Sherpa Kitchen in Elmbridge

We had an amazing night. It was a birthday celebration and we really enjoyed it. The food was delicious and exceptional. The staff were so hospitable and welcoming. I would like to thank Shekhar for looking after us.

Tucked away opposite Waitrose on the High Street I enjoyed my first visit to this small, intimate Nepalese Restaurant. Potato cakes to start and an excellent Methi Prawn for the main. Glad I saved some room for the excellent carrot cake dessert. Polite service and excellent Gurka Beer. Enjoy!

The staff were fantastic and all the food was great. This is a little gem in Esher and very reasonably priced. We will definitely be back

Had drinks here with my friend on a Friday night and it was reallyyyy fun. Loved the cocktails and the music too. They didn’t have a dj on that particular day but it still had a really great vibe regardless. They also played afrobeats which was a plus for me!

Great place in terms of going out on a weekend but it’s a bit of hit and miss. Can be busy or can be very quiet. Staff are very polite and friendly. Service is great but DJ could go better with the music!

Ordered online and seriously disappointing. Firstly, portions way too small for the price Secondly, zero seasoning to rice & noodles. Flavourless Lastly, the hot & sour sauce which was 8.50!!! Is disgusting. Just do normal sweet & sour. It was awful!

We ordered via Just eat. Butter Paneer cost me £13.95 And d we received a tub full of gravy with 7 pieces measuring approximately 1.5cm cubes. No Value for the money. Very disappointed. Ordered from here multiple times before. Lamb chops used to be 3, now serving 2.

Food was slow due to short staffing but on a Saturday was a bit frustrating. We had a sharing platter buffet for a Christmas do and the food was ridiculously overpriced for what was given. Drinks are a bit pricey, can expect free pouring and thr odd free drink if you make friends with the owner/manager

Had a Christmas evening meal with large group. Atmosphere ok, drinks expensive, food service fractured as dishes arrived at a slow rate. In all a very expensive evening for what was an average meal £130 per head. Merry Christmas.

Ordered take away through PH, previously had been great. Dishes not as described. Chicken tikka was not chicken breast as described and looked like it was cooked in water and not a clay oven. The chicken tikka had no sauce, again not as described and again used chicken thigh. The only thing edible was the rice. I called the restaurant and they said we will let the management know. This is not how you run a restaurant.

Had food tonight in this place Nash served us food was brilliant. Would rate it 10 out of 10. Thanks for your service deafly would recommend and I will be coming back

Myself and my husband ate here last night for the first time and it was amazing, the food was excellent and the staff were lovely especially Nash very friendly, we felt really relaxed to enjoy a lovely meal will definitely be going back

Fantastic quality Nepalese food with attentive service. Very good value too. Highly recommended the Prawn Asworya and a Gurkha beer! I always try and visit when I am in the area!

Wonderful food excellent service Small intimate restaurant. Abundance of flavours with the spices used. Parking easy as car park not far away . Also prices are very affordable.

As of the previous review left I can say that is complete rubbish. I was on a night out with the company I work with for a summer works do. I go to the pounding heart quite a lot in my own time and messaged a doormen I know there 30 minutes before arriving explaining one colleague had a service dog ( in training) and would it be possible to have him join us and have an area closed for us to enjoy the night all together. The doormen arranged this with management and we was very greatful as they allowed us in an area that would normally be closed at 11pm which we was allowed to stay in until 1am. We was treated like royalty. Staff was amazing and accommodating even though his dog wasn’t being particularly well behaved. In my opinion there is nothing more the establishment could have done for us to have an amazing night. Many thanks, Jack Laxton

Came here for a friend’s birthday for cocktails and dinner and really enjoyed it. We arrived just after happy hour had finished but had called ahead and Ajay very kindly extended the offer for us to enjoy some of the fab Margaritas. Food was amazing (we chose mostly from the Indian selection). Ajay was a friendly and hospitable host and we will be back to try a few more dishes and cocktails!

