Order came on time, beautiful food, couldn't fault anything

Always a good 'served' buffet meal with friendly service in the past (pre-Covid.) Now this huge place is just a takeaway, but the food is delicious and there's plenty of it

If your want your guts to collapse and not eat again , eat at this place,,if you havent been for a number 2 in days eat at this place it will soon come out.......absolutely the worst food place in swansea , how is it still running.. please don't spend any money here

Ordered beef crispy noodles. Came with beef in a separate tub amd a tub of noodles and not even cooked.. absolutely rock solid.. I have a video... literally don't get it..

Food arrived 1.5 hrs late. Upon arrival the vegetable chow mein had pieces of pork meat throughout, at first I thought it was pork chow mein however this was not the case, instead it was vegetable chow mein cooked in the same pan that was used to cook pork meat which is even more shocking, clearly couldn’t care less about their customers, the restaurant overall had a bad attitude and refused to take ownership blaming it on the chef and driver, absolutely narcissistic behaviour.

Went to friends for food , order very late , checking food and found meat in vegetarian meal , shows cooking utensil are not cleaned between orders being prepared, this could cause illness for someone who maybe allergic to something. Call takeaway and spoke to someone that really couldn't care to take responsibility for this . Would advise to go elsewhere

Our review is very much the same as below spent £30 the chicken was a very odd colour and so was the sauce, chips were hard and seemed under done or left for a couple of days crispy beef was soft. I will never go back here again after this experience.

Had a delivery which was really quick in fairness but when the food came after spending over £30 pounds on it was awful Chips rock hard and tasted like they was cooked the day before the curry special curry was a strange colour and the chicken in it was slimy and not cooked the taste on the curry was strange and that’s just the start myself and my wife have now got bad stomachs and can’t keep off the toilet .. stay away !!!! Save your money can see why the restaurant is still not open ! Needs a new chef or will go out of business completely ….. it’s a shame as this place use to be great and give great food … sorry guys won’t be using any more .

We are sorry but the restaurant is still unfortunately closed for sit-in ,but we still do takeaway (collection or delivery) due to complications and unexpected problems. We are also looking forward to reopening the restaurant for sit-ins but numerous issues keep popping up one after another, each preventing us from reopening. We still do not know when the restaurant will finally reopen, but we greatly appreciate our customers that still order takeaway from us and the support that all of you give us. Ordered through Just Eat it arrived quickly and lovely and hot... The meals themselves were great... Highly recommended

Ordered fried rice, it was sold like a brick. Chicken Chinese style. Chewy, dry chicken, sauce was bright pink?? Tasted like sugar water, smelt awful, most dusgusting taste I've ever come across. I think my dirty dishwater tastes nicer. prawn on toast, full of oil and no prawn, just sesame, but burnt in places. Waste of £19, straight in the bin. Don't bother, save your money

I have ordered off these for over a year and has always been amazing customer service and lovely food , I ordered tonight and I was told my foods Ready to collect or it will be an hour for delivery after delayed delivery , I questioned why I would want food that was ready now delivered in an hour and the guy shouted at me and talked to like I was a child. Looks likenke its time to try somewhere else , not sure if its new people or some guy having a bad day but the way he spoke to a customer was disgraceful. Sort your phone staff out as you have lost a good customer 👍 Manners are free in this world

Had spicy vermacelli, crispy beef and chicken curry. Chicken was undercooked. Very little meat in vermacelli. Both of us had 'funny tummys' next morning. Disappointed as we had heard really good things about it

Not done in, I drove here after a long hard day at work hoping to have a nice meal, and hey presto, it’s now takeaway only!!! Please update your listing so that we know what services you offer

Tried to order tonight, 6.10pm just kept getting delayed notifications and they hung up when I phoned. Its now 3 hours later. I understand its new years eve !but seriously get your act together. If you can't handle orders for delivery and have an open restaurant then don't open for delivery !!! And answer your phone to customers so we can make alternative arrangements, its very ignorant.

