We asked what can be made vegan in the menu and the staff were very helpful and cooked us options without ghee. The portions were very generous and the food was very tasty.

Staying in Scotland for just a couple of nights and fancied a curry. It was my partner’s birthday so we decided to try here as it was local. Have to say the service was great and I had sag aloo and was the best I’d ever had . Couldn’t eat it all ( portions are massive) so they packed it up for me and will look forward to it tomorrow night.

The food was amazing. I had chicken tandoori madras and my partner had lamb tandoori south Indian. Very spicy but very tasty. Staff very friendly.

Lovely meal on every visit, great service and worth a visit to Beauly. Very busy with takeaways, so it’s popular locally. Pre-book if you want a table during peak times.

Food was very tasty , hot and all fresh produce. Would definately recommend a visit if you are staying in Beauly. Don’t be put off if the restaurant looks quiet inside.

We were staying in Beauly and fancied a curry. We asked a few locals about Shimla and they all said they had never heard a bad word about it, so we went in. When you go to an Indian restaurant for the first time you always wonder how hot their dishes are compared to what you like, but we were very pleased with our meals. Having lived in Birmingham and experienced a lot of different restaurants we can honestly say that Shimla is right up there with the best. It was a Tuesday night in October, there weren't that many people eating in the restaurant but they seemed to be doing a brisk trade in takeaways. We shared a mixed kebab starter which was excellent. My husband then had a lamb rogan josh. I asked the waiter for some guidance as I don't like too much heat. I settled on the chicken Chom Chom Bahar...it was possibly the best dish I have ever eaten. The naan was fantastic (often they go like cardboard as they cool, this one didn't) and the mushroom rice was excellent too. The price was quite reasonable too, we had 2 large glasses of wine, a shared large starter, 2 mains, one rice, one naan and 2 hot drinks. The total was under £30 a head. We found the staff to be attentive and friendly but not pushy. If we ever find ourselves in the area in the future, we will be back!

100% would recommend. One of the best Indian meals we've ever had. The flavours were beautiful, chicken and lamb were very tender. The level of spicing was spot on. A must try if you are in the area. You will not be disappointed.

A great restaurant in a small village that we stopped in on our first stop on the NC500. Food was great price point wasn’t too bad and the service was great would definitely visit again if we come to the area again

Ate here last week. The food was really nice but we felt they couldn't wait to get rid of us. We were constantly interrupted by several members of staff asking if we'd finished. We were not taking long over our food and didn't arrive late. It really spoiled the meal.

Great meal out, Good tasty meals, piping hot on hot plates, good portions, friendly staff. Accidently left our debit card on bar counter, it was returned to us immediately by the waiter.

I’m not a great Indian food eater but was with a group of mates (7 in total) and they wanted to go so I tagged along. The meal was really nice, reasonably priced and the staff were very attentive and pleasant.

Once again the food and service is spot on, a must try is the lamp tandoori dishes as the lamp is melt in the month. The restaurant also does a craft beer from Cromarty brewery the happy chappie which is excellent

An excellent meal for 4. 3 meat eaters and one veggie. Food of very high standard. No bowl of sauce and 3 token pieces of precooked meat here!! Each dish ram packed with excellent prepared meat or veg where you can taste individual spices. Too...

Hands down the best Indian meal I’ve ever had. Fish pakora to start and chicken tikka for main/ partner had South Indian garlic chilli. Both dishes were absolutely beautiful. Huge portions, we couldn’t finish them. The service was fantastic, the server was so helpful and polite and the chef made the effort to come and check everything was to our liking.

I rang & booked a table for 2 for 1900hrs on same day.We were very warmly welcomed to this fine restaurant by the owner, we assume. Nothing too much trouble, we ordered chilled, crisp bottle of wine and while munching on poppadoms perused the delightful menu. My husband & I made our choices,which arrived delightfully presented, courteous and enjoyable service.Our main courses, were undeniably tasty, zingy and satisfying. Portions were more than we could manage, truly!!Almost embarrassed, but never the less we asked if they could box & ship with forks, for us both to enjoy after golf⛳tomorrow morning:and do justice to the wonderful flavours and ingredients used to conjure up such delights.We left with our treasured bundle & look forward to finishing it tomorrow!

