I like the old school vibe in this eatery. The fish is big and it's crispy. Never had a bad fish and chips

We married at Gretna Green on 29 November and decided to have a takeaway after the ceremony. I had seen great reviews for Solway Cafe on Tripadvisor so we went there for a fish supper for my husband and chips and cheese for me. The haddock was freshly cooked and my husband loved it. We both loved the chips which were perfectly cooked and the taste of the vinegar was amazing as we normally can hardly taste it. The meal was great value and the service was very friendly. I would highly recommend Solway Cafe.

Smashing Fish Supper from this cafe takeaway. I haven’t had a good fish supper for a long time and this was great. Fresh cooked fish and chips and loved the old style of this cafe, unique and friendly staff.

Legendary Restaurant compared to any other in annan, I love their chips and cheese.

Batter was soft and undercooked, yet fish was hard. It was most disappointing.

Always fresh cooked and top quality food with friendly and attentive staff. Everything is usually cooked on order so be prepared for a short wait but it's always worth it!!

This fish and chip shop with cafe is very good indeed. The haddock was so fresh and the chips were crisp and tasty. The value is first class, the portions are generous and the staff are friendly and helpful. Real chip shop vinegar too and a selection of old fashioned sweets! Well worth visiting for some of the best fish and chips you will have anywhere.

Good breakfast, good service and friendly staff

We decided to have a sit in here for lunch on our walk back along the High Street. We really enjoyed it. Fish supper, spicy fries. Chips, cheese and gravy. Was lovely.

Sweet Chilli Haggis with spicy chips, carton of Irish curry sauce. So looking forward to this, unfortunately they must have dropped the spicy seasoning in my meal. It was thick on both the chips and the haggis, making both nearly inedible. Only saved a portion of the meal by scraping the seasoning into the bin. Definitely not recommending this chip shop, poor meal and very poor service.

Great local chip shop, haggis supper made to order was fantastic.

Very clean and well presented cafe. The staff were very friendly and food was fantastic. We had fish, chips, battered sausage, chicken nuggets, beans and the Irish curry sauce. All was cooked perfectly, the curry sauce was especially nice.

Great service WITH exceptionally good fish/chips I'll travel 6miles for it.

Brilliant, non greasy, high quality food. The haggis and chips is my favourite from here. Sausages and fish are lovely as well. Staff are polite and food is cooked fresh to order. They've won awards and it's no wonder why. You can sit in or takeaway. Great food, nice atmosphere. Will be going again multiple times.

Wanted something quick and easy as we had just arrived in Annan, Found this lovely little place. Not alot of seating but they managed to squeeze us in, Food was lovely good value for money.

What a lovely meal my family and I have just enjoyed from here. It took about 20 mins to wait, but it's cooked fresh to order and if you phone ahead, the wait won't be as bad. The chips are to die for and the haggis was unbelievable in every way from flavour to texture to even the batter, it was phenomenal. highly recommended. I'm going for the foot long sausage next time I go there. I can't wait. I took mine home but they have a seating area inside and even double as a sweet shop. Very enjoyable, highly recommend.

Great service with a smile and good food at a reasonable price

Stopped in on our way home from Newcastle for a bite to eat. Chips fab and the spicy curry sauce was amazing!

I doubt many cafes do all three of these, but it its possible to go the Solway Cafe, order some fish and chips to take away, buy some old style sweets like midget gems from jars, and have a sit down meal, which makes it really unique. Also if you do decide to eat in, the meals are very reasonably priced. £ 5.50 is excellent for macaroni and chips, the portions were generous and well cooked. Staff were friendly, as were the regulars, and I had a little bit of banter with Marco( one of the staff) about England losing in the Euros. A nice cafe with all meals well under £ 10 and their drinks are reasonably priced. For those of you who like old fashioned sweets, 100 grams will cost you a reasonable£ 1.10. Do visit the Solway Cafe, which is in Annan town centre on High St, as it's a bargain and the meals are good value.

There was a queue to get served. But once you taste the food you know why there's a queue!

Best F&C's in Annan no question

It's been a while since I reviewed the Solway Cafe as I've always found this establishment to be first class. The food is fresh and cooked to order, there is no pre-cooked food in their hot cabinets. Their fish & chips were first class as always, but they really do need to sort out the way that they take orders as the staff seamed to be confused as to what customers had ordered.

AMAZING!!!! We live in a little village 3 mile away so Annan is out local place for shops ect, the solway cafe is far better( and cheeper) than other places in town!!

We've used this place 2 or 3 times now; we had to come back after just getting some really nice chips when walking past one cold and blustery day. It is a normal chippy, but also has a sit down part where you can just have a coffee/ tea (food is chip shop menu). Being a cafe you can get chippy type food from around midday right through to when it closes at night, rather handy. The weird extra bonus is it is also an old fashioned sweet shop, selling loose sweets by the 1/2, sorry 250g. It sells other sweets too. Bought Lemon bon-bons for the journey back home... Back to the food, the fish is highly recommended, caught from sustainable fishing grounds, it was a home made pie which was really nice, chips excellent, mushy peas excellent (no good for veggies though as they had pieces of ham the day we ate in the cafe). There was a good range of other items including some odd ones (sweet chilli haggis?) so likely to be something you fancy.

Went here for fish and chips as they use vegetable oil unlike the Cafe Royal, was certainly not disappointed absolutely first class and vegetarian friendly, Food was of the highest standard and service was first class, will certainly be using here from now on, also far cheaper than it’s lustrous rival who don’t like criticism

Have been to this place twice now and really love the home cooking. It is not flash but the servings are ample and all food is cooked fresh like Mum used to make,. Breakfast is huge and at a great price. Excellent coffee and they have decaf too. Love being able to buy sweeties from the jars after my meal. Good clean toilets too. Basic but homely fare. Good menu.

Superbly run, long established family business, headed by stalwarts Giovanni, Chrissie and other members of the Toni households. They cook their tasty products as per request immediately after ordering, making you feel it's a personal honour. Apart from being an excellent fish and chip shop the café side is very popular with friendly local regulars creating a convivial atmosphere. But not just these top quality's, this is surely the best plaice (pun sorry) in Town for choice of confectionery, namely, those tall glass/plastic jars where u can buy a quarter bag! Takes you back years - Kola Cubes, Sour Plumes, Sherbet, Licorice and much, much more - Spoiled for Choice? That's what you went in for!!

Not as clean as it used to be, grubby carpets loose shower heads etc... think i.ll try premier inn next time in dfs which is a shame as I've always used Travelodge for over years. Internet was hopeless. 😮😥

Extremely expensive. Average at best food. Took 15 minutes to actually get served with no one in line before me. Won't be back.

I used to go here regularly and have sit down meals, they were okay but not up to my satisfactory standards. The food tasted cheap and it wasn’t bad but considering how much I paid it was a rip off. I like the sweetie selection though, that’s up to standard.
