Shed in Reading

The recent refurb loses none of the building's rickety charm. Still one of the best places in Reading for breakfast. A little strange that their brilliant bacon sandwich is offered as a tiny option at the bottom of the menu board - it's my favourite!

What a great find. Lovely cafe down a quiet side street in Reading town centre. Lovely variety of sandwiches/toasties and salads all freshly made to order. Good coffee and delicious cakes too! This will now be our go-to for lunch in Reading!

Just discovered this cafe in central Reading. Quirky, great service and the best toasties I’ve ever had. Great coffee too! Loved it.

After seeing the reviews on Trip Advisor, I decided to seek out Shed for lunch while visiting Reading. And I'm pleased I did! It's worth turning into the side street to go here if you fancy an alternative to all of the high street chains that are around the town. The soup was coconut and lentil and was absolutely delicious. Afterwards I saw other gluten free options that I may have been tempted with. There was a welcoming, laid-back feel to the place and several people were enjoying the food and the vibe when I was there. I will definitely return if I visit Reading again!

Lovely breakfast brunch lunch spot offering a eclectic selection of dishes. Oat Lattes were great though perhaps a little small.

We stopped by to work for a couple hours and really enjoyed our coffee and lunch. The owners are warm, welcoming and make us laugh! We appreciate the multiple vegan items on the menu and went for the big vee. Oh wow, delicious. I’m still thinking about it a day later. Do yourself a favor and enjoy a bite at this hidden gem in Reading. You’ll be glad you did.

As soon as I walked in I felt welcome. People people. The upstairs was a lovely place to sit and write my postcards after breakfast. This Place used to be an old forge, the wooden beamed roof and bricked walls still there. Cosy. Food: The best soft scrambled eggs on toast I’d had in a long time, and hot. The marmalade tasted like oranges instead of the usual sugar. Loved the crockery. But mostly the service and I will go there as often as I can when I’m in Reading. Thank you to Pete, the owner.

My wife found this cafe as it had great vegan options. I was having a hypoglycaemic episode when we arrived and the lovely chap serving seemed to understand that I needed my food quickly. The food was very tasty and the place had an excellent vibe. We didn’t sample the cakes this time but they looked impressive. Was a great experience and lots of food options for people with varying diets.

This is the best place to get a sandwich in Reading. Often busy but the staff are consistently delightful and the owner is a legend. Great food whether eating in or taking away

We ordered a range of breakfast rolls for a charity event we were organising at work, and our team were delighted with them! Such great service from Peter - he was friendly, approachable and provided very efficient service. Will definitely be coming back.

Lovely Cafe in beautiful Reading. Looking for brunch after travelling out of London, and awaiting a rental car, this place served our needs well. I thoroughly enjoyed my kimchi fried eggs and coffee in a nearby park. Friendly staff, wholesome food.

I was really shocked that they charge 45p for alternative milk - especially as the cups are tiny! This is more expensive than London prices. It’s a real shame as they are obviously interested in inclusivity and offer a buy a refugee a coffee but they should be inclusive in all realms! The place is also quite dark and could do with plants or something to lighten it up

Update: After living in reading for a year, She'd is still my favorite sandwich place. I now order Cheddar gorge with scrambled eggs and I can't go back from it. I still and will always recommend Shed for its delicious food and its friendly owners and staff -------------------------------------------------- I love how cozy and home-like feels. I ordered the shed club sandwich and chocolate cake. The cake is very decadent and moist in a very yummy way. The sandwich is fresh sourdough. Crunchy outside, soft inside. A well-cut chicken. At least an inch thick. Crisp iceberg lettuce. Juicy tomato slices. Seasoned like mad with salt and pepper. I decided to add eggs to it, and what a perfect decision that was. It was a awesome sandwich. A high recommendation.

Great place tucked around the back of Friar street , stones throw from the station . Eat upstairs - stopped for lunch with work and loved the sandwiches . Planning a return trip on comedy night !