I went to this restaurant for the first time last night, and initially it was great. Waiters/Waitresses were very friendly and one of the guys was very funny. I ordered the Mai Tai cocktail which was absolutely fantastic and the wine was apparently great as well. Starters arrived, genuinely some of the best Indian/Chinese starters I’ve had in a while - my only complaint with this place was honestly the mains; we had the chilli chicken, and ordered two of the other stir fries. The food was nice, but far too sweet. All 4 dishes we felt had been sweetened too much, which while it didn’t bother me and my brother too much, really put my parents off (who I came with). Overall, lovely place which despite having a big menu does have good food, a good atmosphere and good staff. The main food just needs to be less sweet. Thanks for a great night

Went in normally. Ordered a redbull with no ice. Staff very friendly, service is phenominal. Will certainly return. Would 150% reccomend to anyone who wants food and drinks. One of the best places in esher for food, drinks, and reunions. Love it.

We had a super evening, the food was delicious and the cocktails are fabulous. Ajay is great and I am really looking forward to going again soon, highly recommend.

Have reviewed before some years ago but have to say that the food and service is as good as ever. The food is deliciously but not over spiced and we can recommend in particular the "Chuli" dishes on the menu.

Ajay and all the team were absolutely amazing from start to finish and couldn't of been more accommodating. I booked a table/area for my friends birthday, there was 12 of us and we were well looked after. Cocktails were amazing, Dj was brilliant, atmosphere great. Definitely coming back to try the food. I last visited this restaurant many years ago. My wife was alive at the time and she thought the food at that time I was not of a high standard. As a result we never went back. I decided to see whether she was wrong and I went with another person to try it out. On entering the waiter was very pleasant we decided to live the menu to him. These are the dishes he chose. Chicken Khursani, Piro Lamb,Dhali Bluenta, Rashijlio Bhagwan, Plain Poppadum, He chose the Pinot Grigio and the cuvee Blanc And for the desert Sherpa special honey and ginger. Late Friday evening visit, after frequenting a micro-pub in Claygate, with two local mates. Both staff members were very pleasant and fastidious. Didn’t eat myself - merely had a bottle of the very nice Katmandu beer, whilst the others had Piro Lamb x2, Chicken Noodles and Naan breads. Good as always.

I NEVER complain in restaurants and hate to make a fuss, so this was first. I had to send food back because it was heated unevenly (tasted like they had put it in the microwave). Service was friendly but so slow. We had to wait 45 minutes to get our food, which was cold. Cocktails were expensive too. Has the atmosphere of a club, but it trying to be a fancy restaurant which serves Chinese and also Indian food. They should just do one thing and do it well. Interior felt tacky.

Got a take away from Deliveroo! So disappointing this restaurant was one of my favourites & would get weekly take aways! Chef must have changed. My favourite Prawn Ashworya totally different sauce -darker in colour and pretty tasteless. Lamb noodles -dry / huge chunks of peppers & bitter cabbage.

Great venue. Fabulous waiting staff. Sensible and friendly security staff. I attended a 30th birthday party and we had cocktails and a chinese set menu. Food was an abundant feast and top quality, certainly in keeping with other restaurants/venues in Esher who are well known for their good reputation. The set menu was £39 per person and I thought that was very good value given the quality of the food, service and venue. I highly recommend you visit.

Wonderful Cocktail Bar. The atmosphere is absolutely amazing. Staff is very profession and welcoming form the moment you walking into the door. The cocktails are spot on, one of the best I ever had in London. Defiantly be back.

I've been going to this restaurant for almost 20 years and it's still absolutely fantastic. Great food, great value (including the wine list) and great service to boot. Potato cakes, pork dumplings and squid are essential as starters, the mooli chicken is my go to main. Beautifully cooked, with spice levels for all palates. Worth a detour as the guides say.

Popped in for a meal with a friend on a Tuesday. Lovely food cooked really well and full of flavour, very gratious and helpful host to help us choose the best things in the menu. You could see that on a Friday or Saturday night it was set up to be a great place for a social drink or dinner. We will be back. Chris and John.