I used to love eatting here and getting take away, but lately this place has sadly gone down hill and no idea why. My wife had a duck dish and got food poisioning, the food over all was bland, the curry sacuse had no spice to it, the crispy chilli beef was way over cooked and the sauce was lacking. Such a shame really! 😔

Ordered off just eat. The estimated delivery time was 21:25, had a text saying it was on the way at 21:08 and it arrived at 21:50! Noodles were hard and not cooked, duck curry mostly fat and when it arrived it was luke warm. All very frustrating because the flavour is lovely!

Took a while to arrive (surpose it is Saturday during lockdown so will forgive), but well worth the wait. Beautiful food. Will definitely use again.

Absolutely shambolic!! GF ordered at 6:40pm, at 8:20pm was told driver would be with us in minutes. At 8:45pm still no show, check just eat app, claimed to have been delivered at 8:00pm yet restaurant said order was with driver who was "in our area" but we needed to wait. Just eat tried to intervene, restaurant claimed order was delivered at 8:00pm!!!! Avoid at all costs!!!!!! If i could award 0 stars i would have!!!!!!

Been going here year after, the best all you can eat chinese around. Deco and carpet needs updating but the food is what counts!

I can't fault the food or the service, unfortunately I can now fault the prices. Since lockdown they have hiked their prices up and I'm not paying them. Sorry, but you aren't the only takeaway out there.

It took 2 of us 35 minutes standing outside for the driver to find us, food was cold, items missing & definitely not worth the wait

Really nice all you can eat food for a very good price and friendly service it's a nice old school Chinese restaurant. its always nice and quiet there too. And if you are worried about people coughing and sneezing over the buffet then don't worry because you don't have to leave your seat to get because all the food is in the kitchen and prepared to order. But there is no toilet only a urinal so it you need to go then do it before you go there but other than that it's really good 👍

Very nice good price but need more egg in fried rice and need crispyer chicken balls and pompadoms didn't taste fresh other than that all spot on .

Food always been spot on from here never really had a bad word been having takeaway for years, except tonight we ordered on just eat at 10:10pm as closes at 11pm so plenty of time to prep and deliver yet no order confirmation!! We called to say where our food they said sorry didn't accept order as driver went home early!! Seriously bad customer service let it down so we've had food from wonderful chinese delivery on time no dramas and was delicious highly recommend guys

Great food and the buffet is a bargain!

Wont rush back. Felt rushed through our meal. Its was not ice. Carpet is absolutely filthy. It's not worth £18 per head

Friendly welcome and plenty of space to relax. Freshly cooked food from the set price menu is brought to your table quickly and is delicious. We all had something different for starters, but the sharing platters looked good too. We had the duck/lamb pancakes and that was fun to do. We tried using bowls and chopsticks with our rice, noodles and meat dishes. It wasn't difficult! The spicy dishes were as tasty as the mild ones and it was really good food! Thanks for a really great evening!

Used to eat here regularly a few years ago, it was the dogs danglers, tonight I thought I was eating the dogs danglers !! Starters.. Butterfly prawns, satay chicken and shredded chicken.. They all came on the same plate, covered in breadcrumbs and deep fried.. Couldn’t tell them apart by taste or looks!! Gross... Also bbq ribs which had either been cooked to death or keep warm under lights, like old leather, nearly took my teeth out.!! Mains.. we had chicken and pineapple, roast pork in black bean and sizzling beef in Cantonese sauce. Beef, some pieces tough but others tenderPork was either tough as old boots or full of fatSurprisingly the chicken and pineapple was the best of a bad bunch, I say surprisingly as I wasn’t happy my brother ordered it in the first place. I would normally have spoken to the manager and explained how poor the food was but the old Dutch asked me to leave it slide as she hates a fuss. The best thing I ate all night was the fruittella type sweet we got with the bill.!! NEVER AGAIN Such a shame

We ordered a delivery for a romantic night in . The food was absolutely horrific !!! Chicken Curry - inedible strands of squid like chicken in a bizarre red watery gravy with a few onions . It was absolutely vile. Burnt Crispy noodles- when we rang up to complain we were told never order them again as they are supposed to be burnt !!! The Beef smelt off so we avoided that and again when we complained we were told we could have a credit for another disgusting chicken curry . The only positive thing is that they will obviously be out of business within a year if they continue to serve up such rubbish . Previous reviews back this up - disgusting food , terrible management !!!

