Santa Fe in Shepway

Was there for the Texas night (Nov'23). Amazing food, great size portions, super quality and very welcoming. Nice and cosy restaurant. Couple of cocktails to start. Highly recommended, and we will be back.

Fantastic food, very generous portions (neither of us could eat all our mains & what was left was packaged up to take home). Lovely atmosphere & service, we'll definitely be back.

Finally the only authentic New Mexican restaurant in the UK is open again after Covid. Only serving brunch at the min. but what a way to make the tastebuds up. Fantastic food and great atmosphere, well worth a journey to Romney Marsh for a great feed

Came here on a recomendation of others but was disappointed. Everything looked rather nice and authentic (reminded us of Hotel Cheyanne at Disneyland), thats where it ended. Starter was good, but when I asked for the chicken burrito to not be hot as I have an intolerence for anything too hot the attitude was not very welcoming, maybe they were having a bad day who knows.

Very welcoming friendly restaurant. The huge burning log fire gives it an extra cosy/homely feel in this cold weather, great ambience. The food was AMAZING!!, I ordered cheesy Nacho's for starters to share with my partner while deciding on my main. There was a good choice to choose from which made it hard to decide......I wasn't sure which burrito, so decided on tres amigos, WOW.... great flavours, huge portions, DID NOT DISAPPOINT, you could taste all 3 different flavours. As it's a very layed back atmosphere and your not having to rush your food, I was able to eat slowly at my own pace which made the experience more enjoyable. Somehow, I managed to share a dessert, Santa Fe Mess, again very enjoyable, I don't have a sweet tooth but this was just right, not too sweet. The customer service was great from both owners, being asked if everything was ok or if we needed anything. If you want to eat real authentic food, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND you eat here. I actually drove from Manchester especially to eat here and stayed in a near by hotel. I just wish it was closer to me, but this will not stop me from driving the 5+ hours to eat here again. These is a family restaurant, they work very hard to make sure the food is fresh and very good quality . I love this place. It is very sad to read all the negative comments about to these small restaurant. I wish you the best for the owners

My husband and i visited this on the night it reopened after being closed for a few months. We were overall very disappointed and he left a 100% honest review, this review was completely rubbished by the owner who accused us of lying and even said we must have the wrong restaurant. I am prepared to accept that perhaps they were not completely organised as they had just reopened but to accuse us of lying is absolutely pathetic. If you cant take criticism in this industry do something else. Seems to have happened to anyone else that dares criticise too. Shame as we had really been looking forward to eating here.

So disappointed. We were staying in the area and wanted to meet up with friends for a really good meal. Having been here before, this seemed favourite. We looked for a website which would tell us their opening times. In the end our friends phoned and discovered they are only open Friday and Saturday night!

Very warm and welcoming feel to Santa Fe, really good menu for vegetarians too, the wine was very nice, the food was really fresh and very tasty, we were glad we went there. The environment has changed and did seem less Mexican in appearance , but still a feel for it. Small restaurant but not tiny and tables spaced apart didn't feel squashed or crowded and was busy, Good value food , wine price not too bad and very tasty. The service was very good and we didn't wait long for the food. We shared a starter which was delicious too. We are planning to visit again very soon.

Came along for the Friday night special of beef brisket with cheese. Up to its usual high standard. Dessert of ice cream filled doughnuts which unfortunately I was too full to try. Will avoid the huge prawn and avocado starter next time so I've got room for pudding.

This was my first time here and as a vegetarian I was slightly worried because there is usually a very limited menu. However I was very impressed with the options. The food was amazing, they also have a children's menu. I was very impressed with the quality but very pleased.

Have been wanting to visit this small restaurant for quite a while and had the opportunity to bring my friend for some great food. Everything tastes fresh and pricing is great value for money.

Went here with my husband as we were staying locally Excellent food and service. Owners very friendly and made us feel most welcome. Had the beef brisket which was delicious, and very filling. Highly recommend Santa Fe, definitely value for money.