This is an excellent indian restaurant in this unexpected location. I had visited twice before and have never been disappointed. A really varied menu waits with many dishes you will not find in city establishments. My fotos tell the tale of an evening of spicy delights. Staff are amazing and service is swift. Well worth a visit.You cannot miss its location on main st.

A nice curry and a tasty tandoori chicken. Sadly let down by a lack of attention to Covid awareness. The young waitress was wearing a mask but the two other more senior waiters were not. There was no sign of deep cleaning. Cutlery was out on tables, rather than being brought out as required. Diners seemed to be kept in the window area rather than spread out across the restaurant.Disappointing because the food was good.

Recommended by owners of our holiday cottage and we were not disappointed. Staff very attentive without being intrusive - and obviously being mindful of Covid-19 safety. Good range of options on the menu - chicken dhansak particularly good. Restaurant relatively busy mid-week given restriction on number of tables available for use - but number of takeaway orders being collected suggests popular local food stop. Would use again.

Always guaranteed a very friendly welcome, and the curries are pretty tasty too! Honestly can’t fault this lovely restaurant or the food. Highly recommend to anyone passing through the Highlands!

Had our take away delivered to our rental property and when ordering we were told it would take about 40 minutes but it arrived before that. Food was very good, couldn’t fault it at all. Would definitely go back...

Was treated by family to a take away,having stayed in a holiday cottage next door.Ordered our takeaway.I had fish pakora as starter which consisted of 5 lovely pieces of fish like goujons then I tried a main of Rasam chicken which was highly recommended,which it was.my husband had Jaipur chicken,with so many chicken pieces,he couldn’t finish it.Excellent

What a fantastic find. Delicious selection of curries, would highly recommend the shahee pilau rice. Excellent customer service , would definitely go back.

We zijn een paar keer in het restaurant wezen eten en daaruit mag je al concluderen dat het eten goed was. Ook over de bediening hadden we geen reden tot klagen...De laatste keer dat we er waren, maakten zowel mijn partner als ik gebruik van de toiletten. Daarvoor moet je die een deel van wat vroeger ook eens restaurant was, maar waarvan de vloer nu vol staat met emmers om het regenwater van een daklekkage op te vangen.De toiletten waren de smerigste die ik tot nu toe gezien heb. Het was duidelijk dat hier al heel lang niet meer gepoetst was, als er na opening al eens ooit gepoetst was! Ik kreeg in ieder geval geen hap meer door mijn keel en we zijn er dan ook weggegaan om nooit meer terug te keren!

I dined here on Saturday night. The best curry I ever had in my life. Was superb. The combination of taste and freshly cooked meats was to die for. Our waiter Ayshuk Was such a nice boy. Worth his wait in gold really knows how to run a place. If in area must try absolutely spectacular.

Booked Shimla restaurant for family meal. Welcomed by Ali took us to back dining room for more space as we had wheelchair user.Got drinks including “happy chippy lager”,more a beer.Food was beautiful,I had fish pakora,huge portion.In general portions big, nans huge,but flavour good. Little short older guy that was waiter quite a “character”.We asked for doggy bags as portions too much which they kindly obligedOnly problem we had was in payment,no WiFi to work card machine so everyone had to go out and down street to get cash machine. Otherwise excellent,very pleasant meal.

Last night of holiday and decided to have a takeaway. Went to Shimla Indian in Beauly. Very busy restaurant which was a good sign and lots of people coming in for takeaways as well. Food was brilliant totally recommend it if in the area.

We had dinner at the restaurant on Aug 2019. A large variety of Indian food, me and my wife liked it very much, the children a bit less. But - the taste was really good !

