Sblash Caban Pysgod in Gwynedd

Had the Fisherman's Platter to share - excellent fish and chips and friendly staff. Not licensed but you can bring your own booze.

It was my first time eating at sblash and what a wonderful experience, the food was 5 star,staff very friendly just amazing.In a party of 6 and sat by the lobster tank,the place was very busy but still managed to get the food to us very quickly and very warm, nothing was to much trouble but would like to thank tracey and huw made us feel at home and the service was 5 star, and a big thank you to the cook we asked tracey this name so thank you paul. Will be returning to this little diamond of a eatery see you next time.

Avoid. Very rude staff and mediocre food. The staff need a lesson or two in customer service here. You are an Inconvenience to them! Very abrupt, rude and the food is cold. Fish and chips is ok but not the best. Give it a miss and take a trip to the pub on the front instead.

Lack of open eateries in the village meant a visit to the popular chip shop where we sat in. We even took our bottle of Prosecco which we had half guzzled from the pub up the road (allowed 👍) Fish and chips ok but experience spoilt by piping hot mushy peas which burnt off the roof of my partners mouth 🥵 If a child there could have been screaming involved but lesson to be learnt here is turn the temperature down on the sauces!!! Manager advised who took on board feedback. It took a week for the skin to recover and soft food only!!!

Fabulous meal here again. Just 9 of us this year (not quite the 17 from 2022). Sharing platter again. Love this - great variety with cod, gurney, and scampi. Lovely. Amazing chips. Also ordered crab cakes which were great. Fizzy vimto. What’s not to like ?

We’ve been here for a week and this was best meal out around the peninsula by far. We had crab claws, crab cakes, spicy seaweed. All very tasty and kind and friendly staff. Will definitely return. Location is also fantastic right next to the river:

We called for fish and chips on a windy family day out. We decided to sit inside purely as it was windy and we didn’t want our food going cold quickly. Our food was very nice, the portions did seem a little on the small side but as I say was very tasty. What was very annoying was that in inside prices are much more expensive than take away prices (which i appreciate is normal) BUT yet are serves in the take away boxes rather than on plates and a number of people who had ordered take away came and sat inside as it started to drizzle. I appreciate people not wanting to eat outside when it’s raining but didn’t feel it was fair to pay so much more for the same service (paper trays) and ultimately the same seats. If you eat here just get the take away as the eat in feels a bit of a rip off.

Just had a portion of chips. Served promptly, but possibly the worst chips ever. Expected so much more. It was about 6.30pm. Don't know if that's relevant??

Decent chippy all in, staff pleasant and reasonably priced. Decent portions and quite an extensive menu on offer. Park at the National trust car park and walk over the bridge. Enjoy

Wonderful to see Sblash reopening after the winter. One of the best fish and chip shops around. The fisherman’s platter was great value and tasted great.

Had been looking forward to out visit all week. You can't book; our party of 7, arrived to find 2 customers seated at a table for 8, with other tables unoccupied. The young lady seemed anxious to discourage us from eating in and made no effort to help. I am sorry to say I found her to be rude. Reluctantly used the takeaway, shambolic, disorganised, with one customer having waited 40 minutes before politely complaining. To be fair, the food was great but my evening had been spoilt by that stage. A stark contrast with the welcome at Gwesty Ty Newydd. I will not bother visiting Sblash in future, as we were made to feel so unwelcome. Hugely disappointing

We ate inside and avoided the queues due to its popularity. Really quick service, really friendly, reasonably priced. The food was very tasty. I can tell the food was cooked in clean oil. The batter was so light and crispy. The chip test passed my very high standards. Overall we can highly recommend this place. Would come again.

Top top chippy ! We booked a month in advance for our group of 17. They were short staffed but still let us in. Fish platters were again spectacularly good. Beautifully battered fish (4 types) and mounds of chips. It’s BYOB as well which is good - so a pint of shipyard IPA went down well. Staff were v helpful. And laughed at our Hawaiian shirts. Can’t think why !!