We dine here frequently and have never had a bad meal or experience. The photo is of my meal this evening, pulled pork which was delicious. Try it, i cant believe anyone would genuinely not give a 5 star rating to this wonderful restaurant.

I have visited this restaurant twice now after seeing all the amazing reviews and photos of the food on Facebook. However both times I went away feeling a little disappointed as the food wasn’t as good as I was expecting. The second time we were particularly disappointed. We had the Brisket burrito however it wasn’t served with all the cheese and sauce as the pictures on Facebook show. It was more a plan dry burrito rammed pack with beef brisket with a tiny amount of cheese on top and with a salad on the side.

This restaurant does what it says....serves good quality homemade food at reasonable prices everything is always fresh and the establishment's decor is authentic New Mexican/Navajo.

I dared to leave a less than favourable review on Facebook about this restaurant and I have been verbally abused, called a spiteful old cow. I wasn’t abusive or rude in anyway just said I hadn’t enjoyed the food and the ambience wasn’t good. I then received a torrent of abuse which I’m incredibly shocked by. Avoid at all costs!

We had takeaway for work and it was delicious. I had a vegan burrito which was incredibly filling and had a good level of spice for someone who is not a big fan of heat! Delicious!

Visited Santa Fe restaurant for the second time and again wasn't disappointed. Ordered 2 pulled pork burritos which we highly recommend. Fresh products, great taste and amazing atmosphere. Definitely visit again.

Last week we visited the Santa Fe restaurant. We both ordered the freshly made chilli which we would highly recommend. Amazing atmosphere and friendly staff.

Glad they have 're opened. Food is exceptional and you would never go hungry . Portions are enormous. Service fantastic and you are never rushed . Margaritas spot on also. Fantastic meal last night and thankyou both for gorgeous food and service and will be returning .

After a break Santa Fe is back and as good as ever. The menu has been tweaked to better reflect the New Mexico flavours, every mouthful was fabulous, really enjoyed our evening. Thank you, long may you continue to succeed with your beautiful restaurant.

Another fabulous meal. Although it was very busy, we didn't wait long for our meals, beautifully presented. I'm a fussy eater and this is the only restaurant in the world, (yes I have been round twice!) that whatever I order I clear my plate, no nasty lumps of fat or gristle and all veg to my liking. I'm devastated that they may be closing for good, I really hope this is not the case.

A small but cozy place which has been done up to exude character.

The food is freshly cooked and very tasty, the service is homely, attentive and friendly. This place is great value for money and I would recommend pretty much everything! This has become my local haunt.

I love Mexican food but there aren’t any as close to my doorstep as this little gem. Really tasty authentic and lovingly made dishes that are big on portion but small on price. Everyone has said how much they have enjoyed Santa Fe and could hear nothing but praise from fellow diners. Definitely a new firm favourite.

I’ve been there before and it was below average and thought I’d try it again to see if they had upped there game! what a mistake! Food was awful found a long dark hair in my meal and mince tasted like it was cheap mush! NEVER AGAIN

Every time we visit, which is becoming even more frequent we are never disappointed. This food is always so lovely and the portions are very filling. the 'special' menus they do are worth trying. Overheard people on another table who were obviously on holiday in New Romney, telling the owners what a wonderful meal they'd had too.

This is our local restaurant and we are so glad it is. Lovely atmospheric restaurant with very friendly owners. The food is just wonderful, this visit i had the steak and cheese special. Portions are large and served piping hot, having been cooked from fresh. Highly recommended, and they also do takeaway, win, win!!!

Went here for dinner, very small with just a few tables. All food is prepared and cooked fresh, no frozen food here! Food is authentic New Mexican and Ecuadorian and is delicious and reasonably priced.

Have I been before? Yes a few times. Am I going again? Yes definitely. This is not a chain and it’s personal. They listen if you have allergies and make sure if you have allergies. Daughter with wheat and fish allergy was catered for magnificently.