The staff is always ready to help, the premises are extremely clean, the atmosphere is lovely, and the food is both delicious and beautifully presented and I would say is one of the best Nepalese restaurant in Esher.❤️ Can totally recommend it and will definitely come back again.

I have been to Pounding Heart a few times. The food and service have always been excellent. The variety of the pan-asian dishes is great. The food is freshly prepared so you have to be patient. A great experience.

I had a takeaway at this restaurant consisting of prawns for starter which were over cooked and dry served with raw onion Chicken in yoghurt and spices with dry chicken and curdled yoghurt There was no flavour whatsoever let alone any spice The Nan was hard with no garlic What a shame ! We enjoyed a meal with friends here tonight. The food was tasty and authentic. I had the lamb that began with M. I forgot the name. It was nice but not spicy at all. The lamb was tender. We also had the pork bun starter as well as the fried potato starter. Both were good. We had veg of spinach and pumpkin. The pumpkin was spicy. My husband had chicken that came on a hot plate that was absolutely sizzling. It was good food but everything came separately. Rice was separate, as was naan, poppadoms, etc. the Nepalese tea was £4.50, which seemed a bit overpriced. The hygiene rating on the door was a 3, which concerned me a bit, but I didn’t see anything that made me cringe.

Interesting menu. However, overall found it disappointing, a poor range of beers. My chicken dish, the chicken was very dry and a little disappointing. My wife found the lamb shank a little too fatty. The other thing was it was not busy, and lacked atmosphere.

We had another delicious meal at Sherpa Kitchen on Saturday evening. Despite being very full & busy, the food and service were first class. All the staff are genuine, hard-working and attentive and we were made to feel special.

Excellent takeaway consisting of Veg Noodles, a main of fish - Aduwa Machha - which was cooked superbly and had a fantastic light sauce, plus a side of Aloo Ra Bodi. Food was ordered with ease, and didn’t take long to prepare. Very good indeed...

I have eaten here lots of times and always found the service friendly and the food absolutely excellent, and this remains the case. This is a really difficult time with the coronavirus pandemic and particularly so for restaurants. I can understand why, now that lockdown has ended, they would want to make the most of things. They were offering takeaways before that and we have at least one excellent takeaway from them.But this place scares me, and despite working seeing patients face-to-face, this felt my highest risk exposure for ages. The upstairs area is poorly ventilated with a low ceiling and no obvious attempt to space tables out. It was difficult to avoid sitting very close to people you did not know. Three of the waiting staff were wearing masks incorrectly, one of them using a face visor which is of almost no value at all. Compared to places visited during recent trips to Scotland and Italy, and the way, for example, the hare and hounds in Claygate have organised themselves, this was worrying. I would rather pay more to have more spacing and better sanitary precautions.I like this restaurant and their food, but I will not be going back until we have an effective vaccine