Absolutely delicious fish and chips- best in the area we think. Lightly battered haddock and delicious chips. The homemade tarter sauce was perfect also! I only hope the next time we go that there is some lobster to try.

Ive made this trip advisor account purely to do this bad review. To start, the owner was rude and shouting at his staff members, more than likely making them feel belittled, if he can’t handle the busy days I suggest maybe hiring more staff members....

Drove over from Abersoch to get there at opening and beat the queue. Sitting and eating in the sun within 30 minutes. Food was superb.

Popped in early evening along with half of the Llyn Peninsula! We had visited before years ago and remembered the food being pretty good. We queued to order and then waited for our food outside in the sunshine with takeaway beers from the pub next...

Called in with the wife for a portion of cod, chips and peas after this chippy was recommended to us. We were not let down. Generous portion, decent price and a quality fish supper. Well worth a visit. Staff were polite and efficient and a good system of serving in place in line with covid requirements. Nice external seating area also.

Our planned Tuesday dinner of fish and chips was thwarted because Sblash Caban Pysgod was closed that day but it was worth the wait until Thursday and the number of people waiting for their order to then eat it on the tables alongside the river was evidence of its popularity. The cod was a very good size and came with plenty of chips. Mushy peas were good if a tad more expensive than expected. The potatoes are local and we watched them being delivered by tractor as we were eating.

Very popular for good reason. Great freshly cooked fish. Ideal setting to stop and watch the world go by.

Great fish & chip shop in lovely spot - by the stream running through the village down to the sea. Lots of tables to eat outside in comfort, stream side flowers everywhere, great chips & fish (& good veggie alternatives) & deservedly popular.

We came here with another couple to get some fish and chips to takeaway. There was a good queuing system and they take your name and say it over a microphone so you wait outside and go in when they are up to your order so you can tell them whether you want salt and vinegar. I thought that was a genius idea! There is plenty of benches outside with a beautiful view. There is no parking outside however, there is a car park round the corner which is £4 that you put in an honesty box. You could take your food and eat it on the beach. The packaging is all compostable as well which is important for us. I would definitely recommend this if you were visiting Aberdaron.

Today we drove from Pwllheli to Aberdaron to have fish & Chips & Lobster Tails ( recommendation by a friend).Fish is advertised as lightly battered: I asked for a light batter to make sure. It certainly wasn’t light! It was a thick stodgy mess uncooked inside & the fish was probably refried from an earlier order as totally dry. The oil is probably used to fry everything in it as the chips had a lingering taste of other food. A small pot of “home made “ tartare sauce & two sachets of ketchup £1.25. A can of coke £1.30 (local shop sells at £1.00 chilled.)The view was pleasant onto the stream but the food was horrendous. Showed it to the young assistant:” sorry about that.”A jacket potato or crab with brown bread further up would have been better! A total disappointment!

We visited on Saturday 1st May, unfortunately we were less than impressed with the quality - we had fish and chips and fish cake and chips. The fish cake was nice as was the fish, but the chips had clearly been cooked in old over used oil as they were brown with a greasy over cooked taste. We had asked for salt and vinegar but we got the smallest amount that neither of us could taste and the chips were cold. It’s disappointing when you charge what you charge. The next evening we went to the hut on the beach for a take away pizza which I can highly recommend.

Really good food. Fantastic and friendly service. I was so pleased to see their menu announce vegan options too eg cauliflower bites (in a really tasty batter) they also offered a bean burger and other sides. They provide a small gluten free menu Brilliant to see that they are catering for different dietary requirements

We had the special fish chips and peas - plenty to share. Excellent quality and very nice staff. We will visit again when we return to Wales

I booked on facebook. I received a reply very quickly. The lady I chatted to, was very friendly and picked up that I was a Rugby fan and so we had a little discussion about the sport. When we arrived, we were shown to our table very promptly. It was a good roomy table. There is an excellent menu choice. My 3 year Grandson had a large chips and he soon polished those off. I went for the haddock and chips, with homemade tartare sauce. This sauce was food of the Gods, as was the whole meal. The young chap who served us was very polite and attentive and he brought our order out, without any wait. I enjoyed a chip butty, with the lovely fresh buttered baps they sell. An excellent meal. 10 out of 10. It was more than worth the drive from Nefyn. This is a very scenic route.