Came across this restaurant by chance on a last minute road trip over Easter. The food wash really nice, authentic and came in big portions! The owners we're really friendly and we had some great chats and even got to try on Mexican hats and wresting masks post-meal. The margaritas were perfect and thanks for letting us try (and takeaway) the REALLY hot sauce. Highly recommended!

The owners of this restaurant always take the extra step to accommodate your needs. Offers a great Vegan and meat menu.

Amazing food and service had the pulled pork burrito and the prawn starter which I recommend to anyone visiting this restaurant. Waiter was friendly and was great to be able to speak to the chef who came out herself to check on her customers which is brilliant as you don't get this level of customer service often. Will definitely be returning. 10/10

We went on a work outing to this lovely little mexican restaurant in New Romney. The atmosphere was lovely and relaxed, and the food was well priced for the portion sizes and absolutely delicious! Will definitely be visiting there again.

What can I say ? Large portions, fantastic food, nice atmosphere, and everything is FRESHLY cooked unlike some restaurants who microwave everything !! If you like Mexican food or just like great food at great prices, Santa Fe is a MUST visit and you're in for a treat. 5 stars

You can tell straight away that the ingredients used are fresh and of good quality. Very cozy restaurant. The food doesn't take very long after ordered, which is good when you're hungry. It's not expensive either, so definitely the best mexican restaurant I've tried.

Been here many times and have never been disappointed. Always lovely food and atmosphere. BYOB makes it a very reasonable evening out. Have booked for New Years Eve with friends and am looking forward to it.

Santa Fe is an excellent authentic Mexican restaurant set in a intimate and cosy atmosphere. The fact that the restaurant is BYOB caused us no issue, other diners seemed to already know about the policy and brought their own wine. The only exception is they do not permit you to bring any spirits to drink on the premises. We had the cheese dip to start and burritos for mains. We were with another couple which meant we ordered all four types of burritos available. Each burrito had its own unique flavour and none was overly spicy. The portion size was generous but just right for me. The owner/waiter was more than pleasant and helpful in explaining the menu. Be sure to make a reservation through their Facebook page so as to not be disappointed.

I praise Maggie and John enough! Be it eat in or take away, in the words of my son, the food is amazing! Even my 5year old grandson tried a bit of everything, his opinion......mmmmmm!!! Yes, the Santa Fe is small....like a cozy cantina. If the food is not to your taste.....try Tex-Mex (it's much more "English"!Love the weekly specials and if the grandchildren are eating with us we get a take away. If you don't like REAL Mexican food, go elsewhere. If you Love Mexican food, it's Santa Fe All The Way!

Friends of ours live in and around New Romney and we usually go to our fave down the road but for a change we thought that we would try here following such rave reviews.The restaurant itself is very small inside and packed with different artefacts from all over making it very unique and interesting. It did seem that the tables were very close together and when a big party arrived there didn't seem to be much room to move about.The menu itself was very basic with just a few different dishes to choose from but several specials on offer too. I myself had the chilli and my husband had a burrito. The portion sizes were enormous so you definitely get your moneys worth but I have to say it all tasted bland and my husbands looked rather thrown together and not very appealing although he did say it tasted ok. The service was very good and we did like the fact that we could bring our own alcohol which made the meal less expensive. Overall it was ok nothing to write home about. If you're hungry and don't want to splash out this is definitely the place to go with its enormous portions, but if you want a bit more taste to your food and to not sit on top of eachother one of the other restaurants may be worth a look.

I can't say enough good things about Santa Fe. The atmosphere is intimate but very friendly, John always welcomes us with a smile.The service is excellent, always prompt and courteous and nothing is too much trouble. The food is so good you just want to eat here again and again (and I do). How John and Margarete manage to cook such wonderful food and make customers feel like old dear friends is beyond me. Authentic from start to finish..... if you haven't tried it, try it one weekend soon!

