Shoboraj in Newport

Sadly will never visit here again, never experienced such rudeness in my life, service was absolutely shocking after being sat down and had to wait nearly 25 mins to have a order taken while they wasn’t busy and stood talking, they even spoke in Bengali about how we are waiting lucky the my partner who is Bengali understood and she translated, when we asked for water they brought me a large glass and then my partner a smaller glass and disregarded her yet every other couple in the restaurant and table had the same size glass and had a much more friendly and personal service, the way they kept staring at us all night made us feel extremely awkward and unsettling. At the end of the day it’s a modern age in a multicultural society and any culture and any two people can be together. no one should experience the level of racism we had, then when ordering food my partner wanted more rice and they simply replied to her “you don’t need that love” so I ordered the same thing right away and they replied “yes sir no worries” I was absolutely disgusted. I have eaten here for 10 years and always been greeted with friendly atmosphere but really gone down hill and sadly they bring culture between their customer service. No one did they thank for the custom but couldn’t get us out the door quick enough. We generally rather them say we wasn’t welcome than make our evening unpleasant and uncomfortable. Will never visit again I hope they close down and learn that they can’t treat people this way, they should keep culture and personal views out the workplace especially when we are in a Morden age where it’s normal for multicultural people to be together.

Family get together, couldn't have chosen a better place. Gorgeous meals.

Great place to visit, fantastic food, great staff

Best curry house in Newport. Food is delicious, cooked fresh and great flavour. All the staff are so helpful and on the ball. Service is excellent. There were 11 of us in total and not a single thing wrong with any of our meals. Thank you again for a great meal!

Nice place, not too many people in but good food and staff were friendly. Sat without reservation, parking is available but only really at night.

Don't recall ever having a bad meal or great time.

Easy to book over the phone. We had to rearrange due to illness but the team were so kind and helpful even though they were busy as it was just before Christmas. Such a lovely place for a date night or to take family. The food was very good, plenty of each dish and the best Lamb Passanda I have had! Will definitely go back.

Really disappointed. Ordered a takeaway last night and the food was terrible. The curry itself wasn’t too bad but the chips were so dry and pale. The onion bhaji’s were the worst part, they were tiny and really dry. The same with the pakora and we also had stale poppadoms. The whole meal tasted like it had been warmed up from the day before. It was also very expensive so expected it to be nice. Will not be ordering again.

Superb. Best Indian I've been to in years. We travelled down from the valleys and were not disappointed. Will be back!

This is such a great little restaurant. We haven’t been for a while, and I don’t know why, because when we do it never fails to impress! The staff are so friendly and lovely. I couldn’t decide what I wanted tonight, so the manager took his time recommending dishes that would suit my tastes. Definitely worth a visit if you haven’t been before!

Excellent food, loads of choice and it tasted amazing. Service pretty good, but they did forget our drinks and we had to flag a waiter down to reorder. Huge down point was parking. Had to drive around a bit to find a space. Not easy in a busy area. Would put me off eating here again sadly. But glad we tried it.

First visit for myself, although my oartner has been many times before. The service was impeccable. Very delicious food along with the brilliant service made our date night one of the best so far. Thank you for serving yummy food and looking after us so well. We will be back

They very abruptly told us that they will not deviate from the menu. I asked if there were any dishes that could be made creamy and usually I’d expect the chef/waiter to discuss the options but instead the man just raises his voice “too many to list, what do you want and I’ll tell you if we can do it.” - made me feel like such a nuisance.. I told the waiter that I don’t know I don’t usually have a curry and he said “well we don’t have all day to list madam”. Another person on our table asked if they could make a certain dish spicy, waiter said “No”. Finally to top it all off the waiter knocked my diabetes device off the table and didn’t apologise or didn’t pick it up. Overall an awful experience and won’t be going back again.

Father in Law, 72nd birthday, so we went here (not for the 1st time) for a family gathering (14 of us). Excellent food and service. I had the Shahi Thali consisting of tikka masala, lamb with spinach, vegetable curry and chicken buna with raitha, pilau rice and naan, taster meal. This did not disappoint in anyway, just like a mini buffet, possibly the best Indian restaurant I have been to, and I have been to many in Bristol. All of us really enjoyed our meals and we will return again. Thank you Sammy and the rest of the staff for a lovely evening.

