Simla in Melton

Ordered a meal from Simla and was informed via email it was being prepared only then 40mins later I receive a message informing me order had been cancelled without any explanation! I tried to call restaurant but no answer at all, I have also emailed and still received no explanation. I'm also still awaiting refund! Absolutely appalling and would not order ever again its a shame because this place used to be good but sadly gone downhill!

First visit since the new ownership. Warm welcome with friendly service, excellent food, well presented and good value for money. Looking forward to visiting again.

Ordered take away to be delivered, had to phone after hour to see where it was, promised 5-10 minutes, 20 minutes later arrived. Luke warm and tasteless. Really disappointed.

We have been happily returning again and again to the Simla for around a year now, it really is a superb restaurant, and we’ve had takeaways from the Simla too. The menu is large with all classics you’d want plus a range of house specials. The wait staff have been happy to make recommendations when asked. The food is consistently delicious, timely and well priced. Good wine menu and selection of other drinks. We had not had any disappointments here at all.

Visited in December 21 I have to say hands down this is the worst meal I have ever been served in an Indian restaurant or takeaway for that matter. Lamb Tawa is my go to dish and I’ve eaten it from many different places. This was simply awful, the meat, not 100% sure it was lamb was dry and over cooked, the sauce had no depth and was watery, normally with this dish the sauce is reasonably thick and grainy showing plenty of ingredients have been added to create it. This was a plateful of meat and sliced onions with something poured over, no garnish, no effort. Another thing noted the place looked tired, oak doors are a nice touch but the dirty patches around the handles showed a lack of cleanliness, especially the kitchen door.

6 of us ordered meals and it was delivered to our campsite (Eye Kettleby Lakes) and we all had varied dishes. All of the food (generous portions) were cooked to perfection. One of the best ‘delivered’ meals I have had.

Our first time eating here the food was lovely and hot and just as we ordered. Great staff cud not do enough for you we will be back again.

We turned up unannounced the staff were very welcoming & friendly, gave us some good advice on what to try, as it turns out it was one of the best curries all 3 of us had experienced. Thank you.

Ordered for delivery at 5.30 for a 7.15 delivery. 8pm came and after numerous phone call got through to be told that the food wasn’t coming! When asked why the phone was put down! Don’t trust them if you fancy your food on time or at all.

Absolutely lovely meal, 4 different dishes, very tasty. Fantastic quality every time. Full of flavours would highly recommend.

Recently re-opened after lockdown and still the best! Enjoyed a fabulous takeaway last night. Ready perfectly on time, piping hot and delicious well cooked food as always. My son has a nut allergy, gluten and milk intolerances and is always well catered for here, owner always remembers and is confident with ingredients of his dishes. Couldn’t ask for more!

Just moved to Melton and found this restaurant on just eat. Not very many options but decided to give it a try. The food arrived on time and hot. It was also the best Indian takeaway I've had in a long time. I had muscles in white wine and seafood supreme. Will definitely be back to try some more.

Go to this restaurant on a regular basis through out the year We decided to have a take-out on New Year’s Eve for 4 adults They said it would be 1 hour untill delivery, we said fine 90 minutes later the meal arrived, we did call and he said it was on its way When it arrived, we had items missing and it was stone cold We called and told them so They said sorry and they would deliver the missing items 15 minutes later they arrived with a couple of extra items, they were stone cold as well What was going to be a New Year’s Eve celebration dinner, turned out to be very poor Never again on this dinner we received SPOILT OUR NIGHT

Relaxing restaurant and fantastic food, nothing is too much trouble and we enjoy visiting regularly!

We were at Eye Kettleby caravan site Melton Mowbray and Friday night is takeaway evening. When we arrived Abdul from Simla was handing out menus. We have ordered from here before. My husband asked him about a special dish he liked but wasn’t on the menu. He listened and said no problem everything was freshly cooked. He said when you call ask for Abdul. We called later. And Abdul actually answered the phone. He remembered straight away the conversation we had earlier. Food arrived on time. With lots of other peoples orders. Absolutely amazing. Very good value for money. Lots of meat. Hot and tasty. Excellent. Will be ordering next time we are here.

Not the first time I have visited Simla and it’s was and still is excellent They took time to run through the menu and even altered dishes to suit Food and service was top class All our party enjoyed their meals

We have visited here regularly for the last few years, keep meaning to post a review and never get round to it, but here again and such a wonderful welcome, best Indian food locally, freshly cooked and always happy to advise or cook you something not on the menu to your taste, if considering coming here definitely try it as you won't be disappointed and will have a lovely evening.

