Soho in Newcastle upon Tyne

Totally lovely & we went in for drinks but the smell of the food was too much so we had a king prawn Katsu curry each & shared a mango & strawberry cheesecake for afters . It tasted amazing & had lovely flavors . We had a couple of bottles of wine & was it great friendly service & 5 stars . Chilled bar & we will be back thank you x

Had a great night here, our waitress Sam Sandwell was amazing and so lovely I would definitely recommend! She made us feel so welcome and comfortable at a place we’ve never been before. Xx

Si te preguntas acerca de este lugar, ¡pruébalo! No lo dejes tanto tiempo como yo. Ojalá hubiera ido mucho antes que ayer. Fue increíble. La comida y el personal dieron en el clavo. Pedí el Kimchi Set, el Japanese Meat Platter y el crepe de postre. Estaba lleno pero no pude resistir el postre. La decoración era perfecta y relajante para el establecimiento. Solo sugeriría cuchillos más afilados para platos de carne y una cucharada y un tenedor para el postre crepé.

I went for late lunch/early tea. Very well socially distanced tables etc. Very friendly staff and delicious food, I'll definitely go back.

We had a lovely evening at soho, the staff were so nice and friendly however the food isn’t worth the price! It’s a shame for the great atmosphere, more focus on the food would go a long way

We celebrated my sons 18th birthday Saturday night... the evening was just perfect.. the food was amazing service very good.. I would highly recommend and as always a greeting by Kevin and his family makes your visit special

Soho is the new collaboration with Kevin Lui & partners so we had high expectations - and of course we were not disappointed. Gone are the former dark walls of the original Bar Soho with a fresh and clean makeover. The service is friendly and always good to see Kevin mingling with the customers. The menu is plentiful with great offers at lunchtime and also early evening. We have now visited this place 5 times as it is very convenient if you’re in town or after work (round the corner from RVI Hospital). On each visit we have opted for the Box which includes your starter, side salad, rice & main choice. Totally delicious and thoroughly recommend. Perfectly presented and just the right amount without that “post chinese food bloat” and then hungry later . Well done to all, go check out this place, you won’t be disappointed!!!

My partner and I visited on a Sunday afternoon and could not fault the food or service. The restaurant has recently changed owners and has a nice relaxed vibe inside. The waitress serving us was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The owner was also very friendly and made a point of chatting, which is a nice rarity! The food...we started with the squid, duck spring rolls, California maki and the ‘dynamite’ sushi. The dynamite sushi was a particular favourite, beautiful big pieces of salmon and avocado with a hint of chilli and delicious crispy shallots, taste sensation! For mains we had pork udon noodle soup, beef bulgogi and a side of kimchi. The soup broth was full of flavour, unlike a lot of similar dishes I’ve had elsewhere which taste like stock cube in hot water! The beef was tender and the rice was beautifully cooked. The kimchi was a good addition as we like a bit of spice! I really hope this restaurant does well because I’m already thinking of my next visit!

Best meal I’ve had in town for years, wasabi prawns, amazing, squid, amazing, and the beef was the best I’ve ever had, brilliant service and I can wait to go back to try the sea food platter.. x

Visited last night with friends. Excellent food with a great menu and first class service. Great atmosphere. We will be back

Last minute decision to go out on a Saturday night with friends resulted with us going to this newly opened restaurant. I noticed it when I went to the match at St James Park the week before, and saw that the Bar Soho, had changed to the Korean and Japanese Restaurant Soho. We arrived about 9.30 and the restaurant had only 4 tables occupied, so were a bit worried. The manager greeted us and we sat down to look at the menu, its very much casual dining as opposed to a restaurant, and that probably works for the match traffic or the students who live close by. We ordered quite a few starters and were not disappointed with a mix of tempura, sushi, meats and some vegetarian options. The Big plates were a bit of a let down, and that's why they did not get an excellent rating, it was more like what you would get with Wagamama, which means they were nice, but after the quality of the starters, were not as good. They had just opened the week before, and still finding their feet, so I will definitely be back to try again and hopefully enjoy it more. Good luck!

