Sid's spice in Highland

This food was delicious and the service was excellent. I had the most amazing curry and rice. We wanted to leave a tip, however they told us they didn’t except tips. This was so humble and amazing. They were voted 2nd best curry/Indian in Scotland (I don’t remember lol) but they should be first. Perfect restaurant if you are in highland Scotland!

Our family if 8 ordered a take away using their online ordering. It was straight forward and the food was ready in time and all in order. The food was without exception delicious! Every dish was tasty! Although the pakora was not what we were used to from Glasgow based Indian restaurants it was still good and enjoyed. Don’t miss out eating here.

I’m not sure what food was being served but it was not Indian. The Chicken Tikka Masala sauce was bright red and the only taste was coconut milk. I would question whether it was even freshly made. It was awful. The naan was doughy and tasteless. We barely touched our food and got the bill and left. On the plus side, the young man who took our order was lovely and we did enjoy the after dinner mints that came with the bill ( best part of the meal).

Enjoyed a lovely, tasty, Indian meal here last night, good service from the young lad too. Lovely, clean surroundings. Extensive menu but went for the old favourites, Jalfrezi and pasanda, Palau rice and a Nan bread. Likely try the carry out when next here with he caravan.

Great food and service at aside Spice yesterday. We were a party of 4 adults and one baby. When we arrived a high chair was already at the table end though we hadn’t asked for it. Our order was taken by a lovely young man. The chicken tikka masala was awesome. I would recommend anyone staying in or travelling through Brora to give Sid Spice a visit. It also has plenty of parking outside.

Staying locally found details of Sid's Spice at our accommodation. On line ordering was easy and then the food is absolutely amazing. Well worth a visit or takeaway.

We have eaten in countless Indian restaurants over 50 years, and this restaurant in remote north eastern highlands is definitely one of the very best EVER. It was great last year, but has somehow improved. Very clean, modern-looking premises, attractive menu, good prices, succinct wine options, excellent service. What a joy, in a small village that is very lucky to have it. Well done everyone. We will definitely returning when we visit the area in the future 9 we love it around here)

Their curry's are far from authentic and priced ridiculously. You can get a curry twice this size, 10 times as good and likely buy 2 of them most places for the price you pay for 1 here. Didn't even inform us they add a service charge themselves. We booked a table for 2 so it's not like it was a big booking, I'm happy to tip but how arrogant is it that they do it instead of letting you decide? This place used to be well renound and they boast on their flyers about being the second best rated Indian restaurant in Scotland. Well, I'm guessing whoever rated that has a fairly bland palate or the place used to be good and since they got lazy and let that rating carry them. Because the food was sub par but the prices suggested they actually thought it was worth it which I find even more astonishing. The spice and flavours seem to suggest they think that if you throw a mix of spice together on top of a generic base it might just work...it doesn't. When you have a curry made with care and passion you should have a progression of flavours and spice that compliment and enhance each other. The food we had just seemed like the curry was made with a 'meh that'll do' attitude. My recommendation, if you want a good curry, get the train to wick or go South, get 10 times better food and hey, the money you save compared to their over priced dinner may even be enough to cover your train fair!

Who in their right mind said this is the 2nd best Indian restaurant in Scotland? Did they go when they didn't have any taste buds or was it their first time trying Indian food. The food is definitely not authentic. Been to many Indian restaurants and this does not even make it in the top 50. It's something you would eat after a long night drinking and would still not be desirable.

This is a top tier local curry house. Friendly staff, very tasty food. The menu has a nice mix of familiar classics and specials. Everything we tried was full of flavour and nicely portioned. A must visit if you're in the area and like curry.

Sid offers a lovely sit in restaurant but for our visit this time we opted for take out. We have eaten in twice and took out a fair few times. But regardless of which way you are eating your food it is always first class....

We ordered a couple of meals for takeaway during our stay in Golspie.The food was still piping hot by the time we drove back to Golspie and it was well worth the trip. The lamb tikka balti and south Indian garlic chicken tikka with pilau rice and garlic nan was absolutely delicious. One of the best curries we have tasted for a while. If you are in the area please give it a try we highly recommended it

We get takeaway from here every time we visit Brora in our motorhome. The choice is really good and the food is excellent. Sid keeps his website up to date with opening times, especially during the pandemic. I'd recommend this restaurant to everyone. I hope people keep using him when we're allowed to eat out again.

Contrary to the last 2 poor reviews, we have just enjoyed a lovely Indian takeaway while visiting Brora. Perhaps the restaurant was just struggling to get up and running again post lock down? We found the portion size of both starters and main courses to be more than adequate. The food tasted fresh and delicious and the service was great.All in all a lovely meal. Thank you Sid's Spice.

Pakora comprises 4 meagre pieces per portion. Chicken pakora is chicken in batter.Lamb Rogan Josh was beef. The sauce was old congealed gravy heated up. It was far from fresh and very sweet.King Prawn Kashmiri was King Prawn Korma with bananas.The nan bread was like rubber and was a heated up supermarket nan. Far from clear how this business claims to be second best in Scotland.Suggestion.Try harder. Stop conning your customers.

Ordered online, great experience. Menu really helped selection of dishes to suit our palate and stated desired pick up time. That’s where the good bits endedGot a call to say despite pickup being 45 mins away needed another 15 mins and on arrival still had to wait.At best food was average, very mild despite menu saying otherwise and the Dahl was like thin cheap lentil soup. Coconut rice was like rice and sawdust!Given price was expensive, not great value!

