Great restaurant - a lovely setting and substantive menu. The price is mid range but you get a standard likely above most comparable venues in the area and certainly compared to venues with a view and location like this. The staff when we visited on a prime evening were quick, attentive and punctual with their service despite the restaurant being very busy. The menu is reasonable, the selection is wide although it caters better for meat eaters than not. The quality of the food is really good, not quite up there with slightly more expensive venues but really consistent … which nowadays isn’t at all a given. As a vegetarian I stuck to non meat options but the meat is probably the better choice than the non meat items. However the pear beetroot and chicory was exceptional, the sorbets were great, and the vegetable curry was very good. I was not as much of a fan of the passion fruit posset but it does get good reviews from others. Would thoroughly recommend for an occasion meal in central London and would struggle to recommend many better locations and offerings.

I would not recommend coming here, especially as a young woman. I was dining here with my family earlier last month, and when I went to get my coat from the cloak room alone, was approached by a older male member of staff who said I had a "pretty face" that was "nice to look at" and that I must have a "happy boyfriend". I felt extremely uncomfortable especially as this man had been waiting on our table all afternoon and I felt had been waiting for the right moment to be alone to make these disgusting comments. There are plenty of other restaurants within central London where you can get food just as good and way better service - don't waste your time or money here.

We just came for some drinks, and the wines we chose were nice, but the place lacks soul. There is no atmosphere at all, just bunches of girls or boys celebrating something, the service is good and the view is outstanding, but it lacks a certain oomph to it . Which is a shame as the location is so good .

Everything was great apart from the managers tone and how he spoke to us. The drinks were well made, the staff were knowledgable and it was a nice, relaxed atmosphere. However, when leaving and asking to find the toilet, the manager(?), Anthony, kind of spoke down to us and we felt a little uncomfortable. A poor end to a good time.

Incredibly bad service. With place relatively quiet we waited over 90 minutes for our starters. The waiter got some of the drinks wrong and then some of the food orders wrong. The food itself is beyond bland. A lovely setting for a restaurant with possibly the worst food I have had in a restaurant in London.

We booked to visit Skylon as a pre-theatre meal. We arrived before 5pm and ordered a drink before being seated at our booking time. Our order was quickly taken and we made it clear to our waiter that we wanted to order from the ‘Theatre Set Menu’. Our server was polite and helpful. Our starters arrived quickly, however it took one hour and half and three requests to the waiter and management before our mains arrived by which point we had to rush eating them and were left with 10 minutes to eat dessert. When we raised the 1.5 hour waiting time at 6pm with the manager her reply was: ‘Jesus!’ Yet no apology was offered and we were still expected to pay a 13% service charge for such an experience. All round very poor management of the kitchen and no acknowledgement of a what turned out to be a very expensive bad experience. On a positive note the food was all of a good standard when we were finally brought it and our server did her best under the circumstances.

On Saturday 2nd March I decided to head to Skylon, a place I hadn't been to in ages, but I know it used to do damn good cocktails. As I'm the "Bartend" for a forthcoming Hen Party, I needed to know how to make some classic cocktails, so I was just hoping I'd meet the right person at Skylon who wouldn't mind showing me what he or she was doing. I met Rahul. He turned out to be an absolute LEGEND. What a top, top, nice guy. Patient. Knowledgeable. Happy. Always coming over to see if I was okay. The guy made my day. I learned so much more than I thought I would. And can this guy make a decent cocktail? Hell yeah. He's incredible. I *still* think the Spicy Margarita was quite spicy though! :) So thank you, Rahul, and the lovely young lady who was also there (Mia? I'm sorry... I've lost the piece of paper with people's names on! Was definitely a short name). Rahul was that good... it's making me come back with some friends real soon so we can enjoy more of his cocktails. Superb day at Skylon. AGAIN.

Bland, badly cooked and presented food. a pity that such a lovely view and nice atmosphere is ruined by completely bland food. We were a family of 4, asked for starters, mains and 1 dessert. I tried everyone's: all the dishes were bland, nothing left a lasting impression and nothing tasted fresh; it all tasted as packaged food. My husband booked it as a surprise so it's really disappointing that any of us can cook much better at home. My husband doesn't check reviews, I do. When I checked now, I'm shocked that this is still happening with so many reviews saying the same. Surely"good food" should be a key requirement for a restaurant. Staff was OK and the view from the table was beautiful; but surely you cannot rely on the stunning river views only... The ravioli were swimming in a tasteless green sauce; the steak was bland and the sauce underwhelming; the César salad was not even cut properly, big chunks of tasteless gem lettuce, everything seemed to have a similar packaged-food taste. Neither recommendeing nor coming back, unfortunately.

