Amazing food, excellent customer service and i really enjoy the atmosphere, Would recommend if in the area!

We were greeted with the warmest of smiles food was some of the best Indian ever the flat bread flavours were delicious Highly recommend this place a must visit even the coffee and treats not to be missed When visiting Harrogate again definitely dinning here 👍top class food

Great host, who really looked after us and took his time to describe and explain a good number of options on the menu. What stood out for me was the freshness of the ingredients - even the pickles are all made in-house - and I loved the way I didn't feel heavy and stuffed at the end of the meal, which I usually do with this cuisine. Thanks again to the whole team who did an extraordinary job, and we look forward to next time.

We had a fabulous time at Shalimar, the food was excellent, staff amazing and couldn't do enough for us and the garlic naan was huge 😆. We will defo be going again on our next trip to Harrogate, loved it😋.

This has got to be the best Indian in Harrogate ! We came here with our friends last night, I’d already mentioned to Jamill that my friend only likes Chicken Saag mild. He reassured me to let him know when we were coming and he would make it to her liking. Well done Jamill and Shalimar, you got it spot on. We all enjoyed our food from start to finish, the pickle tray, poppadoms, mains which we all had different, the chicken dishes are just so plentiful with rice and chapattis. The house wine is quite palatable and my friends husband enjoyed his Cobra. We are already looking forward to our next meal here. Be sure to book as it gets busy quite quickly. Don’t go anywhere else. Thank you again.

Visited Shalimar with a large group of friends last night. Great atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff, and absolutely fabulous food. The meal was delicious, and nothing was too much trouble. Well worth a visit.

A weekend at Harrogate would not be complete without a trip to Shalimars. Went the Saturday and Sunday night and both meals were out of this world. Both nights made to feel so welcome and on the Sunday night they were actually cleaning up, no one else was in the restaurant and they still sat us down and made us the most amazing meal. The whole of the team are friendly and know their food and they can make any dish to your liking. Just wish we lived closer to Harrogate to go more often, unless they want to open a restaurant up near us, that would be perfect. Late decision to have a curry in Harrogate. As soon as walked in door didn't like atmosphere. Tightly pscked in a grubby corner with grotty tabletop and extremely noisy group next to us. The bhaji was poor, too much gram flour and not enough onion, it was stodgy. My main of lamb jalfreizi was disappointing with too much peppers and old mutton and oily sauce. The basmatti rice was low quality and a bit sticky. The peshwari nan was the flattest I've seen and seemed a reheated one... All in all possibly the worst curry I've had. I'll definitely be sticking to Wakefield, where I'm from, from now on as it is cheaper and far superior to this!

Two of four orders were incorrect.

Went there a couple of weeks ago ,meat madras 2 chapatti Prawn jalfrezi a nan One Beer and glass of wine.paid with card on checking receipt next morning had been charged £70.00 for something we never had 2 starters 2 mains side dishes onion bagis biriyani main bhuna and 4 beers. I rang and pleasant chap said to please come in with receipt and would sort refund £ 30 around. Went in last night the guy whoem served us 2 weeks ago said he would sort something. We ordered same again less beer,after finishing our meal I asked what Was too be done re being given wrong bill The son of the owner i believe ? Then more or less accused myself and partner of making the whole thing up and raised his voice.i said call the police then ! We walked out in disgust, a shame been going there for 40 years in various guises,food was nice but down too one arrogant person they have lost our monthly visits.check your bills before paying !!

Returned after feb when we were charged £70 for something we did not order ! Only noticed this next morning on looking at receipt. First time in Shalimar tonight, lovely welcome, nicely busy, fabulous food and service and good value too. We will go back

Disappointed, been to this restaurant before, the chicken tikka from the biryani was the off cuts and barely any veg/ sauce (usually had a vegetable curry with the item)

High quality food and plenty of it! Delivered early.

Delivery driver was a bit abrupt after I gave him £2 tip.. Meal was fantastic.

Staff and owner were great, had good chat. Offered us specials off the menu, which was superb. Made me a traditional homemade chai that wasn’t generally available. Good fun all round, which is not often you’ll find.

We visited on a Saturday seemed busy service was good to be fair but honestly the food was so bland I had the chicken shaslick and it was just chunks of chicken no flavour or seasoning the kemma Nan again tasted of nothing if you like bland food you will be alright

Visited Sunday 7th Jan 2024. One of the best Indian meals we have ever had. Food was plentiful, delicious and great value. The staff are just amazing too. A must if you are ever visiting Harrogate.

We had a very warm welcome and a lovely dinner! The owner was friendly, welcoming and clearly passionate about his restaurant - he invited me to pop back into the kitchen to show me where they make their paneer cheese on site. He spoke highly of his suppliers, who provide excellent quality, local produce. We were somewhat dazzled by his passion - it was quite unexpected to what we thought would be a quiet meal on a business trip - but the food lived up to the owner’s hype.