Worst Chinese food I’ve ever had in my life accompanied by the worst service ever. Even the most basic Chinese foods such as chow mein were cold and horrible. Meat was inedible and to top of all off the gentlemen serving us was extremely blunt and rude it was actually laughable. Would advise anyone considering going to avoid

Have regularly ordered takeaways for five people on a Sat night for many years, have always been very pleased. We ordered a beef curry and some S&P wings to share recently. It came to £16 pounds, I offered the delivery driver £18, he said he didn’t have change so it ended up costing £20 for a shared meal for two. Wings were cold and when we opened the curry it orange in colour and not the usual curry. They have lost loyal customers, as we will certainly not be ordering here again, gutted as it was so reliable

The food is very nice, the interior decor is a little dated, the carpet in the place is so dirty that your shoes stick to it as you walk over it. Shame that some members of the staff are rude and impolite to say the least.

We were in this restaurant to celebrate my husband’s birthday.The welcome was great as usual very friendly staff! It was the first time for us to visit with our friends!The staff made us all feel comfortable and at ease.The choice of food was outstanding and the standard of food was exceptional delicious and plenty of it! We were all impressed with the food and we were all full but this occasion the food was a very high quality! Having closed down a few years ago the THAI PHOENIX has reopened as shanghai Chef. The buffet and food is the same concept, its all you can eat but its served to you from the menu. The starters are by far the best!!! You can have as many as you want and keep ordering! Then duck and then mains. The price is very good for the amount a d quality of the food. Drinks the. Though are ridiculously expensive, almost to the point that it puts yoy off visiting! 3 drinks and a kids small drink was nearly £20 (all soft drinks).From the outside, and the I side to some degree the place looks run down. One hint I'd give would be that staff need to explain how their buffet works as we saw a few people oring and getting a little confused by the process. The staff seemed to have changed over recently, seem nice enough although the older tall guy with glasses, perhaps he needs to stay in the kitchen as didn't have the best customer service.

Eat as much as you like, stick to the starters as they had flavor.

Visited this restaurant whilst passing the area. Having read the mixed reviews we decided to give it a go and were not disappointed. The decor is tired and to be honest the building is anything but inviting from the outside. However, this was not in any way representative of the food. We had the all you can eat menu which was at a reduced price for under 10 year olds and our 2 year old ate for free. This made it very good value for money as they were both able to experience a variety of dishes. We also liked the way of ordering a round at a time so that there was no food waste asin so many of the all you can eat buffets. Highly recommend this place for the food.

Was stuck in nearby hospital with our little boy on our first wedding anniversary so we made best of bad situation I used to go here before was a bit apprehensive as nAme had changed . Lovely takeaway huge portions and really quick . Satay sauce amazing and chow mien lovely too

Disgusting attitude on the phone!

Fantastic value for money and always good food

The waiter gave me a smirky, questioning look for not choosing a starter. I was also confused by the bill as it clearly says "cash only", but the guy said they do card too. He also made me feel like I was asking a stupid question by asking this. The meal itself was small for the price, but otherwise okay. The decor was nice in places, with good mellow Chinese music. It would have been nice to have been served with a genuine smile.