Decent restaurant on the third floor of the Royal Festival Hall in the Southbank Centre. It is undoubtedly a stunning setting with great views of the River Thames from the huge windows. It also has a very interesting central bar and huge circular ceiling lights. We found the food a tad underwhelming. For starters we had a beetroot and pear salad and a ham hock dish which were both fine but nothing special. We then both had the crab linguine main course which again was pretty good but we have had better in less fancy settings. We also had a couple of glasses of a very good Mosel riesling. Very friendly and helpful staff. Skylon has one major benefit over most restaurants in the area. It takes food orders until 22:15 which means you can get to eat after most shows at the Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall or the BFI Southbank. Skylon takes its name from the original iconic structure that was built for the 1951 Festival of Britain.

Skylon was wonderful when it opened years ago and I was exceptionally disappointed with my return visit. Service was mixed with one member of staff being lovely but another being inattentive and rude. The food was incredibly over-priced and not of a great quality. £21 for a dish of 3 not very large ( though very well roasted) scallops, nearly £20for a tiny steak tartare- over seasoned and over chopped, and £42 for a 300g steak which wasn’t any better than a decent supermarket steak and was cooked first to grey, then rare, when I’d asked for medium rare. Definitely won’t be coming back again. Sad, as the building, the view and the decor still remain wonderful.

Travelled from the North East of England for a long weekend stay in London. My daughter booked this restaurant for an evening meal as a birthday treat. The food was extremely good but felt the menu was a bit limited and a tad pricey. The service was quite good, thanks to Alex, our waiter. My daughter booked well in advance and asked for a window seat for further enjoyment of the evening, but was shown to a table in the centre of the room. The disappointment came when I observed a couple objecting to the table they were being shown to and asked for a window seat and were immediately re directed to that area. I queried this with the girls on reception and the response was a shrug of the shoulders. So my advice to future diners would be, if you make a reservation with a request, be sure to mention it on arrival, as written requests are ignored. I doubt I will be visiting again.

Dined with five friends at this beautiful venue last Saturday. The ambiance was elevated by beautiful food and a fantastic sax player. However, the welcome received by a blonde lady at the front of house, who was working during lunchtime on the 13th of Jan, was unfortunately really off-putting. She assisted with our coats and scarves but was quite rude in her approach. When I struggled to place my scarf into the sleeve, she abruptly took it from me to do it herself, after rudely instructing me on how to do it. This behavior was not only directed at me but also at another guest at our table. Every other staff member we interacted with was extremely pleasant.

We had a lovely team lunch today with 11 people at this nice restaurant. Grand, beautiful and with an amazing view of South Bank. Soft music and light atmosphere, suitable for conversations. The food is a tad pricey a la carte depending on options (£17-36 for mains), but they have a lovely lunch set menu of £30 for 2 course and £35 for 3 course. I personally had the smoke salmon for starter and cod for main, and they were very well executed. Nicely presented, good sized portions and tasty. I would recommend the pear and beetroot salad though, unexpectedly super refreshing and tasty! Also had a cocktail called This is not a tiramisu and was very delicious! Note the restaurant does not have their own toilet but uses the South Bank Centre ones which is a small walk away. Nappy changing area available in those too. We booked Skylon months before our visit as a treat during a pre-xmas trip to London. On arrival we were ignored for about five to ten minutes. After an eventual brusque checkin we were told our table wasn't ready and we could wait in the bar area where we bought an expensive round of drinks that we didn't really want. After another half hour of being ignored we asked the bar staff about our table and were told to go back to the checkin desk. We were then asked if we had a reservation (by the same person who originally took our reservation details). On saying that we'd been waiting half an hour we were told it was Saturday evening and they were busy. So presumably it was our fault for going out on a Saturday? Food and table service was good but food was expensive for what it was. Waiting staff were good but no one seemed to be managing anything and there seemed to be a lot of arguments going on between staff. To be fair our complaints were listened to at the end of the evening and we were offered a discount but a bit late by then to rescue our experience. We won't be going back.

Great location. Service was not to the standard they should have and I believe what they expect themselves. Waiter dropping glasses, forgetting what was ordered, cocktails take ages, bringing orders to the wrong tables etc. They only have one vegan option as a main. I asked if they could make a vegan starter a bit bigger and have as a main, for me a simple request, our waiter said this was not possible. I than had the starter with some chips, as I don't eat allot anyway it was fine. Food tasted good but could be more refined, for example my chicory wasn't cut properly. As the image of high end brasserie that they are aiming to have these are points that lack, and therefore value for money is not great in my opinion.

Thought I'd booked bottomless brunch to be told by the extremely rude waiter I hadn't. Apparently there was a typo on the menu but he then repeatedly said it was me who misunderstood and essentially the mix up was all my fault. Rather than maybe offer us all a glass of prosecco for example he just went on about how the menu had a mistake and I had read it all wrong. When I refused to pay the 13% added service charge another waitress did admit the timings on the menu were vague and unclear. However, damage now done. Won't ever be returning to Skylon again. I suggest the very rude and abrupt waiter, middle aged, dark hair and glasses is fired before he does any more damage to your reputation. Oh, and fix your menus and website which both give a completely unrepresentative view of what's on offer.

