Many new Indian/Nepalese restaurants have opened in the last couple years, however Shahbazz remains the top dog in our opinion. We’ve had a couple of takeaways which weren’t up to the standards we expect however more recently, we have certainly noticed an improvement. The restaurant service is amazing and the food is continually fantastic when sitting in. Would recommend the murgh samundri and mekhani (spelling?). Lebanese red wine is worth the price and specifically love the fact they serve soft drinks in a pint, and it’s bottles! Will continue to recommend to friends and family. Hope this standard is maintained.

We dined in and ordered a plate of plain rice, lamb roghan josh, lamb vindaloo and garlic naan. Everything was very delicious and the curry was properly spicy. The experience was marred by a waiter who was demeaning and rude. When we asked to pack up our leftovers, he states that it’s often the women who can’t finish their food and was also constantly talking over me like I did not exist. Great food, bad customer service.

Having eaten in this restaurant with great enjoyment for approximately 30 years it was so disappointing that our meals fell far short of the usual standard we have come to expect from the Shabaaz. It would appear that there has either been a major change in the chefs or the management but whatever the reason, they must rectify very quickly or they will lose their regular customers. In a highly competitive market it is extremely important to provide good quality products to customers otherwise they will go elsewhere.

Used to go regularly to Light of Bengal next door, but it deteriorated when it changed hands, even though that chef won best curry house in Aberdeen. We are creatures of habit and always have the same thing, Lamb Dopiaza for me and the curry with the pickle in it(?)for my husband. The lamb is always tender, cooked to perfection, and the sauce is delicious. For some reason the chapatis were a little thin last time, but a minor point. Been coming to this restaurant for a long time whenever back in Aberdeen, but last experience leaves me wondering what's gone wrong?Used to be THE place to eat quality Indian cuisine, but now it just feels like another curry house.Food quality is still not bad, but service quality has definitely declined to the point you get the feeling you're not welcome, stopping them doing something more important, or that they've become arrogant about their legacy.... though I don't know what could more important than their customers experience and repeat business!Needs to get the customer interface / experience sorted out or they may find folks will simply vote with their feet! Maybe a fresh set of (younger) faces around the place would be invigorating and more welcoming than the somewhat tired familiarity that seems to have taken root! A pity to have to be critical of one of my favorite haunts..... but only telling it the way it feels! Come on guys!

They then asked if we wanted poppadoms which we did, the next thing we are all served a small plate of mixed starters, although these were very tasty I don't remember being asked if we wanted starters, so I was thinking these would be free as we were such a big group - alas no that was £140 on our bill. Food was nice enough I liked that they just came and put the food on the table in front of you, they remembered what you ordered which was a nice touch. I chose this restaurant on a random basis. They offered two alternative lunches (£8.95 and £9.95) - I chose the more expensive lunch menu and started with an onion bargee and had a mains of lamb jalfrezi with pulao rice followed by ice cream and coffee. The food was spicy and tasty but not exceptional. I would rate this restaurant as good or better than average but not to the standard of very good.

Normally I would give 5 stars. But recently I came back from London and was surprised at the low cost of Indian/Pakistani food down there. So I performed a cost comparison with shabaaz and other restaurants not in the city centre, but equally good and in the Aberdeen area.Shabaaz charge almost double the cost based on a meal for 4 adults. There are others in town where the quality is the same but costs 53% less. They need to reduce prices to keep customers and regulars. So I awarded 3 stars on that basis.

The restaurant at 8pm on a Saturday night was very busy which was great to see in Aberdeen currently. We were seated with in 10 mins.I know my Indians having lived in Wembley for many years and I can honestly say it was delicious! We received a complimentary starter and the condiments were lovely. We didn't opt for other starters as I know I can't finish it.I had the garlic chilli chicken along with a mushroom badji which is basically mushroom curry. The food took a wee while to come button we were in no rush. It Was very fresh, hot not over greasy. I opted for chicken but my friend had a king prawn dish. My sister opted for a lush chicken dish but can't remember name. I had chapatti as don't eat nan!Unfortunately I was not feeling great nothing to do with the food or drink so could finish it all. Next day I wished I had taken rest to go! Certainly the finest curry I've eaten i. Aberdeen in a long while. You can see it's a family restaurant with the elders In charge but I liked that style of tradition and service was very good.

