Simply Scottish in Scottish Borders

Quiet traditional wee cafe, few old ladies having lunch. Lentil soup good & wholesome but cullen skink was, for me, far too creamy which made it quite heavy. Would have preferred the option of crunchy bread rather than a slice of soft pan loaf but at least bread was brown. £10 for two plates of soup, no drinks.

We visited here at lunchtime and managed to get a table outside. The waitress was friendly the sun was out and we all enjoyed our sandwiches. Unusual combination of vegetarian haggis and chutney - which was delicious

A wonderful place to stop for lunch. Very pleasant waitresses, varied menu, tasty food. We had soup and sandwiches,...delicious roast tomato soup, and the nicest smoked salmon sandwiches you could wish for. We shall certainly return!

Several hours after a cooked breakfast we stopped here for a cup of tea and light refreshment. We both had the smoked salmon sandwich - wow. It was freshly made, huge and accompanied by crisps and salad. Very tasty. Didn't have much for rest of the day. Excellent value too.

Booked in advance as popping up from Newcastle for the day. We had tea and freshly made sandwiches, bacon in the BLT hot and lovely home made chunky chips. They happily wrapped up the uneaten sandwiches. Everywhere spotless with screens between tables with disposable paper menus. Big clean disabled / elderly friendly toilets.Staff friendly and didn’t hassle or hurry us.Leave room for the cakes. Huge slices looking delicious in the chilled cabinet. A definite next time.A lovely place for lunch which we would throughly recommend.

We were out for the day and popped into Simply Scottish. All the tables were socially distanced and everything was sanitised. The meal of Burger and chips was to die for, homemade burgers and the chips were really good. The sweets looked lovely but we were that full that we couldn't be tempted. However, we got some Red Velvet cake to takeaway. The staff were really friendly and very helpful. Cannot praise this place enough.

We enjoyed a light lunch while being socially distanced. Staff were cheerful and helpful and, most important, the food was delicious. Simply Scottish is simply excellent!

Stop in Jedburgh and came across Simply Scottish. Lunch was excellent, best chips I’ve had in ages as part of ham egg and chips, it was great. Very good price. My husband had veggie haggis also very good. We really enjoyed our visit. Felt covid safe.

Soup and sandwiches freshly prepared and good size portions. We opted for scones with butter and jam - again they tasted like they were baked that day. Hot choc and latte were nice also. Service was good considering they were serving a full cafe. Not a huge area of seating but if you visit at the start of lunchtime you’ll get a nice spot.

I’m addicted to their Cullen Skink, absolutely delicious. Good food and good prices. Something on the menu for everyone and I highly recommend the Cullen Skink. Lovely staff, nice environment, I’ll be back!

Visited the area on a Monday and most things were closed. We were hoping for a pub and a hot totty since my husband was sick. Came across this cafe and they offered spirits in their drink selection which was great. The server made us a hot totty even though she had never heard of it. She was very friendly and our soups and sandwiches were delicious!

Visited by chance - but will return. Friendly staff, great scones and a truly superb fish stew! Was tempted by the haggis etc but so pleased that I opted for the fish stew.

Stopped in for coffee scone/cake which were excellent. Staff very nice and welcoming. Open on a Sundayas well😊. Well worth a visit.

We stopped here for lunch today and it was lovely! The soup was delicious and the carrot cake was just perfect. My husband loved the cullen skink and the kids chicken and chips went down well too! We will be back. Thank you

We called here for lunch yesterday. 5 Adults and two 8 year olds. We all had different meals but all - including the children - agreed that the food was delicious and ample. As the name implies, it serves traditional scottish fare and the menu choice is excellent. Our servers were excellent, friendly and efficient and very patient and we received our food, freshly cooked with minimal delay. Lovely food at very reasonable prices make this restaurant a must to visit in the future. Little wonder it already has the Tripadvisor certificate of excellence.

Excellent all round. Kids loved the chicken burger and sausage bap ring. Cullen Skink was excellent as was the veggie haggis. So good we then stayed for cake and coffee which was also awesome.

Few places seemed to be open on the day we dropped in. Stopped in around 13:00 but it was full to brimming so came back after visiting the Mary Queen of Scots Museum.We got in and we pleased with the lunch we had - nothing too wild but tasty enough and good value.

