Came here with some friends, four of us in total. We had plans later that evening so decided to go for the early-bird menu, giving ourselves plenty of time. We waited a good 20 minutes before someone came to take our order. The service was so slow, we were still there two hours later, still without mains, without drinks top up and without apology. Completely fed up (and late), we told the waiter we were leaving, at which point he went back to the kitchen and bought us our food as we were putting our coats on. We reluctantly ate it - one of my friends mains was wrong so she had to wait an extra 15 minutes, adding insult to injury. When we complained, the waiter told us that he couldn't do anything and that it 'wasn't his fault' but eventually agreed that our main courses should be taken off the bill. And just to top everything off, when the bill came to the table, they had taken off a total of a tenner. After some stressful bartering, they finally took of the mains and we left, never to return!

We’ve been here a few times and this the first review we’ve written. Good quality food but we did feel the portions were a little on the small side so if you are hungry we would recommend 3 mains between two people. The place is generally quiet and therefore could do with some nice background music. Overall we always enjoy the food.

Visiting the area for the weekend, so had no recommendations. Arrived about 7.30pm on a Saturday evening without a booking, staff were happy to seat us almost immediately. We ordered the £16.50 banquet for 2 and were very impressed. The starters arrived quickly despite the restaurant being quite busy. They were piping hot and very tasty. We chose chicken with cashew nuts and a Thai green chicken curry for mains. They were two of the best dishes we have eaten....anywhere. Both were subtly spiced with a real afterkick. The rice could have been warmer, but otherwise was faultless. Great value for money. The staff were attentive at all times and a lovely lady, presumably the manageress, came over at the end to check that everything had been to our satisfaction. Would highly recommend this restaurant and will visit again if we are ever in the area. Well done Siam Oriental.

I was really excited to eat here, until I experienced the terrible service.we arrived yesterday was seated on table for two people. No drinks were offered, after more than 20 minutes,I got agitated as our waiter didn’t seemed too bothered about serving our table or apologised.what added to my annoyance is the waiter didn’t like that I asked about the drinks, not being what I asked for.probably because he was highly in experienced or just plain arrogant, maybe both I think.the wait between the starter and main was so long I wanted to leave.i wanted rice with my main but didn’t order it after my initial order because it probably wouldn’t come till after the food was all eaten!!.the main dish, duck in teriyaki sauce was very nice.it took them half an hour to bring a second glass of coke out.All in all dont come here if you are hungry!!!!.although the food seems worth tasting the service is terrible.living locally I suggest ppl go to sukhothai instead.

Right this review going to be fun for you guys to read. Me and wife are clear foodies and choose this restaurant out of the blue. We did not book beforehand with Taste Card so I must say the staffs were accommodating. The place was quite empty on a school night so I say why not. The food are great, dont get me wrong ,portion sizes are good too. The reason why they are getting 2 star is due to their billing. It was late night and I did not wanted to argue with the staff around the 2 for 1 tastecard offer. They clearly charged me extra for the couple of dishes and there is a deception 10% service charge included in the bill. If you dont see the bill minutely you will miss it. So did we. The experience was great until we came back home and realised that we got over charged and paid an extra service charge which were not clear to us. Next time if we go which I am sure we will becoz the food is no doubt really good, I will be more vigilant with my payment and so should you. Dont let this review put you off but more be careful what you pay.

Currently over two hours into our visit and yet to see a main course. Having to ask four times for some water and the 20 minute wait to be asked for our drinks order should have been the obvious warning signs of what was to come. I was still surprised however at the length of the wait without any sense of urgency from the waiting staff. In fact, we have had to chase the order ourselves with little result. Maybe we just got unlucky but beware!

The building itself has huge potential and the interior is attractive, and interestingly furnished. We opted for the early bird before a theatre visit, but were not impressed by the quality of the food; it was very hard to spot any duck that was of a decent size and wasn't fatty! Service was very friendly, but iSiam Oriental lacks the professionalism of Sukothai - laundry was being sorted in the eating area as we ate!

