Great Japanese food and good service!

I wasn't a huge fan of the agedashi tofu because it was missing the usual bonito flakes but the sasa set more than made up for it. The rice was fresh and well done and the fish was all very fresh. I'd come here again!

Had dinner with my partner and a friend. We had some issues on our end with making the reservation and our activities for the evening. Tiukan, the waiter, was very understanding and accommodating. The food was also wonderful, and the atmosphere very pleasant. Wonderful experience, would come again

such a cute, family-owned restaurant! our experience was excellent start to finish. the staff were very attentive and the quality of food was just perfect. temaki, wagyu skewers, eel nigiri, volcano maki roll …. so many good options. i’m so happy to have this gem in my neighbourhood.

Top notch! Forget sushi samba, this is one of the best restaurants we’ve been to in London. And the best Japanese restaurant. Everything we tried was great but the stand out dish for me was the sashimi is truly amazing. The staff were great and very friendly.

Actually we random searched nearby restaurant which not far from our hotel and we were lucky to get table because we didnt know that we had to book prior and we didnt expect that small restaurant offered very yummy japanese food, i loved miso soup, it was simple but the taste of soup totally different which i had before and sushi is very delicious and fresh fish.

Some of the most enjoyable sushi and sashimi I've had. The restaurant has recently been refurbished as well with a modern updated look.

We booked some time in advance and got a confirmation but our booking was cancelled 1 hour before. Nobody picked up when we called.

Great experience at Sasa with lots of variety on not just fish but the preparation as well which I love. Quality was great and Staff are super friendly. Price is also very reasonable for London, would definitely recommend. Note that some items aren't always available like oysters and uni so worth double checking before going if that is what you're after.

Tried SASA for the first time. It was above average. Karage and whitebait tempura were great. The sashimi was good but not great. Really disappointing to be going to a popular restaurant at 8pm on a Saturday night and multiple basic items on the menu not being available not including seasonal items such as uni) Would try other places before I went back

Small and intimate restaurant, with very fresh quality food, nicely presented and served by knowledgeable staff who recommended the best way to eat it to be enjoyed to the fullest. I will go back, for sure!

Had a lovely meal and the sushi was fantastic. The orange wine was lovely and a must try! We had the ebi tempura, edamame & crispy salmon to start. The crispy salmon was fantastic and a definite must have. For mains we had the jumbo & wagyu beef rolls along with the sasa selection which were all lovely. We had a fantastic waiter and waitress to start, the waitress even gave my partner a small glass of sake on the house as he was really interested in trying it which was a lovely personal touch. The only thing that let our experience down was our final waiter, we knew the table was needed back for 7:30, we had been there since 6 and were aware of this from the start however, we had half a glass of wine left each and had spent £140, the waiter was pushy about us leaving and did not offer us the bar area to finish our wine, he also checked our wine bottle and was really unprofessional and quite frankly rude. This really soured our experience and I hope this was just an unfortunate one off as the rest of the staff were fantastic along with the food and we would love to return. I am not naive to know it was a Saturday night and tables are booked but there should have been an alternative option of the bar to reside to as there was a leak on our table next to us clearly limiting their space for the evening - again we were completely unbothered by this! This could have been handled better and I would have no doubt rated this 5/5.

Great Japanese food and great service

This is a really excellent little resturant. We are lucky to have this so close to Sadler's Wells. It only has a small number of covers so you may not get in but when you do it is well worth it. Excellent cooking and really lovely service. Many thanks for our late booking on Friday.

I will be thinking about this sushi for truly the rest of my life. Sasa sushi is located in Angel Islington, and is family run for more than 15 years. My partner chose this as it was very easy to access from the tube. We made a reservation on their website and got in a little early. Our server Tommy was so kind and so knowledgeable. We started off with Sho Chiku Bai NIGORI which was a cold unfiltered sake. It was so silky smooth and tommy told us of a common tradition of how to drink the first taste of sake to honor those who came before US. He also gave us amazing recommendations. We got 2 rolls each and felt like we were satisfied not to the point of being bloated which is always the best. The rolls we got were Dragon Eye roll, Rainbow roll, Crunchy Tuna Roll, and the Volcano Roll. One other thing to mention is they are so accommodating to gluten allergies. They helped my partner know which rolls could be modified. Everything was so so so fresh and truly incredible. The ambiance is cozy and perfect for a date night or after work dinner. Thank you Tommy and everyone for an amazing experience and the best food.