I lived near Beauly for about 25 years and always found Shimla consistently good. Having moved away I hadn’t been in for several years but visited last night with two friends who live locally and who rate Shimla very highly. We had a fantastic evening, service was friendly and attentive and I was immediately advised that my starter and main would take longer and approx how long that would be. I opted for the fish pakora and it was absolutely delicious, tasty pieces of salmon coated in the lightest, crispest batter imaginable. My friends’ onion bhaji and onion pakora were declared equally good. There was very little delay for our mains and all three were delicious. I had the chicken stuffed with king prawn, a new dish for me and I’d definitely go for it again. Delicious sauce and not too much if it. We shared a kulcha naan which was a huge hit, full of flavour and so light. The restaurant got very busy but the service remained spot on. I’m going travelling now but am looking forward to revisiting Shimla when I return!

We tried a takeaway whilst on holiday in the area. We were very impressed, curries were delicious, well presented and packaged. Waiter helpful and it was ready in 15 mins. Definitely worth try if in the area.

We are staying for 2 nights in Beauly and decided to eat the first night at Shimla. It was such a good choice that we have made a reservation for the second night. We had the Rogan Josh and the garlic masala, both with chicken, also a good garlic naan and some pilau rice. All very good. Tomorrow we are going to try the tandoori.

Didn't have high expectations in a relatively out of the way spot in the highlands - completely confounded! Really rather good with well judged and well spiced food. Recommended.

The restaurant was most accommodating finding place for us when we had not booked and the service was great. The meal was just ok our curries were sadly not going to set the heather alight even though they were rather hot!

Having eaten here previously on numerous ocassions playing the "hit or a miss" game trying to gauge which chef is on duty over the course of year,I'd written the place off and given the benefit of the doubt as to when I should write a review, im glad I withheld because whoever the chef is now clearly has knowledge and passion and he obviously can cook a decent curry or two,I had the chicken tikka Jaipur with Pilau rice and the last visit had the chicken tikka South Indian Garlic Chilli curry and both to be honest couldn't be faulted,good curry,good heat in the South Indian curry and a fair sized portion ,had the garlic naan on both ocassions which to be honest is small due to them having what must be a small clay oven or hotplate,but over all a very good curry and very pleasant staff.Will definitely be returning.

Went in and was greeted by the lovely staff, then we ordered our food for takeaway, after chatting to the very polite guys for a bit we mentioned that my little brother use to work there, everything went from 10/10 to 100/10! Not only were they so sweet about him and spoke highly, they made sure we felt super welcome ♥️ The food was absolutely amazing as always, service was nice and quick ♥️ Cannot wait to come back again!

Everyone i had spoken to raved about how great Shimla was, alas this was not how my experience went. The staff we're nice and offered good customer service however the food was bland and our sauce's were very wattery. I thought it over priced too at an average of £20 for a main sauce and rice. Afraid i will not visit again.

Could not fault the service or food it was excellent. We ordered chicken tikka masala and the house special lamb tikka tiger..... both dishes were delicious.

A takeaway in Fort William took first place in the worst curry ever awards, this was a close second. Ordered a takeaway from this restaurant having moved recently to Beauly. The mixed pakora was swimming in oil, as was the mushroom fried rice and both main course curries. Each of the curries had chicken tikka but different sauces, both were as tasteless as each other with not a hint of heat despite being described as of medium strength and highly recommended by the chef. The chapattis were undercooked and the naan bread dry. The addition of the stale poppadoms was a stretch too far and the entire was boxed up and returned with a request for a full refund. This may have been a bad night at the office for the chef, we’ve all had one of those however he shouldn’t have let such a disaster of a meal leave his kitchen.

Forgot how wonderful this place is. Staff are kind and attentive, ambiance good (real Indian music), comfortable banquette-style seating which lends intimacy - and the food was WONDERFUL! Many dishes I had never seen before, and what we ordered was first class - hot, fresh and plentiful

We found the menu whilst staying in a holiday cottage. What a find. Absolutely delicious, mouth watering foods. The menu isn't big but still something for everyone. Good priced too.

Went here early evening with my wife and daughter, We were given a warm welcome and allocated a table. The staff were all friendly and helpful, Food was very nice with good vegetarian options. Easy car parking nearby.

