Amazing find! Went for a road trip today and came across this place. Great service, good menu choices and good value for money. They have an excellent COVID set up so defo worth a visit if local!!

Staff brilliantly patient when faced with indecision but we were perfect and so was the icecream. Generous portions well deserved after we'd cycled from Aboyne to reach Ballater.

A great ice cream parlour with delicious ice creams, well worth a visit. Their vegan selection is great too.

I placed an order for a chocolate ice-cream cake for my daughters birthday, it was decorated with sliced strawberries, I am not a fan of chocolate ice-cream, but decided to give it a try and I am so glad that I did, the cake came straight out of the freezer and cut fairly easily with a warm knife (instructions provided). The taste was fantastic and was so smooth and creamy. would certainly recommend. Other flavours are available but Chocolate is my daughters fave.

Ordered takeaway for delivery. Really cheap delivery fee all the way to Kingswells. We ordered 3 create your own sundaes. Absolutely huge. Delicious. Good choice of flavours. Contact free delivery.

So good we came twice! Milkshake was very tasty too although ice cream is best. The tablet flavour was particularly good. Great little place.

Delicious ic cereal lots of flavours which you can have a taste to try first. We went in a few times and the girl remembered what we had had previously. Very friendly staff!!

We stopped in on a whim for ice cream. We talked to the owner and she is a lovely gal. The ice cream was very good. We had strawberry and caramel apple. The caramel apple was perfect as one flavor did not overpower the other. Strawberry was true to flavor. All of it is made right in the store. Very worth the visit.

Delicious ice cream. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Ballater. Smoothies also looked lovely although we stuck to caramel, white chocolate and pistachio ice cream cones.

After stopping by chance in Ballater we saw this ice cream parlour and decided to give it a go. It did not disappoint, with a great selection of cones as well as ice creams and toppings the combinations were limitless. I would personally recommend the banoffee ice cream with a chocolate cone and the chocolate sauce. It was absolute heaven! Definitely the best ice cream I've ever had!

Great selection of award winning home made ice creams. Very popular and a bit of a Ballater institution, so be prepared to queue but we’ll worth it. The girls behind the counter were cheery, hard working and slick at what they were tasked with.

Visited here today on passing. Such a fab selection of ice cream, sundaes, smoothies and so much more. Traditional cones or special ones at no extra cost. All ice cream made on premises. Staff very polite and efficient. £2.40 for 2 ice creams. Defo be back.

Seems to be THE place for ice cream in Ballater. There was a line going outside of the shop. After trying the ice cream, I can understand why! Give it a try when you are in town visiting.

Took family here for ice cream at the weekend. I had mango sorbet that neither tasted of mango, nor was a sorbet. Daughter had strawberry ice cream that tasted like sour raspberries. Very disappointed.

Fantastic ice creams, friendly service and great value. They staff always make it such a special treat for the grand children (and us) with all the toppings and excellent flavour choices.

We are lucky enough to live near enough to make this our local ice cream shop. It is amazing, fantastic selection on the menu and all the ice cream is made in the shop. You must visit when in this area - you won't get better. PS The scoops are very generous

We made a special trip to Ballater for an icecream. On entering the premises, there was a young lad busy doing nothing and an older lady who was making icecream, Neither of them acknowledged our presence in any way and it was not possible to not know someone had entered their shop. A smile and a ''be with you in a moment" was all that was needed, but we were there for about five minutes just watching and waiting for a response that never came. Shocking. I have never known such ignorance and lack of customer service in a customer service industry. A smile is free and would have made all the difference. Whilst the icecream I eventually received was delicious, I certainly won't be going there again, Such a shame as it is often the service that makes or breaks a business.

Do go to this Ice Cream shop. It is great Ice Cream and fantastic value for money. It opens late in May and Summer and great for a treat after a day of walking!

Popped in for pud and asked for a 2 scoop tub of strawberry & ballater creme ice cream.

We opted for 2 scoops £3 each but to be honest one would have been sufficient £2.50. I couldn’t finish all of mine. Nice range of flavours and toppings . Worth a trip if you’re in the locality

It was a lovely day in Ballater, that we decided to have a ice cream. It is homemade and in my opinion well worth the price.

