Ate there twice whilst working away, food was really good and the service was excellent, especially Kieron who couldnt do any more, credit to the management, top man.

Good pub grub. A national chain establishment, so you know what you're going to get. Hard working, friendly staff.

Had a great meal here, and the food was fantastic. Star of the show was our waiter, Frank. We had a great laugh with him, and he was very attentive to our needs. Overall we had a great time. I would recommend going here for a meal.

We had a table of 8 booked in for Saturday night, the first 2 from our group arrived 10 mins early but were ignored by 4 members of staff before finally being seated. Drinks were ordered but never arrived. The rest of the group arrived and we were left for a good 20 mins before drinks were offered. We did get an apology during the meal due to several lengthy delays in between ordering food and drinks and us actually getting them, apparently there was a lot going on at once?! Our server tried her best to make up for the issues by being super attentive but we were past the point of caring by then and just wanted to leave. Nothing wrong with the food, but everything else seemed chaotic despite what seemed like a surplus of staff floating around.

Service poor, food poor, not enough staff. Waited almost an hour between husband’s starter and main course arriving. Poorly presented, peas were lukewarm, chips soggy. All in all not a great experience.

Agnes and the team are great, Had a first class Xmas meal, and our pooch was well looked after. Highly recommend .

Went for dinner here tonight. My brother in law wanted soup, but was told they only do that at lunchtimes. He ordered chicken skewers but was told there was none left, although a couple who ordered after us received them. My husband wanted to order a curry as the last time we ate here, he really enjoyed it but was told it was taken off the menu although there was chicken katsu. My husband and sister in law had the scampi, but felt as though it had been heated in a microwave. My burger was lovely. The staff were very pleasant and attentive. Although there was a lot of people in the restaurant, the table we received was in quite a cold area. Don’t think we’ll be going back anytime soon

Been here a couple times for breakfast, lunch, and dinner while staying at the hotel next door. Never been disappointed with either the food or the great service by an always accommodating staff. Fun and family style - Sunday roast is definitely to swing by for

Shepherds Grill was a well spaced out, relaxing, friendly pub grub emporium. We went twice - once to find out what it was like, then a second time because we loved it.

Shepherd's Rest Pub excelled in every category (food, staff, ambience). We ate here for dinner on two nights (four meals). The salmon was a really good portion, cooked through yet moist and tender. (We eat a lot of salmon and this meal ranks among the best.)The Haddock was also a good portion with plenty of tender, moist fish with a light crunch batter (definitely more fish than batter). The Mex-style burger was tasty and cooked perfectly (moist but cooked through). The grain salad with chicken was also great. We have been critical of meals elsewhere, but not the food we received at this pub on these two nights. The staff were super courteous and upbeat. They were also very busy, yet served us quickly. Just took more time to get the bill to pay. Shepherd's Rest has a classic pub ambience (difficult to describe it, right?), which made the meal and experience that much more enjoyable. One suggestion is to add other salad meal options beyond the current one, such as Caesar/Cos or tossed/house salad meal with choice of a few add-ons (chicken or salmon or prawns, etc.). Also, the slaw side salad should have less dressing and more of the shredded slaw veggies.

Very Limited menu for myself- vegetarian. Most seemed to involve cheese. The atmosphere was lovely . The evening was made by our fantastic waitress- Angie

I decode to call here from Halifax a mere 15 min taxis drive ! I found the place to be quite empty (mid week ) this establishment is what I call ye olde bar, great if you wish for a quiet time during week. But weekends will probably be better

It’s a nice place to eat, the food was really good, you should definitely try the nachos! However, the service could improve a little bit.

First visit to Shepherds Rest and was very impressed. We chose to sit outside in the very clean and well kept outdoor area. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and the food arrived very quickly. The food was hot and well presented, not what I have come to expect from a chain restaurant, and was very tasty.

Went in for a late lunch during the week with my wife and daughters. Service was good. I had the brisket chilli which was brilliant.

Pleasant atmosphere - popular spot. Just avoid the roasted vegetable pie - it's a sad failure on most counts.

Very alternative till we got our main course. We were then left sitting for approximately 20-30 minutes before I had to go over to waiter and asked to see the dessert menu. This isn't the first time this has happened but thought staffing levels may have improved but sadly it hasn't!