Bear in mind as you read these reviews about a quarter seem to have this confused with the soho nightclub. This is a Japanese-Korean fusion restaurant near Eldon gardens. Went here with a friend last night, both ordering noodle soup, chicken ramen for me and seafood udon for her. Service was good, we were seated quickly and asked about drinks and orders in good time. Unfortunately for me, I found the chicken in my bowl undercooked, the noodles overcooked and glutinous, and we both had an issue with the broth being very, very bland. Asked for chilli sauce and were given something closer to sweet&sour.Nonetheless, the server did notice I hadn’t eaten much at all and asked what was wrong, and took it back to the kitchen to discuss with the chef. She cut it from the bill without me asking and offered to bring something else out instead, which was very nice of them. I imagine the other food would’ve been better and this was a slip-up as the restaurant was relatively busy and other customers seemed happy.

Found this restaurant by chance and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The menu is Japanese & Korean food. I had salmon, which was a dish to behold. The salmon melted in my mouth.

I love Japanese food, so when I saw that a new Japanese and Korean street food place had opened up just down the road I was deeply interested.The decor is very nice, and the service received was great. Sadly you don’t go to a Japanese restaurant for decent service, you come for great food, and that’s where the restaurant falls down. It’s offering is distinctly average.Not bad, but if a choice between here and Yo Sushi! Is on your mind this place is not better on the basis of the foods sampled, much better at all despite the superior bistro style decor. The prawn nigiri in particular was very poor, the chicken teriyaki very average, and the Korean BBQ wings was poor as well. The food was slow to arrive as well.Wish I’d not gone overall. Excellent service with smile filled service staff yes, and clearly this place has only been open a couple of weeks now, so hopefully it will improve. Overall poor though.If you’re considering this for a business luncheon with clients I’d say absolutely not, they will not be impressed by this place.

Fuimos a este restaurante por casualidad para cenar temprano, y definitivamente volveremos a visitarlo. Creo que usan buenos ingredientes. Las cosas estan limpias. El revestimiento fue agradable.

Fui allí para una cena tarde en la noche. Pedimos un filete de cordero a la parrilla, pan de cerdo y yakisoba. El cordero era excelente (en la forma en que lo cocinan). El bollo está un poco desaprobado (¡lo siento! No lo pruebo como coreano) y el yakisoba estaba bien. En general, el ambiente es un gran lugar para reunirse con amigos con bebidas y algunos aperitivos pequeños.

Vi este restaurante mientras estaba con mi esposa, y decidimos ir a cenar un sábado por la noche. Buen ambiente informal, con un personal muy amable y atento. Decidimos tener una mezcla de tapas de platos pequeños japoneses y coreanos. No nos decepcionó. . Teníamos gambas tempura, colas de langosta, selección de sushi, chiles coreanos (¡un plato muy sabroso!) y papas fritas con chile. ¡Una excelente variedad de gustos! Con cerveza y vino, 43. Fantástica comida, ¡definitivamente volveremos!

Came to soho after visiting the place more than weekly for over 2 years with no problems, group of 14 students and my boyfriend. Only Person asked for ID was my boyfriend, the only person without student ID. 1. If you are going to enforce rules then be consistent. 2. You lost the business of 15 people.x

Always drink here after shopping, never again, had to send Prosecco back: dirty glass, rotten strawberry, customer service not good, we were not the only ones to return drinks!!!! Bar staff weren’t bothered 😕

After running through fields of grass at the Town Moor, I love nothing more than to get naughty at SOHO. The place does get busy, nonetheless the bouncers are strong and stable individuals that are here to protect our national interest in challenging times.

Volvimos el sábado y recordaron que era bueno ya que mucha gente estaba allí. Definitivamente regresaría de nuevo

Se ve fabuloso cuando he pasado y realmente quería ver lo que era indide, así que decidí ir a ver hoy, sábado a la hora del almuerzo. Había dos miembros del personal y ni un solo cliente, uno desapareció cuando entramos y el otro dijo que volvería en un minuto y también desapareció. Decidimos recoger el menú para ver si estaba disponible, solo para descubrir que estaba sucio y que cada página estaba manchada de comida. Decidimos no esperar a la camarera y nos fuimos.

Good music, but seems to be a student place. Enjoy myself but felt a little bit too old even tho I’m on 23. Not really sure where the dance floor is, quite small

Used to serve great foreign beers, now serve bog standard lagers and dull bitter. Cider had to be returned as it was flat and the Guinness was disgusting. Not be coming back here in a hurry.