This is honestly the best sushi I have ever eaten! It was so fresh, flavourful and the waiter recommend us another sushi dish and it was amazing. Great value for money and honestly better than the really expensive places such as Roka, sticks n sushi etc. Every thing we ordered melted in the mouth and the best part was the service. I would 100% return and haven’t stopped recommending it to people!

ちょっと高めの日本のお寿司屋さんです。 天ぷらと揚げ出し豆腐が美味しかったです。 寿司は白身魚が美味しくオススメです。 ホタテとサーモンエビは普通。味噌汁も、まぁまぁと言ったところです。値段は高め。入る時にはあっさりしている感じだが、中に入ると素晴らしい。

Truly one of the best sushi I've ever had so far in London. I'm from NY and have pretty high standards for sushi. I've tried so many places in London so far, and they always get it wrong with the rice/fish ratio. Always too much rice, and the fish quality is subpar, rolls uninspiring. Sasa though gets it right every time and the kimchee mayo they use is so so delicious. The spicy scallop roll is delicious and this is the only place I can find that serves it. Please don't ever remove that from the menu 🙏. So happy you are only 10 mins away from me! Keep up the great food👍

Without a doubt, the best sushi I have had in London. A unique and very charming restaurant with a well-crafted menu and lovely and helpful staff. The jalapeño ceviche was incredible. Perfect date spot, would highly recommend!

Unfortunately, the food here was subpar at best. Lacked flavor and options and service was mediocre. The place is small and really loud, as all other tables echoed around you. If you are seeking sushi, there are plenty of better places to go.

I went to Sasa back in June when the friends I was hanging out with decided they wanted Sushi. I've never been a big fan of Sushi (or seafood in general) but thought I would give it a go. I was absolutely blown away by the food - so much so, I would now consider myself a convert. There was so much flavour and you could tell that the ingredients used were of the highest quality. The lychee cocktail that had recently been added to the menu when I went was absolutely incredible and full of flavour. Whilst the restaurant is on the smaller side, I would describe this as quite intimate. The establishment has a lovely buzz from the chefs creating the fantastic dishes amid the background conversations of other customers. I would recommend everyone to visit here if you're around the area.

The food is amazing 🤩 definitely very tasty 🤤 however it is quite pricey … especially if you are like me - ordering everything on the menue haha The service was good, staff is very friendly

Best hidden gem Japanese restaurant in London

I want to start with the lovely staff! They were very helpful about deciding on our order and made great choices. We started with rock shrimp tempura. Definitely recommended especially due to its slightly spicy mayo sauce. We also tried rainbow, crunchy tuna roll and dragon eye. If I would rate them, I would put crunchy on top, then, rainbow, then dragon but they were all amazing. And the prices are great for this quality. Also, we went on a weekday around 7 pm without reservation and we were able to find a table.

Absolutely fantastic food so fresh so well prepared and presented and of the highest quality. The tuna just melted in the mouth my favourite were the tempura prawns so big and hot and light yummy. Lovely bottle of cold beer and very helpful and genuinely nice service

Sasa was a lovely dining experience, best staff! As I checked on Instagram it was a family business. I really enjoyed my time here and they had an amazing service 😁 We celebrated my sister's 24th birthday and she loved it! The food was good but it may need some more seasoning overall I would recommend this place for small dates or small gatherings ☺️ The price was worth it for the amount of sushi and other dishes we had. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Another hidden gem - Mayfair quality sushi without the crazy price tag, wonderful staff and cosy interior (recently refurbished). Absolutely delicious! Recommend sitting at the counter if you want to watch the magic happen

Lovely fresh tasty food, I had the Sasa set and a Kirin, hoping to then try something else from the menu. Sadly I was too full so settled for a glass of plum wine. Friendly staff, and I will definitely be going back next time I'm in the area.