A great range of flavours of ice cream, frozen yoghurt and sorbet. All superb, very friendly service, and excellent value. The pineapple sorbet was particularly amazing. The only thing to be careful of is the scoop size - they are very generous, and I also like the fact chocolate coated cones are not extra. My youngest daughter keeps wanting to go back..

Impossible to visit Ballater and not pay a visit to Shorty’s. Only criticism is that every time I visit there are more delicious ice creams to sample. It was very cold when we visited this year however we were given such a warm welcome we added an extra scoop! This is a real gem in Ballater and not to be missed.

What wonderful “wedding cake”, it was exactly what we wanted. A queue immediatly formed and the cake disappeared! Everyone loved the it - Ballater creme - excellent! Thank you Shorty!

A wonderful choice of ice creams and sorbets. It is difficult to choose. Generous helpings in either cones or cups to enjoy on a bench on the green.

Had the 6 scoop option - vanilla, mango, butterscotch, cherry, chocolate and mint with chocolate chips- excellent. More than enough for 4 people.

Title sums up everything about Shorty’s ice cream, it is the best I have ever had, very generous portions, too many delicious flavours to choose from. Superb.

What can we say, fantastic service, fantastic ice creams, multiple flavours to choose from. Having been before when we have stayed in Ballater, we emailed an order in advance to collect enroute home from Aberdeen adding an extra 2 hours to our journey home that's how worth a visit it is.

Stayed the weekend in Ballater and discovered a truely exceptional ice cream parlour. Great range of flavours and interesting range of waffles, hot cakes and smoothies that cater for people with dietary issues so no excuse for missing out. Open into the evening and portion size is generous so think twice about the three scoop option, just come back again the next day to taste the flavour you missed out on. Ice cream is made on the premises and is some how frozen yet soft at the same time, no idea how they manage it but it makes it very yummy. Dogs are allowed into the shop so no hanging around on the pavement while your partner guesses what you might like. Well worth a trip from Aberdeen or the surrounding area just for the ice cream. The ice cream cake sounds like an interesting option to try in the future for a celebration event. Great business worth supporting. Remember it's never too cold for an ice cream especially in the NE of Scotland.

Warm day in Ballater so we decided to go for ice cream. We ordered two sundaes and certainly got our moneys worth with it! My partner ordered a cookie sundae and I ordered a hot fudge sundae! Quite sickening but definitely worth it. Service was a little slow, but it was quite busy in the village and the shop was full.

If only all High streets sported an ice cream parlour of such quality and value, Clean, bright , helpful and above all Ice Cream to really enjoy, Just superb

Well what a find for my coeliac daughter and a real treat. Gluten free waffles, donuts, chocolate brownies and I'm sure there were some others. Waffles were freshly made served with ice cream, Nutella and fresh strawberries. A very good selection of ice creams and cones along with all the trimmings.

This shop sells lovely ice cream.....unfortunately I don’t seem to be able to visit Ballater without buying one.

Had ice cream today good choice of flavours served in waffle cones. Had a single scoop which I felt was good value for money considering the server fills the cone first. Would certainly return 👌🍦

Ooooooh, where to begin... good value for money as portions are pretty big, great mixture of classic flavours and lots of exotic ones to choose from. Just a pity there is not a sit-in option but hey ho still a fab place to get ice cream, milk shakes etc. If you like your ice cream you must not miss this place.

We're fortune enough to live in Ballater so visit often. Have never had a bad experience - lovely selection of delicious ice creams, with lots of extras and yummy treats. Price wise, it's very good value for money and they offer a cheap half scoop option for children, which my two love with their teddy bear cones. Portions are very generous, customer service is great, the shop is very welcoming and delightful, and they are open until later on in the day. A great place for a treat.

Very good ice cream. Our entire family was able to enjoy the treat because there were dairy free options.

My wife had the strawberry and I had cookies/cream. Highly recommended. Strawberries are grown in this part of Scotland. Very fresh.

Found this by accident! Great flavours, lovely staff. Fab village green to enjoy it outside....although with the heat the village green was a tad brown!

Amazing ice cream, Italian style and fat free frozen yogurt, with a few milk free sorbets also on offer. Service with a smile and incredible value for money. You will be making use of a well accepted post walk/ cycle recovery aid if you sample some of the amazing flavours eg wild cherry, white chocolate, butterscotch.......