Habíamos llegado hasta el west end/zona del estadio de la ciudad, estábamos comiendo en la calle Stowell y no queríamos demasiado lejos para ir andando. Soho parece que funciona como una comedia/club nocturno. Sin embargo, la zona de la planta baja es un típico bar. Accesorios de asientos cómodos y decente y el montaje realizado para una agradable experiencia. Los precios y la calidad de la cerveza era excelente. Un sospechoso/cóctel amargo intenté pero era menos de 6 libras, así que no hay grandes pérdidas. La clientela era de 40- 50 de parejas que cabía nuestra demografía. Hay otros bares deberías probar (Loco, Belim House, Shark Bar) alrededor y hacer una noche de Soho en esta zona menos transitada de una gran ciudad.

Si eres un estudiante que ya sabe y si buscas una gran noche que pronto! Recuerde que aunque newcastle es famosa por 3 triples para un 5er pero en soho es 2 triples (blueberry si quieres el mejor) y una bomba jäeger!

I love this place it makes the best bar none Long Island ice tea and has a great range of beer staff are excellent location is easy to get to and has a very laid back feel we go here whenever we are in town

Llamamos para comer como el lugar parecía bueno.

Visitó a principios de mes con mi novio para tener un par de copas antes de ir a comer. Aunque estaba lleno y parecía corto de personal detrás de la barra, la señora kep tranquilo y muy profissional. Cócteles muy agradable y a un precio razonable. Nunca tuvimos una comida aquí, pero no pocos visitantes y parecía agradable, sin duda volveré, ya que es muy fácil de acceder y no demasiado lejos de la vida en el centro de la ciudad.

Paramos aquí en nuestro camino a St James Park para ver el rugby. Absolutamente fantástica hamburguesa y también venden Brooklyn lager de barril - perfecto! Esta fue nuestra primera visita, pero estamos decididos a hacer de esta una parada regular cuando estamos en la ciudad de ahora en adelante.

Great day and night of dance, the food and drink were excellent and staff attention to detail very good, would highly recommend these two venues for value for money.

Salsa on Thursday nights at Soho are so fun. The venue is really nice as well and the staff are friendly and very helpful.

Tenía la carne de hamburguesa soho y me encantó, la placa trasera prácticamente enviado lamieron los limpia. También muy educado y cordial personal. Sinceramente no me puedo quejar del lugar.

I have no explanation for our experience, and neither did the manager, but our experience was awful.4 of us went for a midweek lunch, and ordered a range of meals, mine being a burger. The burger was described as a 6 or 8oz (I can't remember which) prime beef, gourmet burger. What I received was a worse than a burger van piece of cardboard in a bun. I literally snapped the "meat", it was so hard and dry. If that wasn't bad enough someone at another table ordered the same thing, and got a much better looking burger. After asking the waiter what was going on, and why my burger was so bad, I was told that it was the same as the other person's, and this was how all the burgers came. The service staff refused to accept that the burgers were entirely different. I had to interrupt another table to physically display the two burgers side by side before the staff accepted the issue. I was neither offered another burger, nor anything else as replacement, and to our amazement and horror, they even tried to charge us for it. We refused to pay, and this caused yet more "issues". It'a clear this restaurant is operated by people who don't know what they're doing, or how to run a kitchen or front of house. Needless to say, we won't be returning, and I highly recommend avoiding this place.

Nice burger and a lovely pint! Popped in one afternoon after some shopping. Found the food to be well priced. Really nice burger came with chips and a side salad that was very tasty. Manager told me they had just launched a new menu so will definitely be back to try the nacho sharing platter. Excellent range of lagers on the bar (I sampled a pint of Moretti which came in a nice branded glass). looking forward to trying a gin cocktail or 3 on my return. Very courteous staff and great value for money!!!

I stumbled over this place a month or so ago and since then I have made it a regular haunt.Good quality, well priced food and drinks, a great selection of beers, wines and cocktails to keep every palate satisfied and best of all, their big glass gins! Nice clientele, pleasant staff and a great looking, boutique style bar.

Had a few drinks here and the range of beers and wines is great. The atmosphere is great also. Will be back.

I visited Soho as a catch up with friends for Christmas drinks before our holidays .. I have been in once before a long time ago and only thought it was average but on returning, the menu has been updated and includes some new and very nice dishes, including deep-fried bree and the Soho burger which was very nice and very cheap! Cocktails were outstanding and choice was extensive. Everyone behind the bar was lovely and easy to chat to and the atmosphere was very chilled out. Had a good night out in Soho and will definitely be back!