We booked as a taste card customer. Arrived and given a table. My wife and I were not hungry so we just ordered main course. Which I have to say was lovely. We had the twin sea bass dish which was fantastic and flavour some and king prawn red curry. Shame the dish only had 4 prawns, but still tasty. We didn't fancy and any desert and asked for the bill. Knowing how taste card works, buy a meal and get the cheapest free. Yet they wanted to charge us for the lot. Saying had to order 2 courses we didn't know this so was an issue....they should have stated this on the taste card small prints so an unpleasant finish to an otherwise lovely evening

Made a last minute decision to go out for dinner in Chapel Allerton, with a craving for Thai. Didn't bother trying Sukhothai - it's always busy anyway, but I am not a lover of the noise and atmosphere there. Walked straight in to Siam Orchid, seated immediately in a quiet table and ordered a bottle of prosecco (well, it was Friday) while we perused the menu.Quick decision made to ordef one of the set menus - crispy duck followed by prawn thai yellow curry, black pepper beef, tamarind chicken and aromatic rice. The right decision made. Duck was plentiful, enough pancakes, sauce and bits for the amount of duck, can't go wrong. Mains turned up all together, with offer of more rice if needed (we didn't). All dishes well cooked, tasty and a good combination of spice and flavour. And all came to £70 (with a generous tip) for the 2 of us.Definitely recommend - prefer here to Sukhothai.

Visited last night with friends. The restaurants nicely set up and the service is very quick. We were provided with a few crackers on the table. Some were a bit soft and a dip would have been nice.My prawn tempura started was ok but a little too much batter and not enough prawn for my liking. The cashew nuts with chicken was lovely. A little spicey but the chicken was really nice and a generous portion of noodles to go with. The portion sizes are great and we were all stuffed. We used a taste card which made it a bargain!!! I was feeling awful and I thought a tom kah would really sort me out, so I ordered a Deliveroo and added a plain rice noodles with egg on the side to get the delivery cost up. When it came I couldn't really believe how gross it tasted - I thought it was me feeling ill! Tried some the next day and the same. The soup was way too thick and had very old looking, soggy vegetables (mainly massive cabbage stems) in it, and the noodles were really pathetic - I decided to cook them again with fresh eggs and spring onions and season them properly before they were decent. For £15 altogether I was pretty disappointed. Won't be visiting in person.

This restaurant in the popular area of Chapel Allerton is actual situated in an old Police station, so you can (if you wish) have the novelty of eating in the cells! The restaurant is well decorated, warm and the staff are friendly, as well as being close to a choice of local bars that you can visit afterwards. You can usually get a table without too much of a wait or reservation and (unlike some places) the staff don't try and rush you through, so this can be a more relaxed setting. Food is of a high quality and is mid-priced, dinner with bottle of wine and beer for three £75 all in. Recommended is the 'jungle' curry and coconut rice.

I have had the pleasure of dining here on many occasions and have always been satisfied with the food. I've travelled to Thailand a number of times and I am friends with 2 Thai restaurant owners/chefs so I am well versed in the joys of Thai food. I ordered by phone and the gentleman that took my order was polite and very professional, I was told it would be ready in 15 minutes and it was, bang on, 15 minutes. All good so far! I ordered Tom Yum Gai, Som Tum (with chicken) and Chicken in Chilli and Basil stir fry with Jasmine Rice. The soup, Tom Yum, was nice a bit creamy for me but on the whole good (5*). The Som Tum salad was ok but the chicken I had with it was tough, over cooked and seemed reheated (3*). So, onto the main. This course was the heart of my disappointment. The peppers and the onions had the texture of vegetables that had been boiled for an overly long time, the basil wasn't very fresh and it was bland. Bland to the point of my wife remarking it tasted like 'weak chicken soup'. The chicken was cooked well but the dish, overall, was substandard and flavourless, certainly not to the standard I have come to expect from Siam Oriental. Had I written today's review based on previous visits, the last of which was 3 months ago, I would have given it a higher rating and a better review. But the standard today was such that I would have to seriously consider returning. It's a shame because there was a point that Siam Oriental offered real competition to the other Thai restaurant in Chapel Allerton!!

I had tried calling to book a table (I have a tastecard for 2-4-1 courses and this is advised to do so before arrival) however I could not get through on the phone line. We were the first people to arrive after opening, and when we said we had a tastecard and had tried booking they really didn't want to give us a table, after us stating that there wasn't anybody else here and that we highly doubt they will be full within the next hour it would take us to dine we didn't see what the problem was. The service throughout dinner was terrible as the waiter could not speak English he had to keep getting the manager to come speak to us. The food was good but the service terrible and even though by the end of the meal there was still less than 10 people in the restaurant, we had to wait for the bill and then send it back as they had 'forgotten' the discount, also tried enforcing a service charge onto the card machine which I made him re-enter the correct balance into the machine! We have been customers of the restaurant for many years and had nothing but great food. However this wasn't the case this time. Placed an order using the Deliveroo app. Nothing but a disaster. Firstly half of the starters didn't turn up so we had to wait for them to send these on. Onto the mains....One dish was meant to be a black bean dish but the dish was tasteless and had no trace of black beans. We also ordered a massaman curry and this was very oily. In addition 1 of the side dishes also didn't arrive. After a few calls on the evening the manager said we had to wait until the morning until he could speak to the chef to see what had gone wrong. The next day I followed this up and the manager said he wasn't willing to compensate us for the order other than the missing dishes as we had waited a day even though we complained on the evening. At £85 this wasn't a cheap takeaway and I would never order again. Deliveroo were not much help either, simply saying we can't do anything if the restaurant isn't willing to.