A trip to the seaside should always involve fish n chips, and these did not disappoint. They are slightly higher in price than usual, but the quality was excellent. Not greasy and the fish was really chunky and good sized portions. Gem of a place

Ist visit fish missing from order, no apology when I had to return ( putting a few chips with the fish which was given to me might have made me feel happier) minuscule amount of peas on meal.2nd visit a good dollop of peas on meal.The fish described as large are really just larger than a mini fish so you don't really get flakes of cod but the batter is light and crispy and the chips really good.I have had better

Take away queues were massive but we had booked to site in the restaurant. Haddock was gorgeous with lovely light crispy batter, and chips were cooked perfectly for us. Both my wife and I said the fish and chips were some of the best we have had.Covid guidelines were followed with one way system, hand sanitiser etc etc

My partner and I both had cod and chips here and it was lovely the batter was perfect, nice and crispy. Such a shame that the condiments were terrible. Cheap ketchup and tarter sauce. Strongly suggest they invest in some Heinz ketchup and change the brand of tarter sauce they use or make it homemade. We also had to wait a very long time for our food so don’t visit if you’re in a rush. Would definitely return but might bring my own condiments.

In the quarter of a century I have been alive and eating fish and chips this is possibly the best fish and chips I’ve had, perfect portion sizes, reasonable price and lovely flavour. The staff were very nice and accommodating and it was a friendly atmosphere inside, I cannot fault the meal, the staff or the location. Perfection!

A very busy place. Ques were very long. Ordered cod meal deal which was nice but peas extremely dry. I ordered haddock but it was cod. Burger was ok. Chips were very nice. There were benches outside but we chose to sit on the beach as the benches were far too close to ever encroaching ques of people outside.

Large family feed, most commented that the fish batter was dense and soggy. Personally part of my fish tasted of potato but it may have just been uncooked batter. Chips were only ok. Sauces were fine. We’ve had better here before. Lovely clean premises and very polite staff so must have just been a blip.

Delicious fish and chips - incredibly crispy batter with a huge piece of cod. Sat on the tables by the river in the evening sunshine after a day of walking along the peninsula and bodyboarding at Aberdaron. A memorable last meal of our North Wales trip!

Aberdaron should always have a Fish and Chip restaurant being at the end of this gorgeous Llyn Peninsula.

We had fish and chips to take away when staying nearby. They were reasonably priced and involved a short wait as the fish were cooked to order. Lots of choice and the option to eat in if you wish. It’s also dog friendly. The fish was tasty, the chips excellent and the mushy peas spot on. What more can you want from fish and chips.

First visited when just a hut. Never lets us down. Great fish and chips in fantastic location. Not expensive. eat in or take away.

No more I can say other than consistently outstanding on taste and texture. Simply beautiful! Never mind all these other award winners around the country. Sblash blows all competitors out of the water!

In the lovely village of Aberdaron, takeway on the seafront, a late September balmy evening....of course it was good.

We happened across this lovely fish and chips place after a good long walk on this part of the Llyn Peninsula and were very pleasantly surprised with the sharing platter with deliciously fresh mackerel, gunard and cod with yummy dips and tasty chips. Great value for money and such friendly staff. Just the ticket if you've walked for hours in the sunshine.

Stuck for somewhere to eat as pubs booked up we decided on a takeaway, but when we went into Splash we decided to eat in as it looked so nice. The food was excellent traditional fish and chips for hubby Chinese chicken curry and rice for me as I have a fish allergy both meals were excellent and very good value, highly recommended

Keep this simple. Fresh cooked amazing fish and chips served by lovely people in a beautiful setting. Eat in or out. You’ll struggle to finish it but that highlights the value for money. We are a family of nine stretching from 5 years old to a couple of septuagenarians. Plenty of room for us inside or out. Heartily recommended.