There are good sushi restaurants in London, but at this price point? This is seriously the best one! It's so good that I forgot to take photos. We ordered a few rolls because we're not too hungry but we devoured it because it just tasted amazing, the hamichi was my favorite and my friend loved the fried softshell crab. Will definitely revisit for their Nigiri😍

This restaurant is a must do. The food is exquisite. Each dish is delicately and freshly seasoned yet has so much flavour. Outstanding were rock shrimp tempura , ebi shumai (prawn dumpling) , wakame goma (seaweed salad with sesame) , wagyu beef skewers,. then we had the kosho ponzu sashimi ( thinly sliced scallop in amazing citrus marinade of kosho( chilli condiment) and tobiko (like caviar) yuzu (wonderful citrus fruit) was absolutely out of this world. the sushi looked amazing but as I am not a rice fan I stuck to the amazing alternatives. The restaurant itself is calming and the chairs and decor very minimal Japanese. the staff are absolutely lovely - the restaurant is family owned apparently. They are all very welcoming and attentive. They do a citrus margarita which is to die for - yuzu again. and sake very good too. I would eat here every day if I didn't live in Berkshire!

This place isn't talked about enough. Beautiful interior decor and cutlery. Drinks are so good especially the lychee martini. For food, crunchy tuna roll, aubergine, chutoro nigiri, wagyu beef roll, yellowtail sashimi and yellowtail jalapeños were so good. Definitely visiting again anytime I'm in London.

Had dinner at Sasa last night - genuinely a gem - the sushi/sashimi was of a very high standard. We went after a show at Sadlers Wells - the kitchen was open till 10.30 - so ideal - recommended

Simply brilliant. This is a tiny restaurant, on a not very smart street in Islington. We first went in on an off chance, Have now had three further meals here and it never disappoints. The food is freshly prepared to order and is simply delicious. All the staff are very friendly. And prices are very reasonable. I cannot recommend highly enough.

It is a really nice place, good pace on serving the different dishes, and some gems in the menu (highly recommend the nigiris, see below). We ordered 2 starters: veg gyozas (which were nice) and rock shrimp tempura (nice and a bit spicy); tuna tataki (good texture and flavour); seared sets (8 maki rolls and 6 nigiris); and dragon eye sushi roll (tuna, eel and avocado). Those two last dishes were definitely the best. We expect that from the sushi rolls, since they’re usually very enjoyable, but the unexpected true gem was the nigiris from the seared set. The fish on top was grilled at perfection and it was delicious. Price was according to the service and food that we received. We will definitely come back and order more nigiris.

Lovely food!! Would order everything again seen in the pictures except for the Spider roll. Nothing wrong with it, just fussy and it could use some (unagi) sauce in there. Wagyu skewers was great. Unagi can be more torched but overall still a 9.5/10 x

This is easily the best sushi place in North London, and probably in the whole of the city. After 12 years, I couldn’t be more loyal to this place. It is family run, and that means they pour care and attention to the food they serve, which is fantastic. My favourites are the yellowtail jalapeño, the Wagyu roll and the crunchy tuna roll. You can’t miss, just go to Sasa!!

In the gazillion Japanese restaurants in London, you definitely don't want to miss this one. Excellent quality sushi, lovely traditional interiors and restaurant run by a Japanese family that clearly knows what they are doing. Highly recommend but book before as again, place is very small.

Update 30/11/2022 We had pre-theatre dinner here again and we were pleasantly surprised that the whole interior had been completely redone. It all looked very modern and fresh, it was lovely. The menu had also been simplified and it was easy to grasp. The thing that hadn't changed was the amazing food. The maki rolls are delicious and so are the dumplings. They have a nice selection of wines and the service is super friendly, attentive, and they take a lot of time to explain items on the menu when you have questions. I wholeheartedly recommend.

It had been too long and the team is finally back. Menu has slimmed down - less choice but same quality! I would recommend to indulge in the dishes before reaching to wide sushi part of the menu. Shiitake skewers, scallops grilled, black miso all perfect with the tasty charred touch and smoky taste. Loved the ability to choose the same fish in different formats, sushi, sashimi, tataki, spicy, etc. Great service - the train is clearly keen to do well to get back on everybody's book... and they should!

Very cozy and new place. They have a great variety of suhi with the outmost quality. The waiter was very nice and helpful, he took care of explaining how traditionally things are eaten and gave us good suggestions. Service charge is not included. Definitely coming back.