We decided to try a new option for a takeaway as we always get Sukhothai or Gwu when we fancy Thai or Chinese food and much as we love the food at those places, we wanted to try something different. The menu at Siam looked really promising as it had items we'd order from both of those places and we were really excited to try it. We were thoroughly disappointed. The food wasn't cheap at £41 for a takeaway for two but we usually don't mind price if the food is good. It wasn't. The pork skewers were tough, the duck was not crispy and the vegetables were dry as if they were a few days old. The Singapore noodles were the best dish we ordered and even that was distinctly average. We will be sticking with Sukhothai and Gwu from now on.

Well situated in the former Police station in central Chapel Allerton with sufficient on-street parking nearby at most time of day, this recently established restaurant has much to offer. The ambience is distinctly oriental with several two-dimensional and three-dimensional depictions of the Buddha, a rich purple and gold colour scheme and contemporary Thai music playing in the background. The waiting staff are beautifully appointed in traditional dress. The menu is varied and probably offers something for every taste. My choice was delicately spiced and well presented, but the sauce was insufficient in quantity to moisten the rice accompaniment.Lovers of oriental food will be accustomed to paying more for Thai food than for Cantonese; and that is certainly true here, but, overall, a very pleasant dining experience.

We were a family gathering, the night before Valentine's. There sure was no romance in the inn . The waitresses had such sullen faces, their English non existent. We were told to order by number, as they did not understand. When the food came we asked the young male waiter, what dishes he was bringing , response .I no no! Then when when when asked why the sticky rice was in a plastic bag and like a brick, it was taken away and returned in a bowl, still like a brick. This was partly resolved by the manager. Then there were some solid black foreign objects in the Green curry, again response I no no. They then continued to shy away from our table. It was such a dampener, as y family travel far and wide to be together, and when we choose our venues do it with care. We have been at this restaraunt a year ago so booked with confidence. Oh dear, my advice to the owners, you need new waiters with a good hospitality attitude, and check what your chef is up to .

Went here Saturday 2nd January 2016 with a family group of 5, it was my youngest daughter's 12 birthday treat. My son had taken us here for Father's day in 2015 and my daughter had sweet and sour beef which she still maintains is the nicest she has ever had ( she likes her sweet and sour dishes). We got there for the early bird menu, 2 courses for £11.95 before 7pm. The food was again excellent and the service polite and efficient. It is not cheap but the food is lovely and as the staff heard us say happy birthday to my daughter, they brought her a complimentary chocolate fudge cake pudding, the way to my daughter's heart is through chocolate. The smoothies that daughters both had were really big and refreshing. I would recommend as a place for a treat and I am sure we will go again as with the best sweet and sour and chocolate fudge cake I am sure one of my bosses will insist on it.

Stumbled upon this little gem by chance. It was pouring it down on Christmas Day tea time, we hadn't booked anywhere and saw the lights on. They could fit us in, Yay! It was empty, not a good sign. Well let me tell you it was great. We hadn't been to a Thai before and the manager was brilliant explained the meals and even played around with the set menu to accommodate us. Three course meal very reasonable price and the food was fabulous. The waiter was very attentive and polite. Will definitely be returning soon.

Having looked at this place many times over the years I can't believe we have never tried it before and have missed out!!!! We were taken there a couple of months ago by some friends and to be honest we now have difficulty wanting to go anywhere else as it is so good. The menu is large and varied, I would doubt that anybody could have difficulty finding something they want to eat. The staff are friendly, helpful and most importantly, knowledgeable about their food. The food itself is delicious, generous portions of good quality ingredients, excellently and imaginatively executed. It is also very reasonably priced. I cannot praise this place enough and although we eat out often and have eaten in many parts of the world, this restaurant ranks up there as one of my top ones.

The staff were really good but one person was truly professional to the core, thank you Ral the service we received was Second to None, the food was truly stunning yet the price was so reasonable. I do not usually recommend places just tell of my experience(s) I will be visiting this restaurant again so that is recommendation in itself, thank you for a great evening , nothing seemed to be too much for them.