The best Indian in Newport by far. Haven’t had the chance to visit for a while due to moving to Swansea but booked in with the family for a meal on the weekend and the food was outstanding as it’s always been previously. Great service within the restaurant and all the staff are very friendly and always helpful. Also have the option to order takeaway which is brilliant too! If you’re in or around Newport and want an Indian then the Shoboraj is the place to go!

Friendly from the start. Knowledgeable about diety needs. Attentive but not overbaring. The food was excellent and served in a timely manner, at a reasonable cost.

The food is really nice and freshly prepared. Portions are generous as well and customer services is absolutely spot on. Their prices are bit steep though. Normal naan bread is £4.75 and I dnt think it's reasonable.

This is an absolute shining gem of Newport dining. Every single dish was great, even the sundries were special and delicious. I'm surprised we could just walk in on a Thu eve and didn't need a booking with the food quality. The staff was amazing too, you can really tell they like this place and are proud of the food they serve. This was a spontaneous dinner out a few weeks ago. Came here after a long break from curry being discouraged by previous questionable food experiences in Newport. It's not just curry but other top rated restaurants that are quite disappointing. People here settle for questionable quality of food as they have no other options... please people stop settling for bad food and give feedback so establishments have a chance to improve. Sayings that Shoboraj you're doing a great job and keep going at this level <3

Out of this world! From the moment we walked in and were greeted to the last second of leaving the front of house, waiters and staff you couldn't had wished for more. Polite, friendly, attentive and just really nice people. The food was to die for. Freshly cooked, tasty, and plenty of it. Great value for money. Definitely will be returning in the near future. They have been trading for 35 years so here's to the next 35! Brilliant restaurant and can't recommend it enough.

Ate here on a Tuesday. Never been before but we're staying local to the area. Didn't book, restaurant (which is relatively small) was full so we waited for a table for 10min. Decided to eat here as the reviews were good and I can confirm the food was lovely aka lush. There were three of us and the quality of the dishes was very high. Service from all staff was polite and efficient and I would recommend this family run restaurant to anyone that enjoys a quality indian/Bangladesh meal. Recommended

From the moment you walk through the door you feel the warmth of the welcome by staff intent on giving you the best dining experience. The menu is expansive with the best of Bangladeshi cuisine. We were lucky that Sunny was there to help us in our choices of starter and main courses, all served beautifully presented and piping hot. I can't recommend enough that you try this restaurant. Superb food and polite and courteous staff. Make sure to book as you'd hate to be disappointed.

Such a lovely couple of hours at the Shoboraj. We booked last-minute on a Saturday and were fortunate to get a table. The staff are the most polite and friendly people I have ever been served by in a restaurant. Nothing was too much trouble...

Love the Shoboraj. I think it's the best Indian restaurant in Newport. They treat u like royalty if you go in. Impeccable service. However, i use them more frequently as a take out service. The only thing is.. they are very expensive for takeaway.. its worth it.. but it is expensive - also, used to get free onion salad and mint sauce.. that doesn't happen anymore :( but I do get the COL crisis driven prices up everywhere so we will allow it lol 🙃 👍

We ordered take out for delivery which arrived in good time and we enjoyed an excellent high quality meal. The Lamb Bhuna was beautifully cooked and flavourful and the chicken jalfrezi was one of the best my partner has ever had. I liked that the mint sauce was not bright green and a paler cool minty creamy sauce. We will definitely order again and plan to eat in their lovely restaurant in the near future.

Just had an incredible meal here, the staff were amazing nothing was too much trouble, super friendly especially with children. Food was delicious 10 out of 10. Would highly recommend this place and we will definitely be back next week hopefully.

Been coming here for some years. Whether it’s takeaway or dining in it’s got to be my favourite Indian restaurant. The food is stunning, the beer well kept and most of all the staff don’t make you feel like just another customer but a friend.

Had a menu posted through door this morning and noticed they had won awards so decided to give them a try. Ordered delivery and it arrived within 30 minutes nice and hot. Food was absolutely amazing, full of flavour, cooked to perfection, our best Indian curry in months and will definitely be our regular from now on. Definitely recommend

Took my family to the SHBORAJI the other week & did not regret it. A warm, welcoming family run restaurant, with just the right balance to create a cozy atmosphere. The food & tableware were exquisite, the staff friendly & helpful. Well recommended ! Only problem is the parking but wasn't an issue for us ! Thanks everyone
