Saute Grill in St Albans

I had a lovely meal at Saute for my friends 50th birthday. There was a large group of us and we had hot and cold meze to start followed by the set menu. The food was amazing. The lobster soup was the best I have ever had and the seafood linguine was amazing. Portions were very generous. Everyone in the party enjoyed the food. The service was really good- staff were so attentive and couldn’t do enough . Good range of drinks too- first time I have had an Efes beer- lovely! Finished off with an Irish coffee which went down well. I am annoyed I haven’t tried this restaurant before - I will definitely be back !

Keep forgetting to write review about this wonderful place . I have probably been eating in or getting takeaways from Saute for at least 6 years . This place is so under rated . The food is amazing and reasonable priced , portions are a good size and the staff are just amazing . If you’ve never been please try , you won’t be disappointed 🙏🏾

First class service backed up by excellent food. The cocktails are amazing. Could not recommend more highly. The mushroom starter is wonderful as is the king prawn. The kebabs and lamb chops first class. Thanks to all of the team.

This Turkish restaurant is located just off the main street in St Albans. It has a pleasant interior and excellent staff. We both had lamb chops for dinner which were excellent quality. It was proceeded by complimentary flatbread and hummus which was very good.

Superb food, great service and a lovely atmosphere. We were here to celebrate our son' s 50th and it couldn't have been better. Thank you so much for your excellent care and professionslism. We will be back!

Not worth the money, very very expensive and the service wasn't that good, even the food I wasn't impressed with it we had to return some food back as there was so much salt in it ,

After reading reviews on here we decided to try Saute out. We were not disappointed ! I don't normally write reviews but as it was so good I had too ! Crab Salad & Chestnut mushroom to start, both were incredible, presentation was lovely & the taste was perfect on both. We both had the Moroccan Lamb shank which was sublime ! Cooked to perfection, the sauce was lovely as were the flavour's of all together. The Service was extremely good and the decor and attention to detail was amazing We will be back !

The service was impeccable and the food was very tasty. I would have liked to have some rice included with my veggie moussaka, but it was OK as I shared the one my partner had with his shish. I would definitely recommend and I'm looking forward to coming back again.

We made a late booking, choosing having seen good reviews on this site. We were so impressed, you a really warm, friendly & genuine welcome here. The food was absolutely delicious & well presented. Staff are really attentive, without being intrusive & we enjoyed every minute. I would highly recommend this gem of a restaurant, just couldn’t fault it in any way.

Ate here tonight and really enjoyed it. Gave it a go based on its ratings on here and we weren’t disappointed. The manager was spot on, hospitable and professional and moved the two of us to a table of four when we ordered the shared meze, se we’d have more space. The food was delicious and very beautifully presented. Nice environment and background music at the right volume. Good value cost too - cheaper than other restaurants that have food that doesn’t match it here. Will definitely return.

This place it hidden from the high street but they provide Excellent service and delicious food good value of money and lovely atmosphere we will be back

Came here on the off chance as we were staying in a hotel around the corner and what an amazing find. The food, service and atmosphere were fabulous. We had the 3 course special and couldn't fault anything at all. If we are ever down this way again will definitely come back. Thank you for a lovely evening

We went with family for a birthday celebration. The food was lovely and well cooked, however, the portions were small for the high price The chicken shish, was £17 for literally 6 pieces of chicken and some salad. No rice, or chips. Those were another £5 on top. The mixed grill for 2,at £40 sounded like a lot of food. However, You get 1 small chop, 2 small wings and 1 square of chicken and lamb each shish, with some rice and salad. It's a lovely restaurant, and I know St Albans is an expensive area, but at such high prices, and with so many good reviews, I was expecting better, and definitely more food!

Not tried many Turkish restaurants before, but this was amazing. Food really well cooked, nice choice and reasonably priced too. Staff were really friendly. We had the couples mixed grill and added a bread and it was more than enough. Great find

Such a let down. They’ve changed the menu, portion sizes are so small, definitely do not get your moneys worth. Such a shame used to be my favourite place, sadly won’t be going back. Food arrived cold, chicken was very dry. Can’t even get waiter/waitress attention. There’s plenty of Turkish restaurants in St Albans, highly recommend checking then out first before coming here.

Had an excellent meal last night (Sunday). Starter were tasty and generous. The special - swordfish was especially good. Along with a decent Turkish white and professional, courteous, smart and helpful staff a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Recommend yet again.