I was very impressed with Soho having never been before but passed it many times. I am a big fan of a vodka martini...when done properly, and Soho was certainly able to provide.There was a really nice upmarket, yet relaxed atmosphere. A large range of cocktails which the group I was with said were all fantastic. I would highly recommend and look forward to going back.

Popped in for a drink before a meal. Was busy but waited a long time to get served. Nice atmosphere and pleasant surroundings. Would go again.

This is by far the worst place I have ever eaten, me and my boyfriend were the only 2 in this place, we ordered a burger and a panini. With my boyfriend being a chef we know how long food takes and the quality of food, after We made our order my drink was forgotten, it then took 50 minutes for our food to come out, when it came my boyfriend burger was cold, my panini had no cheese when I asked for some. My panini also had 4 extremely small strips of chicken and about 6 diced pepper, I can't even explain how sparse it was. After we had waited so long it was appalling, I couldn't sit and wait any longer for them to fix it, we had to leave in the end and for our money back for our food. It would have been nice to have some apology drinks instead of making us pay for them, such a disappointment after I have been dieing to try this place

We came upon this bar almost by accident last Saturday, we liked the modern look of it and stopped to have a drink. Immediately upon entry, we tripped over the step! It really should be made obvious that there is a step there or someone is going to get hurt. There was only one member of staff serving and it was pretty obvious she was rushed off her feet, but she was very pleasant and we didn’t wait long to be served. We shared a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc which we thought it was reasonably well priced at £10.50 (we paid £20 for the same wine in the Earl of Pitt Street so we felt like we had got a bit of a bargain!) and we both enjoyed it. I don’t think we will be back but it was fine for a couple of drinks.

We went in for drinks early evening after the rugby world cup match Scotland v Samoa. we all had traveled far and wide, had a great night, staff were very very friendly and joyfull, left about 11ish, next morning realized I had lost my sporran which had my mobile phone and money in it, the staff found it and contacted one of my party via my mobile to let me know as soon as they had found it and was returned with the phone and all the money, I was so happy, and it's great to know that there are very honest people in Newcastle, thanks a million to the manager Simon that sorted it all out for me.

Bar Staff fabulous,hard working and could not do enough. food bog standard do not employ a chef so bar staff and assistant general manager manned kitchen so not a good idea. Although bar staff etc did a sterling job

Very nice pub, bit pricey but there is a huge Health and Safety issue here. There is a door leading into the pub which has this very dangerous step as soon as you get in. No indication of such a step, only when you fall down it!! as happened to me on Saturday, one very badly bruised arm and one broken wrist watch, mm not a happy bunny. The Manager addressed the situation but that is not the point. This needs to be addressed, as I heard several others had tripped on that same offending step. This is a hazard, so all intending customers BEWARE.

I visited with my friends for some drinks following a meal nearby. The bar and seating area was pleasant and trendy. The staff were friendly and the prices of drinks were reasonable. The place was very clean and had a relaxed atmosphere. I liked the boutique style decor with fancy wallpaper and long plush curtains. Would return again if I was in the area.

Having had lunch at Soho Bar before, we popped in today for a bite to eat. It's in a great location just outside of Eldon Garden and next to St James Park. It's nicely decorated and comfortable. There was an extensive drinks menu, with a great choice of cocktails at reasonable prices. Then we looked at the lunch menu. What a complete disappointment. Soup, paninis or nachos. That was it!! We went for a panini. Considering there was only two other busy tables, we waited a little while for our food. Then realised the poor barman was making them behind the bar. No kitchen??? Very strange. Anyway it arrived, no garnish, no cutlery, no condiments, and I'd probably even say no cheese in mine, just placed on a black napkin on the plate. A polite young man told us to ask if we wanted anything else. I don't know why things have changed since our last visit, but it certainly wasn't for this best. I'd definitely go in for drinks but will be avoiding the food next time.

Ended up visiting twice over a weekend. Friday with friends, few drinks before a gig. Seemed nice enough, pleasant surroundings and nice cocktails. Went back on Sunday as we'd spotted a 2 for £8 mojito deal only to be told it wasnt on? Strange when there were posters all over advertising it - stating sunday and no time scale! Not to worry still bought them but for full price :-( Anyway trip to loo was needed - how vile are these toilets, the smell was just awful just so off putting and no excuse in my opinion. So the misleading drinks deal and dirty toilets give this place a thumbs down from me and unfortunately no repeat visit will be happening any time soon.