We visited with a group of adults and children and ordered a few meals. The food took ages and one of the meals took around 40 minutes. We asked a couple of times as the rest of our group had finished and the kids were getting restless and the staff were rude, clueless and unapologetic. They made it sound like our problem. Particularly frustrating as it would've taken less than 5 minutes to prepare. I understand it was a busy evening but the ordering system needs work and your staff need some customer service training. Took the shine off an otherwise great evening in Aberdaron.

Exactly what I was looking for, fresh and crispy battered haddock, big fat chips that were done to a tee, friendly and efficient service, decent portions without being ridiculously huge, good curry sauce!! Would like to see cardboard packaging instead of polystyrene for take out but hey! The tartar sauce / home made was also tip top!!!

My partner and I visited Aberdaron recently to visit some friends. Before we went home we decided to have a spot of dinner as it was getting late (around 7.45pm). We went in, placed our order at the counter and paid, and then went to sit down. There was only one other occupied table in the restaurant at this time, and they already had their meals. After chatting a while we noticed that half an hour had passed since we placed our order. As we pondered what to do our food finally arrived, with no apology for the delay whatsoever. As we were starving at this point (it was getting on for 8.15pm) we decided to eat what I can only describe as a mediocre meal, with the stingiest of portions. I couldn't recommend this place as it was overpriced for the amount of food you get and was by no means the tastiest fish & chips I've ever had. If you do go there be prepared for a long wait. We realised as we left that they also have a takeaway section which was busy, so they obviously prioritised those customers (even though you pay a premium to eat inside the restaurant!). Poor customer service, definitely wouldn't return.

We’re staying locally and decided to try them.

We travelled to Aberdaron from Nefyn. What beautiful scenery and very atmospheric with the mist on the mountains. We had our 2 year + grandson with us, and he is perpetual motion squared, it was going to be challenging meal. As soon as he had his meal, he tucked and was very quiet. I had crap cakes, which as my daughter said were so full of crab meat , they were dense! They and the chips were delicious. I had some of wife's haddock, as it was a big fillet. It was some of the best deep fried fish I have ever tasted. A nice touch was that they had buttered baps, instead of bread. The premises were very clean and the staff most helpful and friendly. I am definitely going back for the sharing platter, which sounds amazing and includes Red Gurnard.

Just order the sharing platter. Honestly guys, get a licence for a little white wine and the world is your oyster. Fresh fish from the bay, great service and sitting outside by the river as the sun goes down...ace.

We had to give Sblash - Caban Pysgod/Fish Bar in Aberdaron a visit. So on Father’s day we descended on this lovely place what a find – it was just after 4pm and the heavens opened so we went in and grabbed a table (BTW tables are not top of another one which is what happens in a lot of places), lovely the driftwood light shades and simple décor.

We were staying locally and visited for some fish and chips! They were lovely with the batter being very light and the chips cooked well. There were also other options on the menu such as crab cakes, lobster tails and pies.

As a family we like basic fish and chips and always go-for-it when on the coast. We now have some expertise in knowing what is good and what we like. Unfortunately the F&C; at this establishment has to work harder to improve its basics. The fried fish does not taste fresh, batter is too oily and not fully cooked through and the chips clearly are not fresh (reheated we think). Easy to hide in a take-away box ! We also noticed that at this chippie they serve larger portions for eat-in and smaller for take away. (to fit the size of the takeaway box!?). Mushy peas are average quality and microwaved. For our family the price was higher than the East Coast of england and portions smaller. We kindly recommend that the owners try the chippie in Huntstanton as a starter to get ideas on how to improve.

Absolutely fantastic fish & chips shop. Staff were brilliantly friendly. We were seated and immediately tended to. It was recommended that I try the lobster tail and I was not disappointed! Delicious, full of flavour and came with a mound of chips and sweet chilli sauce. Atmosphere brilliant, food quality unrivalled and the best staff you could hope for.