Having read a couple of reviews about the Shabaaz Tandoori Restaurant in Aberdeen on TripAdvisor after much thought I decided to go there for my meal on Saturday 13th August, my first night in Aberdeen.I was pleasantly surprised when I entered the restaurant, it looked nice not too big and was quite busy. I was seated without any delay and my drinks order was taken.I felt as though I was being a bit rushed into ordering my meal without even having time to drink a little of my wine! I told the waiter that I was not in a rush if that was ok and he said no that is fine. When I did order the food did not take too long to come to the table and I was very delighted with my dish of Lamb Bhoona and rice. It was very tasty and most enjoyable. Not being able to eat anything else I asked for the bill. This was brought quite promptly. When I checked over it I realised that I had been OVERCHARGED!!! One person on their own!Eventually this older waiter came and said is there something wrong and I said yes I have been overcharged. He kind of snatched the bill out of my hand and then proceeded to tell me in a very loud voice that it was this, this and that and all was ok!!! I had to say please do not shout and he said I am not shouting but he was!!When I pointed out that I had been overcharged for a glass of wine that I did not have which was nearly £6 he turned the bill over and deducted the amount and said there!!! There was no apology whatsoever which was very bad. It just made me wonder about large tables who do not check their bills is everyone being hit with an overcharge and if they get away with it fine and if not they sort it out!!!!I did enjoy my meal but in view of the aforementioned there is NO WAY I WOULD EVER GO BACK TO THAT RESTAURANT. One person on their own and and overcharge of nearly £6 and no apology no way. So in view of this I could not recommend them. Anyone eating there make sure you check you bill well!!

We arrived in the early evening for my birthday meal. We were greeted immediately by a friendly waiter who showed us to a table and took our drinks order. We were given poppadoms with a selection of dips (spicy onions, raita and mango chutney) as we perused the menu (these were given gratis as it was my birthday). Our drinks arrived and we placed our order with the very friendly waiter, i opted for the Chicken Kashmiri which was sweet and medium heat with fruit incorporated into the sauce and the chicken was beautifully cooked. We also ordered a portion of veg pakora and a peshwari naan, both of which were excellent. Our waiter made sure we were taken care if without disturbing us unduly and all 3 of us enjoyed our meals immensely. When the bill was brought it was slightly over £55 for everything including drinks which i consider very reasonable. I believe this is one of the best Indians in Aberdeen and the fact it has been there for so long attests to that. Definitely a must for any curry lover.

They serve average stander of food with wide selection. Not too impressive taste. The staff were nice and friendly. If you are close by you can try it.

This has been my favorite Indian for the past 20 years. Unfortunately my past few visits have been very unpleasant. Very rude unhelpful staff and average food. I won't be back or order a takeaway from here again. Time to find a new favorite

We walked in to be met with more staff than diners. No atmosphere which was made worse by the old men dithering about , probably the original owners trying to help, the food was just okay, no presentation to it at all. Staff were over attentive probably just because they were not busy. Sorry but I wouldn't recommend at all

I visited during work with a colleague. The service was fast and friendly. The food was really good, you get a decent portion from a wide range of choices. You can have a starter, main and coffee or desert for under £10! Great price for a proper Indian meal!

Having been a regular for 25 years, It is a disappointment to say that the food is going downhill. Very often the food is far too oily, if you want to spice up your dish they do it by throwing in chilli powder, which on several occasions was not cooked out, leaving a gritty texture. The Shabaaz is easily the restaurant and take away we have visited more than any other. They need to sharpen up in the face of other Indian restaurants of loose long term customers. I don't think I will ever be done with what was my favorite Indian eatery, but its getting close.

Went here with a friend. Went for a simple non - spicy chicken pasanda. Was ok but chicken was a little dry. Service was ok however not exactly the friendliest of staff. Overpriced also, however so is all the aberdeen curry houses.

We came across this restaurant while wandering about not knowing what we fancied for tea.we were outside looking at the menu when a women and her daughter just left after eating and my fiancée asked if it was any good.they recommended it highly and say they drive down from Fraserburgh just to come here.that was good enough for us and managed to get a table for 2 no problem although the restaurant was quite busy.the food was tasty and flavoursome, chicken tender and juicy and the garlic nan was delicious.we also had onion bahji and they were also good.the staff were friendly and the service was quick.we were sitting quite near the door and during our time there the number of people who came in ordering or picking up takeaways was unbelievable.clearly a popular place with locals and will definately be back again.