To hose of you in Esher, you probably don't need this review. To those of you that don't know Sherpa Kitchen, this is for you.Sherpa Kitchen is the answer to those of you that are tired of your local curry house and want something new. I have not visited in over a decade and needless to say that I am I pleased with my visit,On the front of food quality I have been more than content. Whilst the quality of food is perhaps not award winning, it is easily some of the best food in Surrey. No, it won't beat that Michelin star meal you had in South London last month, but it is certainly worth consideration, and your friends will still be impressed with this gem.The staff are delightful and professional, between the warm reception for a group of young men and the confident service for a family of 4, I have felt that the Sherpa Kitchen is capable of hosting myself and my guests in any occasion. There is a genuine feel to the level of service provided that even with its faults (the first order of drinks took 25 minutes but our guests were late so not entirely the fault of Sherpa) is certainly capable of accommodating to your party. The drinks menu is perhaps short and restrictive but I would argue that you're not here for the drinks, so appreciate the Nepalese craft beers and maybe one day hope for a more inspired wine list but, overall you're not at a Nepalese curry house inSurrey for a groundbreaking wine list are you? It does the job.The menu itself forces you outside of your typical choices but allows you a sense of familiarity. If you're the type to opt for a Korma then don't worry, the Janaki Prawns are mild and sweet enough to satisfy even the least adventurous of palettes (and you can still claim to be "off piste" with your order).Overall I would say that for £35 a head for starter, main course, side and, drink in Esher that you've not only done well to enjoy a unique cuisine without visiting a chain but you will be provided with genuine wholesome service that embraces the honest reputation that Sherpa Kitchen stands for.If you overlook Sherpa Kitchen for any other reason than you want something other than Nepalese food then you have made a mistake. Sherpa Kitchen is one of those modest delights that delivers on its expectations whilst doing their best to remain a standard for independent hospitality in an ever increasingly hostile environment.This restaurant is the epitome of an unsung hero and I have perhaps been a little flattering, but in doing so I hope to highlight the true star of local restaurants that do nothing more than make good food, provide good service and make you happy with each and every visit, so I can comfortably say that I hope to see this consistency for many years to come.

Fantastic visit to the Sherpa Kitchen this evening. I really cannot fault it. Excellent fresh food with good sized portions, fantastic service and good value for money especially with the Eat Out, Help Out government scheme. One of the best meals I’ve had in a long time.

Really bad experience. They got the order wrong, but even the food that arrived was awful. We could not eat it, it was horrid. They still demanded full payment, we paid £20 of the £53 bill just to avoid a heated argument. I think this place must have changed hands - don’t go there! So rude!

We used to come here every now and again but it is small at the front and its easy to forget that it's there! It is like the tardis - much bigger inside than it appears from outside! We've been twice in the last couple of months and each time has been excellent. The food is delicious and very fresh. I'm not good with spicy food but the waiter helped me choose mild things. I had a chicken dish with cream (ra ra chicken) and the chicken was very tender. We also really enjoyed a dish with 4 different vegetable dishes, once again, full of flavour but not spicy.

We have just tried Sherpa's Takeaway Service since the COVID19 epidemic has ravaged through our world. This restaurant has always been amazing-so much so that if there was an option for more stars, they'd receive the maximum because 5 doesn't feel high enough for this place. Nearly all restaurants that offer delivery (and/or offer takeaway services) tend to disappoint in terms of quality, and never seem to be as good as when you choose to eat in the restaurant. Not Sherpa. Once again, their wizardry and magic, seductive meals exceed expectation when it comes to their takeaway service and that says a lot. This is the first time that we have gotten a takeaway that was deserved of full marks as a takeaway, and did not lose any of the amazing qualities that we always find when we eat at Sherpa Kitchen. Their attention to detail is outstanding! Even the way they choose to package the food (from sealed containers to user friendly packaging) and their hygiene practices carefully thought out, made this yet another outstanding event by this amazing restaurant! I could not recommend more highly. This pandemic has affected us all, even just from the stress of lockdown and who you may trust to make your food. We have been going to Sherpa Kitchen for years and my partner and myself felt incredibly safe ordering from them as we trust their hygiene practices 100%. The food always re-captivates the senses no matter how many times we have ordered a particular dish before. Even Michelin star restaurants can lose the magic once you've eaten them a few times but not Sherpa Kitchen. It is always mind blowing and to add to that, is always consistent. Sherpa Kitchen offers the most exotic, delicious, high quality food, and like experiencing a Michelin taste experience, isn't only capable of blowing your mind with the flavour combinations, but can repeat the process on subsequent ordering of the same dish no matter how many times you choose to order it! We have so many favourite dishes but this time ordered the Pork Masu (incredibly tender, delicious and exotic), and the Methi Chicken (sticky, thought provoking, seductive, exotic flavours) with Bhuteko rice (even the rice was incredible, fresh and tasty-I could eat a bowl of even just their rice and be happy), along with the Gulyo Roti bread (beautiful caramelised and buttery almond bread). After ordering this as a takeaway and having had all of their dishes before-and rating them the very highest marks-my partner and I felt that full marks were deserved having now had it as a takeaway. Nothing was lost and that's a first in regards to ordering a takeaway. This is unusual within itself. No Indian, Chinese, Italian takeaways have ever come delivered with full marks and always seem to lose something when ordered as a takeaway. The same is true of all takeaways from burgers to steaks to food establishments that offer the finest dining with a takeaway option. Sherpa Kitchen on the other hand has exceeded expectation entirely once again! This restaurant is a total gem and the management is also outstanding. They listen to you when you ask them a question or comment on anything at all. They will even make you something that is not listed on the menu if you are unsure of what to order. We have so many favourites from their menu and the list is huge. These are only a few reasons why Sherpa Kitchen in Esher is our favourite restaurant ever! We are foodies and love food but place Sherpa Kitchen in a class by itself. Hang in there everybody. This is a tough time we are all going through. If you haven't tried Sherpa, try it now and feel safe doing so. I can wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant, their incredible food, service, management, atmosphere and now their takeaway entirely!! This is, for me, easily, the best restaurant in Esher, which serves non-European cuisine.It’s been consistently outstanding for years - service is always exceptional and friendly, with the food always being superb.Came here with a fellow local and mate - Chicken Korshani and Bhuteko Bhat, which he had, were estimated to be excellent.My Methi Prawn, naan bread and Chayu Ko Tarkari were great.