We have just had a takeaway delivered to the caravan site club house, the customer service and delivery was excellent, we asked for the food to arrive at 7pm and it arrived at 7.pm exactly. The food was delicious.

It's been a while since writing a review on T.A but this restaurant really deserves a shout out. This was the 3rd time eating here in 6 weeks and each time has been a model of consistency and excellence. Ate here on the Sunday evening just gone and Abdul had a nice way of looking after us but letting us get on too. This is an art despite us being the only table seating. I will definitely keep driving the distance to come here, which includes bringing my own clients and friends to a place that offers great food and character. Abdul the manager here is such a nice fella, the food is superb and everything is always spot on, very very friendly can’t fault it !! The lamb falls apart so tender

This is my personal favourite indian restaurant, they always serve amazing food, the speed of service is always great, they do a special banquet night every Wednesday which is around £10 per person. I would definitely recommend eating here

we had a delivery food arrived on time and was hot, Hubby had Madras and I had a jalfrazi and 2 veg side dishes quite large portions we could have had a main between both of us quite tasty

Absolutely stunning food and the service is friendly and impeccable. All dishes that my family have had on multiple occasions have been of the highest quality and the prices are incredibly reasonable. The staff are so helpful and polite, I couldn’t ask for a better experience. I will definitely be an on going customer. The must for Melton Mowbray!

Sorry to have to leave a negative review as it seems everyone thinks this place is amazing but I find it anything but. I ordered a take away and was told to collect in 40 minutes but found I was left waiting for ages when I got there so took an hour and 45 minutes from point order. I did receive an apology which would have been fine if the food was good but it was absolutely poor. Bland beyond belief considering it’s an Indian restaurant and lack of mint sauce and salad. Just really disappointing as the food was for a special occasion. I’m sorry but I won’t be coming again.

Having order and being told to collect in 40 minutes. Upon arrival a further 45 minutes. In total from point of order 1hr 25 minutes with no warning or communication. The waiter said sorry when handing the food but overall extremely poor customer service. In addition the food unfortunately was not worth the wait. It had absolutely no flavour, no salad or lemon or mint sauce. Would defobatly not be visiting here again.

We have been here so many times and never had anything less than a great meal. All of our kids have had birthdays here and my partner too. In terms of value even on full price night, 8 of us ate and drank including brandy, wine and beer for £140 for 4 courses. We bought home 2 untouched dishes. Best indian I've been to

Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this Indian restaurant. We have had two takeaway meals delivered directly to our pitch at Eye Kettleby Lake Caravan Park. Delivery man prompt and polite. Portions perfect. Great authentically spiced Jalfrezi and we know a good curry! Lots of chicken, peppers and onions at just the right heat. Poppadoms and pickles and tasty chapatti. We live in abroad otherwise this would definitely be our regular takeaway. Don't miss out. This is a fab experience. Keep up th good work. Top team with Mr Shah.

Well priced good food and even do a takeaway. Fairly quite place but food is good. We had to park a bit of a walk away as no car park very near that I'm aware of.

I ate here with a group of work colleagues on a Thursday night, and the food and service were excellent. For £10.95 you get a starter, a main course, rice and either a vegetable side dish or a naan. Everything I had was tasty and well presented and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Never had a bad meal here, we went on a banquet night, excellent value for £10.95 you have a starter, main, veg side dish, rice or nann. The quality of the food is excellent and servings are exactly the same size and quality as any other regular priced menu night. Definitely recommend Simla it’s the best curry house in Melton Mowbray.

Another gorgeous meal last night courtesy of Simla. We have been dining at or having take away meals from Simla since they first opened in Melton Mowbray and in all that time they have consistently served excellent food. They are always courteous and polite and we'd like to thank Abdul and his staff once again for their great service.

We all went for a birthday treat and where not disappointed on certain evenings you can also have a cut price meal, we will definitely return to try other selections on the menu

The service was polite, friendly and efficient, the food delicious, and the Wednesday banquet menu extremely good value. I'm going again tonight!

Whilst staying at eye kettlby lakes there were take a way menus in the club house where you can order to your caravan pitch which is a fabulous idea we placed our order on a Friday night a mix kebab starter & king prawn with chilli & lemon, popadoms & pickles these all were delicious the king prawns were huge and the onion pickle was sweet the best I have had we ordered lemon rice, tikka masala & garlic & coriander nan bread the curry was creamy & very tasty & so was the lemon rice the man was full of fresh coriander this was one of the best Indian take away see have had in a long while

The menu was totally different from the one online so we were disappointing from the start. Good service but the food was nothing special apart from the sauces. Its a standard curry house with pricey beer.