As we approached this restaurant the aroma was amazing, & although we hadn't booked, we decided to see if we could get in. The gentleman who greeted us, (who we think may have been the owner), was a really nice guy and said he would find room for us somehow. This was just over a week before Christmas, so was a really nice gesture, as he could have just said they were booked up. Nevertheless, make room for an extra table they did. ALL the staff were really attentive & genuinely couldn't do enough for us. Poppadoms & a pickle tray arrived within a couple of minutes, whilst we made our mind up what to have from the vast menu. When the mains arrived... wow! The food was amazing & plentiful. We both had chicken dishes (medium murgh & madras), & the chicken was so tender and tasty. The sauces were amazing too. The garlic naan was large & unlike other places we've been to, there was no doubt it was a garlic one, (which was very nice). Rices were faultless, & for those who like their chilli's, don't forget to try the chilli rice! We watched as staff brought the serving trolley out with other people's food on, & everything we saw looked amazing. It started to get busy with people arriving who had clearly booked, & so not wanting to take advantage of the fact that they had made room for us, we offered to move back to the waiting area after our meal, to finish our drinks. The gentleman who'd greeted us at the door wouldn't hear of it, & said it was no problem. They genuinely made us feel so welcome, & we wouldn't have changed anything about our experience. The total bill for a couple of poppadoms, a pickle tray (which they allowed us to keep for the entirety of the meal), chicken murgh, chicken madras, chilli rice, basmati rice, large garlic naan, & 3 drinks was around £45, (so about £22.50 each). We both loved the food, & bearing in mind we were both stuffed too, I don't think you can fault that. The friendliness & dedication of the staff was the icing on the cake. We both said we would return without hesitation, & would recommend it to anyone

First time here for a meal. Jamil the owner looked after us 100%. We had a fish starter and a king prawn butter tikka. Both were so tasty and good quality Then we both had a lamb Karahi, a paratha and garlic naan. The meat was so tender and the sauce was amazing. We will definitely be back soon

This is a difficult review to write. We were staying the night in Harrogate so looked on our Meerkat app to see what restaurants had offers. This restaurant was on with an offer of 2 mains for the price of 1 Sunday to Thursday. It wasn't the cheapest of Indian restaurants in Harrogate but because of the offer we headed there. It isn't especially luxurious but perfectly fine. After we had sat down we were asked for drinks and poppodums. Then we were asked to order and before doing so we showed him the app and said we wanted to take advantage of the offer. He said it wasn't valid. He brought another member of staff who repeated this followed by the manager who again repeated that the offer was not valid in December. He claimed that no restaurants offered any discounts in December. This apparent exemption to the Meerkat offer was nowhere on the website. So having had a drink we felt obliged to continue and ordered. What makes the review difficult is that my Chicken Madras was a great size portion- and absolutely delicious. In fact it ranks as one of the best I have ever had. So great food - but a sour taste in the mouth financially.

Excellent food fantastic service. Party of 5 Inc 3 GF. Jamale the owner, said he would take our order and ensure the GF food was perfect, he did and it was. Really good night, attentive staff. Very busy, so got a bit noisy but good value for money. Even serve a choice of GF beers. Will definitely return.

Food not great. Probably the worst Indians I’ve had in the Uk (I’ve had some bad one’s abroad) Chicken shashlik looked more like a Chinese chicken and green pepper meal. Chicken tikka rogan Josh was ok, not great, small pieces of chicken in a mediocre sauce. Nan bread looked more like a pizza garlic bread. I would have gave it 1 or 2 stars but the staff got us seated quick and very helpful and attentive in a very busy restaurant.

Well!!! what can I say about this genuinely authentic punjabi restaurant.....absolutely Amazing, fabulous and the true taste of punjab. Jamil Asghar owner and chef was a gentleman and the perfect host to what turned out to be an evening to remember and led me on a culinary journey back to the heart of punjab. The food was truly magnificent. Often in so many so called Indian restaurants the food is altered to cater for the Western pallete, this couldn't be further from the truth at Shalimar. Chef Jamil Asghar stamps his humble roots on ever dish that comes out of the kitchen. His ethos is simple, cook with high quality top ingredients and don't retract from proper home good food. Nothing added, nothing taken away and you've got the Best Indian restaurant that keep customers returning again and again to sample the traditional taste of Punjab. I couldn't recommend this establishment enough and I am so looking forward to my next visit. All the staff were, polite, friendly and attentive. Thank you again for a trip back home to enjoy savouring my culinary roots.

Birthday meal for my sister on Sunday evening. We had a variety of dishes, chicken, lamb, fish, byriani as well as naans and chapatis. Everything was made with care and the service was exemplary. The owner makes a point of looking after diners and certainly recognises regulars. Very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Well worth a visit if you haven't been already.

Unfortunately we were disappointed in the quality of food we received. The two butter chickens were incredibly watery with poor quality chicken, none of our 3 diners would eat it. The shashlik chicken was similarly below par, and the palak paneer was OK-ish. All in all quite disappointed with our experience as we researched to find what we thought would be high quality food. Perhaps it's better quality when you dine in but I certainly wouldn't recommend.