Quite possibly the worst Sunday dinner I’ve ever had. Horrible frozen veg, overcooked meat - missing items and when asked for my beef I had the worst grissly pieces with barely any meat. Hardly any gravy and not fresh roasted potatoes just your basic frozen garbage. My other half had a nice fish and chips and one waitress was very nice but definitely won’t be back.

So hard to fault. Simple food done very well in a nice pub environment. We’ve been going for years and it is consistently good.

I have come home from a very disappointing Fathers Day experience. On arrival we weren't greeted and no eye contact was made. The waitress was busy sorting dessert and kids menus out - fair enough but not exactly friendly. We were shown to a table for 2 and our drinks order was taken. We were presented with menus and left to make our selection. We quickly decided on the roasts and moved our menus to one side when our drinks arrived. 2 pints of water, 2 wine glasses and a wine bucket with a bottle of wine. We were then totally ignored. Half an hour passed and we noted the waitress checking with all the other tables in her section and ignoring us - going straight past our table on the way out without making eye contact. We called out to her that we wished to order. We were basically told that as we had put our menus to one side (to make room for the drinks) she thought we had already ordered. No apology - clearly our fault! We then had a visit from who I assume was a supervisor - to basically tell us off for upsetting the waitress!! She thought we had ordered as the menus weren't in front of us! I really don't get this - we moved the menus as we knew what we wanted and to make room for the drinks and our lack of service was our fault????? We were on the point of giving up and just paying for our drinks and leaving - we felt scolded and not welcome. At that point our meals arrived and they were fine - could have been hotter but a generous portion. None the less we won't be back - think if the deal is you have to keep the menus in front of you till you have ordered then you need to let the paying customers know this. Either that or you will be ignored. Such a shame - both our kids were working in the industry today so I took my husband out for fathers day and we both came home very disappointed. My husband and daughter regularly go there during the week and are well looked after which was why we decided to try the roasts. The sharing dessert platter that had been advertised on Facebook and on the dessert menu was unavailable - summed up the whole experience!

Booked a table for 12:30pm for Father’s Day for my husband, our 1 and a half year old & myself. We arrived early, got seated instantly and the place was rather quiet. When our order was taken I first ordered our daughters food and asked that it comes out as soon as it’s ready so it’s got time to cool down (normally came with our starters) now as I type this we are 40 mins after our plates of starters were taken away, our daughter’s food still not arrived and neither have our mains - when I asked about our daughters food I was told it normally comes with mains as that’s how they cook it - I’m sorry but I should’ve been advised of this when I first requested this at the point of ordering! Been here over an hour and just had our starters! Do not recommend this place, customer service is shocking!

This was our first time here and it will be our last. Starting with they didn’t have most things on menu, chips tasted as though they had been cooked and reheated. No one asked if our food was ok only time we saw a member of staff was to take our plates away. After we paid the bill passing staff members never even acknowledge us leaving the premises

Just found this place driving to our hotel in Aberdeen. Good pitstop. Had a lovely meal at very good price and all freshly cooked to order. Staff really obliging, can't do enough for you. Will definitely be back here next time visiting family. Would recommend a visit. Seating outside for hot sunny days too

Asked for a steak well done. Turned up medium rare. Our drink service was interrupted due to a rude family behind us demanding a waiter to bring them a high chair, the waiter should have asked them politely to wait until he served my family our drinks first. Then another family got seated beside us, one of who made it clear he was suffering from flu and a chest infection (who knows what else..covid?) when there were other tables clearly available. One waiter was heard to be upset revealing to his colleagues that thet got into trouble for taking another family to another table in another area of the restaurant which was empty! A trained chimp could run this restaurant better!

Waited for just shy of an hour for my meal, only to be given a poor excuse of the kitchen being 'short staffed'. Had I been told that when we were seated...it wouldn't have been as big an issue!

Used to be our favourite local for food and drinks. Went in the other day just for a light lunch, to be handed a “new menu”. Terrible. Not even a cheese and ham toastie any more never mind a sandwich. Prices have also soared. Cheaper going elsewhere now which is a shame.