This restaurant is better than all the Indian restaurants in Inverness. Some of the Inverness ones seem to had sugar to everything and the currys can be sweet. Not for us. How many have scallops and salmon dishes among their starters? My wife had the scallops last Saturday and they were stunning. They also have a number of speciality dishes including a lovely venison curry for a mains. We have been going here for a number of years and have never had a bad meal. The food is so tasty and full of flavour. Staff are always very welcoming. Can't fault it. Looking forward to going back soon.

This evening at about 4.52 we called for a Chicken Tikka Masala and a Chicken Korma my Chicken Tikka Masala was very chewy and watery My partner and I have been before and it's been okay but this was absolutely disgusting I ate my rice but left the chicken not impressed...

The restaurant was quiet which was delightful. The gentleman taking our order was very polite and all staff were pleasant. The food was the tastiest Indian cuisine we have had. It is a finalist in the Highland Curry House competition and we can see why!

Les autres restaurants que j'avais vus sur Beauly étant fermés ou complets, je me retourve dans ce restaurant indien comme on en voit partout en Angleterre...un certain charme suranné (serveurs en costumes) et un serveur un peu trop "serviable"!

A great find in central Beauly albeit a bit old fashioned. We had a lovely meal at this restaurant. Chicken Passanda was excellent.

Had some very nice curries here all of the flavours were very good indeed. The only reason this is not a 5* is that the quality of the lamb, whilst being ok, was not as good as you usually get in a curry house. Would come here again and get more chicken dishes.

We (two of us) had visited the restaurant for dinner. We ordered naan breads, dhal and mixed vegetable dish. The naan (chilly coriander and the garlic) were soft, fluffy and excellent. The other dishes were tasty.

have been in the Shimla three times now and getting to know the spice levels. The food has been altered to meet the more delicate western palate and if you like spicy food go up a level to what you normally eat and it is a better experience. Happy to take a variety of friends there being confident that everyone can find something to their liking. Clean surroundings and pleasant attentive staff make eating there a delight.

Rude and abrupt service. Wanted to share main dish with my wife, and was told ‘we don’t normally do that, and we are rather busy’. Not that busy- two empty tables near us the whole time we were there. Wouldn’t have minded, but chef’s specialty Rasam was lacklustre and not particularly tasty. Complained to manager, who was sympathetic and promised to speak to waiter.

We regularly go here for a curry and it is usually quite good. But this time it was so bad I actually walked out. The staff were helpful but the food was just terrible quality. I won't be going back.

After a busy day at a local show my partner wanted a decent meal, I decided I would just have a starter as it was late. When the waiter took our order I explained I wanted my starter along with my partners main, this didn’t seem a problem. He took half a drinks order, he walked off before my partner got a chance to order his drink. The drink never arrived so we went to the bar to complain. Then all the food we ordered came out at once. The pakoras were over cooked and served with no sauces, the chicken tikka was not as expected and serving size was small and the naan bread was cold. None of the front of house staff seemed to know what they were doing. When our plates were cleared the waiter asked how it was, I had left 2 of the 4 pakora, so I said they were over cooked. He then picked one up to inspected and said ‘oh, maybe next time’. I’m sorry but there won’t be a next time.

We enjoy a good Indian meal once a week so, being in the area, we gave Shimla a try.

Fantastic service and prompt delivery. The meals were cooked to perfection and all the dishes we had were wonderful. The chasni was brilliant and the tender lamb just fell appart but had a full flavour and tasted Devine! The restaurant staff were polite and attentive but not in your face and the service we recieved on our subsequent visits was always of the highest standard. They even changed one of the dishes to suit my daughters taste. Wonderful experience and a winner for us again and again.

A wide range of dishes is available, and the service was fast and friendly. A very pleasant place to spend an evening. Highly recommended.

Staff were great when we went for family meal with a two year old and three year old in tow! Meal was lovely although warning the coconut rice is more like a pudding as full of sugar! Service was very good. In retrospect think I'd buy the kids the ice-cream first so we could get peace to eat our main... No reflection on restaurant purely reflecting on my restless grandkids! Apologies for the rice explosion left by two year old but she did love the curry!