The food was really bland and plain. A few of us ordered the chicken / lamb saute (which I assume is their specialty) and were asked if we wanted it spicy. We all said yes and proceeded to receive the most bland and unspicy food. Mine was just chunks of chicken in a very thin 'sauce' with no flavour. The rice was also undercooked and plain. Service was poor as well. Another guest asked for a mixed platter and specified that they did not eat beef (as we're from a hindu family), so asked to swap the lamb & beef adana for more lamb. This was forgotten and by the time they realised they had eaten the adana, it was too late. They told the waitress, who apologised and took fault (but that didn't really help solve anything) and then another waiter insisted it was fine as they changed the adana recipe to only include lamb. Even though the menu hadn't been updated and the waitress never said this when discussing the beef issue. So that came across as a complete lie. The guests asked for the replacement lamb that was originally requested, which eventually came right at the end of the meal. Every service request had to be repeated (asking for dips, asking for the bill, asking for drinks) as the waiters kept forgetting and there was no attentiveness. We sat with empty drinks for most of the meal. Overall a really disappointing experience, especially for such a highly reviewed restaurant.

Eaten in several times and reviewed before but now they are doing take away and delivery wanted to review again. This place was probably our favourite restaurant in St Albans and now due to lockdowns it’s become a favourite take away. The food travels really well, is as good as when we eat in and piping hot. They also use recyclable materials which is nice to see. Always a really friendly service and delivered quick. Couldn’t recommend enough

Considering all the Covid social considerations that the restaurant had to put place due to the Gov guidelines, the staff made you feel welcome. The restaurant is conveniently situated with some free parking (after 6pm) nearby. The food was decent enough without being spectacular, and the service was reasonable, however the staff gave the impression that they would rather be elsewhere. Bit like life on Mars, not much atmosphere.

Had dinner last night (Wednesday 23/9). After a shared calamari starter (very good) we opted for the mixed vegetarian platter for 2. An excellent choice. Great variety and generous portions as well as being value for money.The coronavirus procedures were thorough and strictly adhered to and the staff were professional, courteous and friendly.We’ll be back soon. We ate here last week and it was really good. The staff were all wearing face shields and there was plenty of space between diners even though it was a busy service. We shared a cold mezze starter and then a mixed grill. This wasn't the average mixed grill with way too much overcooked meat though. This was well-seasoned and very tasty meat including a fabulous lamb chop.We had a fab meal and would definitely go back.

Dinner at Saute was very enjoyable. The staff were efficient but it must be very difficult to look after guests when wearing visors. Sign in and hand gell to the table. We had kebab and Dover sole meuniere which were excellent. Would definitely go again when in St Albans.

Having read the reviews we went here for dinner. The staff are very well geared towards the current Covid situation. We were seated at the table and straight away a bottle of hand sanitizer was provided for us and a list to fill in our contact details. The staff also were also wearing masks/visors. The food was lovely even though a tad on the pricey side. Portion sizes were good. I felt that at times the waiters would just disappear and we were left waiting. For instance they didn’t give us any menus or say anything but after a while we noticed a QR code on the table and when we scanned that the menus came up on our phones. It was a bit fiddly trying to see quite an extensive menu on a small phone screen. But all in all it was a pleasant evening. I loved the vegetarian moussaka. Would definitely recommend this restaurant!

We went for a meal on one of the nights of eat out to help out. Firstly greeted by a grumpy man at the door. There was no menu to look at, we were told to look it up on our phones! ( Having been in many restaurants during this period I have always been given a menu either or disposable paper or laminated so can be cleaned) We found this awkward. The food was very nice but expensive. 3 of us had a starter and main course each, 4 glasses of wine between us and even with the £30 discount ( £10 each for eat out to help out ) the bill came to £85!!. There were 2 staff, one male and one female who basically stood guard near out table the whole table - obviously not enough to do but it made us feel uncomfortable. The lady who served us was not at all friendly and was impatient with us when we were not ready to order. We felt rushed to leave as if they desperately needed our table.We would not return.