Stopped in for a bite of lunch. The Soup of the Day (Sweet potato, butternut squash & chilli) was delicious. Mum had a Cheese & Chutney sandwich which comes served on whole meal bread with a good serving of green salad & coleslaw. Great food and great value for money.

Very nice lunch here, home made soup was delicious and grilled sandwiches full to brimming. Friendly and efficient staff. Very little open in Jedburgh on a Sunday so we were delighted to find this cafe.

Because I have gallbladder problems and pancreatitis I have to avoid saturated fat and almost all fat - I asked about items on their menu and the chef came out of the kitchen and we worked out what I could and couldn't eat. Very Helpful and everything that my partner and I ate was really good and good value as well. Vegan and vegetarian options on the menu too! Please try them if you are in Jedburgh!

We visited Simply Scottish whilst staying in Jedburgh. Our order was simple; 2 sausage baps with beans inside. We received to sausage baps with a tiny dish of bean on just one plate. The staff were rude and miserable to all except the locals. Not a good way to do business in a tourist area. Will not be recommending or returning.

Popped into Simply Scottish for a coffee after visiting the Mary Queen of Scots House nearby. We ended up ordering lunch as we were impressed by the menu. I ordered the vegan haggis, neeps and tatties that came with onion chutney and parsnip crisps... phenomenal! Beautifully presented and tasted amazing. There was also a good selection of vegan cakes to tuck into after lunch but we were too full. My partner ordered the Gammon, egg and chips and enjoyed an Amber ale as he doesn't have to drive home. He has Type 1 Diabetes and the staff were happy to help him out by weighing the chips so he could calculate what insulin to take. Great overall service and atmosphere. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend or return.

Had a couple of lovely breakfasts in this cafe. Staff are friendly and menu varied with traditional to vegan breakfast options. Cost is good value for money. Would certainly recommend for breakfast.

Popped in for a coffee and cake . No warm welcome despite only being 2 other customers in. Older assistant clearly wasn't in the mood for customer service as she banged around with a face like fizz. When she got round to taking our order, she managed it without so much as a word or a smile. My wife went up to pay and as she took her card out, the woman reached over with the card machine and tapped it on the card again without a word or even confirming my wife wished to pay contactless. She could learn much from the younger staff if they wish to have returning business. I would point out we have been a number of times before and always had good service. Maybe she was having a bad day but you don't bring bad days to work with you

Stopped here for a quick lunch: a bowl of home made soup and a sandwich. Portions were large and the food was fresh. Jedburgh Abbey is in walking distance from here.

a welcoming comfortable cafe...good selection of food for a snack / a light lunch or afternoon tea including several gluten free / vegan options...waitress was very helpful in finding me a dairy-free meal...freshly prepared food.. well presented.... and delicious!

We dropped in here for a light lunch the other day, and are SO glad we did! Probably the best soup-and-sandwich combination we have ever had. Butternut squash, ginger and chilli soup, with a salmon salad sandwich on granary bread. The soup - perfectly smooth, wonderful texture, and could taste all the ingredients. And the freshest sandwich ever! Staff very attentive; price very reasonable.

Great breakfast, good price , and friendly staff. Menu for lunch looked very good also. If ever back in Jedburgh, will eat there again

Visited with my 8 year old daughter and my wife for lunch. A great choice on the menu, lovely coffee and good food. They were busy for a Monday and this seems a popular place to eat as it has low prices and great food.

Previously raved about the Veggie Haggis served here but with an assumed change of supplier & product, things have taken a turn for the worse. Served up Haggis “wedges” which were bland and you couldn’t taste the Haggis due to over powering taste of the seeded coating on the wedges.

Leaving review on behalf of my mother who visited today with a friend unsure of what vegan options the cafe would offer. She said she was greeted by a very polite young waitress who “knew the menu inside out”, especially the vegan options, and recommended my mother the falafel wrap. She has raved about it all afternoon as she often worries about places meeting her dietary requirements. Well done Simply Scottish! She’ll be back

Very pleasant staff and service was quick. Soup and a sandwich was excellent value. My friend had cullen skink and a sandwich for £8.70. He stated that the soup was as good as he ever had ( and cullen skink is his all-time favourite ) I had lentil soup and a toasted sandwich - both were excellent. We shall return

We went into Jedburgh not realising it was the riding festival so the town was rather busy and we were struggling to find somewhere for lunch. Stumbled across this little gem and were very warmly greeted by the staff who couldn’t have done more for us! We sat outside and the waitress immediately offered water for our dogs which was a bonus. The food was lovely and all through our visit the staff were very attentive and we never felt rushed even though there were people waiting for tables. Would highly recommend and will go again next time we visit Jedburgh.