Popped in on the fly and got a table for two no probs. Waiter promptly asked whether we'd like drinks and poppadoms and brought them over pretty quickly. Menu looks good and we tried two starters and mains. Starters were ok/nothing to shout home about yet my venison from my mixed kebab dish was chewy. The mains looked the same and nigh on tasted the same....quite bland and certainly not bursting with flavour. Overall verdict.....will go to Inverness next time......probably to Sam's

Speisekarte aber überzeugend, so dass wir einen Versuch wagten, derweil das Restaurant auch von unserer Vermieterin genannt wurde! Als Vorspeise wurde Papadam mit 4 Soßen vom Kellner empfohlen. Geschmack durchschnittlich! Als Apperitv nahmen wir Gin Tonic, üblicherweise wird Tonic separat serviert, welcher Gin gereicht wurde ? Das lokale Bier ausgezeichnet, in der Karte mit Happy xy bezeichnet! Wir hatten : Das Chicken Tandori, Fleisch sehr trocken, Soße ok ; Lentils mit Garlic, wobei es von der Konsistenz eher an einer Soße orientiert war. Dazu gebratener Reis und Garlic Nam. Als Nachspeise ein Mangoeisparfait. Nun ja! Service war schnell und aufmerksam, Rechung kam ungefragt ! Das Restaurant war gut besucht, wohl auch viele Stammgäste. Zusammenfassend würde ich sagen, wir waren nicht voll befriedigt beim Hinausgehen, aber es spricht sicher auch nichts gegen einen Besuch, derweil man auf der Karte sicher eine bessere Wahl treffen kann! Die Atmosphäre im Lokal war ganz nett und es war adrett.

We live localish but had never tried here. Went for dinner last night and it was lovely. Only downside was a pint of coke is £3.95. Apart from that, cracking food, service etc.

This place I found by chance as I drove by the door. The food was good, the service was good, I had no complaints about anything.

We dined here on a weekday but there were other diners which is always a good sign. I chose the chicken shatkora, and my husband had a dish which was supposed to have a mixture of meat and prawns: he asked if the prawns could be omitted and this was not a problem. Both dishes were nicely spicy and really delicious. The staff were attentive, efficient and friendly and the whole meal was most enjoyable.

Went here with friends from India, waiting staff took starter order then repeatedly came and asked whet we wanted for main courses but we wanted to try more starters, very unhelpful when asked what dishes were on menu,didn’t have a clue.chicken tikka pieces were all same shape and very bland, strange!!! Would be less if I could than 1 if I could. I Phoned 2 hours before I had people coming round for dinner to check I could get a delivery was told that would be no problem. When I phoned to place my order for 8 people I had round for dinner was told they weren’t doing deliveries, when I explained that I had phoned previously I was told sorry we are too busy. So disappointing considering I had even phoned beforehand to check. Won’t be ordering again. Thankfully an Inverness based Indian have said they will deliver, very handy to know!!

We have been eating at this restaurant (take away or sit in) for over 15 yrs on an occasional basis. This time we ordered a large takeaway order (for 8 people). All cooked in 30 minutes, 10% discount for cash. All the food was very tasty and well priced. We know of many friends who regularly travel from Inverness to Shimla to eat - we can understand why!

A nice surprise as we expected it to be good, but this was outstandingly good. Friendly, warm and efficient service coupled with an extensive menu and really great food. Pricing was reasonable and the staff couldn't do enough to help. Highly recommended, a real gem. Lots of free parking in the village square, which is just outside.

Visited Shimla with family towards the end of March. I jokingly remarked that the sign of a good restaurant was whether it was busy or not, initially, I guess as it was a Tuesday we were the only ones there but it soon started to fill.

Four of us celebrated a birthday here on a sunday evening. Good service. We had a range of starters (all good) then a selection of naan, rice and dishes from a chicken jaipuir, a chicken tilka garlic masala, a korai and another dish?!? All really enjoyed our meal, sensible portions and polite good attentive staff.
