep this place open by giving it your business - times are hard for small businesses at the moment. Will look forward to hopefully ordering again when we return one day.

Well worth stopping at this unpretentious looking restaurant on the way into Caernarfon from Llanberis. The staff are attentive and very pleasant, the food good and quickly delivered.They also have a good non-alcoholic lager (Cobra) for the drivers and non-drinkers.The ambiance is not ideal ; the main room is all white and a bit like a canteen, but the food and service more than compensate.

Staff were very welcoming and friendly! The food was delicious with the right about of spice. It was a very good portion size and came in reasonable time. I believe it was all at a fair price, would highly recommend the visit :) We will definitely come back very soon!

I asked for a chicken massala but with extra spice. Me and the waiter decided I wanted it as hot madras when it arrived it was perfect, its so inconsistent in so many places that your request is listened to for me it's almost gamble. The mushroom rice and naan were both amazing, cooked perfectly nothing greasy BUT check out the onion barges. I ordered the set meal for one. The chef cooked the food with real and love care . coming from a restaurant industry worker myself I can tell! and was really happy to dine here. The next time I'm in this area I will invite a group of friends to enjoy this experience defiantly. See you again

I never usually write bad reviews but after the takeaway tonight I feel I have too. We ordered meat samosas which weren't homemade and to be honest they were the best thing we had. I ordered a lamb and mushroom balti with keema rice and my wife had a chicken tikka biriyani. Both meals tasted the same and the curries looked the same colour. There was no seasoning, both meals were bland and both had no spice or heat. I would have taken photos but after a few mouthfuls they ended up in the bin. Really disappointed as we've had good food from here previously. Won't be going back

But came upon it by chance on the way back to the campsite and dinner was sorted. Lovely dishes, everything tasty and freshly cooked. Plenty of meat in the dishes and portion sizes were not skimpy.

Had a delightful meal on the last night of our holiday ( Friday 11 September 2020) in the Caernarfon area. The food and service was outstanding and the warm greeting by one of the partners was genuine.The menu is extensive with dishes to suit all tastes but we opted for a set meal which we highly recommend.A warm and comfortable atmosphere and its cleanliness was incredible.Highly recommend the Sopna despite being out of Caernarfon but well worth the short journey.We' ll be back without doubt.

We first visited Sopna in March after a recommendation from a regular and had a great meal then, however this time was even better!!The food was excellent as before, very well cooked and perfectly timed from when we ordered. Most impressive was the excellent service as we where made to feel very welcome. Had a lovely chat with one of the waiters (sorry I didn’t ask his name) but overall a great night and we would definitely recommend to anyone as it’s well worth the trip. Thank you.

This was quite a surprise. When our B&B host suggested it as a last minute meal idea we weren't expecting much. Even driving up to it you're presented with an old Welsh farmhouse in the middle of nowhere, on this occasion with Jamaican Reggae music playing as you enter.The food was very impressive. While they had all the usual options, there were a variety of dishes I'd never heard of and feeling brave through myself into it. All our food was really tasty with some very interesting spices used to complement the traditional ones. Be warned, the servings are huge and a single dish with sides would have been enough for the two of us. We left feeling very very full bit it turned out to be an excellent decision, well priced and quite an experience.

Best meal we’ve had out for years! Passed this restaurant by chance and decided to give it a go- had an amazing curry to share; so tasty and portions were very generous. Met a lovely gentlemen who made us feel very welcomed and we were both very impressed by his welsh! stopped at a local caravan park and found this place on Google. Seemed to have good reviews etc so ordered a takeaway. Collection set for 6pm. Got there, looked a nice place and loads of takeout customers. Not overly impressed with the attitude of the younger of the staff, wasn't warming at all. The older gentleman seemed really nice and bubbly though. Anyway got there before 6 and watched a few people walk in after me and collect their takeaways. Finally got mine close to 20 past 6. Got back to the caravan and the chips were missing, baring in mind we've ordered them for the kids!! The 2 curries we ordered were butter chicken and chicken tikka masala and the ONLY difference between the 2 dishes was the colour of the sauce!! If I was colour blind I would have thought I'd ordered two of the same dishes. On a plus side the starters were nice and so was the rice, nan bread and poppadoms. Decent price but not sure I'd give it another go although maybe I've just had a bad experience‍♂️

We dropped into this place en-spec just after opening time and were very pleased to be offered a table. The staff were lovely, and the food was very nice indeed. We opted for the set meal for 2 and were pleased with the portion size and value for money. The establishment certainly wasn't the cleanest, nor did it have the ambience one might expect of an award winning eatery but it did the job. The food was good and at a reasonable price. One area that I would say was disappointing was the toilets......with only a single cubicle, one sink, no hot water and no hand drier one is not acceptable for a restaurant these days, and certainly not during this pandemic.