Waitress barely speaking until tables, including us asked for the service charge being removed then she talked and got very argumentative. Uncomfortable environment. Cutlery arrived about 5 minutes after food. So many plates sent back from surrounding tables as completely cold - food came back slopped on plate with no presentation. Food ok - very slow service. Drinks service - they never arrived after first requesting and at second attempt they arrived after we had finished starters. No table in window despite requesting for 20th anniversary when booked many months ago. We went for sentimental reasons - don’t bother otherwise, far better places within minutes.

A few of us were out for the evening and fancied a cocktail in a beautiful location. Without a reservation the hostess was able to squeeze the four of us in at the bar. The Christmas trees were perhaps too big for the bar as one was poking me in the back. Service was prompt although the bartenders weren't particularly warm and friendly. Our cocktails were well made and beautiful but at £15ea weren't any different than you would get for £10-12 elsewhere. The reason to go to Skylon is to take in the beautiful space, the modernist architecture and the great view over the Thames. Unfortunately, detracting from the special environment was the fact that a quarter of the ceiling lights were out and the chandeliers desperately needed dusting. The metal support cables were coated in a fat layer dust. I know these are not 5 minute jobs in that space but it didn't look like the jobs had been done in the last year, probably much longer. In summary - go for one drink and take in the scenery then go find somewhere else that is better value.

…. did I just splash on? Every year, my friends and I try out different restaurants that we deem worthy of a visit for a friend’s birthday. And every year without fail was a memorable gathering, with the restaurant being the highlight of the trip. We went to celebrate the special day there this year for dinner. To keep this (fairly) short, I have no idea what I paid for; the food was mediocre (actually quite bare, a small portion of lamb chop came with a few peas and new potatoes that I had to order separately as a side), atmosphere was dark and depressing, cannot see the outside views as advertised, the restaurant didn’t have any toilets (we had to use the one that belonged to the building), there was a small table next to ours that they used to collect empty wine bottles and place dirty plates, and worst of all was the service. We had a terrible experience with the staff and the treatment that was given, which was fairly absent throughout (we did get greeted very pleasantly by the door staff who seated us). When asked for some paper towels, they went to ‘check’ and came back to tell me they didn’t have any (sorry, what?). When pouring out wine (we shared a bottle between us), the waiter didn’t have enough when he reached my glass. Instead of asking if I wanted a refill (aka apologise and then ask if I wanted to buy a single glass), they left & did not come back until we asked for the bill. And at the very end as we were leaving, we were told that they were £4 short on the bill which we had split. With the overpriced below average food and drinks, as well as the 13% service fee (what service?? Where??), with a £1 donation ALREADY added to our bill (even though they say it’s voluntary), on top of being told we can’t add up properly (which we had calculated correctly by the way), that was the cherry on top of the cake for us. We will never be returning to this restaurant. Terrible and extremely disappointing. Don’t waste your time.

Some colleagues and I were treated to a 10 year service lunch here this week. The food was absolutely delicious, the waiting service was first class and the ambience was fantastic. And the view overlooking the Thames was superb. And the wine was good too!! Our company PA made the right decision in choosing this restaurant. First class all the way. Thank you so much for a great afternoon.

Avoid this place. Service was haphazard and shambolic. Oysters were full of grit and ice. Beef fillet was tasteless as was the venison, vegetables arrived after the main courses, prices were absurd for this poor quality of food and haphazard service

Standards have dropped. Significantly. Bar staff slow before dinner. Waiting staff slower. No urgency to get customers served quickly. Waited an hour for our main course - and it was tepid when it arrived. But food tasted very good. All very amateurish - not the calibre of staff that they used to have. Such a shame.

The location is wonderful - the food was average but the service was extremely poor including a surly “welcome” when we arrived, waiting over 10 minutes at our table before anyone came to ask if we’d like a drink, long wait for drinks to arrive CV etc. it felt like the staff were too stretched though the restaurant was only about 60% full. Came away feeling extremely disappointed and underwhelmed. Will not be going back.