Had a New Year’s Eve meal here and it didn’t disappoint. Yes - it did take a long time to get our food but the owner was very apologetic and gave us a free round of drinks but you could clearly see how busy they were so I fully understand! The food was worth the wait and was freshly cooked & hot and well presented. There’s a wide variety of dishes on the menu and an English section if you’re not a fan of Indian food. 5/5 would definitely recommend!

We had an excellent meal, enjoyed by all.We arrived to place the order on a very busy evening in the restaurant, so unfortunately had a long wait but didn’t mind going away and returning. Despite this I have to say the service was the best I have ever seen in an Indian restaurant and the staff at the counter were very hospitable.

Visited Sids for a 2nd time on our last trip to Brora in October and again it was absolutely superb. Tried a different meal off the menu, mouthwatering! The service was first class. Simply the best Indian dishes I have ever had! Even the four dips/chutneys that came with the poppadoms were delicious and freshly made. Beautifully flavoured meals.

We visited on a Sunday night in mid November, would have expected it to be quiet, it turned out to be very busy with both sit in and takeaway customers. The food was excellent. The poppadums were thicker than usual and came with a tray of four chutneys that were different to the usual ones served in other restaurants. We both tried different specialities which were cooked to perfection and expertly spiced.

2 of us out for a meal, one who doesn't like Indian so had the steak which was plentiful and nicely cooked. Other diner was very happy with the food and said it was excellent. Helpful friendly staff, everything as it should be and more so. would definately come back when in the area

Fantastic curry. Well worth a visit particularly if you are on the north coast 500. Try the dhansac its fantastic. Couple of pieces of pineapple which was a surprisingly pleasant addition.

Nothing too pretentious on the decor front, just looks like any other curry house but the real beauty of this place is the food. Flavourful fresh curry well cooked. Well worth the trip.

Heard some very good experiences from others eating here and went to try it out ourselves.All round the table were very pleased with the food and service.Lots of choice on the menu,all had different curries,all varying hotness,presentation was really good using herbs as a colourful garnish. Been a loyal customer to Spice since it first opened in Brora. Food is very good and fresh, waiting times are a bit of a joke especially for local takeaway customers waiting 2+ hours to get a takeaway order. Understandably with the nationwide recognition they've received they have a standard to keep up in their restaurant just feels like the local takeaway customers have really received the short end of the stick from it all. But what really spoils it for me is the massive bump up in prices and the portions have just gotten smaller and smaller to the point where a takeaway tub isn't even have full anymore. Feels a massive insult which has put me off the place and I don't tend to bother going there much. It's a good thing for the tourist industry of Brora and if you're passing through I'd highly recommend it but it's just a shame what's happened with the quality for regular customers

Rated 2nd in Scotland, and we agree that Sid’s Spice is great! We ordered from Sid’s Signature Dishes, ‘Sid House Special’ and ‘Goan Lamb Delicacy’, together with lemon cashew nut rice, Tarka Dall and a butter chapati. Flavours exceeded our expectation, rich, interesting and varied. Portion size is perfect. Allow a couple of hours for your meal, but any wait is totally worthwhile. First class flavours in the most unexpected place. Five stars from us, and definitely looking forward to our next visit.

Probably the best curry I’ve ever had. I went straight in for the lemon and cashew rice, king prawn sagwala and a poppadom. The flavours were rich, complex and every bite seemed to have its own character. Even the poppadom had a thicker, fuller bite than any I’ve tried before. Any Indian cuisine-lover staying within 50 miles of this restaurant should visit. Wow.

Firstly, phone and book in advance. Sid's is a victim of its own success. We visited on a Sunday in September and just got a 9pm table for two, phoning at 6ish. It was busy!

We visited this fabulous Indian restaurant whilst staying at the caravan/motorhome site just outside Brora. We arrived on opening at 5pm to be told that there was a delay with ordering the food but we ordered drinks and got poppadoms and dips which were lovely. We ordered the chicken Bhalti and chicken Mandalay with rice and garlic naan and it was delicious, piping hot and plentiful. The waiter was very friendly and professional and we had a nice chat with him as he was from our part of the world, Leeds. We definitely recommend this restaurant and it also does a takeaway service. Best meal in ages.

Great food but a hell of a wait. 3 hours till our main course and 7 bottles of beers later. Some of the orders were wrong too. 2nd time I've been and unless they get more staff I won't be back. I'll phone for a carry out next time.

Fancied giving this one a go and so glad we did. The food was very good, well prepared and served. The menu is of a by gone time but that is not an issue. Standard Indian dishes from back in the 80's and I got a nostalgic feeling just sitting and waiting for others to finish the meal. My kids (ranging in age from 15 to 26) had no idea what I was going on about but this just added to my enjoyment. The lamb Phall was exquisite with just the right amount of heat balanced by the citrus of lime coming through over the top. The nann bread was just a little disappointing in that it was on the 'cool' side when it got to us but in the scheme of things, didn't matter too much.

Amazing food well worth the wait - we will be going back for more 👍🏻 we ordered plenty and it was all well above average.

we booked a table, and when we arrived the table was ready, and were seated quickly, but that was as good as the service got. we waited 20 minutes to order drinks, and then had to shout to the waiter twice to order our food. all in all we were in the restaurant for three hours for our two course meal.

We were lucky enough to be waited upon by Sid even though it was quite busy when we visited. After a lovely dinner he took time to chat about the business and it was obvious to me that he is a dedicated and hard working restauranteur who deserves the success that he has. This was our first time eating there and I was impressed by how welcome we were made to feel. I would recommend Sid's Place anytime.

Ordered a take away meal on Friday night (16th August) for 8 people as the family had arrived after a 5 hour drive up from the central belt for a wedding on the Saturday.