We have gone to Soho regularly over the past few years & it has always been a favourite place. However, we will be giving it a miss from now on. On a few occasions over the past few months I have felt that the standards are declining. The staff are pleasant, but they seem disinterested & don't seem happy in their work. There is such a terrible smell, mainly downstairs and in the WC's, but you can get a whiff of it upstairs at times. I'm not sure if it is the drains or perhaps neglect on the owners part? Evidently the owner is aware & clearly not bothered as he is letting it persist! The smell has been there for months & months. The ladies WC's used to be pristine, now they are tatty & messy. I have also seen one review that mentions a rat in the bar.With the choice & standards of bars & eateries elsewhere in Town now, why would we choose Soho...?

Got to say the choice of cocktails are fab. They are made to order with quality spirits and ingredients - delicious! Staff lovely (think you may need a few more as proper cocktail making takes time) the prices are reasonable and I will Def be back!

Went for pre match drinks n food, left wishing I hadn't bothered. Staff seemed to be ill prepared. Reduced choice matchday menu with little choice, when we arrived menu wasn't even ready for viewing. Asked if chips were home made and were assured they were, after waiting an age, some mediocre food turned up, the chips were mega greasy with old cooking oil, disgusting and inedible unless you wanna feel queasy? Oh and chips are frozen chips NOT homemade proper chips! Over priced given the poor quality food. I'd give this place a miss next time. The Strawberry is better!

This is a bar that we have visited on numerous occasions and is our favourite spot to complete a shopping trip in Newcastle. Very pleasant staff nice surroundings and reasonably priced. It can get very busy on the days Newcastle United are playing at home!

Came here for a few drinks one afternoon. Great choice in cocktails and a decent price. The staff were friendly and place is nicely decorated. We will be back soon.

Stopped by to meet pals before a game at St. James. They don't allow football colours inside, but even though we were away supporters there was no animosity. The menu was limited and our curiosity was aroused by 'a pint of chips' and 'a pint of chicken goujons.' These arrived as pint glasses full of said food - of which there were many chips but not as many goujons! We had planned to eat full meals there, but decided to eat elsewhere as we wanted something vaguely fresh. However, now we know that we would return fro drinks and snacks as the atmosphere was grand and it is in a great location!

Just a little rant ... Recently visited soho with my mam & 6 month old daughter. My little girl needed a nappy change, on asking staff (who had to ask another member staff) for the baby changing facilities I was told there was none, I then had to change my daughter on the disabled toilet floor ... (Which was big enough for a small changing table may I add) .... Now I know it's not law that they have to provide this but they have just lost my custom, just because you've had a baby can't you enjoy an afternoon glass of wine while shopping.

Nice bar for a drink after a meal in the area. It was very quiet for a Saturday evening but this meant we were able to have a good chat and actually able to hear each other.

I visited this place after passing it on the way to the Eldon Centre a few times, I wish I hadn't! The bar was characterless and absolutely dead!! I ordered a cocktail and the bartender told me to take a seat (to his credit). The mojito I ordered was awful, they'd put far too much sugar and water in it and clearly didn't know what they were doing. WORSE STILL THOUGH, AFTER 10 MINUTES OF SITTING DOWN A RAT RAN PAST OUR TABLE AND BEHIND THE BAR!!! I definitely won't be returning, there are far better bars in this great city

I love the drinks and I love the interior design, even though they don't have too much special events or offers, they have a really good phenomenon in SOHO!

I came in with my husband for a lovely evening of cocktails based on a recommendation from a friend. I had a mojito, a passionberry fizz and a mai tai. My husband had an espressso martini, a manhatten and a pint of Coors Light. All of the cocktails were incredible and excellently made. The staff really cared about creating well mixed drinks, not to mention just how polite they were! However there were some bad points, the downstairs bar area was covered in small flies which quite frankly was very off putting when going to the bathroom. I was also alarmed when a man who I presumed to be the manager stepped onto the bar to shout at a staff member, it really was awkward as a customer to witness this. The final problem was that the drinks prices for the cocktails are different from the prices stated in the drinks menu. It is bizarre that menus would be printed with the wrong prices.All in all we will be back as long as pest control are called in!