Delighted to read so many positive reviews of this friendly restaurant . Food and service are excellent,good choice of menu which now includes a special dish from Equador once a week.Icing on the cake is bring your own wine or beer etc with no corkage!Our car seems to make the journey here on a weekly basis, enough said.

The food is excellent and I love brining our own wine. Prices are good and they've got the menu choice just right. We had the special which was delicious. The interior decor is lovely, right up my street.

We had been meaning to try this restaurant for some time and finally did so. We weren't disappointed .It is a very popular venue that is only open on weekends.I had a cheese starter ( almost a fondue ) my partner had the pulled pork.For the main course I had a MASSIVE wrap type dish filled with chilli and rice. My other half had an equally large chicken salad.This restaurant doesn't have an alcohol licence so it's take your own wine. No corkage fee!The food and atmosphere were both superb. Marvellous food and a bill of only £32!Excellent . We will be back soon!

Better than good food in pleasant atmosphere. Good size portions of well prepared food. Tasty without heavy handed chilli, delicate and subtle. Will go again, will remember they have no licence, but do sell soft drinks. Cash only, there are cash machines and an off licence nearby

If you like proper Mexican food rather than the taco bell stuff you get at some of the chains this is an excellent place for you. I like the fact its a BYO and they concentrate on the quality food. Everything is first class. Just make sure you are hungry when you go!

Lovely, authentic, nice simple menu. Bring your own beer or wine. Limited menu but that makes life straightforward and the food was excellent.

Visited on Friday night to experience Ecuadorian food with a friend who has visited Ecuador. He tells me it is very authentic. My first experience of the food. Delicious and very filling. Not expensive. Welcoming and friendly. Take your own wine or beer. No corkage charge. EXCELLENT thank you☺

Our party of three enjoyed an excellent meal at the Santa Fe restaurant starting with Nachos and having three very tasty main meals to follow. The menu was small allowing the owners to use fresh ingredients in their meals and concentrate on quality.A real bonus was that the restaurant allows you to take your own alcoholic drinks, (excluding spirits), to have with your meal.Open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 6pm until 10pm.Will certainly visit again. Highly recommended

A small group of us had a Christmas meal here in December. It was fairly quiet inside, even near to Christmas so booking not a necessity, they will fit you in somewhere. It's a nice cosy place with a pleasant atmosphere.I have eaten here a handful of times and the food is always fresh, freshly cooked and delicious. The menu is simple and not extensive but enough to cover most tastes, and well priced. No alcohol licence so bring your own- if you forget, just pop to the shop a couple of doors down for wine/beers. Also it's a cash only place, but there are cashpoints in the high street.Looking forward to my next trip

Another great meal in every sense and Santa Fe is fast becoming a regular on my dinner venue menu! An individual restaurant that is very friendly, authentic, immensely good value for money and fun. Looking forward to our return visit in April.

My family and I are big fans of Santa Fe. We always go back and have a great, relaxing time, at the restaurant. On my last visit to Santa Fe I've felt really poorly due to a medication I was taking. The owners were extremely helpful and did all they could to help me out. They are always helpful and provide excellent service.Food is delicious and I would highly recommend a visit if you haven't tried it before.

A Mexican gem on New Romney's high street. Really good food and very friendly owner. A must go when visiting New Romney.

Lovely small restraint that is perfect for all occasions! Food was fabulous and the service given was excellent! Cannot recommend highly enough! For true authentic Mexican food this is the place to go at a reasonable price too!

Our second visit to this restaurant and again we were not disappointed. Food was fantastic and the waiter and co-owner was helpful and attentive. Hope to be back on our next trip.

I have written before about this great find and was surprised not to see more of you there. Great Mexican street food, you take your own wine or beer and it feels like you are in a real Mexican establishment. I really must try something else but the prawn ensalada is wonderful.

Had a wonderful, low key (which we prefer) New Years Eve at Santa February. Good food as usual, but lots of extra touches, a fun Mexican quiz, free cocktail, plate of nibbles on every table later in the evening, drink to toast the New year. It was a lovely evening, made better by the fact that we won the quiz so have a free meal to look forward to in the not too distant future. Thanks and see you soon.