My husband has been going to this family owned restaurant for about 30 years and I joined him about 20 years ago. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful if you need some advice about the menu. The dining room is modern and elegant without a single piece of flock wallpaper in sight. There are nice private booths to seat 4 people comfortably round the edge of the room if you want a bit more privacy. The menu is quite a extensive and although I really try to have something different every time I go, I usually end up with the chicken nentara which is tomato based with lots of onions and a little bit of spice. My son likes a milder curry and he's settled on the shrimp korma which has banana in it - strange combo but he loves it! My husband loves the chicken Dansak or Dopiaza. After having a shared platter starter where we each have our favourites so less fighting, the mains complete with pilau rice, Naan and cucumber raita leave no room for pudding.... However we do sometimes make a visit to Baskin Robbins round the corner after. I've tried other Indian restaurants but nothing compares to our favourite

Some of my team members seemed to like it+i found it a little oily and the tandoori ok I guess but not fresh, just not my styleI prefer 8848 much more, by far - and these two restaurants are a 2-minute walk apart+8848 portions are much bigger+taste and presentation both are more delicate - so is the service

Used to eat here regularly as it was really good, not any more I'm afraid. From the waiter who doesn't know when to leave people alone to the most weird butter chicken I've ever had, a really taste, ess curry with a horrible story texture, was hugely disappointed as was really looking forward to good curry in Scotland - alas not to be, popadums they highlight I'm afraidRob

Had not been to Shabaaz for ages and thought we would have a nice Indian Take away, as entering the Restaurant there staff were very uninviting and looked miserable, When we took our food home we were extremely annoyed, as the main courses looked like soup with small bits of chicken swimming in grease, no fresh chilli's or colourful fresh peppers or onions for presentation. Really wasn't worth the money and wont be going back

Visited on a lunch time in December for a wee Xmas outing. Were there for 1 and a half hours and nobody else came in. Very slow service. Starters were good, mains so so. Mine was a Pathia but the sauce was more like a Chinese sweet and sour red sauce.Expensive, and owner/ manager who took payment was uninterested and didn't even say thanks or goodbye.

Went with a few people from work and had the more expensive business lunch. Have to say that the portions were quite small and I felt my dish was over spiced so I couldn't taste the lamb at all. It wasn't really as good as the reviews had suggested and was a bit expensive especially for the drinks.

Shabaaz was my first curry house experience ever, nearly 30 years ago now!Has been owned/run by the same people in all that time.Consistently busy, it's seen loads of other places come and go in that time. The décor has changed over time, as you would expect, but the food has remained the same high quality. It might not be the most authentic indian food available in the town, but it's damned nice. The owners are ageing now, I hope they find someone to keep it going.

First time here and what a meal. From the off, the staff were very nice, very presentable and always helping where we needed them. The food was absolute fantastic!! Best Indian I have had ever and I have tried a fair few. A lovely selection of malts to which I indulged in a heavenly Glenmorangie 25. Will be coming back thats for sure. One of Aberdeens finest Indian restaraunts. Upon leaving after our meal, every single member of staff on shift made the effort to say goodbye and thank us for our custom.

An excellent post shopping meal. The service was great and food lovelyOne small issue was that the way to the toilets was through a small alleyway where the bins were and being a hot day there were flies. This however did not affect or could be seen from the restaurant

Went for a meal on a Saturday night with a group of friends 7 in all, didnt book a table and was pleased to say that the management were very good to arrange a table for us at such short notice even though the restaraunt was busy. Service was very good and the meals were excellent, portions neither to small or large and food was tasty. Pricewise the cost was not too expensive and I would recommend Shabaaz as a place to visit, restaraunt has been there for 27years so testimony to its popularity.

A nice, classy setting in the quite small and cosy restaurant, provides an intimate environment to enjoy some delicious Indian food. The curry was really nice, I'm a fan of a hit curry and the Madras here had a real heat to it. One thing I would have liked to see would have been a selection of cider available. Unfortunately, there was no cider on offer.

Alone again (naturally. Ah Gilbert, shame about the tank top) I fancied a curry, checked Trip Advisor and went to the Shabaaz. First impressions were: staff a bit stoney faced but clean and modern decor. Chose the ubiquitous pint of Kingfisher and pickle tray and checked out the menu. I plumped for the Lamb Chop starter - very Lamby but delicious and spicy. One of the aforementioned stoney faced crew tried to take the chops away when clearly there was a morsel of meat on one of them. Mistake. The main course was King Prawn Karahi, pulao rice and an aircraft carrier sized garlic naan. Absolutely fabulous meal - rice perfectly cooked, naan garlicky, soft and melting, and curry just right. I counted 9 King Prawns!10/10 for the Granite City. Problem is where do I go tonight?
