Sitar Indian Restaurant in Dumfries & Galloway

Only Indian restaurant in Annan apart from a take away. So we had onion bhaji and vegetable pakora which were ok, wee bit greasy. The main courses were tikka masala chilli curry which was hot and tasty watch out for the whole chillies and the sitar chicken which was sweet and creamy a nice dish. Two peshwari nans complete the meal which were big, fluffy and tasty. Restaurant is in need of a refurbishment but can’t fault the food.

The front of the restaurant could do with a makeover but don’t judge the book by the cover, We had read a negative review so entered with a little trepidation, however inside is clean spacious and inviting. We were served quickly by our waiter who may have been the owner, knowledgable of the menu I chose and Arabic curry which did not disappoint, my son has chicken tikka masala which was also excellent, fluffy rice and a chapati complemented the dishes perfectly. One reviewer complained about portion size, our portions were generous nd we struggled to finish the dishes.

Got a takeaway from here yesterday. Ordered vegetable pakora as one of our things. Got home and opened the container to discover it was three badly burnt onion bhajis instead. Terrible. The chicken tikka masala was passable; the chicken madras I ordered wasn't madras but something milder. I'll be shocked and gutted if I eat a worse Indian meal this year.

Outstanding food! Annan, you're blessed with an Indian restaurant and take away that knows how to do Indian food with impact. Ordered a take away from here for 7 people whilst staying in the area. £85 in total and each and every one of us was very impressed with the fare. We enjoyed richly flavoured and well spiced dishes (Lamb Madras, Tandoori Chicken, Saag Paneer, Lamb Tikka Massala, Chicken Malayan etc etc) that were up there with the very best. Wholeheartedly recommended!!!

The food was good, prices fair as things go, speed of service reasonable, the waiter friendly. The prawn puree was really delicious, with huge, juicy prawns. It does feel a bit down at heel - think old menus with the prices tippexed out. Waiter told us it's under new management and is about to be refurbished; I guess we'll see. One thing they do need to sort out is the naan breads, which did not come out with the meals - a bit like serving fish without your chips! We were told that, for some bizarre reason, they can only cook one at a time. They were good when they came though, and huge. Rice portions, on the other hand, were very small.

What a hidden gem. Lived close by for 6 years and this was our first visit. Excellent food, first class service. We will definitely be back.

I highly recommend this place to eat in annan me and my son went for a mothers day meal and the food was amazing staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcoming. Excellent food, fab service well done guys 😁

First visit so don’t want to be too harsh but it wasn’t great. Positive was the inside of the restaurant is nice despite the dismal outside. The waiter was lovely. My starter a mushroom poori was ok but big chunks of garlic. I had chicken far sizzler which was ok except green peppers were huge and therefore not really cooked, nan was nice , rice clumpy which is a basic. Hubby is vegetarian and got the mixed starter which was the more expensive one but it was bland and only had 3 pieces. His vegetable bhoona was mostly potatoes so disappointing. It was cheap only £34 in total but couldn’t recommend unless it improved

Had the most amazing meal here tonight, the tikka masala was the best I have ever had. The service was quick and jay the waiter was attentive with nothing being to much trouble for him. It’s defo worth a visit 👍🏻

We go to the Sitar 2 or 3 times a month, and have never had a bad meal, Jay the new waiter is so friendly and polite. We decided to go today and yet again we were delighted with the food, Jay has made such a difference in the restaurant.

Everytime we visit Annan (from Southport), we ALWAYS go to Sitar. The food is excellent and the service is very attentive. Try the spinach dish, you’ll be surprised, it’s very tasty.

We visit the sitar restaurant regularly and it never fails to please. On some occasions service could be a little slow but always charming but with the new waiter/chef the last 2 visits this has been resolved. The food tonight 6/1/23 was 1st class chicken, lamb and prawn all beautifully cooked and piping hot. Nothing at all to complain about.

Visited for the 1st time not the last, when walked in greeted with a handsome waiter who was very friendly and made me feel welcome at his restourant. Food was fantastic can tell its fresh. 1st class service. Nice atmosphere Defo will be back again very soon

Haven’t been to this restaurant for a good 10 years, went back the other night with my partner and was absolutely disgusted at what we were served. I had chicken pakora to start it was bland and my other half got chicken tandoori which was completely raw in the middle and could have made him seriously ill. Lucky we noticed before he ate it. Had a Takeaway tonight Tikka Chicken Rogan Josh ....Tandoori mixed grill ....i have had many a meal at the Sitar and they can be hitty missy but when the Owners cooking they are usually top dollar, tonight's meal however was missing one very important ingredient and that was meat, really disappointed as you just feel they don't care for there customers so unfortunately i won't be returning.