Good food and serving size for the price. Prompt service and while food was a little saltier than expected, it was ok. The Hamhock was good size but was the saltiest. The trout was good choice. Dessert was alright. Overall 4stars for the service! Mushroom soup good Chicken was also good Ravioli can be a bit more consistent in terms of presentation ( we got two bowls of different amount and presentation)

Reserved bottomless brunch having been here a couple of times and previously had perfect food and service. Booked for birthday celebration with guests from Australia. No communication when booking - requested window seating as had specifically booked for views. Arrived extra early prior to opening and first in the queue to be told that window seats are only for guests of 4 and could not accommodate 6 (email reply would've been helpful). Food quality was not great, poached eggs hard and incorrect main received which meant everyone waiting for this to be prepared after food had been served. Despite twice reminding staff if they could acknowledge the birthday celebration and being told dessert would arrive with candle etc this did not materialise. We were then rushed off our table after 2 hours despite the conditions for booking stating 2.5 hours for groups larger than 5. Overall disappointing for a celebration planned months ahead.

What has gone wrong with Skylon? Early Saturday evening, bustling but far from full. Managed to get a table at the bar for drinks. Finally ordered after around 10 minutes, (3x G&T - £45 plus service). Waited a further 20 minutes but drinks hadn’t arrived so walked out. All the servers seemed stressed and the service bar had around a dozen drinks sat waiting at any point in time. Such a shame to see a lovely bar completely ruined by appalling service.

We visited Skylon recently for a Virgin Experience of gin tasting and lunch. Booking was easy via email with flexibility on dates and times. We had the option of lunch or tasting first and decided as gin was an aperitif we should start with that. We didn't know what to expect but we were shown to a table in the raised area of the bar with a lovely view out over the river and a trolley with different gins, tonics and garnishes arrived along side us. A very engaging young man, we didn't catch his name, told us the history of gin and talked us through the three very different gins. All three were delicious with generous measures and we were given adequate time to enjoy each one and ask questions before tasting the next. It was a very enjoyable experience. When we were ready we were shown to a window table and enjoyed an excellent lunch from the set menu. The main course of trout and the passionfruit posset dessert were particularly delicious. The wine was reasonably priced for a restaurant of this standard. As other reviewers have complained, there is service charge added although it is a prepaid experience, but it did not seem unreasonable for the friendly, helpful service we received. We would happily dine here again

Went with my husband for our wedding anniversary. It is a lovely space has original Festival Hall features with great river views. Comfortable spacious. Nice relaxed service. Interesting menu with tasty food well presented. Reasonably priced considering the quality. I found the main course substantial enough without ordering a side dish. The drinks are pricy but we thought that the house was very good. would go back again on special occasions.

It’s was great, we had a really knowledgeable server named Luca, his wine knowledge was excellent and the portions were very generous, we had an amazing selection of cheeses and they even surprised my partner with a desert cake for her belated birthday, top class. A big thank you to Luca he made the evening!

After a poor experience earlier in the year the team at Skylon were quick to reach out to apologise and explain and fair play to them for doing so. We visited again Friday 20/10 and had a wonderful time. Service was excellent and the food was great. It is back on our favourites list and we will be back when we next visit the South Bank, which I hope will be soon.

We chose The Skylon Restaurant for a pre-arranged family lunch last weekend in a group of 14 to celebrate an anniversary. It was a great success. We were very well looked after by the duty manager and his staff, and the food and wine were most enjoyable. I particularly enjoyed the Cote du Rhone wine. It was a beautiful day so that we could enjoy the views out across the River Thames through the huge picture windows. Groups of this size need to decide on their menu choices etc in advance and this was organised with great efficiency by the staff member concerned. We have been regular diners at The Skylon over the years. We live in the Home Counties and it's our favourite London dining venue.

Fantastic restaurant in the front of the Royal Festival Hall with great views across the river. Went for a family birthday on Sunday Lunchtime. A good set price menu with some nice egg starters which work well for a brunch. Worked well with a steak main 😁 There is a bottomless Prosecco or Bordeaux option that is good value if you want to drink more than the odd glass - otherwise the options are fairly expensive . We had superb service and well worth the money 👍

Didn’t go to the restaurant but we had drink at the bar. They have quite a good and wide selection of wine and drink list. I ordered a glass of white wine and it was nice. The company policy was kinda dumb and stubborn tho. At first, the waitress told us we could sit by the window. But when we sat down at the table, another staff came up go us and told us it was the “restaurant area” so we could not sit there. I think it’s okay if the place was busy and the table’s booked or sth. But we were there quite late and the restaurant and bar were both rather empty, so it’s not flexible and smart for them to ask us change the table.

Very disappointed with this place. Pre-Covid it was an excellent restaurant. It’s been reduced to somewhere which serves very over priced pub level food with unapologetically poor service, which given the quantity of staff I don’t understand. I came here with family to celebrate an occasion and felt thoroughly let down - after much waiting in a very empty restaurant we had to ask for our drinks order again after our main course had arrived - none of the serving staff seemed to notice or care. A ‘celebration plate’ was dumped on our table as an afterthought when we asked for the bill, again after plenty of waiting around - how embarrassing. The only positive is the decor and nice view. AVOID… for now. Hope that they can get back to form soon as it’s a great venue.