Tasteless and badly presented food this place is and always was only any good for drinks. The service is very poor only one member of staff on at lunchtime and early evening I felt so sorry for her

My husband and I called in on a Friday afternoon to eat. The place was empty but the music gave a fairly good atmosphere apart from some buzzing noise that droned on throughout. We ordered burgers, a vegetarian one for me and a lamb one for my husband. The buns looked, felt and tasted like they had been heated in the microwave. My vegeburger was dry, half cooked, lacked taste and stuck to my teeth. The frozen chips were utterly tasteless and the tzatziki runny and yes - had very little taste. Very disappointing as my husband had been really looking forward to it. On a positive note, the drinks were good and the member of staff who served us was very pleasant.I have been in the past on a Saturday lunchtime when the food had been much much better - shame this time it was dreadful. I wouldn't recommend and certainly won't return.

Went in for a coffee. The place is small but smart & cosy, the bar is cute, there is a downstairs bit which i presume is more for people having meals. On the downside the staff could do with being a bit more friendly, maybe a smile and a thank you.

Visited here with my 23 year old daughter and we were shocked at the poor hygiene. We will not be returning! I ordered a pot of tea and the tea pot was stained and dirty and so was the cup and saucer. We ordered a pizza and pasta and both were tepid in temperature. I told the waiter of the poor temperature and hygiene and he re-heated the food and brought another pot of tea. I did not even pour out the tea as once again the tea pot was in a poor state. Food returned hot and we ate it! The tables and chairs were sticky and the venue to felt unclean. I would not recommend this to anyone.

Had a pre-thretre dinner here, a place I had always wanted to visit when passing. As it was my friend's birthday I was afforded the opportunity when she suggested we eat here! Upon entering the establishment, I was very impressed by the post-modern, Sohoesque decor and the ambience; quite a few people patronising the venue was a positive sign.For dinner I ordered a starter of rustic bread a mixed olives, followed by a medium rare steak. I did not expect the two courses to arrive together. Well, I was in no mood to make waves, so just kept calm, and carried on tucking in. The rustic bread was really nice, as were the mixeed olives. Likewise, the steak was done perfectly, and the salad was vibrant and fresh, while the chunky, hand cit chips were actually real potato. The downside was there was no condiments, such as mustard with the steak, and, moreover, no steak knife. At that jI had to leave my meal and ask the barmen for these basic gastronomic essentials. He said he's oblige, but alas got side-tracked and, as I assume, forgot. This prompted a second trip by me to request these essentials for my dinner. At long last the over-worked barman arrived at my table without steak knife, stating that the venue has none, and therefore couldn't help me. As for the mustard, he plonked down a bowl of sachets, which I thought was somewhat lacking in class for such a nice establishment.This experience has not deterred me, and I will give Soho another try in the future.

Have walked past many times and thought I'd like to call in.......I eventually did......and was disappointed! What a shabby interior, rips in wallpaper, chairs that were so worn that the foam was showing,tables too close together! Then the food, we ordered burgers, too much sauce??? Onion rings awful, potatoes cold, the meal was awful. Would never go back and would never recommend going, place needs an overhaul! Probably a great place at night, when alcohol and darkness dull the senses!!!!

After shopping called in for something to eat. Although the menu is limited the service was good as was the food. The only complaint (if that's the right word) is that there was just far too much and we had to leave 30% of our meals and that was a struggle. However the food was hot and freshly cooked and could not be faulted, and was reasonably priced. The décor is tasteful and the staff were pleasant and helpful. Will call again.

Food was quick and just what we needed as we were hungry and a little stressed. Staff were friendly. Decent prices as well. Close to the RVI so ideal if you need to be popping in and out of there.

I love going to Soho for cocktails, they have so many and are always beautiful. Today we decided to have lunch as well. After ordering calzone and risotto we sat back at our table. 10 mins later a member of staff came to tell us there was no pizza for an hour. We asked for lasagne and were told there was none if that either. When our food arrived my risotto was stone cold, and it wasn't risotto just stodgy rice. The pasta we ordered was also only lukewarm. The prices are good but cold food is unforgivable.