A late evening visit after the football so just chose a main course. Great pick as the Punjabi chicken dish was full of flavour and decent chicken. Not bad at all.

Ordered a takeaway for 7 - all different dishes with accompaniments. Every one was beautifully spiced and flavoured and the breads and rices cooked perfectly. Called to collect and the service was charming and friendly. We had a lovely family get together with great food! Thanks guys

Recently visited Sitar and had a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The chosen chicken dishes with rices and naans were well presented, tasty and as described on the menu. The wine was delicious and reasonably priced. The staff were polite and professional and would recommend you give Sitar as try.

We went here for a takeaway and ordered a limited amount of food as certain things where not available (it was 7pm Ona sat) we where told it would be 25 mins taking advantage of this we had a walk round to the shop etc and went to the chipper to order other family members tea we went back at 7.30 and was not ready we waited and the order was finally put in our hand after eight o clock it was such a disappointment the rice was cold the tandoori mixed grill was swimming in grease and water??? And a chicken dupiaza was just all grease and only supplied with three pieces of chicken!! This was by far the worst Indian takeaway I’ve ever had I would not recommend this place ever

Came to the Sitar Indian restaurant last night as me and my friend were heading to the cinema so decided on tea first.

We had a take away which was excellent. In Germany the Indian restaurants serve rice with the meal. That is different in Britain. Ask for the rice which is separate on the menu.

Recommended by an Annan resident but unfortunately this restaurant fell short

Generally good food, sometimes a bit of a wait for a takeaway. Pleasant atmosphere in the restaurant always enjoy the visits.

My brother took me to the Sitar for a meal saying even though it was a drive to get there it would be worth it.

When we entered the restaurant appeared to be quite dimly lit, but it was not a problem and indeed after getting adjusted to it, it was quite pleasant. It had an interesting menu with a number of dishes I hadn't had before. All were delicious. Service was good. No hesitation in recommending it if you like Indian food and are in Annan.

The meal was ok, but the Cobra and Kingfisher tasted the same and tasted weak ! Wouldn’t go back again

The Sitar, does very good, if slightly sweet Indian food. Their main courses are much better than their starters, which I always find lacking a bit. Their South Indian chilli chicken is excellent

2 pieces of pakora for Starer and then charged £7 for 2 flat cola d rinks total rip off pakora was a rip off and the cola said £1.95 on menu and charged £3.50 each when questioned staff just smiled and said nothing so I got really frustrated just felt like it was a total rip off glad it was a one off visit

My two friends and I visited Sitar restaurant last week. The choice of food was second to none, well impressed! Service was quick, friendly and efficient. The food itself was well presented and delicious. Very reasonably priced too..i would recommend.

We ended up here by accident after our booking at Cibo Citta fell through last minute. Every restaurant in Annan seems to shut at 8:30pm and Sitar stayed open for us and another party. The food was excellent! I have had some truly horrific Indian food in Scotland, but Sitar produced really tasty, well cooked meals for our whole party. A wonderful surprise. Not many frills and no gin, but great food!

Put in a phone order at 6pm, told to pick it up at 7pm. got there at 7 but then had to wait in shop till 7:50pm when I finally got it handed to me. To top it all of when I got it home, (5 minutes away) it was all Luke warm and the veg curry i got as a side dish consisted of one whole potato cut in half. Never again.

Este es el mejor con la India en la zona. El personal es amable, la comida es Bob - sobre el costo de su comida es buena relación calidad-precio. La única habitación para mejorar es el vino que pedí fue un Merlot de color rojo. Pero la única red que tenían era una red muy pobre calidad. Esto tiene que cambiar. Yo te mantendrá actualizado si hay una mejora con respecto el único vino. Como dijo la comida es la mejor.

I ate here as a member of a large family group of mixed ages. The owners were not in the least bit fazed by the number and were unfailingly polite and unobtrusive. The decor was lovely and the food was the best we had all tasted in a long time. I would love to have a restaurant as good as this near me. There was a steady stream of people getting takeaways too - so if the locals use it, it must be good.