We had a table booked for 7pm. The restaurant was packed and they clearly hadn't been reserving tables for us and several other parties in the queue. We were then given a table in the middle of the room with no distance between ourselves and other diners. Chairs were grabbed from other tables and given to us. They were not wiped down. People were being put at tables in the yard at the back with no covers or umbrellas. It was a cool evening and threatened rain. We felt so unsafe we got up and left. You've lost yourself a regular customer.

We called in the driving rain on the off chance. We would certainly visit again. Food was excellent, got lots of it and was served really fast despite how busy they were. The shashlick was the stand out dish. It’s not the ritz inside but I quite liked it’s no nonsense cottage interior. Staff lovely too.

We booked a table here last minute and was happy when they said that they could fit us in. We turned up to the restaurant at 7 and was greeted by a member of staff. He didn’t seem very welcoming, we told him that we had a table booked and he just pointed to any one that was available and from watching throughout the night this is all he was doing, there was no booking in desk or anything which showed us a lack of organisation. The floor was a mess, the table cloths were stained and to be honest we didn’t enjoy the food that much either. We were glad to see staff wearing gloves and visors/masks due to the pandemic, until we realised that the member of staffs gloves were stained yellow from the food and he wasn’t changing them in between handling fresh food and dirty plates. When it came to asking for the bill we ended up waiting 20 minutes for him to come back with it and even then he forgot to bring the card machine with him. We won’t be using this place again.

we visited here while on holiday this week as we love our Indian food. I was impressed that they had one an award in 2018 so had good expectations. It was relatively quiet when we arrived and we were seated at a table. This table was covered in tiny dead flies. It was a hot week and this is wales so wasn't overly concerned but we took it upon ourselves to move tables. The fire door was open and there seemed to be people mulling around outside drinking which seemed strange and was a little off putting so my husband closed the door. The restaurant itself is very tired looking and would really benefit from a make over. The place started to fill up as our food arrived. The food was very nice once it had been thrown on the table. The staff in the main were quite present but again just lacked the finishing touch. One was smart and the other looked like he had slept in his bog brothers clothes for a week. The toilets were poor. Could be so much better with a bit of care and attention and a lick of paint. There had clearly been a leak in the ceiling some time ago!

My wife and I were holidaying near this restaurant so thought we’d give it a try, especially as we knew we would benefit from the ‘Eat out, Help out’ discount. Obviously, many other couples and families had the same idea!!Arrived at 6.30pm for our 7.00pm table booking. Every table was occupied and there were lots of people waiting around for takeaways. Whilst we did get to our table for just after 7pm, there seemed very little organisation, and one couple were sat nearly an hour before being given a table. We also saw a number of groups (including a family of 5) give up waiting and walk out.Food was reasonable, though nothing out of the ordinary, but the service was poor and our waiter miserable. Quite simply, they were at least 2 waiter/waitresses under-staffed and didn’t really seem to care. With more staff front-of-house, it would have been a more enjoyable experience.

We were excited to try this Indian restaurant near to where we were staying. I'm not writing this review to stop people going ... It's more to warn people. I booked a collection for 5:45 pm but it wasn't ready until 6 pm. I had to stand in their restaurant for 15 mins which I felt very uncomfortable doing. Especially as it got busier and busier. We weren't eating in as we didn't want to spend any time inside. I literally had nowhere to be other than in the way. All the places we have eaten at have provided disposable menus and cutlery already wrapped once we have arrived. I did notice they don't do that and people were sat very close together.When I finally returned we were sadly missing our popadums. We had the dips though!! The food was barely warm and both of our dishes stained our fingers, tongue and even teeth yellow!! It was also far too salty. Such a shame as they are clearly popular.

Although the service was average, the food was warm to almost cold when it arrived at our table, not very good. The lamb was tender, but there was only 3 pieces in my dish, not very good. So overall, it was a very disappointing meal. Will not be going back.