My partner loves Mexican and we were recommended Sante Fe by friends who said the portions were very generous and the food was excellent. In previous times when going to other Mexican restaurants the fajitas lack quantity and quality. But Santa Fe is certainly a place that DOES offer quantity and quality. My partner is 6ft 9in and eats alot so the chef suggested the 'Grande' which was 24"s packed with all 3 meats pulled pork, chicken, beef, rice and a salad on the side. Even he was filled up by the end of the meal. I had the 'Texas Tornado' although I'm not a fan of Mexican it tasted amazing! Hands down best Mexican we've ever had. Definitely be recommending Santa Fe to our friends and family!!

after visiting the restaurant for the first time i was very suprised to find how open and kind the staff are, the menu although small is very good and cooked fresh everyday.The atmosphere is nice and the good thing is to save money you can take in you own beer or wine, pure magic if you are watching you cashflow, I go in at least twice maybe three times a month, It is not just mexican food they do food from south America really enjoy it, It makes it nice that own of the owners comes from Ecuador nice touch to be served by a man who knows his own food

Looks lovely from the outside and inside is small but cosy and warm. Service was fine considering there was only one waiter. Food was tasty without being spectacular however this is new Romney not A London eaterie. Prices were reasonable however we were surprised they haven't got an alcohol licence so we only drunk soft drinks which is fine. BUT and for us this is a big but we saw they were on trip advisor and what the owner seems to do is review the restaurants in Folkestone etc and the reviews read like they are having digs at other restaurants within their reviews. We find this to be particularly bad form as restaurant owners it's fine to have an opinion of other restaurants however they need to make sure their own restaurant is in tip top condition. When we go to an actual restaurant not a table table and order a coke etc we don't really expect to be given a can like we're in a cafe or kebab shop. They need to focus on their own restaurant not slating other restaurants or playing silly games. We hope this doesn't put people off going to this Restaurant however we feel people should be allowed to see our opinion as they seem to be laying theirs around quite heavily.

I have eaten in Santa Fe with my fiance on a number of occasions and have always had very good food and service and the welcome is always warm and friendly. We like it there as the menu is small only 3 or 4 starters and 5 or 6 mains and a couple of desserts, as sometimes there can be too much choice on menus, you take your own wine or beer as they don't have an alcohol license but they do sell a reasonable selection of soft drinks, Which aren't too over priced and the food itself is very well priced for the size of the portions you get. On this visit we had chicken topped nachos to share plenty for 2 and not too spicy and for mains we had a spiced chicken burrito and a home made chilli burrito which were filled with rice and black beans served with a small salad, guacamole, salsa and sour cream.No doubt we will be returning very soon for another great meal.

It's nice to visit a small independent restaurant and be well looked after by the Ecuadorian waiter who made us feel very welcome.Most main meals are £10 which is very good value. A very pleasant evening in delightful surroundings.The restaurant is only open evenings Thursday 6-10pm, Friday 6-10pm and Saturday 6-10.30pm. You may take your own alcohol (not spirits) as they do not have a license and they don't charge corkage.

"This place is an absolute gem if you like Mexican food."• Food: The menu isn't large but that really makes every dish perfect as a little more attention and detail goes into each meal. The quantity of food is beyond more than adequate too. Out of all eight of us visiting, not one could finish their plate! As most Mexican food, almost every dish is tortilla/corn based so skip lunch if you don't want to feel fat after! Meal prices are excellent.• Drink:The owner allows you to bring your own alcohol as they don't serve their own alcohol, so this saves you money and gives you the flexibility of choice.• Atmosphere:The restaurant is (what I believe) family run and not a franchise, so you don't have to worry about the overgeneralised Mexican apparel and decoration. Interior is what seems to be a converted cottage with a Mexican touch. Overall if you're around and you like Mexican food, I wouldn't ever give this place a miss. 5/5.