El camarero era muy amable y servicial y sugirió mi amigo pruebe un curry diferente que era lo suficientemente suave para su disfrute. Yo y mi marido y otro amigo todos tenían platos de mariscos y estas fueron excelentes, así como el pan Naan. Todo estaba muy bien presentada y el servicio de atención al cliente era excelente también. Era un precio muy razonable. Volveremos en el futuro. Recomiendo encarecidamente este restaurante indio. During our visit to Eye Ketteby lakes we discovered a takeaway curry could be delivered to our caravan, now , my partner and I enjoy a curry and we cook our own at home. We have had curry from a lot of different takeaways. When our curry turned up on time we were both looking forward to trying a new curry house - I wont go into detail as to what we ordered, but I'm a fussy Git! Both the starters and mains were excellent . When we are in the area next we will order again!

last night i had a takeaway from Simla, and to say it was awful is an understatement,it was so bland and tasteless i thought i had ordered chicken supreme, from a school canteen. When i ordered it i asked about this dish and was told it was well spiced and medium heat, which was what i wanted, but having a watery chicken dish with raw onions and some cream in, with no taste... wasn't what i expected or orderedI would seriously think about ordering from here again.

Without doubt the best Indian restaurant in town to sit down for a meal, the only thing that lets it down is the price. Service and quality of the food is excellent.

Had a takeaway last night, yet again great service. Delivery time was as promised, food was piping hot and extremely good - as always. We eat here quite often. There's always a warm welcome. The range of food is good, the quality of the food is great and it is very good value for money. I've never been disappointed here and I'm happy to recommend it.

Booked on the 12th January for six people as a friend was celebrating her 60th. Food was really good and made to our specific tastes; some were made spicier and others were toned down to suit us. Staff very helpful and friendly. A cake had been delivered earlier and the staff were great they added candles and served it to the table with plates and forks.Everyone had a lovely time.

Popped in with a family friend on spec on a Saturday night. The initial impression was the decor needs a little updating and the waiting area again looked tired. But the service was welcoming and the food was even better. We had mains of lamb rogan josh and chicken madras with the pilau rice having a beautiful fragrance. The price including drinks were very competitive. A recommend and a return.

i had contacted the manager abdul about a one off meal for a 12 persons family get together and he suggested a slow cooked lamb dish that does not appear on the menu involving a couple of days preparation. our party were warmly welcomed by sid and ahmed who went the extra mile keeping us topped up while the banquet was served. 3 huge legs of lamb that were so tender and delicately spiced served with a host of side dishes kept us busy for a couple of hours . this was a truly wonderful bangladeshi meal which will stay in our memories. many thanks abdul and all the staff, we will be back !!!

It was nice! Although very loud and echoing and with so many people in there I ft like I couldn't here myself think. We went in the Thursday which was stater main course rice and side for £9.95 which was great value.

This is a lovely restaurant with very good food and friendly staff. They have bargain nights on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Highly recommended

Ordered a takeaway and was told 30 minutes. Arrived after 30 minutes and paid. I stood at the bar as he didn't say anything about a wait. 20 minutes went by and I asked how long and they said a couple of minutes. The food arrived after an hour of making the order not 30 as promised. Now I don't mind if on the phone they stayed 60 minutes but why wouldn't he tell me in the restaurant that there was going to be a long wait when I paid. Save me from standing for half an hour. When they handed over the food no apology or even an extra dish for the wait. The food was at best average. Some of it not even hot and we only ordered two mains with a couple of sides. The chapatis were the driest I've ever tasted. If you order a takeaway make sure you double the time before collecting. I'll be going to another Indian where the staff are more polite and professional.

The waiter went out of his way to get us the type of curry we were after. I had a chicken and lamb tawa, which was tender and full of flavour.

On a recent visit to Melton, we were trying the local pubs and decided to have a curry to end the evening. Despite it being later on in the evening, they were still happy to serve. The food was lovely and fresh and was served quickly and politely.A test we do at each restaurant is to see whether the plates served are warm and these were! Big tick :)

Having booked a table for four, we were pleased that on arrival we were shown straight to the table (not always the case at some restaurants). We ordered drinks and poppadoms which arrived within 10 minutes. The waiter helped us with the menu, making recommendations, and the meals were ordered. The dishes all arrived in reasonable time. The food was really good. nice and tasty and the meat nice and tender.With 4 pints of draft Larger, 2 bottles of wine, poppadoms,starters, mains, rice and Nan breads, the price worked out at £27 per head - which we thought good value. The staff were helpful and friendly and the service good.This and the fact they serve DRAFT Larger plus the quality of the food means we will use again.