Visited Sunday lunchtime just gone en route from Yorkshire to Edinburgh to buy a car.What a start to the day smashing place and v helpful courteous staff with quick service. 4 adults sat outside in the sun. 2 great full Scottish breakfasts with additional items, salmon/egg benedict and bacon sarny.

Stopped in for lunch with our two kids (locusts), they had nachos to start, macaroni mains with Veggie haggis on the side. Both struggled to finish everything and the Haggis was the best Veggie Haggis I’ve tasted in a very long time.

Having spent the morning in the Gaol and museum we were looking for somewhere to have a light bite for lunch before heading to the Mary Queen of Scots House.

Had a couple of hours to kill in Jedburgh so treated ourselves to a a couple of Full Scottish Breakfasts. They came perfectly cooked, not greasy and plenty of additions like beans, haggis etc were offered.

Sometimes when you arrive at a cafe for the first time, there's this embarrassing hesitation... How do we order? Do we sit down first? Not so at Simply Scottish. Everyone who enters is immediately greeted by the nearest member of the small staff team "take a seat and we'll come and take your order"

Stopped for a light lunch, had a generous portion of delicious homemade soup served piping hot. Perfect after a country walk.

Situated on the High Street, just down from the Abbey, this is a very nice place to stop in for a coffee and a quick meal. Service is rapid, and caring. On our first visit we had a dog, which was provided water and a couple of treats at one of the 3 or 4 outside tables. The food is uncomplicated, but covers a few local "specials", most featuring haggis in some form. Coffee is the only let down; it isn't great.

We wanted somewhere for a simple lunch and this place surpassed expectations. I had a Cullen skink which was spectacular and my wife’s sandwich was excellent. Nothing was less than superb

Nice cafe in the centre of town. We had teacakes which were large and tasty. Menu had an interesting range of foods.

We were recommended here by one of the shops in town and we were not let down. Good food and friendly waitresses served in a really nice atmosphere. Thoroughly recommend the steak pie.

I have visited Simply Scottish numerous times by myself and with friends and yet the customer service has never been top notch however staff still pleasant enough, having previously worked in hospitality myself I know the pressures of busy times however after being in simply looking for a takeaway coffee today I feel it is the last straw after previously been spoke to in a rude mannerism and giving it the benefit of the doubt. I was told there was “loads of orders and to take a seat” to which my response was ‘don’t worry I’m only looking for a takeaway coffee” to which the front of house member of staff responded with “ well I have loads of orders take a seat...” I left pretty much immediately after tell her that “I’ll just leave it thanks” i don’t appreciate being spoken to like that and not to mention has please and thank you ever been highlighted in this lady’s vocabulary? I think a crash course in customer service should be revisited...

In a town where every second building is a cafe. We found ourselves in here. Maybe it was the name? Maybe it was the menu? Maybe it was the fact we were both hungover and could walk any further?

Family visit let down by rude staff member. On arrival was not allowed to sit where we wanted, instead was shown a table by the door which was propped open. Hense I sat in a coat the entire visit-very unpleasant! Said waitress brought our buns with no mention of when our drinks would arrive- 10 minutes later! Not worth paying for overpriced offers when the atmosphere is awkward!

Would really recommend this little place.....The sandwich wraps were lovely and served with a tasty side salad with home made dressing. Very generous portions and good prices....couldn’t have asked for more.

We had soup combo. The sweet potato and coconut soup was lovely, along with the blt sandwich combo. The coffee wass also good! It was clean and the staff were ok. It was busy, which was no surprise, as The food seemed good.

Good selection of options for vegans here including home made falafels. Generous portions, tasty food, good value for money and friendly staff - would recommend!

After visiting Jedburgh we had really good meal here. The waitress that looked after us was really helpful. The burgers we had were really tasty and generous portions with lovely chips and coleslaw. The cakes looked really good too but sadly we were too full up!