The only problem you are likely to encounter here is choosing from the delicious options of cone and ice cream. A real treat on a good summers day.

Such a selection, Have now tried it 4 times so far this week. Three out of the four were fine but the banana flavour was not up to much. will have t o try a freek shake before we go home.

£9 for 5 fantastic cones with excellent service and quality ...... When we first passed by the shop was full so popped to Sheridan’s .... When we came back folk were just leaving.... by the time we ordered and paid the shop was full again!! We now know why!!

What an amazing place this is! The choice of delicious flavours is great. We had a Hot fudge Sundae, full of pieces of locally made fudge, and a fudge finger on top! There are doughnuts, sticky toffee pudding. Fantastic. Well worth more than one visit.

Just in Ballater for three days training and called in at Shortys for a Sundae. I have had many an ice cream in Italy over the last three years and this ice cream compares with the best of them. I’ll be back to try other flavours before I’m finished here.

This is a smart shop selling a decent and innovative selection of good ice cream. Service is friendly and the prices reasonable. Nothing not to like really!

Staying nearby for the week we had two trips to this ice cream shop. At first we thought £2 a scoop on the high side but the portion is generous and you need not to worry about your cals if considering two! Friendly staff and we were please Ballater now has a very good ice cream outlet.

Popped in for a take away coffee and an ice cream. Great friendly service and wonderful ice cream. No wonder my waistline is expanding. 5 stars from me!

When I visited Ballater I always went to the candy shop for ice cream. I think in recent years it must have changed hands, as the ice cream is certainly not the same. I have visited Shortys a couple of times now and this is the best in both Ballater and indeed Deeside. Coconut, white chocolate, vanilla.... all to die for! Visiting Ballater during a cold October day and having Ice Cream says it all! A must try.... and trust me, it won’t be once only!

The parlour is in a great central location on a corner, on the main street, across from the Church. The interiors spotless. It has a fantastic range of flavours of icecream which change regularly. There's cones or larger sundaes available all at a very reasonable price and when we said some was for our two dogs the girl serving said they had special small £1 tubs for dogs which came adorned with a bone. Needless to say the dogs loved these. Those who are worried about their diet there's also lower fat options. The girl who served us was very pleasant and helpful. I would highly recommend visiting this shop...go on treat yourselves.

We finally made it to Shorty's near the end of our stay in Ballater, and boy do we wish we'd stopped by sooner. The ice cream was great quality and the favors were really well created. We waited out a short rain while enjoying our cones and had a really fun conversation with the gals working there. In the likely event we ever return to Ballater, we'll certainly return to Shorty's.

Nice girls with good manners and easy going natures. However, the ice cream couldn't be described as luxury. It's okay. However, it is good to see the corner shop being used so go in and try for yourself.

My mom and I decided to have an ice cream at Shortys, despite the rain outside. It was divine. They let us sit in their window ledge until the rain stopped.

Just wow! The selection and quality of the ice cream in this parlour is wonderful. Selection changes daily which means that you never tire of visiting this place. Now that's not necessarily a good thing as the flavours are so tempting. They are clearly aware of this as low fat options are also offered. Prices are low. £2 for 1 scoop (which seems to be 2 scoops) and the sundaes (which are huge) are only £3.50 and are, of course, packed with fruit or chocolate etc depending on your choice. If you're in Ballater, don't miss Shorty's! You'll not regret it.

My husband and I tried this ice-cream parlour when we were in Ballater in July, and I have to say that the ice-cream is excellent. Some really unusual flavours and so delicious, so much so that we tried it more than once (but I'm not saying how many times!) Try the white chocolate ice-cream, the banana or the butterscotch - yum ! Don't pass it by - you wont be disappointed !

Went here at the weekend after being at burn of vat. 4 o clock on a Sunday afternoon and what a great ice cream it was. Good value with 2 scoops for only £3. Lots of choice and everyone enjoyed it.

We called on Shorty's one very warm day when visiting Ballater. The ice cream choices were excellent and the staff exuded warmth and friendliness. We were introduced to the owner who made these ices. She is a genuine enthusiast with a great passion for her product. Her innovation is to be congratulated and encouraged.. We will certainly return to Shorty's.