Food always good. Good value and nice place to eat. The drinks are very expensive. The staff are attentive but the odd member of staff can be abit creepy and felt uneasy round him. My friends said the same thing.

Stayed in eye kettleby lodges ordered a Indian from here vindaloo and a masala, fantastic delivered straight to our lodge recommend this place for anyone staying at the lodges, well priced 1 hour delivery can't fault the place !!

Early doors so the place was empty,the service is just how I like it not hovering round you just take the order then leave. Food did come quick but the was expected but could not fault it. Very tasty and loverly and hot. I'm not local so could not see any parking.

Me and a friend visited Simla and we had a great experience, bar the slow service and a 'a joke' made by a staff member.Upon receiving our main course, the waiter told us it was a type of curry we hadn't ordered. We explained that we didn't order it and that we would need the one we ordered, and he said 'We've made it now so we can't change it'.The waiter was very serious in his demeanour, therefore when he told us that he was joking and what was in his hand was in fact the correct dish, it was quite apparent that we didn't see the funny side of it. Despite being young girls and like having a joke ourselves, we honestly didn't feel like we experienced a professional service.The food itself was an all round winner, and having a wide selection on the menu was great.Wouldn't go back.

Came here for a Wednesday dinner to take advantage of their special offer. We have passed the restaurant many times since it opened but have never been in as we love our other Indian restaurant.It has a nice arrival lounge where you can have a drink, but the fridges were all switched off and empty and kind looked like they were closing down. Not a good first impression.We ordered a drink and then were shown to our table.About 20 minutes later we were offered another drink and by 30 minutes after sitting down, no one had taken our order for food.The starters tool about 30 minutes to arrive and the main meal followed. I don't like to be rushed, but the service here was too slow and impersonal. No attempt at all to strike up any conversation.The food was really tasty, in fact, probably more than our usual but could have been hotter as I found it warm.Overall, OK but not great.

This has to be the top Indian Restaurant in town. Food is great - and the presentation of the dishes gives added sophistication. Coupled with friendly, professional waiter service the Simla has it all.

Been here on several occasions and always had good food and service. Fairly standard menu with all the usual suspects. Well worth a visit.

We use this often, for eating in, and take outs, our work goes here too, so really really recommend it to anyone, they also cater for families with young children

This has to be one of, if not the best Indian take away in the uk. I've eaten in a lot of towns and nowhere beats simla. So if you live in or around melton I would recommend you go there. The staff will bend over backwards to make your visit the best.

I love Indian food and have visited many restaurants both in England and overseas. I can honestly say this meal at Simla was one of the best I have ever had. I had Chicken 25 ?(could be 64 ? ) for starters and it was delicious.The decor is relaxing and contemporary. The Wedensday night special is great value. Whenever I visit Melton I make sure to eat at your restaurant. Great service and friendly waiters. Thanks heaps.

The guys at simla are great at giving you everything you need and more. The staff are very patient and are always at hand to help.The food here is also brilliant with a good selection and with an average waiting time.

Low on flavour. Use chilli to boost flavour which doesn't work, just means you can't taste it anymore.

I went here a few weeks ago with a group of 7 friends. We had picked a night were it was £11 for a starter, main, rice and nan. We arrived and were told it is now £12, ok an extra £1 no big deal. Sat down and ordered, the food arrived about 10 minutes later. Food was nice but it wasn't hot, in fact it was only barely warm. They also kept forgetting items of the meal, someone's drink, someone's rice, someone's nan. We were done within an hour and 15 mins. I think Simla is ok but I don't think we'll be returning

Last Friday we were eating with friends at their house and we convinced them to buy the food from Simla. Mine was excellent, a madras that didn't taste aggressive but wrapped itself around my tastebuds. Rojan josh, korma was enjoyed by all. We go nowhere else

Having eaten at other Indian restaurants in Melton Mowbray, I can't understand why we haven't been here before. Whilst I was slightly concerned to begin with, by the lack of customers on a Friday night, i really shouldn't have worried!! The staff were all more than helpful, offering suggestions on dishes through to great speedy service. The food was the best I've had at an Indian restaurant, fantastic presentation on the starters and realistic sized portions for the mains, all of which were hot (heat) and flavoursome.The downside to this place; there's little parking directly outside, so you would have a short walk to get to. Depending on where you park, you could end up walking by the other Indian restaurant, which is brightly lit & more noticeable. The restaurant frontage could do with being brightened up, and made clearer where to enter, as we both walked straight by the door to the take-away part, thinking that there was another entrance, but this serves both take-away and restaurant.That said, we'll definitely eat here again!!