Very shocked for my order today I had yesterday’s food 100%, was 5:30 ordered and 10 minutes for collection food was cold and very wilted, I work with food and this was not fresh! I don’t know weather it was because I refused to pay for my last order cos delivery driver was smoking in the car. So this is payback to me. I used to live this Chinese but I don’t know what’s happens, don’t buy the big bottles of lemonade as they buy them in Lidl and sell for over £2.00.. will not be ever going back there again

although living close to restaurant, it is many years since visiting reataurant as I still remember it as the old Rraven public house.After returning home after a trip to Holland, feeling very tired I decided to order a meal online for the first time. This is something I will definitely do again. After selecting dishes from an extensine menu. I chose a home delivery for 6.30 At 6.29 my meal was delivered and I was more than pleased with my meals, which hot,and well packed.. The portions were large and really delicious and I would certainly recommend the Shanghai Chef, which I will definitely visit again

I visited this month in a party of 8 some 10 years after my last visit. The waiters were attentive and the food was amazing. £14.99 all you can eat on week days and a choice of just about anything on the menu. Everything was hot and fresh and the drinks are also very reasonably priced.

The eat all you like from the menu for a set price is great. The starters are so good I always order three mixed lots of them. I'm usually far too full to have a main course. Staff are very friendly.

My husband saw this restaurant advertised 3 weeks ago so we went to have a look. I must admit when I saw the outside of the building I was not impressed and doubtful about going in. However, we decided to have a look inside and I am so glad we did. Nicely spaced out tables in a large, clean, well lit room with spotless white and red tablecloths. Nice very large cloth serviettes. A very large picture window at the back with nice views. The menu was extensive with all items individually priced (this turned out to be for the takeaway) as apart from one small section you could select any other items. As we were a couple we could select 4 starters between us but when finished we could order more if wanted. Then there were aromatic duck dishes if wanted before selecting 1 main dish each plus rice etc. You can then order more if you still have room to eat any more. All dishes are freshly cooked so they are piping hot and absolutely delicious.

Not the greatest location but we'll worth a visit. Clean and tidy venue with courteous, friendly staff. Basically it's eat as much as you like for a set price.

Over the years, I’ve been here many times but not been for about a year. I read the negative reviews on here and worried it’d gone downhill. I needn’t have worried, yes the decor is still shabby and the carpets need replacing but I’m not eating them so I can overlook this.

Went there this evening for a family meal and the service was absolutely amazing. The staff made a huge effort with the 4 children in the group and by the end of the night knew them by first name. The food was lovely and we all throughly enjoyed our night. Big thank you to the staff we will definetely be heading back soon

First time at the restaurant and I can say is that I would 100% come again. All staff made me feel very welcome. Look past the dated decor.. never judge a book by its cover. When my starter came out! Wow is all I can say. Me and my pals were in salt and pepper heaven! All the food was piping hot and we enjoyed everything that was presented to us! One word of advice for any people feeling apprehensive about of a Chinese all you can eat... don a pair of maternity pants and get yourself down to penylan!

We still had to pay full price for out food even tho we only had a starter we still paid nearly £20 For food, nothing was done about her attitude or behaviour towards us! They only have a 3 star rating on a food hygiene! Highly recommend not to come here!

Just left this place and can't say a bad thing about it. great staff, very friendly nothing is too much trouble, food was amazing very quick and tasty. Also had a fussy eater with us which was no problem at all. Buffet available and good parking.

Only had a couple of starters which were burnt and had bits of bone in them! The decoration here is abysmal and our feet were sticking to the carpet and the restaurant generally was rather dirty! The waiters were rude and had appalling attitude towards us. When we asked for our portion of the bill, they tried to charge us for the set ‘all you can eat’ menu even though we only had a couple of starters! Will not be going back!!

Where to start. The food is amazing and you get so much. The best Chinese food I have ever tasted. The staff are ever so friendly and you don't have a long wait for your food, as well as being hot. There is a wonderful menu, everyone is catered for. Highly recommend the Shanghai Chef.

1 member of staff was rude told us to keep our kids quiet they were 2 and 3!! Food was ok but very small potions so had to keep asking for more as there was 8 of us! And drinks we’re pored from a bottle and charged ridiculous prices! Won’t be returning again!