Cosy cafe tucked away just off the High Street. Nice when you don't fancy somewhere noisy. Lovely atmosphere. Definitely recommend

We visited for breakfast and had a vegan toast with avocado, mushrooms and salsa. Food was lovely, coffee was great and the staff and atmosphere were relaxed and informal. Good food, good value for money. Good vegan menu. Worth a visit.

Though on the pricey side, Shed do some great toasties and coffee. The toasties aren’t like any you’ve tried before and I highly recommend them!

The owners are a delight. We didn’t upload photos because we demolished everything too quickly; everything was freshly made and the coffee was delicious. Highly recommend the peanut butter and tahini cookie!

I like the environment and atmosphere very much. The food is hot enough, the price is a bit expensive, but overall it's worth it.

Wow ! What a find down a back alley off the old high street. Fantastic staff, ultra helpful, friendly and so flexible with kids food. Great toasted sandwich and sourdough bread was homemade and amazing. Total surprise and highly recommended

Interesting little coffee and cake shop off Friar Street though its not obvious to find. I had coffee and cake. Both were very nice. You can eat inside (there are floors to an upper floor) or there a limited number of tables outside on the road. Opening hours were confusing. Sign outside said 10am opening but I was there at about 0930 and they were open.

Not being a regular visitor to Reading had googled some suggestions for places for lunch and was so glad we picked Shed. Delicious Cheddar Gorge sandwich and TunaTurner Toastie. Staff were really helpful and polite. Relaxed and spacious dining area, great decor. Will make more effort to shop in Reading and visit Shed.

Shed is definitely a hidden gem particularly because of its architecture surrounded by towering concrete and glass, it is an oasis and a call back to a slower pace and enjoying great food with friends and family, just a turn away from the railway station like you've gone down Diagon Alley. There is lots of room upstairs for larger groups, or take in the sun outside. You must try their breakfast treats, as well as their famous sandwiches and hot pasta for lunch. I loved the Brie, Bacon and Cranberry toaties, the Hot Pasta, the Shed 7 Sandwich and homemade cakes. My favourite is the Veggie Breakfast, simply smothered sourdough with butter, avocado, mushrooms and scrambled eggs, topped with toasted seeds. Amazing staff and lovely owners. Pete is a great person who created an oasis, you should definitely sample.

We needed a snack and drink before getting the train. Although closing up the owner was very helpful and polite and we sat outside to eat. Gorgeous’Tuna Turner’ toastie with home made slaw. Recommended!

Only been here once .ordered the chocolate vegan cake and a cappuccino.have to say quite impressed .the cake moist and Gooey just perfect and the cappuccino silky and just right. Decent prices too.will.definalty come here again and try out their menu !

I had breakfast here this morning. I tend to go for a traditional English but they don't do one here so I ordered the eggs and kimchi and my wife, the scrambled eggs, mushrooms and avocado. The food was exceptional. I shall be returning. R & M, Reading.

I stumbled upon this delightful cafe while having my ears pierced. Having eaten in Reading many times, this was a place I have been missing out on! They have a lovely selection of healthy, freshly prepared food. It was exactly what we were looking for....

Quiet and nice atmosphere, very cute place !

Went in for a quick bite with friends after collecting them from the train station. Absolutely brilliant service, and the sandwiches were delicious. The coffee was great and there were as many milk options as you could want. We managed to get seating indoors which was quite cosy, but not too cramped. Will happily call this a new favourite in town for a bite before heading out anywhere.

One of the best toasties I've ever had! Went here after looking up 'best places for lunch in Reading' when visiting from Oxford and seeing this place mentioned a few times. I had the top toastie to take away and ate it on my journey home, it was so good! The fillings were tasty and plentiful and the sourdough was great, and not too hard like it sometimes can be. Will be back to Reading soon just for another lunch here!

A great independent cafe: our go-to-place for a tasty breakfast, lunch, coffee and cake in a historic building. Feels Covid safe as well. Very friendly and efficient staff.

I don't even know how to start... It's so different than the other coffee shops in Reading! They have personality and great food in a cosy space with a very nice service! They don't have loud music so you can have a cuppa while read/study without disturbance. The "tuna turner" toastie is amazing! You can really see that everything is made with love and care. Can't recommend enough!