Came here for the first time a few nights ago to celebrate our anniversary and chose it based on good reviews seen.Yes it is expensive but worth paying extra for something special. Lovely restaurant, nice intimate atmosphere, and was about half full when we visited. We thought the food was superb, I would say similar to Indian or Bangladeshi cuisine (curry dishes) but also had some Chinese influences too (noodles etc).Great service, all staff very friendly, and the food was top notch. Would definitely consider returning for a future special occasion.

We had a great meal here, the food was really excellent (try the signature lamb dish) and the ambience and service perfect. Will definitely be back.

We went back there this evening for the first time post lockdown. The flavours were amazing, all so fresh and delicious. Adapting to social distancing very well. Can I recommend Tuesday and Wednesday evenings if you want plenty of space.

After a long day, decided to get an early evening takeaway from this tremendous restaurant.For me, arguably, it is the best restaurant in Esher.Staff and service welcoming, friendly and superb.Went for a plain Nan, Lasoon Machha - superb - with an excellent Aloo Ra Bodi side dish.Excellent accompaniment to a night in, watching some TV.Excellent meal.

We went to the Sherpa Kitchen on Valentines Night. The restaurant was busy but we weren’t expecting to wait an hour and ten minutes for our food. No apology was offered for the long wait. The food when it finally arrived was average (lamb was dry and a main course with only 4 prawns). We so wanted to like the Sherpa Kitchen but it disappointed so we don’t plan to go back.

A great meal out - I had a spicy lamb dish with lovely rich merged and well balanced flavours, a side of a Spinach done to perfection with a little fenugreek and squeaky in texture (spot on, not overcooked as it often can be) and some cardamon rice. I loved the fact that this was a friendly, family restaurant also. From the front, the place looks a little like a takeaway (and that was an option); dig deeper and you will be rewarded well!

We really couldn’t fault this place. We went early on Friday evening with our 4 and 7 year old. They were very accommodating and the food was amazing. We were on the way to Chessington for the weekend and it is very close and much nicer than resort food. I’d definitely return if we were in the area again.

I visit this amazing restaurant regularly and it’s always 10/10. The food is absolutely delicious, the service is great and it has a lovely atmosphere. I didn’t realise also that you can order a take away for collection. (I know they’re on Deliveroo for locals) deliveroo hasn’t quite reached us in fetcham yet. My take away was piping hot even after a 20 min journey home and tasted just as amazing as eating it. Can’t recommend this place enough. Enough for my husband who’s a fussy eater.