I took my friend who's birthday it was on a Wednesday night, there were about 6 tables taken so we had plenty of space, starters were good (nan bread and dips) when our main course arrived the plates were very hot, hotter that the food we ordered, the chicken I ordered, was tough and tasteless and may have been reheated, my friends Lamb was even tougher if that was possible.We need better choice of restaurants in Annan and this restaurant has some good reviews, but not on that night.

Nice restaurant with decent food and friendly staff. We visited on a Sunday, and the staff seemed a bit rushed- it was surprisingly busy- but the food arrived in OK time and was good too, prices reasonable.

Best Indian restaurant I've found for years. Really friendly staff & food is perfect. Restaurant itself is a little dated but always clean & very welcoming. Only issue is there's no music for any atmosphere when sitting in - which sometimes puts us off !s you can hear everybody elses conversation. The take aways are just as good & highly recommended.

Staff (seem to be one family) very friendly though not always coordinated. They were very busy, as this is a takeaway as well as a restaurant, so service was not terribly quick (didn't matter as we had all evening). Some interesting slightly different options on the menu. The set meal for two is a very good offer as there are no limitations in choice, and you get the elements you would have chosen for several pounds less than the individual totals. Good portion size (we couldn't quite eat up!) Accurate descriptions re heat of the dish (at least for the ones we chose). Decor is modern Indian with engraved glass panel between the two parts of the restaurant, and flashing lights etc.

Family meal treat and not disappointed. Not been here for a while as a little disappointed last visit but there's a new chef and the taste is back. All 6 adults were impressed by taste and standard of food leaving only clean plates and a tip..... just such a pity it is so quiet.... come on annan ... get out and support your local businesses. You're the first to complain there's nothing in this town .... Yes there is!!!! Oh and the lovely staff are well worth a mention.

Sitar is a decent restaurant. The food is fairly old school but decent enough. Popadoms were cold which was odd. I'd go again but don't expect a great Indian meal, more an old school one.

Group of 4 visited on a Wednesday night so not too busy. The dining area was very pleasant, well laid out, spotless table cloths etc, comfortable seating.Extensive menu - all the usual dishes - and a choice of beers. Nice to be offered free water for the driver!Service was friendly & good - food was very good with loads of meat or chicken in each of the dishes. Prices very reasonable.Give it a try!

Had a take away from the Sitar when staying on a self catering break in Annan. Some mixed reviews on here but we have to say that the food we had was really good. Of special note were the Lamb Rogan Josh and the King Prawn Bhuna. Both really good and be warned, the portions are huge. So much so we had left overs for Saturday lunch. Highly recommended.

The food was of a good standard and really tasty, however, the service left something to be desired. Firstly, the service was slow and despite the restaurant being full only 2 staff were serving. Secondly, our order could not be fulfilled as requested but we were only told just before the meal was due to be served leaving no opportunity to rethink the order. When we went to the counter to get our bill (the server had not brought it to us despite 2 requests) the bill was incorrect and needed changing twice as we were overcharged, then we were told that the card machine was not working. Luckily we managed to scrape together enough cash to settle the bill. Good food spoilt by poor service.

Had a king prawn puri to start, Good flavour but only 3 prawns which were a bit chewy. Chicken tikka korma was very tasty, good sized pieces of chicken and the sauce had a nice peanutty base. Good vegetable pilau and a well cooked keema naan. I'd happily eat there again

Been to this restaurant many times.I think it is the best around and I travel from Dumfries to eat here when I have the time.It's just been done up so looks the business but it is the food that rates it.Buffet on Wed and Sun is fantastic value and tons of food.The Chicken Chat is to drive 20 miles for! Go to this restaurant - you won't be dissapointed

My wife was feeling unwell, so I thought I would treat myself to an Indian meal for one. It had to be The Sitar because there is not much choice in Annan. Inspection of the menu outside was encouraging, with a wide selection of dishes and descriptions of each one. Unfortunately the menu I was presented with inside seemed to have a different selection of dishes, and no descriptions of them. I had to choose a bit blind; all Indian restaurants seem to have different names for their dishes, other than the standard jalfreezi, korma, bhuna, etc. The waiter tried to be helpful with making my choice, but the meal I got was not quite what I expected, being a bit too creamy and not very spicy. On the other hand it was perfectly edible and enjoyable, just a little bit boring. Service was excellent, although one of the waitresses let slip that the lime pickle, which I commented on as being particularly good, was out of a jar from Tesco. So there you are, I can certainly recommend Tesco's lime pickle. This restaurant, on the other hand, needs to pull its socks up a bit. I hope it does, or Annan will be without an Indian restaurant.