The dearly beloved and I found ourselves in this part of the world mid-April ready for something fresh and hot after our leg tingly drive through Snowdonia. We both opted for scampi & chips at an outside table with the sun on our backs. It was lovely to hear the children around us speaking their native tongue, despite only being on a day trip for a delivery, it really felt like being on holiday. I loved the fact that the board in the shop laid out exactly how local everything was - even down to the rapeseed oil! Impressive. Lunch arrived swiftly with courteous service all round, scampi some of the sweetest I’ve had and chips salted and vinegared to just the right degree. Highly recommended with a return trip definitely on the cards.

Fab fish platter enjoyed this evening by my family. Cooked fresh to order and absolutely delicious. Super service too. Only 4 stars as our two previous visits last year were rather underwhelming but after giving it another go sblash has redeemed itself and we'll definitely be back!! Thanks

I have to say probably the best fish and chips I’ve had anywhere. The batter was perfect. Bit of a queue and lack of tables though. They should do something about that! There was a surreal heron there again. I think it lives there. They shouldn’t charge for ketchup. Seems a bit stingey. What’s with the funny welsh name?

It’s a bit of a drive for us to use regularly but boy was it worth it. It’s exactly what you would expect from a plate of fish and chip. I will let the Photo speak for itself. Whilst dining we did witness the staff going out of their way to help another customer which was great to see.

Visited here on Sunday for fish and chips,so glad that we did,staff were very friendly,the place itself was spotlessly clean & the food was beautiful,we will definitely call here again next time we come over to stay.

We stopped here purely by chance. So glad we did. It was first class in every way. We decided to take advantage of the outdoor seating. With its stunning location by the water. Food was served very quickly. We both opted for scampi and chips. Firstly the chips were so good,I could have easily had a serving if just those. Scampi was piping hot. With perfect batter, and tasted so fresh. Without doubt the best scampi and chips I've had. We both agreed to plan a trip back this way later in the year. Even if it is 4 hours away.

We had one cod and chips and one haddock and chips. Haddock was very good but the cod was not fresh. Service was fine but the lady accidentally overcharged us by £5. This was quickly rectified when questioned. We were going to use the cafe but they let dogs inside and I feel this is totally incompatible with a food establishment.

Not one to usually leave a review but this was the best fish and chips ive ever had absolutely first class in every way thank you for a fab dinner

We went here last year in July, after a day on the beach, with 2 small children (both being picky eaters). We were first of all greeted with a smile from the staff, who were very accommodating. They were happy to help with all the little ones requests. We all thoroughly enjoyed our food, including the little ones! Will be returning when we go to Aberdaron again. The fish and chips here are very average....waiting time is excessive and the owner is very very arrogant...been here on several occasions and always poor service ...tried to suggest improvement and owner laughed....sure they do well in summer but overall very poor - lots of nicer places around and maybe better to go elsewhere

We have dogs so queued for the take away. This took ages, each order is prepared individually which I can see the appeal of, however, the volume of people waiting for their orders demonstrates the impracticality of this. Many people were complaining. When yhey did arrive the fish and chips were great but my husband had beans and they looked like they had been sat about for weeks as well as being the tiniest portion I have ever seen.

We ordered fish suppers for 8 people only on of whom was gluten free. The staff were brilliant and used a separate fryer for gf food and placed it in a separate bag without asking. The chips were amazing and I wish I lived nearer as I would go every Friday

We visit Aberdaron every year and have had very good fish and chips here in the past. We are back this year and our first night treat was fish, chips and mushy peas all round. The fish was of exceptionally high quality...white, chunky, meaty and flavoursome. The batter was crisp and light. The chips were delicious and plentiful. The peas were also very very good. My kids (15, 11 and 7) said it was the best fish and chips they've ever had. We will be back again and again and again!

Family of three shared the fish platter. My daughter doesn’t usually have a big appetite but we were fighting over the scraps. Batter was light and crispy as were the chips. Checked out trip advisor when got back to campsite and couldn’t believe that there were poor reviews. I suppose being on the end of the Llyn they must struggle to find staff from time to time. Staff tonight were friendly and efficient. Great to see a business like this doing something simple so well. Well done Sblash. Big thumbs up from us

Over priced and young male staff more interested in chatting to friends than serve. Very slow to receive chips and curry but was nice when we got it. Could be better