I’ve been to the Sauté Grill 3-4 times. It’s good but if you love Turkish food and higher-end restaurants, it won’t wow you. Don’t believe the 5 star reviews. I judge a Turkish restaurant by the quality of its hummus, the accompanying bread, and the lamb for mains. Hummus and bread are cheap to make so it’s got to be fantastic every time. In contrast, the quality of lamb is usually correlated to how much you’re paying. I don’t have lamb at a cheap Turkish restaurant because it will invariably be a cheaper cut and will either be too fatty or lean but taste like dog food. Safer to stick with chicken. Chicken has the variability of bananas, lamb has the variability of wine. The hummus at Sauté Grill was near supermarket standard and presentation. It tasted chilled, so presumably pre-prepared ahead of a busy Saturday evening. It had a texture like cottage cheese, so you could cut it and it would nearly hold its shape around the edges. Hummus should be smooth and oily. There was no oil drizzled on top, no paprika dusting, no whole chick peas sprinkled on, and very oddly, pieces of chopped carrot and cucumber mixed in. (Note to Sauté Grill chef, this is what I do to get my kids to eat vegetables, you don’t need to do this). There was nothing wrong with the bread that came with the hummus, it was a good portion and fresh, but not warm, slightly warm and moist is best. The lamb was excellent. High end Turkish restaurant standard, not as much as I’d like for £19, but the portion was OK. What annoyed me was the absence of rice, I assume you have to order that separately. £19 for lamb shish is pricey, rice is cheap so don’t be stingy. If a restaurant is stingy with me, I’ll be stingy back in what I eat and drink, and how frequently I go.There was no Efes Draft, just standard Efes, which is non-descript and tasteless, the Turkish equivalent of Bud Light. How can you open without a full fridge of Efes Draft? That’s like an Indian restaurant with no Cobra, a Chinese restaurant with no Tsing Tao, a Japanese restaurant with no Asahi. Finally, it’s always nice to get some free Turkish Delight at the end of a meal but best to have 1 small piece of good quality authentic Turkish Delight per customer than the overly rosey tasting tourist stuff Sauté Grill served. Not quite Fry’s Turkish Delight but half way there. Service was top quality, the staff were absolutely lovely, Covid hygiene and distancing was excellent, probably the best I’ve seen in a re-opened restaurant. Cutlery was served in paper bags, a really nice touch. Big up to the tall waiter with the long legs. Really lovely guy and a credit to the restaurant, he helped make our evening a fun one. So 4 stars, could easily be 5, hummus needs to be more authentic, freshly processed, served at room temperature, with a drizzle of olive oil and a dusting of paprika. Finally, stop scrimping on rice and fries with the mains, they’re expensive enough, even for St Albans.

We had a great time at Sauté Bar yesterday. It was our first restaurant visit after lockdown and they had all the precautions in place i.e. screens between tables and waiters had face screens and gloves on so we felt very comfortable. The food was amazing particularly the garlic mushrooms for starters and the cocktails were delicious and presented so nicely. Glad to see this restaurant is taking their customers safety seriously during such a worrying time.

Ex-cell-ent!!Couldn’t wait to go out tonight and we were not disappointed....the service was perfect as always, the food was delicious and although it was very quiet when we got there it soon became busier but not too busy. The staff were all wearing visors or face masks, with gloves on and there were screens between each table. Cutlery was served in packaging with a napkin.We had a lovely meal and it was nice to be in a restaurant being served really good food by friendly staff. Thank goodness.

We ordered our first takeaway from Sauté Grill we ordered the meat plater for 2 it was good value and enjoyable and the Turkish delights were a nice touch.

Booked for Sauté and when we arrived we were seated on the right by the front door and large window, which was freezing and made for an awful experience throughout the night. As people next to us left we tried to move across but my bf was so cold he did not relax through the entire meal. We went for a nice couples meal and the waiter was very enthusiastic, V good. The hot meze starters came very quickly and were very tasty! Deceiving as it didn’t look much but very filling and the calamari is excellent! The main came, we both went for a mixed grill and the kofte was excellent but the lamb cutlet was pure fat literally PURE FAT and the smaller bits of kebab were chewy. Would highlight to people to request seats not near any windows during colder months

I went here on Valentine’s Day with my son (so lovely surrounded by happy couples haha) and even though it was very busy the service was efficient. Have been a few times to this stylish Turkish Restaurant. Great service and Great food. Menu includes some non-Turkish options which I guess is reassuring if you’re not sure you’ll enjoy the Turkish food. (Having said that I can’t think why you wouldn’t, it’s all very good).