My daughter is currently being treated at the RVI and has been for the last few months. We're not from Newcastle but have now eaten here 3 or 4 times. The bistro bar feel is really rather nice and the cocktails albeit pricey are very tasty too. The location of this is such that it should/could be a very successful little business. The prices are reasonable and the menu extensive but THE FOOD IS NEVER CONSISTENT! We get different kinds of onions in our bruschetta and different breads each time we go. Whoever dreamed up this menu should have a serious rethink. Not for the first time, we were told today that there was no pizza, dough balls or garlic bread. Then when my panini came it was not as it was described on the menu as somewhere along the line they've decided to stop using pesto in their tomato, mozzarella and pesto panini. If all the food that has to be ordered to keep a full menu going goes out of date before it gets used and then doesn't get reordered then surely this should tell you something about your business. You clearly don't have enough food customers to sustain a full menu but if you don't have a full or consistent menu then you're never going to keep the customers you do happen to bring in.

We have passed the bar many of time whilst shopping, one day we decided to go in for a bite to eat, when we entered there was no customers and no atmosphere . They gave us the wrong drink and when the food came it looked like a microwave meal. It was burnt , tasteless and nothing special the service was OK could have been better to be honest . I definitely wouldn't visit there again.

my gorgeous boyfriend and I have called in here several times for fab food and drink but sadly today was horrible...the only consolation was the sun shining and a nice cold bottle of beer...the food was disgraceful...burger was burnt beyond recognition and the Panini had a terrible scorched bottom...the salad was limp and the chips were full of fat!!! what a let down...this was one of our favourite places to go in the town but I think we will be giving this one a miss for quite some time or until they change their staff!!! the chef (if the person can be called that!!!) and the girl serving (she seemed hung over) were NOT a good advertisement for this establishment today...if the owner or the manager are reading these reviews you need to step up to the mark or you are going to loose a lot of your customers...get a grip and stop catering for the night boozers...good cocktails...crap food!!!

great ambiencenice bar staffgreat cocktail range - recommend the mojito and cosmogood music and not too loud so you can talk to each other without shouting.a little pricey for drinks but i suppose its too be expected given its location and range of drinks.definately recommended for a night out either pre/post meal.

I have visited Soho on numerous occasions over the last 3-4 years and I can say without a doubt that they offer some of the best cocktails in Newcastle. They are not cheap (around £7 per drink and no discounts or offers) but they are beautiful. They do THE best espresso martini around! The bar itself is beautifully decorated and always has a nice atmosphere and clientele. If you love your cocktails this is a must visit!

Went to Soho for a quick bite to eat on Tuesday gone (22nd April) and came away most disappointed. Upon arriving the place my wife and I noticed the place was busy with a mixture of people eating and drinking. We sat down and opted to order the ciabatta's which came with salad and decided to share a portion of chips. We went promptly ordered and both ordered a chicken ciabatta and then sat down and awaited our food to arrive. A member of staff then came over to say that we had no Ciabatta's left and only had burger buns if that was alright? He then informed us of having no salad!!! What was the point of having these on the menu when simple things like a salad you don't have in stock!!Came away from this place most disappointed and don't think i will be heading back for food in a hurry!!!

I entirely agree that the change of menu is a big mistake! We used to go to Soho regularly, loved sharing the Nachos, then having Chicken Teriyaki or similar, a lovely menu which was different from other places. Now they are serving mediocre pasta and pizza dishes which you can get in any old Italian restaurant. Might not go back other than for a drink unless they change the menu back again.

Been here many times and never fails to please. Menu used to be more varied.. But present menu of pasta, pizza or nibbles serves great tastind and excellent value food. Right in heart of city-next to St James Park but very serene aosphere and a millions metaphoric miles from the Bigg Market! Cocktails great-£4.95 for the best Moscow Mule in the city! Access straight into Hyena Comedy Club. Perfect

Having been recommended I thought we'd be in for a treat!? we approached the bar ,picked a table then sat . We looked at the menu I returned to the bar to be served by the same over-chatty Staff member who originally served us our drinks ! she had completely forgotten who we were ! I should have left then ! there were only 3 other couples in the place so its not like we were hidden behind a sea of faces !! after placing the order we sat....and sat.....and sat ..after 45 yes 45 minutes the doors opened and our order was given to another couple in the place who had ordered after us ! how did i know this ? we watched as the girl who served us at the bar originally tried to stop the other bar person from giving our order to the other couple....I wanted to leave then this was a farce after a further 20 mins or so we got our standard pub fayre meal...limp lettuce dry chips extremely dry 'gourmet' burger (do me a favour) and my wife's meal was no better who serves bruschetta style open sanwiches without balsamic or any other dressing it was totally dry and flavourless. When i went to the bar to pay the girl blanked me and when i asked to pay she said "what?" twice this is wrong she made me feel as if i was doing something wrong ......which i clearly had done by walking in there in the first place...oh yes someone kept fiddling with the sound system as well for the 2 hours we were in there one minute it was quiet and the next you couldn't hear yourself think what a joke ! c'mon guys if you're going to set yourselves up as offering something a little bit above then try and do it .