I visited here for a light lunch with family. Simply Scottish is a lovely busy restaurant. There was plenty choice on the menu from sandwiches too more substantial meals I opted for the Blt sandwich which was lovely and very filling one of my family had the steak pie which looked fab and the really enjoyed it. My only complaint was the fruit scone I had it was so dry when I picked it up too cut it the bottom fell of it and I also struggled to put my jam jam on as it just crumbled to bits making it very difficult too eat but this wouldn’t stop me returning or recommending it to friends.

We had a brilliant time at Simply Scottish or my friend Michael's 80th birthday lunch. I've eaten here before and I've never been disappointed. The staff were wonderful, dealing with a rowdy crowd of guests of a certain age! The food served is varied and wholesome but their crowning glory are the variety of cakes made available. I would recommend this well appointed eatery to anyone.

Called in on our way to Melrose. Had coffee, very good, and sandwiches . Sandwiches were big , served with crisps and coleslaw. Very tasty and good value . Nice staff . Liked it a lot.

This little cafe was an excellent choice for lunch. The staff were friendly and prompt with our order. The food was tasty and wholesome, and the tray bakes were something else. I would recommend stopping in for a bite if you're in the vacinity.

Late lunch, so not as busy as it has been when we have been earlier. However, we waited a while to be served. Once served, things ran much more smoothly. We chose Cullen Skink, which comes with either bread or oatcakes. The bread was chunky and fresh. The soup was extremely tasty. They were happy to provide iced tap water to accompany. Finished with coffees.

I had a chicken wrap and a toffee cake here, and they were absolutely fantastic, the wrap was huge and both were very tasty. The staff were very friendly. I would recommend this place.

Visited this establishment several times during our holiday in Jedburgh. Each time the food was very good and plenty of it. Good service at all times. Well worth a visit or two if in Jedburgh.

I would be lying if I said the food was bad. It wasnt bad, but very overpriced and average.

We were in Selkirk, looking for a few bits and pieces. It was lunchtime and we’d heard good things about this restaurant.we certainly weren’t disappointed, it exceeded our expectations.

Had lunch here with my best friend and daughter (2yrs old). The food was fantastic and portion size huge (which was excellent as we were very hungry). As we’re here for a week with family we may be back!

The day we were in Jedburgh, the eatery suggested by the lady at the chocolate shop was closed, so we popped into Simply Scottish instead. What a wise choice! The sandwiches were absolutely enormous, very tasty and beautifully presented. We would most certainly visit again if we were ever in the area.

Soup of the day was really tasty. We had a great lunch here including chicken wrap and slow cooked steak and Ale pie.

We dropped in after lunch and the place was still pretty full, and continued to be so all the time we were there. A pretty good sign.

Arriving at a small cafe in a group of 7 including 3 children, one that needs a high chair, can often feel awkward, especially if the tables are small. However, here they've clearly done this before. Within seconds two tables were pulled together in a way that didn't block anyone else and we were sitting ordering our food. The food was all delicious and very well priced. We were too full for cake, but they were happy to box some up for us to take away which we had later on - it was also very good.

This cafe does not allow dogs inside so we ended up having our coffee on the pavement tables outside.

Stopped for lunch at it was recommended by the owners of the cottage we were staying at. So glad we did. The food was freshly cooked with good fresh ingredients, drinks were ice cold in the searing heat and the cakes were to die for. The waitresses could have been more proactive but that didn't stop me giving this gem 5 stars and I left a tip. Thanks and well done.

We had an unplanned stop here and had the most delicious food. The Cullen skink was amazing. It was very busy but we didn’t need to wait long for our food / our new favourite stop off point!

The staff and the service is excellent here, friendly,caring and knowledgeable. But the food selection lets the place down a little. To much pork products and very choices if you don’t eat pork. The coleslaw would be better if it didn’t have raisins in it, even when you have suggested this over the last 3yrs they still continue to put them in. Brilliant size portions but could do with someone who knows how to cook. Coffees and cakes are excellent and have enjoyed many over the years but the main food could do with some work for the prices they charge.