This rating is mostly for the food quality. Tom yum soup quite flavourful but seafood overcooked and rubbery. Sweet corn cake starter quite bland. The prawns cooked with glass noodles in clay pot was full of huge pieces of black peppercorn and drenched in oil so could only eat the prawns really. The green Thai curry was saltier than salt water so could hardly touch it, when we told the waitress about the saltiness of the curry she could only apologise but did nothing else. Decor of the place was nice, some parts of the dining area within the old holding cells so OK if you like that kind of thing. Overall disappointing as we went on past TA reviews sorry won't be going back.

We found this place through my HiLife card, and we are so glad we did! Went for hubby's birthday, and it was gorgeous , as usual. I requested a special Thai dish that I used to get in the states (Pad Woonsen), and the chef made it perfectly. The manager/owner (?) is so nice, and nothing's too much trouble, as are the service staff. They even served a slice of yummy chocolate cake for his birthday. The only slight negative is that they are a bit heavy-handed with the salt on certain dishes, but now that I know, I will ask them to go easy next time. To be honest, they are so good, they will probably remember! Lovely decor, too. You won't be disappointed.

I live in Chapel Allerton for some time now and always saw this restaurant from the outside - doesn't look appealing. Yesterday a friend of mine took me there and wow! The place doesn't only look amazing but there is a big verity of dishes to choose. I wasn't that hungry so I ordered soup and it was yummy! The atmosphere was nice and the service was good. Not so pricey either. Would sure come again with my other half.

This was our 2nd visit to Siam Oriental and did not disappoint. Staff were all very attentive and service was fast. Best spare ribs that I've ever tasted in a restaurant, the meat fell off the bone and the the sauce was delicious. For our main dishes my boyfriend had the Beef Tida Phattalung which was flavoursome and delicious but very spicy. I had the tiger prawn in Kari sauce which was fantastic. One of my favourite restaurants in Leeds

I've been to this restaurant 3 times with my boyfriend and we can't get enough!! The staff are lovely and very accommodating, I'm a gluten free vegetarian who often finds it difficult to eat out but they were very helpful and altered what I wanted to order. I don't have a huge appetite and often struggle to finish a slice of pizza, but the thai green curry here is so tasty and full of flavour I've finished it all every time.I'm so glad we took a chance on this restaurant after seeing it on the taste card website. With the 2-4-1 offer you can't go wrong either as the food and atmosphere is definitely worth more than full price.

Me and two friends went here for dinner last night (29th June 2015) before we went to the cinema. We didn't have a booking, but we were seated straight away and were given a complimentary basket of Thai prawn crackers and prawn crackers. The restaurant is in a lovely old building and the interior is exquisitely decorated and furnished. The staff are so friendly, attentive and dressed lovely. We had the sharing starter between us which was delicious and I had the king prawn Thai green curry for main along with coconut rice. There were plenty of big tender king prawns and the coconut rice came wrapped up in a leaf, I can honestly say its the best Thai green curry ive ever had! My friends had the lamb, which was that tender it just fell off the bone. I was the nominated driver, so my friends also sampled the cocktails and they said they were amazing. The added bonus is that this place also accepts the Tastecard.

My husband and I had a rare opportunity to go out for lunch together and decided to head to Chapel Allerton to sample something from one of their many restaurants. As I eat gluten free I'm slightly more difficult to please than him and we ruled out Pinche Pinche (shut), Sukhothai (shut), Seven (mainly bread). After a fair while of wandering we decided to give Siam Oriental ago and were delighted with our experience. We were the only customers in the restaurant but the layout meant we didn't really notice that. The waitress was pleasant and attentive but not over-intrusive (and she offered my extra prawn crackers!), the food was delicious and the prices were very reasonable: £9.95 a head for starter and main (from the lunch menu rather than the full menu). Given how rarely we eat out I can't say that we'll go back soon, but if we do eat out again then we'd definitely consider a return visit.

This is the first negative review i have ever left on Tripadvisor.I should have known what to expect when on a Saturday night this place was only half full. The food is very average. For example i ordered the sweetcorn fritters as a starter. They we were undercooked and consequently soggy and dripping in oil. The spring rolls were no better than cheap takeaway. My wife and I both had the beef red curry. The beef was fatty and full of gristle. The waitress barley spoke a word of English and managed to tip half my wife's main on the table. I appreciate we were in a thai restaurant but cutlery would have been nice!Considering Sukho Thai is round the corner, which is excellent, one would have thought they would try harder. Would i eat here again, sorry no i would not. Do yourself a favour and pay a little more and go round the corner. A very disappointing experience.