Having read the reviews I was looking forward to dinner at this place. On arrival the staff were friendly and despite it being early evening there were several diners who were clearly regulars which I took as a positive. The mixed grill starter was fine but a very small portion. As for the main dish: the jalfrezi was tasteless and the potatoes in the side dish were raw. The staff were attentive but I was so disappointed I couldn't even bring myself to complain (I hope this was a one off ).

This place just keeps getting better, I have eaten there on at least 6 occasions and each time I seem to enjoy it all the better, not sure if Abdul will thank me for this but each time I go he allows me to have a dish made on request by chef, I tell him what I like and how hot and he never disappoints, accompanied by my usual saag aloo this place is right up there as a top curry place, give it a go

Always a warm welcome and good quality has always been consistently good. It's not the very best but is nonetheless good.

The food was stunning, the meat was tender and succulent, the spices fresh and stated just right. The presentation was excellent, the staff friendly and helpful. I couldn't finish my meal (but that's just the way I am - no comment on the meal.....though the portions were generous.

We arrived at 5.30pm and right through to the end of the meal the staff were superb. The catered fantastically for the 5 children, all under 8, in our party and nothing was too much trouble. It was my Dad's 70th Birthday meal and they found us a great 13-seat table in an area where the kids could get down and play as and when they wanted. All in all a great meal, great food and great staff. Recommended!

A party of 13 including 5 children aged between 2 and 8 went here on a Saturday evening for a meal. The staff were very helpful. Children were no problem to them. They provided extra plates so the children could share meals as there was no children's menu. The restaurant was very clean and tidy. Staff were very attentive and well dressed. The food was excellent. No complaints from any of us and we all had different Indian meals. The restaurant is away from the waiting area for the take away collection which was nice. Lovely clean table linen and cotton serviettes. There is parking at the back up a narrow entrance by the restaurant. Also a large town car park is only 2 mins walk across the main road. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Having been to this restaurant since it opened and through the different owners I would say it's back to its best. Very distinctive dishes with great flavour which is so refreshing as all the others in Melton are getting more and more bland.Here they produce dishes that you can't make at home or buy at a supermarket. Recommend.

As always a fantastic and very tasty meal from Abdul and his staff. We have a 'Richards Special'Which I would recommend, not a traditional curry, but very very tasty!!!!!! Chicken based.Wether you take out or eat in always a great tasting meal. Highly recommended in my opinion.Richard & Gaynor

We have just had another excellent meal at Simla. Scallops lovely as always, jhinga prawns superb and chicken tikka jalfrazi succulent. Only to be topped by the attentive waiters and Abdul being the perfect host, making for a lovely evening. Highly recommended.

I've been twice to simla first time it was in jan 2013 me and my wife went there for our anniversary we were welcomed by really friendly staff so i thought it was a good start. We ordered our food I had the tandoori mix grill my wife had the seafood platter my wifes food was ok but mine came out cold first of all secondly it smelled and tasted off i gave it back to change it but they bought out the same one by just heating it in the microwave I over heard them saying to heat it in the microwave. After I went home I had really bad stomach problems for 2 days after that inccident we went to try it again in june to see if it had improved. We ordered the same thing it came out hot this time but it still made me ill again I've eaten in apurba never has anything like that has happened to me. I eat a lot of indian food simla has to be one of the worse indian in melton. When it first opened the food and service was excellent i would have said it was the best in melton not anymore. I would say apurba is i wouldn't recommend going to simla.

Wow what can I say! This is by far the best take away / restaurant in Leicestershire maybe the uk. The staff are great and nothing is to much. The place is clean and outstanding. But the most important thing is the food and I know you havent teasted better. All at a very low price.

We have been to many Indian restaurants all over but must mention this has to be one of the best.Besides the service, and very friendly staff being fantastic, the food is excellent,and I must say the onion bhaji are the best I have ever tasted.We visit here with our friends from Melton and must say every time we go we always have a lovely meal and great night.