We were hungry after a visit to the abbey and all the cafes seemed to serve the same filled rolls so we went here for something slightly different. We were served quickly and the food came out fast though my Mum said her soup hadn’t been cooked long enough and there were lipstick marks on my glass. My Haggis, Neeps and Tatties was tasty though a bit short on the neeps. It was okay but I don’t think it would survive in a bigger town.

Vor dem Besuch der berühmten Abbey von Jedburgh suchten wir zur Nachmittagszeit nach einem ansprechenden Restaurant. Die Auswahl im kleinen Ort Jedburgh ist eher bescheiden. Am ansprechendsten war das Simply Scottish, aber wir wurden enttäuscht. Die Bedienung war lustlos und von unserer Bestellung kurz vor 16.00 Uhr sichtlich genervt. Passend dazu hat das Essen überhaupt nicht geschmeckt.

We have Been in here a few times and the food has been consistently good. The staff were very pleasant but one waitress definitely stood out above the rest (the short young girl with long black hair and glasses) it was a very busy day and she was very attentive even though she was looking after everyone else. We believe that she is a credit to the cafe! We will definitely be back and we hope this waitress will be working to make us feel welcome again.

My friend and I stopped here for lunch, and it was wonderful! We had Chicken Pies, and the crust was the flakiest I have ever tasted. And the chicken and sauce were great. We were also impressed when they brought us ice cubes in our drinks. They must have known we were American, because drinks are usually served without ice in Ireland and the United Kingdom. Some restaurants there acted insulted that we would even ask for ice.

We were meeting some American friends in Jedburgh and had time for a coffee. Simply Scottish is pretty much in the centre of Jedburgh and so we chose this cafe for a coffee. The staff were pleasant and the coffee was good. There were lots of nice cakes, but we'd had a big breakfast and couldn't manage anything.

My partner and I stopped here and had a delicious lunch. Delicious fresh sandwiches and huge portions. The salmon was the best I have tasted!

Dosnt specify fully on the menu Homemade burger had more onions than meat-amd not small onions either! Cakes are lovley though

We visited the simply scotish the second time during our trip in Scotland. We have been there five years ago the first time an it was delicious again this time. Friendly and hospitally staff, good food to serve!

We have been before, a year ago visiting the Borders, and were very happy to find the place just as good. Anywhere that can cater for our vegetarian, wheat-free & dairy-free needs with generous home-made food is very much appreciated. We left Fife at 7.15am & arrived 9.45am, so we had to wander down the High St and back until they opened at 10am. We ordered a chicken & bacon mayo sandwich & gluten-free cheese & onion chutney toasty, which both come with side salad & crisps. The staff are very accommodating & helpful with listing ingredients for us. We had looked forward to this brunch all the way down & we weren't disappointed.

Came here to meet a friend for brunch on a Monday morning. Nice restaurant/cafe, situated right on the High Street. Greeted by friendly staff, service was very good. Ordered a roll with bacon and a tattie scone (specifically asked for bacon to be crispy) - oh my goodness- absolutely delicious! A lovely place to eat. Menu has lots of choices from snacks to more substantial lunch options. Been here a few times, always been good food and service. Will definitely visit again.

Called in here for a quick lunch, unfortunately there was nothing quick about it! On arrival we were greeted by a rather unfriendly staff member but as we didn’t have long decided to stay. Coffee was first, bitter and just unpleasant. Then after a 20 minute wait our sandwiches finally arrived, even though people that came in after us got served hot food before us? Expensive and not worth the wait

Very good vegetarian choices in fantastic cafe, with tasty food choices and amazing cake. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area.

Husband and I had a superb Cullen skink here. The prices were very reasonable, and th service was excellent. We will definately return.

I popped into Simply Scottish in Jedburgh to cool off on a beautiful day. We were at once seated by a friendly waitress who advised us to take a seat, the service was great and the food nice but it was unbelievably hot sitting next to a radiator that was turned on even though it was 18 degrees outside! The only relief was the nice breeze through the open door, however this was short lived as the waitress was asked to close this! The cafe became unbearably stuffy within minutes and every time someone opened the door it slammed shut disturbing all the customers!

We had a great lunch at this place on a day trip to Jedburgh. There were a few places to chose from and we chose this one as it looked very popular. My boyfriend had a delicious bacon sandwich and I had an equally delicious...