First of all lets talk about the rating in which I gave 5 stars, I rarely give 5 stars and if I'm completely honest it would be nearer to the 4.5 rating. However this deserves more than 4 stars thus the 5.This place is really a hidden gem, the food is well priced with good portions and great quality. Came here with a bunch of mates (8 in total) and they catered for us immensely. Service I really can't complain they are top draw, and I'll probably come back again before the end of the month. The environment and location is also very good.I would recommend the lamb shank that is ridiculously good and I have already eyed up the king scallops for my return.

Never eaten Thai before but on a chilly wet evening it was just the job. Even though we were first through the door, we got a lovely welcome, even down to supplying a heater to warm us up! We went for the early doors menu, which had an extensive choice and was excellent value. I had honey pork for a starter - skewers of really tender sweet port - followed by Red Thai lamb curry. Both dishes were very tasty and had just the right amount of heat. My OH had lamb chops (two big chops), followed by the jungle curry - which was hot enough to make him turn red! All in all a lovely meal and we would certainly go again.

100% recommend this place!!Visited this place last night with a friend who lives down the road from Siam Oriental and it was brilliant!! Don't know why we have never eaten there before!Just from stepping into the restaurant, the atmosphere was lovely, very relaxing - felt like a bit of a spa, but the ambience was perfect.Seated straight away, had a look through the menu and had a LOT of choices and dishes to offer! They have a lot of Set Menu offers and deals as well as A La Carte. We ordered the Siam Oriental Sharing Platter, Honey Pork starter, Beef Massaman curry for my friend, Chili & basil pork for me, and a shared Pineapple Fried Rice (Chicken and prawn) and desserts. The starters arrived in perfect timing, and was delicious. The flavours in the dips especially were delicious - and everything about the sharing starters were just so yummy. It was all very fresh and flavoursome - NO complaints!!The mains arrived and they were just as great - VERY generous portions!! And so much flavour!! The pineapple fried rice was delicious, as was the chili and basil pork. Having been to Thailand several times, its great to find somewhere in England that offers great authentic flavours such as this place!I ordered banana fritters and ice cream for dessert, which too were very nice! Battered in coconut flakes - very yummy. The value for money is excellent, as said a few times below, it definitely gives other Thai restaurant chains in Leeds a run for its money!! They offer so much, set menus, early bird menus, A La Carte menu... you're spoilt for choice! The prices are perfect for what you get - the flavours are authentic, fresh and amazing. The atmosphere was spot on - we will DEFINITELY be coming back again.

I visited this restaurant early last Saturday evening with my friend. We were pleasantly surprised to see that we were in time to partake in the early bird menu which consisted of two courses for £11.95Admittedly the portions weren't huge but that suited us fine. The food was fresh, really tasty and beautifully presented whilst the service was fantastically friendly and helpful.I could not fault it until we got our desserts. Very disappointing. My friend had a chocolate pudding which was quite clearly just microwaved & put on the plate with a bit of squirty cream and decorated with 100s & 1000s. I went for the white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake, clearly just a bought in frozen dessert, defrosted and again decorated with squirty cream and 100s & 1000s. Tasteless & very disappointing. For £4.50 each dessert we were very underwhelmed. The early bird menu food however was outstanding value for money and we will definitely be back again... just won't bother with the desserts.

We Popped in rather late (9.45pm) and were greeted by friendly staff. We skipped the starters I had the jungle curry which was delicious and spicy, my girlfriend had some type of chicken and noodles which she requested be cooked spicy. The waitress advised her that the meal was not traditionally a spicy meal however she would ask the chef to make it spicy. It came out not really spicy at all but the staff were very attentive and remedied the situation quickly and professionally. The desserts were also delicious and also great value. We were some of the last people in the restaurant however were not made to feel uncomfortable/rushed in the slightest.Long story short great staff, great food beautiful venue and good value. We went on a Saturday night for a pre-booked family meal (7 of us). The restaurant is on the main road so easy to find but difficult to park; we were lucky to find street parking but there weren't many places left. We all enjoyed our starters which everyone agreed was delicious. But we then had to wait...and wait....and wait. We collected our own dishes and asked someone to move them, but waited nearly an hour between courses. So we chatted and drank the expensive Tiger beer (£5.50 a bottle....gulp!).Everyone was friendly but we kept getting told we were in a queue, even though we saw couples arrive, get seated, get served, eat, pay and then leave. We had obviously been forgotten, even though we kept reminding the waiters and waitresses. When the mains came they were okay, nothing special but reasonable Thai food. Not the best but certainly not the worst. For us, the starters outshone the mains, but there is plenty to choose from.It could have been smoothed over with a bowl of nibbles, or a drink, or anything to recognise the delay, but there was nothing. They did add a 10% tip onto the bill which we had to deduct! This may have been a one off so others should give it a try. We probably won't, which shows how businesses really only get one chance to make a good first impression.