Breakfast was good, plenty to choose from traditional English and continental good selection of drinks. Evening meal was delicious I had Salmon and chocolate brownies for dessert both were good portions, salmon was cooked perfectly on a bed of new potatoes, courgette and butternut squash. Staff very friendly on every visit

Came here for a Friday after work dinner. Ordered a burger. I was dissapointed to find that whilst the outside of the meat was a good colour the inside was light grey. They could benefit from table service inside and out, or qr vode ordering, especially if you are dining alone. Should be better

First time at Shepherds Rest and went for Saturday lunch. We will go back again. Taken to our table in the bowels of the pub. All the staff were friendly. Our server was Joanna. She was a hoot. Had us in stitches from the moment she started to speak and was a refreshing take on waiting staff. If you have a sense of humour and enjoy banter, Joanna is the server for you, she's very bubbly. The two of us had a starter (No Images taken) and main each. Prawn cocktail and Crispy Squid were our choice. The Prawn Cocktail was nice with nice succulent prawns, plenty of sauce and nice salad and was enjoyed. The squid was slightly over cooked so was a bit chewey, but still edible and was nice. The sauce that came with it was not nice, and I would not recommend the sauce. Elsewhere it Usually comes with a garlic mayo or similiar. Mains were Hand-battered Haddock & 12oz 30-day-matured Rump Steak. The haddock was a large size and had very crisp tasty batter and the flesh was flaky and really enjoyed. The rump steak was ordered medium but came medium rare. I like medium rare so it was ok for me and it was a nice steak and I enjoyed it. We ordered a side portion of Onion Rings, but they were the frozen chopped onion type that really are not nice. I really wish places would state chopped onion or onion slices. Marked down the rating due to the onion rings and the sweet and spicy chilli sauce which was vile. However we will go back again, not just for Joanna's banter but for the food.

went here yesterday with 2 friends. Its a lovely place, decor is brill and the seating area outside is 😍 I couldnt get over the service and the staff. They were fast, efficient and sooo friendly. Felt completely at home! oh and the food was really good too! Massive portions and piping hot.

My go-to place for weekday lunch. There's a separate menu for lunch with great prices. Service is amazingly friendly and helpful. Can get busy sometimes. Outdoor sitootery is nice during summer.

Feel that the food is very average for the style and type of food on offer in the evenings like other comments made it is very average, also had dirty cutlery placed on table which was rectified and apologised for but this should not have happened in first place, staff seemed more preoccupied with their gossip in life and not focusing on service. Breakfast on offer was good and much better than the evening food

Visited tonight as a family of 5. When we arrived we were shown a table at the bar & asked if we could be moved as the rugby was on to be told there were no other tables that seat 5! Although we are all animal lovers there was a couple in the next table with a dog, which did bother us as we didn't want to be eating our meal beside it, not very hygienic! We ordered a starter of garlic bread one with cheese one without, our main meal arrived & we had to ask where our starter was they went & got it & the bread was soggy obviously put in the microwave! My niece who is 5 wanted pizza, it too had been microwaved she didn't eat it. My other family member had chicken fajitas the chicken wasn't fresh! I ordered the gourmet burger, it wasn't great at all. All of the food ordered was luke warm and we didn't enjoy it at all. No one came to the table & asked how the food was. We had to ask for cutlery to eat our meal!! My family member went to the toilet only to see plenty of seats available where they could accommodate us. When the waitress came to clear our table we pointed out the faults & she asked why we didn't say we didn't see anyone to tell them as we were in the bar not the restaurant which we booked!! We were given a discount but left totally disgusted & will definitely not return or recommend to anyone

Food good staff a joke stayed in the hotel next door for 3nights . I can honestly say even when the place is empty the staff walk around like there looking for a lost dog no one's in a hurry won't be back

Fairly consistently good food at good value. I’ve visited a few times and can be relied on for a reasonably priced meal out. Service is ok but the staff are always cheery and friendly.

Just want to say a massive thank you to all the team at the Shepherds Rest. We had a large table for a meal and drinks on Christmas Eve and the staff went above and beyond to make our family get together special. My dad commented that every member of staff was happy and smiling and all took the time to chat to him. He’s disabled and they even took his arm to help him walk. The food was fantastic (as always) and the drinks service was brilliant. Thank you!

We started with nachos, wouldn't recommend as there is barely cheese. Then we had a rack of ribs each. They were excellent!!! Frank is a great bartender who really knows his way around the cocktail bar! However the gin cocktail we ordered should not had come with so much ice. If it wasn't for that, I would had given this a 5 star. I recommend going when Jane and Frank are working.