Have visited this bar twice (once for lunch - August and once for an early evening meal - October) and will be going back. Each time I was in a party of four and all had meals that they would order again. Ordered at the bar and met chatty staff who were able to make suggestions for things to do locally.

went to soho bar 7th december stood at bar for 15 minutes waiting to be served , longhaired blonde barmaid served others around me but not me. my girlfriend and i usually go every weekend . i walked out and wont be retuturning.

I knew there were restaurants on Leazes park Rd, so when meeting a friend for lunch at Haymarket bus station we headed to that area. First one we came to was Soho bar/bistro it looks very nice from the outside & after reading the menu, decided to give it a try. We were the first customers at 12.15am, I was impressed by the decor and the speedy service of the young waitress. The menu was very reasonably priced as was the house wine. My first choice from the menu was not available, but we were both very happy with our food, My open sandwich came with homemade chips to die for (a rare treat these days). We will be returning soon to sample the other dishes on the menu very soon.

I and a few mates have recently been to The Soho bistro bar on a birthday bash and I can truly say that we had an amazing night. I can really go on and on with the superbertys but to say in a nut shell excellent. Great venue, great atmosphere, great food, service and price. So if you are going out for any event or just going out Do Not miss this place out

Went for the first time on 21st August. We had a drink first and decided to have lunch there. The tables were all set for either two or three. The waiter kindly pulled two tables together for us. We shared nachos for a starter, then a main plus a bottle of red. Total cost was £49.95, very good value for money. I would recommend the salmon and aspargus risotto, although the portion is big it was lovely.

My daughter and I just happened to walk past while looking for somewhere for lunch, pleased we did. There's a menu outside so you can decide if it suits you before you go in. Great choice and average price of £7 per main course. I can recommend the Thai red curry and the homemade lasagne with a portion of homemade chips, we shared the cheesecake also homemade. Everything was lovely including the staff. Would recommend without a thought!

Amazing food and extensive cocktail and wine list! Whether grabbing a bite and a drink before a match across the road, or a nice night out - soho is the place to go!

this is the first time i have been to soho, and to say the food was delicious is an understatement! the waiting time for food is very small, even when its quite busy. the range of drinks available is excellent. the staffare warm and very friendly, the food was delicious and was very well seasoned to perfection. will definately be reccomending this to anyone who will listen! will be back in the very near future.thankyou soho for making my experience dining with you's so enjoyable!

Looking at reviews i was very sceptical about going to the hyena, but encouraged by friends to try it out i went for it. Warry of having food i asked if the same chefs were still in position( hopefully not after thexmas 11' reviews) and to e told 2 NEW CHEFS had been appointed. What the hell i went for 3courses and saying it was value for money is an inderstatement. A beautifully cooked steak for me and a well seasoned chicken for the missus. Starters were smallish but well presented and taste well. And because we were haveing a gd night and drinks were flowing the dessert was heaven. Comedy was second to none esspecialy one guy was brilliant but they cant all be funny. Waarm welcome by the bouncers who explained nicely a few rules about fnes. Totally acceptable. What a night and will be back again for sure. Hope to see some changes in the reviews now with the experience i hadThanks guys @hyena

I've ate here twice and both times they've not had my first two preferences on the menu despite not being warned prior to ordering. The waiter the second time actually said "we never have that i dont know why its on the menu" for my second choice - well i dont know either!! The food I did order was nice however and good value. Overall, Good unless you're wanting anything specific.

Nice place, nice staff, nice drinks, nice food it's nice to be nice, get yourself along and prove me wrong, difficult.

Only found this place by accident but so pleased I did. Place is modern and bright, spacious and trendy. Menu has enough to make you ponder long enough for your hungar to grow. Food is fresh cooked and as tasty as anywhere else I have been and paid a lot more for. Presentation and taste is second to none, priced right and service is polite, friendly and big smiles. Choice of drinks is huge. Overall, on my list of places to go out of your way to dine. Reccomend to all in the Leazes area of Newcastle.
